Breakfast has always been good here, and the servers are great, but Friday date night was a bust at what's usually our favorite neighborhood diner. I ordered the steak salad. The meat tasted microwaved, the lettuce was terribly wilted, drenched in dressing, and topped with greasy blue cheese crumbles (see picture of my meal). As I picked at my food, my husband commented "Your salad looks dead and the tomatoes are yellowed". I agreed, but was so tired and hungry I just picked at my plate. When server came to check on us, I voiced my displeasure. He was great, agreed that the salad was substandard and adjusted our billI. I'm kicking myself for not sending the whole thing back to begin with. A burger or open-faced turkey sandwich would have been a better choice. Note to management: don't serve produce past its prime - customers will notice the wilted lettuce and mealy tomatoes. read more

Being from out of state and looking for a quick lunch spot while on business, stopped into Millie's. This is basically a non name brand Denny's. The food was better than Denny's and What's Your IQ triangle brain teaser puzzle provided sufficient entertainment while waiting for the food. This establishment is a little older and run down, but delivers decent food at reasonable price. If you are okay with a Denny's you will like this place other wise you will not. read more

I have been here twice when visiting a friend who lives nearby. It's a straight-ahead diner with a decent breakfast. First time we had great service. Second time the waitress didn't bring milk or cream for coffee, we had to hunt down a knife, and she served pie to us with no forks. I really liked the buttermilk pancake that came with the round up breakfast. Eggs were cooked properly. I have also had a decent BLT. Nothing fancy here but it's ok. Coffee is decent too. read more

My friend and I went to breakfast this morning February 18th and because he's such a delicate person and the winds were just really bothering him they were kind enough to let us go into a space in the restaurant to have breakfast. We've been to Millie's a few times when we're in the area and it's usually pretty good. This Sunday was a different experience, though. We arrived at the busiest time of the day, so expected to wait, and even that wasn't too long. After we were seated, it took a while for the waitress to acknowledge us. An older gentleman who was bussing tables brought us drinks, but the waitress went past several times, filling water and coffee, etc. She finally arrived to take our order. I got the half turkey sandwich with tortilla soup and my husband ordered the Philly Cheesesteak. The food was delivered after what seemed like a long wait, and that was even more disappointing. My sandwich was OK as turkey sandwiches go, but the tomato was underripe and it had iceberg lettuce, not my favorite. The soup was only lukewarm, although it did have lots of veggies and some chunks of chicken, and it was overwhelmed by the huge pile of tortilla strips and cold shredded cheese on top. The cheesesteak was bland and the fries were cold and tasteless. While the waitress was pleasant enough, the service was slow and rather unattentive. We finished our meal and left feeling underwhelmed. Millie's can do better. read more

Buffalo wing strips seemed kind of bready. A whole lot of crust and chicken was a bit dry, BUT lots of good menu items to choose from. Service was really friendly and seems like a place where servers get to know all the regulars. Millie's is a nice hangout, and like other yelpers said, a notch above Denny's and IHOP. However they microwave a lot of food, and some of the entrees are hit or miss. Tortilla soup was great, lots of juicy chicken! Pot pie, not so much- soggy (from microwave). Turkey dinner was decent, Apple pie was ok. Their breakfast on the other hand is on point! Great coffee, omelets and potatoes! Lots of counter seating too...this place is definitely best for breakfast and brunch. The serving staff does a great job too. read more

Diners beware. My friend and I were each overcharged $2.00 on our lunch orders today. We were handed old, falling apart menus which we ordered from. When the. Checks came I noticed mine was $2 more than the menu said. I got a menu and checked. When my friend checked she also found she had been overcharged as well. We brought it to the attention of the waitress who pointed to a scan and said that was their menu now. At no time before did she tell us about that scan. When my friend held firm and told the waitress it was fraud the waitress changed the amounts to what was on the menus we were given. Imagine how many diners don't check and get overcharged. Hubby and I went today, Sunday, about 11:00 for a late breakfast. Everything was fine, coffee kept coming. The prices on the menu were good! Our order took...forever. Seemed to take about 30 minutes. When it arrived, hubby's eggs were scrambled instead of over easy, his hash browns were NOT well done, and my country potatoes were COLD. We managed to flag down the waitress and her response to all of this was that she would just comp both our meals. WHAT? Didn't expect THAT. This restaurant is out of the way for me, but I started going to it when I was having physical therapy at Valley Presbyterian Hospital and I would pass Millie's on my way to there. I took to leaving early and having breakfast there prior to my therapy sessions. I realized that I was getting "comfort" from both Millie's and the therapy. So, ever since then, when I want comfort, I go to Millie's--breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I have always liked their food and also their nostalgic decorations. They even have a full encyclopedia set there, perhaps in honor of the huge school complex that is only a block away from them (where probably all research is now done on computers!). But again, comfort. But most of all, I would like to praise the waitresses (they're all good), and particularly one of them, Ana C. Ana is always extremely friendly, greeting you with the red carpet of her bright smile. She is always upbeat and has a way of making the food special by the way she carries it to your table. She is conscious of all her diners and makes sure all is satisfactory and even if you only think that you want more coffee or iced tea or water, she will have it there without your asking. The same goes for napkins, just about the time your fingers maybe get a little messy, she is there with a stack of new napkins. This applies to other desires, too. I can all but guarantee that you will end up with some dessert. Ana knows you want it! I am always trying to not get it (but I end up glad that I did), such as today, for sure I wasn't going to get dessert, but she casually told me that they had fresh-made tapioca. I LOVE tapioca, so of course I got it! Friendliness, kindness, awareness, thoroughness, and ENTHUSIASM are some of Ana's qualities that she brings to the table. There is something about this that can make you happy, to help you to enjoy your meal, and, yes, provide you the comfort that you might not have known you wanted, but once you received it, you realize that was exactly what the doctor ordered. read more

Food is great but customer service is the worst you can have, the OWNER has the worst people skills and doesn't know how to treat people the right way, also there kids menu has inaccurate prices. They charge you extra food items without them telling you that they do, so when you get your check it's more then what you expected. And as a customer they won't honor your check. Feeling ugly in Los Angeles... come to Millie's!!! Growing up in Miami, me and my three sisters were surrounded by beautiful women, many often more attractive than ourselves. My older sister once commented that when she moved the Philadelphia it was a wonderful change, b/c around the UPENN campus she was hot stuff, and how much she dreaded coming home and feeling average or below average again. Both my younger sister and myself did not move to a city lacking in physical beauty; we moved to Los Angeles. And though we're still absolutely adorable, and my sister is pretty hot, let's just say "It's Always Sunnier in Philadelphia". This past week, I had the esteeemd pleasure of waking up at 4am to be in Northridge at 5am to see a tent be built for a catering company I'm working for. Wippeeeee!!! The best part about it was getting off from work at 9am so that I could brave the 405 South to Santa Monica... I think not. So I went looking for a diner, one where the service would smile and that no one would care that I was wearing my "Sketchers Support" shoes designed for working long days on my feet... alas Millie's! Decently good food, really nice service, and the people who frequent it remind me of those generally found in the South, no Angelinos in sight. I definitely walked away wth a smile on my face, a good multigrain pancake in my stomach, and the knowledge that if I ever felt bad about not being an LA Hottie, Philadelphia was only 5 or so exits north on the 405. read more

It's your All-American restaurant. The only reason we really stopped in is because they were one of the only restaurants opened on New Year's Day. I got their Denver omelette with egg whites with no cheese along with their country potatoes and toast. My brother got their pancakes with bacon and my dad got there patty melt. The good: we were sat immediately. The staff were all very friendly. Parking was simple. The not so good: I ordered eggs over-easy and bacon with a side of fruit and sour dough toast. After meeting my new little niece at the Northridge hospital for the first time, I met up with the boy for dinner since he works in the neighborhood. He's only worked at his current location for a month, so his selection of restaurant choices was pretty limited: Millie's, a pizza place, Wendy's. Since I don't eat fast food and had already eaten pizza for lunch, we decided on Millie's. It looked harmless enough from the outside, pretty much like any other chain family restaurant. Monday at 7:00 pm and it was dead inside. The bathroom was fairly clean. There was little choice on the menu for those of us non-meat-eaters. I suppose I could have gotten a Gardenburger, but they're not my favorite (I prefer Boca burgers). So I decided on the spaghetti without meatballs. However, when we attempted to order, I was told that they didn't have any sauce. I mean, really. How do you run out of sauce? I will never understand running-out-of-food business at restuarants. The Pizza Hut by my old apartment would always be out of pizza. How the hell can you stay in business that way, people?! After debating leaving to find someplace else to eat, I decided to get a baked potato and steamed vegetables. Oh, boring. And my vegetables tasted funny. Not funny ha ha, funny gross.
