We walked up the street with a half dozen other diners. Wooden City is definitely not in the best part of BHM. Walking to the restaurant was a little sketchy, no need for a detailed description. Although we had reservations, the hostess looked at us like we had three eyes. She found a small table for us in the far back of the restaurant. No problem, at least we were seated. Our server greeted us quickly and went over the menu. We ordered drinks, blistered Hungarian peppers and a sausage and mushroom pizza. We told him that we were going to a concert and were on a little bit of a tight schedule. By the time our server checked on our food, the second time, we went from a little bit tight to full "gotta get out of here" mode. I guess the delay in getting our food was to give the kitchen time to burn our pizza. Over half of the thick, chewy crust was inedible. The bottom of the pie didn't fare much better. The peppers, on the other hand, were amazing. (not so much so at 2 am but that's just me!) They are a do not miss. We were at least able to settle our bill quickly and made it to the concert with time to spare. Overall, would we go back? Only if in the area - those peppers were amazing. Still, I definitely would not make a special trip.

This is a spot with a heavy regular rotation. The people of Mountain Brook/Vestavia are here for dinner. It's a specific crowd. Service was great, the waitstaff is very friendly and on top of things. My dad ordered the "Magic City Manhattan" -- I'm not normally a dark liquor person, but I thought this was fantastic. I think it was the pecan liquor which made it so good. We split the muscles appetizer, which was great. The broth was so warm, garlicky, acidic, perfect. Love. And the bread that came with was great, too. If I'm being picky, the bread services' butter could've been more room-temp and easier to spread. But that's me being extremely picky. We ordered the lamb chop entree to split, too. Again, great. This is a fantastic spot if you're not looking to travel downtown for dinner. Easy menu, crowd pleasing. Definitely suited for an older crowd, which can be harder to find in the downtown spots.

My guest tonight is a healthy eater, so the menu was perfect. Lots of farm to table options, vegetarian options, as well as fresh fish and other great proteins. We ended up having the seared tuna with soy pearls, yellow beets, feta and dates, and the spring salad with fried goat cheese, pistachios, apples and raspberries. Everything was fresh, well prepared and delicious. Service is always wonderful. Seating is limited so make reservations as early as possible. Bar seating available first come first served. There's a number of off-menu items so be sure to ask your server! My only complaint is that best tables are held for the "regulars;" so I guess it's time to become a regular at Foodbar.

We decided to come on a Friday night I did make reservations beforehand and I highly suggest making them especially on the weekend and you can make them online through their website. On this evening, they had Tyler Giddens playing his keyboard and singing along. He was very good and I was able to chat with his wife and she told me that he plays around town so I definitely look forward to hearing his music again. Fowler was our server and he was very attentive. We started off with the brussels sprouts and the pork belly nachos. They were both equally delicious. Last time I was here I got the chicken tacos and I was so impressed. I got them again. My son got the Mac burger, which he completely devoured. My brother got the short ribs which he enjoyed. He also got a to go Mac burger as well. This time instead of Mississippi mud pie I got the monkey bread which was very delicious and it had apples in it as well. I love how the staff gets to wear whatever they want, and they can express their style. I did visit the restrooms and they were very clean. The only negative is sometimes the parking lot is real busy and if it is, you kinda have to park across the street. It's not a far walk but a lot of the drivers at the Summit area. They tend to drive crazy. I will definitely be back. I haven't had a bad meal here since I've been coming. Not sure why, but it wouldn't let me post any more pictures.

I asked where the bathroom was and after being told said I would be right back. when I returned, someone else was at my seat, my drink was cleared, and when I asked what happened, they said they thought I had left. That's not service. That's chaos. Apparently the culinary dropout also dropped out of hospitality. They need to learn how to communicate with one another. I will not be back.

It was very delicious and Tyler was our bartender I believe. The bar area is so classy and they also have discounted appetizers from 4 to 6:30 PM Monday through Friday. I had made reservations about a month in advance because I knew it was gonna be a party about seven or eight of us. Mabry was our server and she was very attentive. I usually get the crabcakes, but I decided to go with the nachos appetizer, but it was big enough for a meal so that's all that I got. On the description, it says spicy ground beef, but the server assured me that it was not spicy and she was correct. I got a salad before my meal with poppyseed dressing and it was so fresh. The tomatoes exploded in my mouth. And to end the evening, I have the peanut butter pie, but forgot to take a picture of it, but I did take a picture of the cheesecake that my friend got. I will definitely be back sooner than later

Some family friends from Huntsville swear by it and got it while staying with my mom in Bham, so we tried them out during my recent visit. I ordered us the Angel pizza. Had no idea Emmy's pizza was a Detroit style, which I love! The Angel comes with Ricotta, truffle cream, mushrooms, parsley pesto- all good things. The pizza was good and we enjoyed but this flavor was probably just a little too much cream so I'd check out another flavor next time or build my own. I could use more of a red sauce base for Detroit style. Did takeout from The Summit- was mostly quick in and out. Hot, Freshly made and the crispy edges I adore. I like how their two sizes are listed on the website as sixer and tener. It's def not cheap but I guess not horribly priced either. With multiple locations in Nashville maybe I'll try them again eventually, or just default to my favorite, Jets, again which is close to home. But if you want somewhere with Detroit style pizza to go sit down and dine, Emmy Squared can be your move.

We also got the Ang pizza, which was a vodka sauce. The crust was crispy on the edges and also fluffy in the middle. The service was pretty good, it didn't take long for our pizza and it was semi-busy. This is our second time coming here and we definitely had a better experience this time. The pizza is kind of expensive compared to how much you get so I don't think I would come here often.

The banana cream cheesecake grabbed my attention again since it is one of the few selections that doesn't taste overly sweetened. Very happy with my choice. I opted to have the chicken katsu bowl as my purchased item. Chicken katsu is typically lightly breaded, however, this was heavily breaded and was not on par with what I had seen online for Cheesecake Factory. My order didn't really have any of the glaze and there were maybe all of 6 edamame beans. I will say the portion of mushrooms, rice and cucumbers were generous. The breading of the chicken itself was seasoned nicely, but the protein was hard to enjoy with the breading to chicken ratio. I do believe this dish has potential to be really great with some tweaks in the execution.
