I'm sad they got rid of the pick 3 or 5 platter. The toasts are really good, and I love the mixed fruit they do and switch it up with raisins and powdered sugar and sometimes cinnamon and honey. I liked it so much I started to do that for lunch often. The culmination of flavors is really well done, I enjoy it. The only things I can say are the cost for tea cost me somehow $10 extra and it'd be great to have honey or sugar somewhere. The last piece is I'd really think patrons would appreciate good silverware. The space doesn't accommodate many people and having a sturdy fork and good knife to cut toast would make the experience better and less frustrating to cut bites. I'm a fan overall. read more

I've been here twice and both times I loved it! I usually don't like toast, but I think I'm doing it wrong because they make it delicious! My first time I got toast with melty brie with an apricot jam/spread type thing. It was an amazing combination. This time, I got toast with grilled mushrooms and goat cheese. As soon as I bit into it, the savory burst of flavor hit my tongue and I couldn't stop eating until it was all gone! The service is not super fast, but the employees are all very helpful and friendly. Plus the prices are good for the obviously high quality ingredients they use. I absolutely love this place and that is odd. Why, you ask. I'm not a bread person and it's a toast bar. Plus, it is small, tightly compact and crowded and I can get claustrophobic. All those things aside, this place blew me away. If it were not for Norma H.encouraging me to go and Ian Froeb putting them on his STL 100 List, I would have never discovered this little hidden gem of a restaurant. My favorite and must have every time I go, is the Apple Cheddar Melt. It was the "must order" from Ian's list and once again he is right. White Cheddar is melted on top of a layer of apples that are placed on top of a smear of apple butter on a thick slice of toast. I've always enjoyed slices of cheese and apples as a snack, but pairing them with toast and apple butter is genius. Another of my favorites is Simple Toast with Peanut Butter and Honey. It's a gooey mess, with the melting peanut butter and gooey honey running off the toast. Be sure to eat it with a knife and fork, so you can sop up every drop of the PB&H. My third favorite Spiffy Toast would most likely be a vegetarians first choice. It's made with Mushroom and Goat Cheese. Goat Not only does this one have my favorite cheese, but they use truffle oil as well and mix in fresh herbs. This Spiffy Toast makes for a great light lunch. No booze here, but I have found that the Cashew milk is the perfect accompaniment to the Peanut Butter Simple Toast and a Japanese Ice Brewed Coffee goes well with the Apple Cheddar Melt. The staff is small and professional. Be patient, things can be slow as they are multi-tasking and doing multiple jobs. On your first visit, they may not be warm and fuzzy, but when they see you back for a second and multiple visits, they totally warm up to you. A restaurant serving toast is a unique concept for STL. Absolutely blown away. We came in here not knowing at all what to expect, it's a small place with one man running the whole operation. Chill music, great ambiance. And then, THE FOOD! Each piece was perfect, with small touches added to bring crunch, flavor, and the perfect amount to leave you satisfied. Stopped by Milque Toast on an early Saturday afternoon for a quick bite. The food was but we were pretty disappointed by the service. The restaurant has a really cute vibe, especially since it's a clean, slender little place with a small community style table and some other small-space seating. However, besides the environment, the service we experienced was pretty poor. We got here an hour before they closed, but they were out of some smoothies and also gluten free bread. The staff could not explain the menu items at all or accommodate special diets. It took us five minutes just to order - then we noticed we were charged for food we didn't even order. All I got was peach compote with bread and a side of fruit, but it took 20 minutes for them to come out and there were no other patrons in the store at the time. The peach compote tasted funny - like it was either bad or mixed with something else it shouldn't have been. amount was not enough to cover half of a slice of bread, let alone the three pieces we got. At least the smoothie (sunshine) was good, the bread was hearty and thick, and the side of fruit was fresh and well-prepared. Unfortunately the service just really ruined it for us. read more

My son and I visited Milque Toast yesterday, just before it closed (closes at 4 on the weekend!). It's a small, cute place, with one long table (maybe 12 seats total?) and I think there was a bar at the wall where you could sit, also. Bathroom was clean and there were games in a nook that you could take and play (Battleship, cards, etc). We were just looking for a late afternoon snack - I'd seen this place online and we were very glad to have stopped. We had the Avocado Toast, which also had roasted red peppers, Havarti cheese, watercress and was drizzled with Sriracha aioli. it was all on top of a thick (like 2-3 pieces of bread thick) slice of absolutely wonderful bread that had been toasted (of course). It was a mixed grain bread I was told, from a local bakery, and it was dense and chewy and soft and tender, too. I'd eat anything on that bread! The Toast came with a little bitty side salad (like 4 bites), which was just right. I don't love kale salad, but theirs was very good - nothing fancy except for it's garnish, a few slices of beautiful pink turnip. It was enough of a sandwich to share for a snack. My very sweet Jamaica tea went well with the spiciness of the Sriracha (although my son said, 'that's not hot!"). It was a hibiscus tea, spiced and sweetened, and nice and cold. This place is not very far off Hwy 44, and would be very convenient to any travelers just going through town or stopping at one of St Louis' great attractions that are close by (Zoo, Forest Park, Art or History Museum or Botanical Garden). We took our boxes to the car and when we opened them it was like BOOM! So. Much. Food. We definitely could have shared one! When we travel it's hit or miss on how much you're getting for the cost. We paid 12.50 for each toast. I thought well that's about right to get a decent piece of avocado toast. There was nothing "decent" about this amazing smorgasbord of goodness! They also use only compostable products, including their straws! As we were leaving I also noticed they had some non-alcoholic local brews in cans. The ambiance of the restaurant reminds me of a mix of: a 60's diner, a hipster cafe, and grandma's house. There is limited indoors seating (there is one long table that seats 10 or so people and a few counter spots.) There is a lot of outdoor seating. Milque Toast is an eclectic little spot where you are probably going to get the best toast you have had. Every toast that I have tried here has been very tasty, with beautiful presentation. A lot of care is put into the preparation of each toast that is served. I have liked all the toast I have tried including the avocado toast, plain jane, blue cheese, apple and cheddar, and one of the Indian toasts. They also have bottomless coffee here which is great. One of the downsides here is that the selection can be quite small, especially if you come in the afternoon. Everything I have tried has been good, but if you come in at 1:00 or 2:00, you might only have 2 savory and 2 or 3 sweet options to choose from. While the interior of the restaurant is quite small, the items inside are all fun and quirky and make for a nice vibe. A couple times that I have been there, there was no music playing, which was a bit off putting. It would be nice if they could put in a nice sound system to pump in some background music. Overall though Milque Toast is definitely a place that I make a point to return to! read more

Food first, we had: - avocado toast (thick slice of toast, avocado, greens, pineapple and an egg all piled together) which was good, but needed a little something extra. A generous sprinkle of salt helped, but some lime juice or a little spice would have pushed it over the top. - nectarine-cheddar goat cheese drizzled with honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon on a big piece of toast. This was our favorite option, the fruit was fresh and all of the flavors were great together. -fluffernutter - as someone who loves PB and marshmallow this was right up my alley. It was grilled with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar over the top. Other observations - it's in a cute, hipstery building. Seating is very limited inside. The outside seating area was... odd. I've finally been to a Toast Bar. I know I'm a year or two late but that's a win in my book...it's getting so hard to keep up with those darn kids and their weird trends. This time around is everything comes on toast...ez enough. As for the space goes, it's your typical hipster building with eclectic furniture and little to no space inside. Most of the available seating is on the patio. I wish they had more indoor options but the toast is good enough to keep me coming back. They've got a ton of different toasts. Your classic avocado toast and a bunch of other amazing ones including...s'mores, mushroom, chorizo and a few others. I split the sampler which came with 2 sides. Deff the way to go if you're eating with a partner. It's around $15 and you get to try 5 different toasts and 2 sides. My favorite was their apple brie but I seriously LOVED them all. They were amazing. The sides were okay but nothing spectacular. They also have some great Japanese style cold brew coffee. All in all a great experience. I had heard a lot about Milque Toast Bar and love trying out new breakfast spots so I finally got around to trying it this week. It's a little out of the way but easy to find parking. I was apprehensive about finding space to sit inside based on previous reviews and pictures but we easily found seating outside on the side "patio". This is a very down to earth, kitschy, DIY space that I can appreciate. But there is VERY limited seating inside, one long table and maybe something else I didn't notice? Who knows? Very cramped inside. Not the friendliest service but that is always just the - (minus) on an already iffy experience. It was nearly impossible to read the menu chalk board as most of the writing is now very faint or all but gone. That was the first issue. There were no paper menus in sight so we just kinda stood there struggling to decipher the very vague descriptions and almost nonexistent writing. We ended up trying the crudo toast with tomato and basil and the fruit and cream toast. We both very much enjoyed our toasts even though we weren't sure what to expect with a lack of description. The brioche was an unexpected surprise, making the strawberries and cream cheese toast taste like a french toast entree. BIG +. Not a fan of the reconstituted raisins for the simple reason that they tasted only of thyme, but I appreciated the side of fruit. Never received any utensils or napkins with the meal which made it really messy to eat. We also got the "Fizz" sodas. One of them a "nutty" herb and the other rose, green and pink respectively. I wish they hadn't dyed the soda, which I assume they did, it made me feel iffy about drinking though. The rose one tasted overwhelmingly like flowers. If that is your thing, great, but I felt like I was drinking floral soap. The nutty one tasted like a dessert. The price is the best part of the meal, as is the portion size. It's a great value. I also really dug the bread they used. Not ideal for sitting and relaxing but the patio space was nice and it looked like they had a backyard stage which would be fun for late night concerts. The building is beautiful and the outside seating section is great (although it was too cold to sit outside). The decor inside is killer, very eclectic style that flows perfectly. The woman running Milque is super friendly and very into everything toast. We purchased the Smoked Chicken Etouffe and the You Down With FPP. First off, DAMN. One bite in and you realize why this place gets such great reviews. The flavor of the Etouffe was ridiculous and just spicy enough to feel elevated. The FPP toast could quite possibly be the best sweet thing I've ever had in my life. Straight up unexplainable nuclear flavor (I've never used that phrase, that's how good it is). An interesting concept for breakfast that I was excited to see put in action. To begin, the location of the restaurant was in a more hip area with graffiti walls and a furniture store right next to it. It was much smaller than I was expecting and had unique attributes with the decoration, seating, and different games/books for customers to read. The employee told us that their name explains the main ingredients of the toast, and they tend to garnish it with different toppings. That was frustrating because my sister and I do have certain preferences of seasonings that we detest including cilantro which was served on one of the toasts we ordered. Nonetheless, both the employees were extremely informative about the popular items and patient when deciding our orders. We ordered the chef's choice smorrebrod platters with three pieces of toast and one side. We decided upon the avocado and napa slaw toast, sugo crudo and feta (tomato) toast, and nutty s'more toast with a side of smashed cucumber salad. To drink, I tried the Japanese ice brewed coffee, and my sister tried the Jamaica which is a hibiscus iced tea. When the food came out, we were extremely surprised to see anchovies on one of the toast pieces since we did not order that and do not eat anchovies. We told the chef and immediately it was replaced. As I said previously, the avocado toast had cilantro sprinkled on top, and I was not pleased with that since I have a cilantro aversion. We enjoyed the sugo crudo toast best as the tomatoes were juicy and the spices incorporated an enjoyable taste with every bite. My sister was unable to finish the nutty s'more toast as there was a huge serving on nutella. The drinks were not very special or unique unfortunately, and I enjoyed the Jamaica more than the cold brewed coffee.
