I was looking for someplace new for lunch and a friend recommended, Cafe Nova. When I lived in STL, I drove by numerous times and always told myself I needed to check it out. Well, I no longer live in STL and I am finally checking it out. Now that I have, I am pissed at myself that I didn't try it sooner. I stopped by for lunch and enjoyed a Nova Gyro that was served with a side of fries. For a minimal up-charge, I had them add Feta Cheese to mine. When the Gyro arrived, it was super huge. It was so big, I could hardly pick it up to take a bite. I ended up eating part of it as a salad with a fork until I could finally pick it up and eat it like a true Gyro. The gyro meat was well seasoned and tender. It was smothered in their house made tzatziki sauce and wrapped in a warm Pita. The toppings were plentiful and they were; sliced red onion, shredded crisp lettuce, cucumbers and vine ripe tomatoes. Adding the Feta Cheese, was a wise move. It added, an extra Greek kick to the Gyro. My glass of Pinot Grigio was a perfect accompaniment to my lunch. With it being super huge, I took a third of it home and made a salad out of it for dinner. The only negative, is their take home vessels are styrofoam and not eco-friendly. The service was attentive and friendly. My server was training a new gentleman and think he's going to do a great job. I'm already thinking about a return visit, because I need to try the baklava. I started with the seasonal sangria, very refreshing and was a good size cocktail. I had the Spicy Chicken Gyro which didn't seem spicy at all to me. I had to give up on eating the pita, and ate all the inner ingredients which were good. But not spicy ‍. Desserts were excellent. Service was lacking, throughout the meal. There were numerous things on the menu that they were either out of or couldn't make because of equipment issues. I have been going to Cafe Nova for years and have seen it expand from a small little spot to all the lovely additions they have added. The new outside patio is great in the summertime. I mostly order to go from here however (especially in the winter) as their inside dining is a little smaller. The food is always consistently good and their Caprese is one of my favorites in STL. The family that owns it is always so nice (especially the mom and son) so I love supporting this small business. I've recently been on a Mediterranean food kick, and it's safe to say that Cafe Nova provided me exactly what I was looking for! My partner and I visited on a beautiful Wednesday evening and decided to sit outside. I couldn't believe the expansiveness of their outdoor patio area. There's SO many seating options! The host at the entrance told us to sit anywhere we wanted. Our table was nicely shaded by an umbrella. Given the perfect scenery and weather, I was really looking forward to drinking a glass of moscato, but unfortunately my server let me know that they were all out. It seemed like they had run out of a few other types of wine as well, as I overheard another server share the same thing with a table nearby. My partner had a glass of cabernet sauvignon and loved it. We started with an appetizer of hummus. First of all, the presentation was stunning. Very picture-worthy! The taste was just as incredible. The pita bread was overall soft but also the tiniest bit crunchy on the edges, which my partner thought was a great switch-up from pita that we've had in the past that's completely soft. For our meals, my partner tried their classic gyro and was blown away. I had the veggie gyro and thought the same. Both were massive. I felt so bad that I couldn't finish the whole thing because it was so big, but it was insanely delicious and filling! Their oregano fries on the side were great, too. When we walked up, I was met with the cutesiest outdoor patio so of course we had to see about sitting out there! They have a signature cocktails menu along with their regular menu but boy it was hard to choose from the options. They all sounded amazing, but I landed with the Seasonal Sangria. It was fruit forward, crisp and garnished with mint. For my meal, I ordered the Nova Gyro. It was jam packed with flavor and came equipped with very well-seasoned fries. I devoured my gyro and took half the fries home (healthy serving!). I cannot wait until it's summer again so that I can sit on that patio! Just be mindful of mosquitos. Came here on a Sunday, brunch time during the winter fluke where the temp reached the upper 60s. We have a lovely time on the gorgeous patio. We were one of the first tables occupied so our service and food was prompt. As the day went on, it got busier and noticeably slower and less attention. However we were fine with this since our group of 3 head embroiled in conversation. I had the greek salad with gyro. There was so much food I had to take it home. Same with my friends. Both had gyros that were so stuffed, easily the side of heads with fries. The food was delicious and I will absolutely come again, even if the service was slower later. We did not have a good experience here. After being seated, we waited about 20 minutes before a server approached us, and even then, we were only asked if we wanted a drink. We were never brought water. The patio was full, yet most tables only had water, one table had drinks, and no one appeared to have food. When I asked how long it would take to receive our meals after placing an order, the server told us it could be over an hour. That is completely unreasonable. Unfortunately, this was not our first bad experience here. We have visited two other times and encountered similar issues with extremely slow service. Only had 2 employees to handle the inside and outside. We ultimately decided to leave because by the time we would have received dinner, it would have been far too late. Very disappointing experience, and sadly a recurring one. They are in need a someone who can manage the restaurant. read more

The food was big portions which was nice but online prices are not accurate with in person menu prices. A gyro is around 12.89 instead of 8.99. The fries were great and the meat was tasty! Cafe Nova has a *pita* our hearts! This authentic Mediterranean must-try is only 5 minutes from us in the Princeton Heights neighborhood. (Um, how did we get so lucky?!) Although it's tucked right alongside traffic-heavy Kingshighway, their patio couldn't possibly be more peaceful and picturesque--and there's plenty of parking around back! We were promptly seated and orders taken. We barely beat the lunch crowd which was around 1:15ish. The restaurant is very cute with all of the modern day ecstatics. A friend suggested this place for a group of us for lunch and it's been on my list for awhile, so I was happy to finally check it out. We got a big table outside under some umbrellas and enjoyed the fresh air. Our waitress was really attentive and funny. So if you're looking for that, come before 4pm. I wasn't exactly greeted by a host when walking in either, although the sign said to see a hostess for outdoor seating. When I entered, there were 2 male servers taking food out. They told me I could sit wherever, so I found a seat outside. They quickly brought me a water and a menu. Then I was greeted by a very pleasant young lady. She was a fantastic server. She apologized that they did not offer coffee after 4pm, which was fine. My only complaint, and why I rated this 4 stars instead of 5, is how long it took to get my food. I ordered a chicken panini. It took about 30 min and she went to check on it a few times. They weren't super busy. There was 1 large table there and me, by myself. The large table had already been served so not sure what took so long. The food was hot too. Maybe it's the time to cook the chicken. I'm happy it was hot and fresh! If you are short on time, do not come here expecting super quick food service. I come here often. It's my go to restaurant if I need good comfort food. Momma in the back makes this chicken and rice soup that can heal sickness, a bad day, and can bring world peace. I usually do a small gyro salad. I had to tell you it's small because it is so large and makes a perfect lunch accompanied with the soup. Their salmon special with the basil sauce, I try to understand how they can make something so flavorful in such a short amount of time.
