Wow!! No idea why this place wasn't totally packed. The food was sooo good! Hubs had the blue cheese baguette which was super spicy - in a good way! I found a gluten-free option in shrimp and grits and it was so good, plus enough for tomorrow! Rest of the table had salmon and herbed chicken - all enjoyed! Currently no liquor license - but should have it soon. Only hiccup is that google maps displays their new address but routes you to their old location. They are now in the old Do-Nut shop on Jefferson and Crittenden. While you are there check out the artifacts from the original shop. It's a cute cafe setup. I absolutely loved my experience at Milque Toast. They have a small indoor seating area and a large outdoor seating space. We sat indoors but saw there was live music in seating outdoors. Such a cute spot! My review is based on coffee only, so wanted to preface :) I was driving home from a meeting downtown and was in need of some caffeine. I got off at Jefferson and 44, and this spot was easy to find! It is located in a building with other businesses, and is quaint and has such an authentic feeling. I parked on the street and walked in and was surprised at how small it was on the inside- which is part of it's appeal. There were two other customers in, and 1 person behind the counter. There's a menu on the wall with all of their food options- which many of them sounded delicious. I ordered a cold brew with oat milk. The person working poured it and allowed me to add my own oat milk, which I liked. I took a seat and answered some emails, and enjoyed. The cold brew was smooth and delicious- exactly how cold brew should be. I really liked the inside- the brick and decor make this spot have so much character and really exemplify a one of a kind spot. Next time I'm coming, I'm eating for sure! My friend Rob and I went here for brunch recently for the first time and the food was so good! The inside of the building is super small so if you are wanting to eat inside, get their early becasue seating is first come first serve. We ordered the same thing which was the Ube housemade cream soda and their Milque Toast with extra bacon. The Ube cream soda was a very unique flavor but we liked it and the color is just really pretty. This Milque Toast though?!?! Omg! it was everything. Stopped in for a quick bite with a friend. The space is small and cozy. There is plenty of outdoor seating when the weather permits. The staff is welcoming and friendly. The menu boasts a variety of toasts to try. Many vegetarian options available too! We went with the cured salmon and the avocado toast. The presentation of both plates was absolutely stunning!!! Both plates have a small mixed greens salad. The vinaigrette was light and delicious! The toast was hearty with a generous amount of salmon. I was looking for something worthwhile for lunch and stumbled on Milque Toast Bar. It is rare for lunch to look beautiful. Good or tasty, sure. Beautiful? Not often. And it tasted beautiful. I had a Turkey Melt, and it was nutty, crunching, salty, and completely wonderful. Also, the iced tea was really good. I have never written that sentence before. I mean it, though. The chairs were cute but uncomfortable. But, I ended up having lunch with one of the cooks who was just off from work, and the friendliness of the staff made me forget about the chairs. I wanted to like Milque Toast. The new space is very welcoming and the artful platings are to be appreciated. But I will not return. It simply takes way too long to receive anything and everything. Most frustrating is that the menu is not accurate. Dishes arrive with goopy, unwanted aioli (?). Why is that not specified on the menu? Why, for example, does aioli come drizzled on top of a side order of potatoes? Sure, we could have sent the plates back, but we had already waited more than an hour for food. To top it off, we realized after we returned home that we were also charged for our companions' half of the meal. Of course, we don't mind paying for our friends, but it seems they were charged, too? Very sloppy and unorganized all around. I'm not eager to leave poor reviews, but Milque Toast earned this one. read more

I FINALLY talked my fiancé into going with me and....I don't think we'll ever be back. We came in on a Sunday morning with snow on the ground, we were the only ones in the place. It was very confusing as we've both worked in restaurants and didn't get any help. Their conversation was super odd as well as we spent the whole 25 min with them talking crap on a friend for charging rent to their other friends who lived in their house? I'm not sure what the whole situation was, but as a millennial, I can say this was entitlement and made us feel kinda uncomfortable. We left shaking our heads. They were talking so loud it was hard to ignore it. My fiancé started with an iced tea, it's was English breakfast so it was good, but no refills - full price for a second one FYI. I got a cream soda, this is a REAL cream soda with the milky cream and everything which was a pleasant surprise, it was like drinking a float. I really liked that! Then the food, I got the kale and butternut squash toast - honestly, I thought it was good. Was it something I could have (and should have) easily made at home? Yeah. My fiancé got the sausage toast and gravy, which was highly recommended, and again, meh. The toast was plain white bread and the gravy was something we easily could have made at home. It was kinda runny with soggy toast. All of this is fine and dandy, except their prices are insane. We spent $40 on that. It was honestly a huge disappointment, service was meh, food was meh. Who doesn't love breakfast the place is small and quaint. It was a little gloomy that day, but it made for excellent lighting. The toast here is surprisingly really filling. I ordered the eggplant toast. It was more of an eggplant quiche, all baked and in a cube shape. It came with kale and a side of grapes. I did get to try the fruit/cheese toast with added bacon on top, also tried the truffles egg toast with added bacon on top with a side of potato salad. A total of three dishes. I rated it a 4/5 star because the eggplant dish was a little dry. It need some sort of added touch to keep its moisture and flavor into the baked dish, but I can't put my finger on exactly what it needed. There were also tomatoes baked into the eggplant and egg cube. It was not on a piece of toast (because that's what I asked ). In addition, the kale was very fresh and the dressing was excellent. The grapes were firm and slightly sweet As for the fruit/cheese with added bacon, I did enjoy. You wouldn't expect the fruit jam to match well with the cheese, but the flavors blend in and it really really works. I would not have ordered this myself because it's a little too sweet for me and I am definitely one to check for nutrition. This would not fit a lot of food categories in my book The truffles egg toast with bacon on top and a side of potato salad was good!! The toast was layered with kale, dressing, and their homemade truffle egg salad. I did not expect the dish to be cold, but I can see that with the truffle egg "salad," the dish needed to be cold. It's all good - food, service, ambiance. My husband and I really enjoyed both of our recent visits, so this spot will be on heavy rotation for us. I'm kind of hesitant to give them a great review because it's kind of an undiscovered gem and once it catches on, I'm sure it will be difficult to get a seat. This a new location for Milque Toast with expanded service. The inspired menu is unique, not your standard fare, and the food is delicious, farm fresh, and beautifully presented. The menu changes as ingredients become available and as inspiration hits. The owner/chef is warm, gracious, and very personable. They are working on obtaining their liquor license, so you can BYOB for now. All in all, it's a great place to read more

Milque Toast is a tiny joint right off Jefferson Ave. There's three tables inside and a few outside on the patio, and we chose to sit near the window as it was raining. My partner and I shared the s'mores toast and the truffled egg salad. The truffled egg salad was rich and filling, and the proportions of egg salad to bread to mixed greens made this feel like a composed dish. The s'mores toast was definitely tasty but not particularly impressive or inventive, and for $10+ I'd want more from the dish. How many times did I drive past this place before visiting? ~900 How far is it from me? 1 block. No excuses. Upon first glance and drive by, it seems it could be one of those clique-y places like...starts with "Moka" and ends with "bees", which I also lived 1 block from and never felt welcomed. If you're not part of the regular clique, they just ain't that into you. Same welcoming signs (a la Black Lives Matter, neighborhood for all, etc.), Same hipsters sitting outside, same mis-matched cuties with i-puters and coffee inside for hours. There are only so many pictures of avocado toast, marshmallows, and gravlax that I can look at before giving in in immediate fashion. That's what I did last Sunday. But imagine my disappointment when the menu had no 1) avocado toast, 2) smoked salmon toast, 3) a fruit/cheese toast, and 4) were out of the pepper chicken (see my tag line "all Mexican all the time"), but tequila shrimp kinda fit the craving. By noon on Sunday they were out of a few things already, and the iPad register wasn't working. They said we could just pay after we ate, cool! The toasts and sides we had, as part of the sample platter, we're all delicious. My husband's cream soda was ahhhmazing. My Jamaica tea was eh. Seating inside is one long community table, which was completely full, so we sat outside. The outside area is cute, with an outdoor kitchen, stage and mismatched tables and old booths. Some of the tables/chairs are broken or uneven, so watch out (husband sat on a 3-legged chair and bout ate it!) Their refrigerator is also out there and some tables are covered with a sunshade. THE BUGS WERE HORRENDOUS. Like, we had to give the bugs their own food so they'd leave us "moreso" alone. Don't sit by the dripping water/dog bowl (genius idea) because that's the fly hang out. I can see how some people didn't get a welcoming impression, a la M...abees, because it does come across that way. Hollier-than-thou hipsters in their own clique with smarter and more informed opinions than you, plus they are regulars so you can eat then leave! Mmmk! But, it wasn't really that way for me. And the owner adored my husband's gifted naked bootie t-shirt, so bonus points for that. Everyone was helpful and nice, and patrons were all kinds. Now you KNOW I'll be back, scouting that gravlax and avocado toast. Who knows...I may just join the elusive clique and become a regular, ditching my nomad foodie style. The place is on the smaller side. There's probably enough room to seat 10 people comfortably. The decor is eclectic and fits in well with the space. There menu is easily summed up by their name. There's milk, toast, and coffee (bar). Okay, that's a bit simplified, each of the items is so much more than their simple names. There are different types of milk (whole, cashew, and coconut). There's also coffee, tea, and house-made soft drinks, and not to mention all kinds of toast, the main attraction. Most of the food items seem to be locally sourced, which I'm a huge fan of even if I'm paying a little more. I picked the option where I could get a Spiffy Toast and a soup. I got the Mushroom & Goat Cheese with a side of their soup of the day. Our lunch items took a little time to make, but the presentation was just beautiful. I really wasn't expecting my meal to be presented so well. The food was not lazily slopped on, and there were a variety of different colors on the plate. The food not only looked awesome, but also tasted awesome. I really enjoyed my toast along with my soup. I definitely recommend this place for lunch or brunch. On my way over to Fritanga I noticed really cool artwork protruding from Milque's front doorway. It basically called out, "Christy, please come in." So I obliged. The space is small & quaint with tons of charter. The exposed brick walls are beautiful and even more so the colorful, decorations from chalk to paintings. They get a lot done in the space they have to work with. My first visit and Amanda was a jewel! Super hospitable, very informative, a sweetie pie. I told her I loved coffee and she informed me that they offer Mississippi Mud's blend, which I enjoy. No-brainer! I'll take a coffee with a splash of almond milk please. Whoa...guess what we actually make our own cashew milk right here, how'd you like to try that? Whaaaat??? Amanda, don't mind if I do. It was light, a dash of sweet in my strong black coffee. If you like more sweet don't worry Milque makes their own syrups in house as well from vanilla to blueberry cardamon they'll flavor you right up. Oh, lest I forget, this is a toast bar. Like toast? Checked out this place for the first time for Sunday brunch. The inside is quite small but there is an outdoor area with plenty of seating. Not sure how accommodating it can be in the colder months. We tried the pumpkin cold brew with coconut and I probably wouldn't try this again. The coconut was a bit overpowering and the brew was not that strong. I enjoyed my entree very much, it was a savory french toast topped with brisket, cheddar, greens, tomato and I added an egg. I thought it was tasty but it took awhile (maybe 30 minutes?) for it to come out even though the place wasn't that busy. This along with the portion size makes me question if the $14 (plus $2 for the egg) price is warranted. My wife thought her sweet entree was too sweet; it had nutella, chocolate sauce and fresh whipped cream.
