Extremely disappointed with my most recent dinner experience at Milt's Stage Stop. First, our server up-sold my guests steak to a Market Value steak but did not mention the cost. She informed him that it would be more tender than the $39.00 steak he had requested. If they boost their menu they shouldn't have to up-sell an already expensive piece of meat. When she asked me what cut prime rib I wanted I said the smallest (10oz) was fine as I don't eat a lot and always take some home. When the bill was handed to me the Rib-Eye steak had a charge of 45.00 and she also charged me for the 12oz prime rib cut as well. I did not make an issue of the charge for the rib eye but did bring the additional charge to the hostess's attention which she corrected. I paid the bill and we left but when I got home, I called and brought it to the attention of the manager and his reply was that she up sold my guest to a better steak. Why would they have a bad steak on their menu? When I mentioned the charge for the 12oz prime rib he informed me that I had gotten a larger cut, but that was not what I ordered. After hanging up I looked up the price of the rib-eye and the Milt's menu shows it at $35.00 not $45.00. I truly felt ripped off. read more

Last night my friend and I experienced the most wonderful dinner service at milt's! The salad bar that comes with the dinner entrees was plentiful fresh and restocked throughout the evening. I had the New York strip that was perfectly cooked to my specifications and it was a nice cut of meat. My friend had the special, locally raised filet mignon, with beautiful fresh steamed vegetables. And while the food was fine it was the service that was truly stellar! Thank you CarriAnne for such a special dining experience! The food was extremely below average. I got the filet mignon and shrimp. After paying $94 for two plates. I can say I will never be going back. The filet mignon was extremely bland and tough as that is the wrong way to cook that type of steak. Another member of my party had there filet mignon, medium, rare, and it came back extremely rare. Had them take it back to cook longer and still rare. The shrimp was fried and had a very strange after taste. For the price you pay or $42 a plate I expected way more. The plating was below average as for $42 I expected way better. And the overall tidiness of the restaurant, wasn't very good and there are multiple areas where you can see right into the kitchen not ideal when eating "quality food" The best part about dinner was the water and rolls. The best part of Milt's for me is the service. Service is prompt, pleasant and timely. The location is away from towns so if you need that take a short drive up the Canyon to Milt's. The food is fine. The salad bar is great, fresh, variety and has lots of options. What an amzing place! We ate here a few weeks ago, and were not disappointed at all! My wife and I are from Paris, so we have eaten some delightful meals. This place was great and so yummy! The best part of our visit was the waitress. She is a small blonde girl named Sara. WOW! We have visited 28 countries, and she has by far been our most favorite waitress! Eating here makes for an almost perfect night. The service was fabulous and the food even better. We ordered the 7 oz filets, and although they've gone up in price (like everything) they were worth it. I ordered medium rare and mine came more like medium, but the texture was so perfect, I didn't even mind. It's probably one of the most tender and delicious steaks I've had in a long time. Beautiful find! We had just come off the mountain headed home and were worried about where to eat (930 pm on a Sunday) we passed this hidden gem and thought they'd be closed for sure! I walked in and was greeted by a friendly face who simply said "hi!". I asked if they were open and instead of an irritated reply of "well we close at 10" or the like, he said "absolutely come on in!" We were seated and greeted by a cheery/happy waitress named Clara. She was so pleasant to talk to and made great entree recommendations! The food was great, flavorful, well cooked, even the crab was perfectly cracked. By the way I highly recommend the Orange Roughy... Just make sure you bring a hearty appetite for the fresh bread and plentiful salad bar too! We even bonded with the staff over the entertainment of baby raccoons playing in the back of the restaurant. All in all, not one complain here, we will be coming back! read more

This is my favorite restaurant! We live in Las Vegas and have plenty of restaurants to choose from in town yet we'd still prefer to drive 3 hours to dine here. My husband's family is from Cedar City so he introduced me to Milt's in 2018. Since then, we've celebrated our engagement, Valentine's Day, and our first wedding anniversary here. In fact, in November, we'll be driving up to dine for my mom's and husband's birthday dinners. This place is great. I cannot say enough good things. I love the cozy, mountainy feel. You get SO much for your money. For our anniversary dinner last weekend 10/18, we had their complimentary bread, wine, beer, two filet mignons (both come with sides), 2 salad bars AND an appetizer for $70! You cannot get that in Vegas!!! The food is phenomenal. I crave their marinated artichoke hearts just about every day. I'd make the trip up just for those. The staff is always so sweet. My wife had gone to Milt's 13 years ago with friends. So on our trip to the Shakespearean Festival, we thought we go for a really great dinner before the show. My wife had the Ahi Tuna filet and I had the ribeye steak and lobster. We both had salad bar salads with our meals, as well. The food quality was average to below. The salad bar, for the price, was as basic as salad bars come. We ordered an artichoke: $10, but unfortunately small for the price and near room temperature...except for the middle was had clearly been frozen at some point. And at $35 just for the ribeye and $72 for the lobster tail, I was completely unimpressed. The lobster was huge, but also very dry and not very hot. The steak was tough, not what you expect from a ribeye, and it was also as thin a steak as you could ask for...I'd hoped for a thicker cut given the price. Add to these the lack of attention from the waitress and that's a lot of money for average food and average service. I suspect that locals know better. I didn't see too many other steaks or lobsters on tables around us. read more

On the outskirts of town, located up a lovely canyon, is Milt's. As much as I would love to say Milt's is the bomb, I can't. The scenery is great. The salad bar is very pleasing, with little touches like jello salad, fresh whole scallions and pickled beets. But the steaks are thinly cut and just average. I have had their ribeye and the prime rib, and both cuts are fattier than what most restos serve....so on my last visit I ordered the Sirloin. The menu said it was seasoned and tenderized, I had never had a tenderized steak before and the tenderizer product ruined the taste and smell of my steak, I really disliked it. In addition, I did not like the cut of my steak as it was narrow at the ends...so my medium rare steak was only medium rare at the widest part of the steak, and curled at the two pointy edges. WAH! (I am not a sender-backer) Yet,the next time I am in the small hamlet of Beaver, I will gleefully come to Milt's and order the Ribeye, because regardless of the sub par overpriced meat, the rest of the experience is great. read more

I had the beef kabab (I'd rate that a 2.5 and my bf had the filet which mediocre. I knew the quality would be like Sizzler's and even with that we were disappointed. Ugh. I'll put it this way, if you love Sizzler's or Shoney's you will love this place and their food. If you wouldn't eat at either place, don't eat here. Our waitress was pushy and haphazard. She changed my bf's side order without telling him until she put the plate in front of him. She left our empty, dirty plates in front of us way too long. The buffalo chips seemed either overcooked or cooked once and lazily reheated by re-frying. Our waitress clumsily dropped silverware while clearing our table. The last time our waitress was friendly, this time we had a different server. This time our waitress was not much of a people person. Ugh. No more Milt's! The only place to go for upscale dining in Cedar City. They are known for their steaks and prime rib but everything we have tried has been great. The salad bar is amazing and well stocked with fresh veggies. Great service delivered by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Decent wine list and bar but, you are in Utah and the Bishop's daughter may be your bartender so don't expect too much. We have never had a good cocktail from the bar. I recommend this restaurant, as a tourist to Cedar City, Utah. I think I would also recommend it as a local, too! It is a charming and quaint restaurant, seemingly built into a tree, surrounded by the beautiful woods of the Cedar Breaks National park area, with a pretty swarming fan of tiny hummingbirds. It is a gorgeous view just getting there from the city, and not too far away, though it might seem so. When you enter, you step down into an enchanted petrified forest, almost like a wooden cruise ship, or hunting lodge, replete with bison, moose, deer, and other trophies on the wall. You will be greeted behind a cage of wood by a cheery maiden, and given a wooden plank that you will be surprised is actually a menu. On the other side is information about the 60-year history of the place. The menu is typical steakhouse, and will not surprise you. You have a choice of Prime Ribeye and Porterhouse steaks, and filet mignon for petite women. There is the ancient, but always memorable salad bar. There is even a cooler beside it holding the plates, so when you place the salad on your plate it stays cool. Wow, haven't seen that in a while! I liked the salad bar very much! It is very basic, but very good. You don't have to worry about distinguishing between random, pretentious new-fangled dressings such as "avocado foam soy sunflower extract." This is the real deal. You got your Thousand Island, Ranch, Blue Cheese, and Italian. And they're all good. For frou frou folks, you should be able to get by with their balsamic vinegar and olive oil in old school glass carafes, at the end of the bar. There are even toppings such as sunflower seeds and bacon bits! And of course, croutons. The salad lettuce is fresh and crispy, mostly Romaine and Iceberg, and I enjoy that there were my favorites there: chunky green bell peppers, scallions, beets, and raw purple onions. The service is great. Down to earth and salt of the earth gals and guys. They are no-nonsense, but get the job done, with a smile. I ordered the Ribeye, and it was cooked properly, and had a good sear on it. I thought the french fries were super! Crispy and just the right amount of salt. I also tried their baked potato, which was pretty much what you would expect, but you can add toppings of sour cream, chives, and butter (which I didn't). Their Prime Rib steak is humongous. I don't think you will be able to finish it, especially with the marbling and fat...yum. But you can get everything to go. And the bread is like what your grandma makes, but maybe don't eat too much of it before dinner so you have room for dessert (which I didn't). A definite must if you are in the area. read more

We went here on our last night in Cedar City, and had been to Rusty's and loved it. We enjoyed our meal here, but it really wasn't as good as Rusty's. I know they are the same owners and all, but for some reason, the steaks were just not as good. I had the rib eye and hubby had the prime rib. Ask for the Atomic horseradish if you are a lover of the condiment and enjoy it hot (a little goes a long way). This is a restaurant that has a great wait staff and the patrons are friendly as well. The restaurant is nicely decorated, we were seated by a window overlooking the back yard area and it was very quaint. Our waitress was very friendly, the food was delicious and prices were more than fair for what you get. I never see salad bars anymore and that was a welcome addition. Totally casual and well worth going out of your way to dine there. I had the Filet and Jumbo shrimp surf and turf. Although I love shrimp, over the years I have ordered them less and less. Just because you are in Utah don't be afraid to have the Jumbo battered shrimp at Milt's! The filet was great too. Cooked on the rare side perfectly. This is our favorite steak house in Utah! I was happy that we did not have to wear face masks in the restaurant because the Governor of Utah had lifted the requirement for masks. The staff are wonderful and the restaurant is always clean and inviting. We eat here often and the food is the best and cooked to perfection. The salad bar is the best and so clean. Love this place! Milt's is nestled near the Zion National Park. Friends of ours have a cabin in Duck Creek Village and took us to Milt's for dinner. I had the filet mignon and it cut like butter. Very decisions! What I had to marvel over was the baked potato. Okay, who things a baked potato is spectacular? Me! The potato tasted fresh and the texture was creamy - AND - it had real bacon on it!!!! The salad bar is great too. In summary - great food, great staff, and cool location!! Checked out Milts last night. Saturday, 2/4/17. Had the Prime rib/potato, husband had prime rib/fries. The meat was awesome; cooked perfect. French fries were extrodenaily good. Scott, our server, was pleasant and even had the cook hold off starting our Med Rare meat until i finished my salad. They give you warm bread/butter upon ordering & it was delicious.
