    Turnip cake
    Tania L.

Came here for dinner on a Monday - service was great but the food was a bit oversalted and not as good as its sister restaurant, Sunny's. We had a reservation for 6PM and were seated promptly. Mimi's has a separate tasting menu with a completely different offering from its à la carte menu. We opted to order individual plates, as we wanted to try a variety of its most famous foods! First off were the appetizers - twice-deep fried prawn toast was yummy and filled with sesame, with a satisfying crunch that wasn't too greasy. The turnip cake (which was listed under "vegetables") was all very crispy with a soft interior, and loaded with umami-filled hot chili oil. The glutinous rice-stuffed chicken wings were a yummy bite with a similarly crispy and taut skin. All were good, but the chicken really stole the show for me. The turnip cake was standard (you can get similar at Congee Queen) and expensive considering it was $16 for 8 pieces. Our mains arrived next - the four foot belt noodles were very long and al dente (but SUPER salty), the stir fried greens (pea shoots) had wok hei but also SUPER salty, and the hidden crispy chicken was not as good as its sichuan counterparts. The char siu was pure fat from the pork belly, and so we ordered another char siu ribs which were much more flavourful (would recommend). Overall, the food was so salty that we had to order a white rice, and scarfed that down pretty quickly. Service was friendly and attentive through it all, in line with its high price point. For example, our cups were constantly filled with water through the night. However, food was a bit of a letdown and pretty expensive for what it's worth.

My friend took me to this modern Chinese food restaurant for my birthday which is listed on the Michelin guide in 2025 located near Avenue and Davenport. We ordered the following to share: - signature shrimp toast 5/5 - stuffed chicken wings 4/5 - scallops 4/5 - char Siu (bbq pork) 2.5/5 - stir fry snow peas 3/5 - four foot belt noodle 3/5 Dessert - Lo Mai Chi 2/5 (sorry it was a big miss) Drinks - Jade Emperor ( non alcoholic) formented pineapple, cucumber, celery, soda and chia seeds 4/5 My favourite was the shrimp toast which was crispy and not oily. The stir fry and belt noodles were a little too spicy for my taste. I was looking forward to their char Siu (bbq pork) but was disappointed due to the fatty bits and small bite sizes of the pork. It lacked flavour although they used Niagara honey as their glaze. I would go get the bbq pork at a dim sum place instead. The stir fry snow peas and noodles were quite spicy and salty to our liking. As for the dessert, it was a huge miss for me. We ordered Lor Mai Chi which means mochi dessert and we ended up getting a bowl of coconut fluff digging in to find 3-4 tiny pieces of tasteless mochi bits and 2 small scoops of soybean milk and coconut flavoured ice cream. The presentation was not appetizing I regret picking this over the Ma La Go that every other table ordered. Note that as someone with a food sensitivity to MSG, I was alerted that most of the food have some traces of MSG and I did end up getting a MSG headache afterwards so heads up to MSG sensitive foodies. Overall, the experience and service were good and our server was attentive. I enjoyed the appetizers more than the mains and the dessert was disappointing. Perhaps we picked the wrong dishes so it was not my restaurant of choice.

I'd been hearing a lot about Mimi Chinese over the years, so I was pretty excited to finally check the place out recently. And although it didn't quite live up to my incredibly lofty expectations, it's a solid joint with some very tasty dishes. We were a fairly large group, so we were seated in a very comfortable booth. And we figured it would make sense to share a bunch of different dishes, so that's exactly what we did: Four Food Belt Noodles ("braised beef, jiang xiang sauce, radish"): The gimmick here is that it's indeed one enormous noodle, but it's the sauce that elevates this one. It's spicy and super flavorful, and I was wishing I could've just eaten a bowl of that stuff. House Char Siu ("pork belly, wildflower honey, caramelized soybean"): Again, this boasted an absolutely addictive sauce. The perfectly-cooked pork belly was pretty great, too. The soybeans were a little too tough to really be enjoyable, though. Stir Fried Squid ("chive, black garlic, peanut, dried shrimp paste"): This was probably the weakest dish of the night. The squid was cooked very well and wasn't rubbery at all, but in terms of flavor I felt like this one came up lacking a little. Supreme Fried Rice ("scallop, shrimp, salmon roe, lap cheung"): This dish, on the other hand, was terrific. The rice was cooked really well and was packed with delectable flavors. The stingy amount of seafood (I got one piece of shrimp and zero scallop) was a little disappointing, admittedly, but I enjoyed this enough that it didn't really matter. Do I think that Mimi Chinese was worth the exorbitant amount of money we paid? Probably not, but I have no regrets about going. It's an experience.

Inside was trendy upbeat and the ambiance was great for a date night. Not too loud. We happened to sit near the window that enabled us to see the kitchen work their magic. We ordered the: Stuffed Chicken Wings 3 / 5 - To be frank, the chicken wings were cooked perfectly. Extremely crispy exterior, super hot insides, and smelled extremely savory. The stuffing could use a bit more work in the taste department as it fell a bit flat. The soy sauce that accompanied it was really good and it needed that added help. Four Foot Belt noodle: 5/5 - This had some heat to it. I thought it was fairly good for what it came with and I wasn't too sure about the "show" portion when it came to the table. Yes, the noodle was long, that was the gimmick. My partner thought the noodle needed to be cooked a bit more to not be as springy, but I think it was cooked just right. Black Bean sea bass: 4/5 - This was a steamed fish and it was done just right. The meat was flaky and delicate, but still firm until eating. I was surprised they got the bones (like 95%) of it already out. As a whole fish, it was done well, BUT they did not descale the fish entirely. There were some parts that still had bone / scales on it. So, just be a bit wary, though you are ordering a whole fish. The black bean part did not come out as strong as I thought it would and the ginger and scallion does make it smell very fragrant. Mixed Greens: 4/5 - Well cooked. Was a tad too salty and i thought it would honestly be spicy as I thought I saw the chili flakes, it was not. House Char Siu: 5/5 - Order it, can't disappoint. We ordered a bowl of rice to come along with it because we didn't want to get a fried rice, but we also felt like everything else we ordered wouldn't go well with the char siu. Rice - Tasted a bit different. Was not the soft fluffy jasmine rice that you would get. This was still good and had its own distinct texture. Service was absolutely impeccable. They were attentive and the timing of the food coming out the kitchen was top tier. Food: 3.5/5 (I think there needs a bit of work on the seasoning and saltiness) Service: 5/5 Price Point: 3.5 / 5 Overall: 12/15 This wasn't as amazing as I was hoping for, but it could definitely reach there. I think there's a bit of work for some dishes to elevate it to that 5/5.

Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Vibe 5/5 If you looking for fusion Chinese (Szechuan) style food with great service and vibes, this will be the spot for you. It's definitely more catered to western tastebuds, so not as spicy but the flavors are still great! Highly recommend their stuffed chicken wings. Really loved their radish cake but it was too oily and portion are smoll I think it's a great Chinese fusion spot in dt Toronto with great pricing (comparing with other fancish spots).

We had our anniversary dinner here and it was so so good. First of all, it's hard to find a good high end Chinese restaurant. Chinese food is typically know for being quick, greasy, and super delicious but rarely do we see it super refined for a fine dining setting. However, Mimi Chinese manages to pull it off. They provided a classy high end dining experience with amazing elevated Chinese dishes. Our favourites were surprisingly the dry pot Chinese cauliflower and house char Siu which were both cooked to perfection and well seasoned. The four foot belt noodles were also super delicious and the server puts on a bit of a show to show you how long the noodles really are. Not to worry, they do cut up the noodles after so they are easy to eat. We also had the steam cakes which had this sauce poured over it. It was served warm and was so fluffy and not too sweet. The service was also very lovely. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable the food and regions in which the dishes came from. I definitely see why Mimi Chinese earned their Michelin recognition and we definitely plan on coming back.

Came here for my birthday dinner this year and absolutely loved it. Every dish we had was perfection, biggest surprise was that the Chinese style steamed fish was fully deboned while keeping its authentic flavours. We were only able to get bar seating but the bartender was equally knowledgeable in all the dishes and service was great. Ambiance is very dark, black and red vibes, good for date night but a tad bit too dark for my liking.

A Chinese upscale experience that is worth a try! I learned about this place as our group was interested in Sunnys Chinese which received a Michelin bib gourmand, but it was not open the day we chose to gather. However, Mimi was available and was under the same ownership. The service was excellent, as it was our first time trying and our server was very attentive the whole evening, and answered a lot of our questions around the food and what to select! The standouts for me were the special menu item of the fried radish cake dish, the eggplant, and the ma lai go steamed cake. The radish cake was very nostalgic, and the texture was great. The eggplant also had the same thing going on with the blend of charred edges and soft insides. The steamed cake was delicious with the custard! Special mention for the sea bass as well which was cooked perfectly, and was so tender! Overall great flavours all around. For the dishes we had, it came out to about $350, which was close to the tasting menu which is another option. Overall value wise there might be some room for improvement for larger portions for some of the dishes like fried rice, noodles, etc. but they were fine for splitting for our group of three people.

This was such a nice experience! From the staff greeting at the door and taking your coat to the ambiance of the venue with the red and black, even in the bathroom with the beautiful gold leaf mirror. The menu has so many interesting items on it, and I love that it's family styles that you can try lots of different things. Our server was fabulous at telling us how many items we needed and what items complimented the other others. The cauliflower was shockingly one of the favorites. Even the pork belly was really nice with the right balance of fat to meet. The fancy belt noodles were really delicious, but they are very spicy so if you are not good with spice, I wouldn't order them, but we really love them. I don't think I would recommend the stuffed chicken wings. They sound like they're gonna be good, but they were difficult to eat and all of the other items were much better. The fried chicken, for instance, was perfect.

I'm impressed that chef elevated Chinese dishes to Michelin level. Service was excellent. Great explanations and portion recommendations. Love the modern feel.

MIMIs is the much fancier sister restaurant to SUNNYS, and it is much much better in comparison. If you wanted to try one and had to choose, go for MIMIs as you'll have a much more upscale experience of elevated Chinese food. MIMIs has a nice dark intimate atmosphere that has bar and table (plus bench) seating with many options from a party room to a table for two. Definitely book a spot ahead just in case. The table service was great, our server was attentive and had great timing and their recommendations on portions and menu selection were spot on. For every signature dish, someone from the kitchen also presented the plate/course and can answer any questions. We had (about 4 - 6 dishes were recommended for 2 people as shareables): - hot and sour glass noodle; it is on the spicier side and quite salty, we wished there was more noodles, but it's a great starter - stuffed chicken wing; this was a great surprise, they actually debone the drumette/wingette and stuffed it with fragrant sticky rice, only the tip was left with the bone in, the flavored soy sauce that they provided was also a big win, we asked where they got it from and they told us! Lucky Moose, I will be making a trip to find this very fragrant soy sauce soon - house char siu; we saw other tables order this and its basically a full plate of pork belly char cui, it was heavenly, soft and full of flavor - four foot belt noodles; it was basically one long piece of noodle, they do the viral noodle pull before they cut it up to be served, the noodles are served more al dente - dry pot chinese cauliflower; this was a stir fried (probably in a wok) and had the classic wok-he flavor and was very balanced, I would order this as my carb the next time I visit instead of a noodle or rice dish, the wind-cured pork are little bits of flavor bombs when you get a lucky bite - we also ordered two drinks: a Mangosteen and a warm cinnamon based drink, the liquor used are chinese baiju and similar and between the water and drinks, it lasted the whole meal - Malay go; a custard filled steamed bun drizzled with a sweet soy bean sauce, it was very filling and a nice finish to the meal Being curious on the changing menu, we were told that they switch it up about 3 - 4 times a year, so its good to be a regular. For the whole experience we were there pretty much all of the 1.5 h booking and it was a nice pace and vibe. Would very much be back to try their other items on special occasions.

I'll say this about Mimi's, the decor/ambiance and the service is everything! All the servers were top notch, you will definitely be treated right Ok...so the food. I've heard about this place from a few people, so I was excited to try it out. Unfortunately, was pretty underwhelmed by everything. Overall I found most of the dishes overly salty . I don't eat pork and as some dishes had pork incorporated in them, they could put the pork separately so everyone at the table could enjoy the dish. Going with a big group we tried numerous dishes. Pretty much everyone in the group wasn't blown away either. I'll start with the things I liked. Chicken dumplings were pretty good, I could eat a plate of these. The sea bass was pretty decent as well. I did enjoy the smacked cucumber salad as well. Fresh and crunchy, it provided a good relief to the other salty dishes (As I don't eat pork, my group ordered the Char Siu and they all raved about it...apparently the best dish they tried ) Stuffed chicken wings - found it to be too mushy inside , didn't care for the texture. The famous four foot belt noodle - this is all the Tik Tok rave, but it was way too salty for me. Only impressed by the presentation. Supreme fried rice (pork on the side). Again another salty dish, and for $33, was disappointed. Eggplant - ok, nothing special, would recommend eating it fast bc otherwise it sits in the sauces and becomes more mushy. Luckily, with 6 people and the amount of dishes we ordered, the price was ok once split, but honestly felt meh overall. I'm glad I tried it but I don't see myself going back.

My gf I traveled to Toronto for a few days and decided to have dinner at Mimi Chinese and let me tell you this place is so freaking good! We ended up getting a few drinks, had to get the one that comes in a Panda cup. All of the food we ordered was delicious! We really enjoyed the hidden crispy chicken, house char shiu, and four foot belt noodle. We really enjoyed all of the dishes and would definitely get them again. The interior was very modern and chic, great for date night or business meeting. The workers were nice and helpful with suggestions, so don't be nervous to ask your server questions. I'm already salivating at the thought of going back!

Located on the 31st floor of the St. Regis Hotel, the restaurant has an incredible atmosphere. We started the evening with cocktails before moving into the Summerlicious menu. I ordered the "I Only Drink When I Smoke," which was a great way to start the night. It had a subtle smoky flavour with a touch of sweetness, and the alcohol was not overpowering at all. It was smooth, easy to sip on, and the perfect drink to enjoy while having conversations. For my Summerlicious menu, I started with the Tartare de Boeuf and Caviar. The filet mignon tartare was fresh and really smooth, with a nice balance of rich and savoury flavours. The toasted bread also gave it a nice crunch and paired really well with the tartare. For the main course, I had the Roasted Chateaubriand Filet. When the plate was served, the meat looked really rare as I saw nothing but red on the meat, but it was incredibly tender, making it easy to cut through. It was full of flavour, and the sauce complemented the steak without being too heavy or salty. The vegetables added a nice balance to the dish, and the creamy mashed potatoes were smooth, and definitely one of my favourite parts of the meal. To finish, I had the Mango Passionfruit Cheesecake. It was creamy without feeling too heavy. Though the fruity flavours from the mango passionfruit were a bit tart and sweet for my palate, it still gave an overall refreshing touch. The crust added a nice texture, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Beyond the food, what really stood out was the service and pacing of the evening. Each course arrived at the right time, allowing us to enjoy every dish without feeling rushed. The price point is definitely on the higher end, so it is not somewhere I would personally visit for a casual dinner on a regular basis. However, for a special occasion, celebration, or a night where you want to enjoy a beautiful dining experience, I think Louix Louis would be a great choice... and for $75/ person for Summerlicious/ Winterlicious, definitely a great value to sample the chefs' artistry. Overall, it was a memorable evening with an elegant atmosphere, thoughtfully prepared dishes, and great service. I can definitely understand why this spot has become such a popular destination, and I would love to come back again for Winterlicious!

Perched high above the bustle of downtown Toronto, LOUIX LOUIS makes a compelling first impression…read more The dining room is genuinely handsome -- a study in polished Art Deco glamour softened by sweeping city views that lend every table a sense of occasion. On a Valentine's Day brunch visit, the atmosphere alone was enough to justify the reservation. The kitchen demonstrates genuine competence: dishes arrive with care, the pacing is unhurried, and the mise en scène -- from tableside presentation to that now-famous thirteen-layer chocolate cake -- reveals an establishment that understands the theatre of fine dining. That towering slice of chocolate cake, in particular, is a masterstroke of marketing and pastry craft in equal measure; it draws the eye, earns its reputation, and very nearly steals the show. Where LOUIX LOUIS gives one pause is in the cuisine's ability to fully match its surroundings. The cooking is accomplished and reliably pleasant, yet seldom rises to the level of genuine distinction one might hope for at this price point. Dishes satisfy without surprising; technique is evident but inspiration, at moments, feels held in reserve. For the corporate traveller or the visitor seeking a polished, geographically convenient showcase of the city's skyline, this represents an entirely sound choice. For those seeking an experience whose flavours linger as long as the view, the kitchen has room yet to grow into its magnificent stage. Service is attentive and well-intentioned, though it can occasionally want for the depth of knowledge that elevates a good meal into a memorable one. LOUIX LOUIS is, in sum, a very good restaurant striving -- not quite yet arriving -- at greatness. The bones are exceptional; one hopes the culinary vision will, in time, catch up with them.
