My family and I dined in around 730pm and were seating immediately(as expected for that time). I decided to go for a seasonal menu item(since I am a sucker for all things pumpkin). I ordered the pumpkin french toast, service was great and the food came out relatively quick. The presentation of the food was nice and my first bite was exactly what I hoped for. The pumpkin filling can be a bit sweet so on my next visit here I would more than likely ask for less filling but besides that small sugar rush the restaurant is in good standing with me. read more

My guest and I had to have come in on toward the end of the day while this location was noticeably understaffed. =\ On our way back to San Diego from LA, we stopped over, looking for nourishment and a good break from traffic. A couple locations in SD closed, so we were happy and excited to spot a place we missed so much! Anyhoo, we got seated promptly, being handed menus to look over for a couple minutes. Our drink orders were taken right away. We went ahead and ordered the mains and a cup of French onion soup. Quite a bit of time had gone by before before we had to check with our server on the drinks. I completed a pit stop in the restroom, which usually takes a good five minutes. Another five or so after I returned to my seat, a family of 6+ always seated before we stopped in were JUST being served their drinks and given bread. I understood that they were probably down to a single cook and a few servers. Our soup came out, but we had to "prod" our server about the drinks. A few minutes later our meals came out too. Great! We looked around just to be sure, but had to ask about bread. It's one of those things I was ready to overlook, but my guest pointed out it's usually brought out along with the drinks. Thankfully the food was delicious. I had the meat loaf which I thought came a bit overdone, but my hunger overshadowed any desire to say anything to the staff. At the end of the day, we passed on an opportunity for dessert, because we were ready to go...and I could tell the staff really was too. This is my caution to anyone dining an hour or two near closing hours. Also, that family of 6+ before us ended up having their meals boxed because it was pretty late. read more

My visit to Mimis Cafe in Downey today, Monday, July 31, 2023, was wonderful. Made wonderful by this great waitress by the name of Darlene. She was so personable, kind, and attentive. Ordered my favorite, French Onion Soup, and it tasted wonderful. I also ordered the turkey dinner, which was ok, the Stuffing was dry as if it didn't sit long enough to absorb the liquid, I mentioned it to Darlene, and she was on it. Will be returning and hoping that I get Darlene as my server again. read more

The waitress taking our order needs to sharpen her people skills. My food was horrible. Cold, burnt chewy corned beef, frozen potatoes that seemed to be twice fried and while I ordered over medium eggs, I got over easy. The English muffin was also burnt. Very Bad Experience- Since we pulled into the parking lot I got a bad vibe. There was so much debris in the parking lot. The wait was reasonable for sunday brunch. However, we were taken into the back and the tables were still wet from recent cleaning but the food was dusted off onto the seats. Gross! Our waitress (Estefani) had us waiting so I asked an adjacent waiter(Josua) to place our order. Not once did our waitress check on us as we waiting over 20 minutes for our food. At least, let us know our order was placed. I had to flag her down just to make sure we weren't just sitting there. The only thing she did right was offer us water but it took forever along with the food. When I asked her for condiments I saw her check in on 2 other customers before she went to the back to get what I asked for. She wasn't taking their orders or doing anything to help anyone else. The restrooms were overfilling with trash and looked like they have not been checked on in hours. I was frustrated waiting for the check that I asked for it up front. I asked to pay for it there and then. I just wanted to get our of there. The guy appeared to be the manager but he passed my request over to another employee. He proceeded to pour himself a cup of coffee and went upstairs. Apparently, customers do not come first and it reflects on their service. Way better choices. Do not come here. read more

Dont come here! This place is runned down, overpriced and extremely slow service. Was told the wait would be 15-20 mins, we waited 45 mins. We finally got our table and the party next to us had her purse and glasses on our table!!!! The hostess didnt even wipe our table down, Didnt even apologize. Waited another 45 minutes to finally get our meal. Breakfast Potatoes were super dry. Chicken and waffle is just one piece of small chicken cutlet. Food portion was small and definitely not worth the price. , this spot is understaffed and employees are overworked. , I usually dont write bad reviews, but I just had to rate and share this restaurant.  Please support your local mom and pop restaurant or anywhere else for that matter. visited mimi's to eat breakfast and to be honest it was not as i expected at all, the service was ok, it's really unorganized and it seemed like they needed help, maybe they're understaffed. the food wasn't as appetizing as the presentations online or on the menu, the portions are way too small, i got a breakfast burrito and it had only a small string of beef. a lot of people come in though, maybe i just got the wrong thing but i got four plates and none of them were good. the vibe felt a bit tense but again maybe it was because they might be understaffed but it is a really beautiful spot, i like the layout of the restaurant. i'll come back though, for dinner. mimis has one more chance with me! read more

Disappointing. Ridiculous. Lost my appetite. I'm not one to waste food but if you look at the pictures, there is my proof that the food was already a waste. Microwaved food looks more appetizing than this. We told our waitress that we wouldn't eat it and we want the bill. One would think that basic common courtesy is to remove the price of the meals not eaten, but instead we were charged for them. I didn't want them to think that we wanted it for free, so we paid. The receipt comes with a number to call, to complain, but the number doesn't work. We paid and left disgusted. I bet this place is going to close down soon if they don't hire professionals to cook. I made the mistake of reading reviews after my visit. Don't make the same mistake I made! Read the reviews and just keep driving. This is not worth your time and money. read more
