INTRO: Every business has the potential for a first time and a last time visit. Mimi's just had the good fortune to have them both occur at the exact same time... and I don't think I want to come back. This is all you really need to read. WHY THE DISSATISFACTION?: I am not sure how long the meat slices, served as part of the turkey dinner, had been sitting out but, if the meat were any drier it could be confused with chalk. Next, when I tapped on the stuffing with the back of my fork those who were dining across the large round 9-seater table from me could hear the knocking sound that defined it as possibly needing to be ranked via the Janka Hardness Scale (Google it). It is stuffing for crying out loud. Others at the table had a great delay to their meal due to it not being served for whatever reason. Someone on the opposite side of the table had something wrong with their food too but, I couldn't hear the complaint die to their soft spoken voice. Maybe they could have tapped out their complaint in Morse code on my stuffing. HOPELESS IN DOWNEY: Dear Abbey, Please add this to a group of restaurants that includes Pop's, BJ's and Yoli's that is flat out an embarrassment to the town of Downey, CA... which really has some extraordinary new restaurants. CENSUS REPORT: I counted 36 people dining... it isn't like they were slammed. The waiter even sensed my disappointment and offered a meal replacement... think about it... everyone else is half done so by the time my food gets here they may as well bring a box too. If I wanted to eat at home, I could have made something at home. Another patron at our table didnt have his food delivered until nearly the end of the gathering. Unacceptable, right? Yes... Right. WASSUPP? I am currently composing this at the table (will save to my drafts until I get to speak to a manager on the phone in the next couple of days - let's see how that goes) and now we are waitng on a to go order... for more than 12 minutes... Now we asked to have that taken off our bill. It was just a burger and fries. BACK WHEN I WAS A KID... : When I first moved here, my fiancee told grand tales of yesteryear... how Mimi's was the place to eat. A true highlight of Downey... especially a waiter named Eon or Ayon. Well, he is long gone so, I am sorry. I don't see anything that leads me to believe this place is worth a second chance. The service was bad, we called prior to getting there, they said 0 minutes. We get here, a party of 5, they tell us 25 min wait, ok not bad right. 45 minutes later we ask if our table is ready. Please note that parties that arrived after us, were seated first. When we ask the hostess, they crossed out our name and gave our table to another party. We are seated and we are ready to order. I got the Eggs Benedict, out of all the wrong ways it was cooked, one of the muffins was cooked as a french toast. Not to mention they got one our drinks wrong. I always heard good things about this place, unfortunately it was a disappointment. No communication between the hostess, the food was cold and not cooked to the dishes' proper standard. We had a decent breakfast experience at this Mimi's! I evaluate a restaurant mainly by the service, price, quality, and whether I can make the dish(es) better at home for cheaper. I arrived earlier than my friend, but when she came we were seated right away. We got coffee for $3/$3.50, exact price is slipping my mind. But it was fine. The actual breakfast was great. I got quiche Lorraine and potatoes for ~$10. On the menu it said it came with sliced tomatoes, which was a bummer because I despise tomatoes. But the waitress gave me the option of potatoes instead for no extra cost, which were crispy and well-seasoned. The quiche was also TOP quality. It was soft, full of cheeses, bacon and onion. I asked if they had a garlic sauce for the potatoes and they brought out a bunch of their garlic butter. It was amazing, highly recommend asking for it if you like garlicky dip. I do the think the food is just a tad overpriced for the amount you get. But the quality is very high, definitely better than what I can do at home, so it's very easy to recommend this restaurant to a friend. read more

I went to Mimi's Café with my family for Thanksgiving for the turkey dinner special. It is necessary to make reservations ahead of time because it gets packed. If you make reservations, then the wait time will be less. Our server was attentive and always checked on us even when it was overpacked. We ordered the Holiday Turkey Dinner which comes with turkey breast, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, stuffing, and green bean casserole. The whole meal comes with an appetizer and dessert. The choice of dessert can be either pumpkin or pecan pie. The best part of all is the complimentary bread with butter. The food was good, especially the mashed potatoes. Food was hot and delicious. I really like that they have a Thanksgiving dinner special because it's convenient for small families who don't want to cook a lot of food. I did try Mimi's, after many years of not going, and I should have kept it at that. It was a TERRIBLE experience!!! It started out by waiting an hour after our reservation time to sit down at our table. Then being talked to absolutely RUDELY by the young hostess. She was so inappropriate and not how any person working in customer service should be. There were other customers standing around that made faces of disbelief of what she had said to me. Then being taken to our table by this same hostess (did I mention an hour after our reservation time!), and she quickly walked ahead of our large party, sat the menus on the table before we had even gotten to the table, then walked away. She then proceeded to walk thru the doorway as we were still walking in and bumped into me, instead of standing back and allowing me to walk thru the door, and then bumped into my father as well behind me. I then asked to talk to a manager, enough was enough! We then waited a good 10 minutes at the table until told anyone came up to us, brought us water or anything, and at that point we had decided we were leaving, as we were so hungry and didn't want to wait another hour to get food possibly (on top of having a limited menu of just a few items, which would not work for our gluten free and vegetarian family members). The waitress then walked away in the middle of me explaining to her that we were leaving and why. The managing of reservations and seating customers was awful! And to add on to that being talked to so respectfully...and of all days, on Mother's Day! read more

Haven't been in the restaurant for a while and it was so so nothing worth coming back for. Prices are a little bit expensive for the quality of food. Server was not friendly at all. The coffee was not hot it was more on the cooler side. He was upset about it when we asked him to get us a warmer cup of coffee. C'mon Mimi's do better!!! read more

It had been years since we've been to Mimi's, and I'm so glad we came back! The food and the service was fantastic! I have been going to this particular Mimi's Cafe for well over 20 years. I ordered an omelet with country potatoes. Keep in mind that I usually always get an item with county potatoes. Today, when I tasted the potatoes they were so spicy that my mouth was burning. This seems to be a huge trend lately because it seems to be happening at all my favorite places to eat in Los Angeles County. Unless you would like to wait over one hour for your food to arrive I would not eat here. The service is the worst of all the Mimi's I have tried. The food once it arrives is very good but the service lacks tremendously. No utensils on the table. The tea arrived without honey, lemon or additional hot water. The waitress took our order and we never saw her again. After I complained the hostess informed me she got sick. Well, our table should have been assigned to another server. I Asked for water never received it. The check came $50 without any compensation or apology for the over one hour wait. I should have just walked out. read more

I went for Father's Day although it was really busy and we had a big party, Desire made sure she kept checking on our table frequently and making sure we got everything we ne. My toddler needed to use the restroom and they were actually maintained pretty clean so that's a plus. I got a ribeye steak with sautéed onion and mushrooms definitely did not disappoint! Stopped in for breakfast with the wife. We were greeted and seated quickly, and efficiently with a smile. Mimi's is a chain restaurant with locations all over the place. I am not a big fan, but my wife LOVES their muffins. It was kinda busy - Mimi's usually is for breakfast and it was Labor Day. I ordered a Ham & Swiss breakfast crepe and she had a muffin and a side of fruit. It took a little longer than I hoped but it is Labor Day. The Chardonnay sauce on the crepe gave it a nice flavor and I enjoyed it. The potatoes were a little overdone, but not enough to worry about. As usual the muffin was awesome and she was very happy. The fruit was good and fresh as well. The coffee is far better than Starbuck's and the waiter was pretty good at supplying my morning fix. They put as many tables as possible in restaurants and planes and everything else to get as many people as possible in. So it's noisy and not very private. But you can always ask for a booth and it will be more private - but just as noisy. Another OK visit to Mimi's. read more
