It has been a while since I reviewed a restaurant. I've wanted to, but only like to give positive reviews, at this stage of life. None had accomplished an excellent review like today's brunch at Mimi's café in IRVINE. We all remember the original Mimi's Café, they have closed so many of them, but this one still stands and has been there for as long as I can remember. Walking in was like a trip back in time, such great memories!!!! The food was excellent. Everything was top-notch quality, hot, and flavorful, I haven't had a meal that outstanding for years. The people that work there obviously care for this establishment, they were attentive. The ice water glasses were sparkling clean. But let me get to the food. I opened with a vanilla latte that was outstanding with just the right amount of foam. I had the three egg omelette, stuffed with spinach and topped with bacon and brie. It came with roasted potatoes and a muffin- I had the honey bran. My friend, Patricia, had homemade corned beef hash with poached eggs and potatoes & a muffin, as well. The wait staff was cordial & knew his job and the hostess was darling. I can't say enough about what a great meal it was from beginning to end and really worth the cost. Obviously, I highly recommend

Our office ordered Mimi's catering today for our early Thanksgiving (/potluck) celebration. We had the ham and turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The meats were dry since they were already sliced up. Mashed potatoes, gravy, broccoli, cranberries sauce were all okay. It used to be much better when our family ate right there at the restaurant. 3.5/5

Mimi's Cafe is a chain of casual restaurants serving American food with a touch of French bistro influence that I visit occasionally. Authentic or not, their onion soup is richly flavorful and delicious and is topped with a generous portion of melted cheese. It is probably one of their signature dishes on the menu. Some of my other favorites include their pot roast which is cooked French style in a red wine sauce and parmesan crusted chicken breast filet served over linguini with a zesty marinara sauce. I recently had a chicken pot pie, and it was surprisingly good. For some reasons it is quite difficult to find a good and hearty chicken pot pie in the Southland. I was impressed at first glance by its buttery, flaky, and perfectly golden-brown crust. The pie was stuffed with plenty of chicken and vegetables blended in a rich and savory sauce. The only slight disappointment was that it was a bit dry. It would have been perfect if there were more sauce inside the pie. But overall, I was happy about the meal. And don't forget that they have some of the best breakfasts in town. I am a big fan of their breakfast potatoes and house made sausages. Their quiches are also a great breakfast option that are not available in too many places early in the morning. Last but not the least, don't forget to check out their fried chicken and waffles.

Came in on Wednesday night to celebrate anniversary dinner. We were sat after a short wait. Only about six tables occupied. Server brought drinks and took our food order. Answered questions about preparation. The food arrived promptly and was very attractively presented and delicious! We all cleaned our plates and ordered two desserts for the three of us to share. Chocolate lava cake and Tiramisu are highly recommended by us. Paid slightly more than the three of us spent at Dennys recently, but infinitely better quality. read more

We stopped in for a quick breakfast today. Our server, Amaro, was prompt, kind and efficient. The muffins were baked fresh - so much better than I remembered! I had bacon and eggs - standard and very good. The potatoes were delicious. My husband had the breakfast tacos which were even better. It is an ok place for breakfast - not great but not bad either. I had corned beef hash and a mimosa. Both were ok. Since this place is close to my house, I will probably go again. However, it is not a place I would go out of my way to go to. Medium age for a Sunday breakfast is in the senior age bracket, not that there is anything wrong with that. read more

Visited on a Sunday at around 11:30am and while I understand that those are peak hours, the service was arguably lacking. Our server was friendly and timely with taking our orders but the food took VERY long to come out- around 45 minutes to an hour. I ordered their Bacon Avocado Omelet with white toast and while I ended up finishing a majority of my plate, I attribute this to the fact that I was extremely hungry after waiting a long time for our food. I was also a little disappointed to find out that even though it's called a Bacon Avocado Omelet, they only give you two pieces of bacon on top and there are no pieces inside the actual omelette. Not to mention, the portions are small given the relatively higher prices. I will admit though that their potatoes are DELICIOUS. I think this place is a mediocre breakfast/brunch spot so I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. read more

We came here for the old American diner experience and we got it. The decor its neat. We sat inside and for a moment we forgot we were in Irvine. There are plenty of areas to sit inside and an outside option is available. The server came to us quickly and delivered our drinks just as fast. The menu is well planned and you are sure to find what you are looking for. If I remember correctly breakfast is served all day. The prices were also pretty good and the meals were fulfilling. I recommend this place for families, couples or just to get out of the house (or feel like you've left Irvine for a moment). It definitely has a small-town far from the city feel. read more

I feel the need to post a review of this Mimi's. This particular location had slid in service 6 years ago and we stopped going. Recently, we've been there several times for lunch and dinner and have to say everything is excellent. Food is as good as ever. Especially the comfort food staples, like their meatloaf, pot roast, and turkey dinners. So glad they turned around and are still at this location, as so many of the American restaurants have been displaced from Irvine. read more

Terrible food and service. We ordered a club sandwich and chicken pot pie. The club only included huge slices of Turkey and bacon. Both meals were un eatable. We went back to the location to speak with a manager. They said they didn't have one and wouldn't for days. Then an angry man calling himself Eric said he was the manager and demanded we leave. Which we did. We tried to reach management but the corporate phone numbers don't work. Very sad experience because we used to go to Mimi's often. It is not what it used to be. read more

It would have been a great experience; however, all me and my wife could smell was the cleaner used to clean our outside patio table. Please switch to a scent free cleaner. Its not pleasant smelling cleaner when trying to enjoy a meal. There's no benefit to using a cleaner with such a strong scent. read more

I started with the Singe Germain, made with Monkey 47 Gin, St. Germain, crème de cassis, and lemon juice. This was easily one of the best cocktails I have ever had. It was so good that I ordered two more. My wife got the Rizière de Lychee, which seemed like their take on a lychee martini. The vanilla notes made it unique and really enjoyable, but we both agreed that the Singe Germain was the star cocktail of the night. One of our favorite appetizers at any restaurant is yellowtail crudo or hamachi, and Marché Moderne's version was incredible. The fish practically melted in our mouths, but the mango-yuzu-jalapeño sorbet on top was ridiculous. That sorbet could honestly be served as its own dish. Our only complaint was how quickly the whole thing disappeared. We also tried the grilled octopus petit plat. It leaned more Spanish than French to me, especially with the chorizo, and the potatoes and chorizo ended up being our favorite parts. We both tend to prefer cold appetizers over hot ones, so next time we will probably try the tataki instead, but the octopus was still very good. We ordered the bread as well. Despite all the reviews praising it, I thought it was good, but not necessarily life-changing. The real star was the butter with the big flakes of salt on top. For our mains, my wife ordered the Hokkaido scallops and I got the filet au poivre, essentially their steak frites. The steak frites was incredible. The sauce alone was enough reason to order the entire dish. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and the tableside presentation made it feel even more special. They first placed down the fries and salad, then brought over the steak in the sauce, transferred it onto the plate, and poured the sauce over the top. They asked whether I wanted sauce over the fries too, which was obviously an immediate yes. The fries were good, although I thought they could have used a little more salt. The salad surprised me the most. I originally assumed it was just there to fill out the plate, but the vinaigrette was fantastic and made it something I actually wanted to keep eating. My wife loved the scallops, which was not surprising because she is a huge scallop fan. The dish itself was somewhat bare, though. It was essentially a few scallops with sauce, so if we had not also been sharing the steak frites and several appetizers, I do not think it would have been enough for her as an entrée by itself. Lastly, we ordered the crème brûlée, and this might have been the best dish of the entire night. It came with berries and a hazelnut cake underneath. Because we were celebrating our anniversary, they wrote "Happy 5 Year Anniversary" in chocolate ganache next to it, which paired ridiculously well with the crème brûlée. That little detail also perfectly summarizes the service. Our server answered every question I had about the menu, asked what we were celebrating, recommended the incredible Singe Germain, and made us feel completely at home. Another gentleman came by to talk with us, and we casually mentioned that it was our fifth anniversary. They did not just remember that it was an anniversary. They remembered that it was five years and included that specific detail on our dessert plate. That extra bit of thoughtfulness meant a lot to us. My only small disappointment was the seating. I had heard that one side of the restaurant has a large window where you can watch the chefs cook, but we were seated closer to the bar and could not see it. It did not hurt the meal, but next time I would love to request a table on the kitchen side. My wife and I have eaten at Michelin-starred restaurants from California to New York City, including everything from one to three stars, and Marché Moderne has the makings of something truly special. The food was excellent, but the service and hospitality took the entire experience to another level. Overall, this was about a 4.7 out of 5 for us. We will absolutely be back, and I cannot believe it took us five years to finally come here.

Sigh. I have really given Mimis more than enough chances. I really do love that French Onion Soup! Unfortunately their lack of quality control from the kitchen and poor response from the management has made me not want to go there anymore. The last 6 times that I have gone there has been something grossly wrong with my food. One time the soup was still frozen in the middle. Another time the bread was frozen. If we request something on the side, it still comes on the meal. If we request no onions, they are still on there. Several times the server has brought out food that was obviously wrong and then scurried away before we could ask for it to be corrected. One time the manager happened to walk by (when my soup was a large frozen chunk in the middle). So what's the problem then you ask... :) I ordered a pancake plate. Problems: Order was missed in kitchen, when I finally got them (finally cause I kept hearing the waitress keep asking for them about 7-10 times) they were not cooked! I can perhaps understand burnt pancakes, but uncooked? I'd hate to try any of their poultry considering pancakes are pretty easy to make. My daughter and I went for breakfast this morning to Mimi's Cafe in Fountain Valley. It was delicious. I had brioche with strawberries and blueberries on top. My daughter had a veggie omelette. The service was excellent. Our server was Carrie. We talked about how crowded Mimi's used to be and discussed some of the menu items they used to have. We suggested that they try to bring back some of those items so that people would want to come back again. There were not very many people in the restaurant at the time that we were there. I like that atmosphere here at Mimi's and the French and Louisiana style decor. The food is also really quite good although very very heavy and you leave with that uncomfortable bloated feeling. I get the same thing from most Italian and Indian restauraunts. I never get that feeling at say a Thai or vietnamese restaurant. I love the muffins they serve at Mimi's and it seems like most of the meals I've ever ordered here come with a muffin for whatever reason. Not really encouraging, plus the dining room to the left of the lobby is depressing looking. Loved going to Mimi's in former years, but this once good chain-restaurant has gone downhill; maybe it's just the Irvine location that isn't working out? Friendly staff but the food was not good. My chicken was undercooked and two people I was with their fish was not cooked. We had to have them remake it and when it came back it was dry and gross. I had pretty much already lost my appetite by this time because I bit into pretty much raw chicken . The staff was nice enough, but food not so good. read more

There's so much stuff stacked on the taco I thought the fish would be impossible to taste through all the other ingredients, but my friend said he could still taste the fish and thought it was well cooked I particularly liked all the healthy choices like zucchini instead of fries. The one thing I didn't really like was the ordering kiosks. It's fine to have these for the regularly regulars who know what they want. But for a first timer you have questions and no one to answer them. Also, I found it a little annoying standing in line ... It takes people forever to order with all of the options. It might save a little labor for the restaurant, but it really makes ordering take a long time. The prices were also very reasonable. I'm definitely coming back.
