I've passed by this restaurant countless times and finally got a chance to stop by for lunch. Their indoor seating was open so I dined in and ordered their trio lunch special for around $12. I tried their corn chowder which arrived cold so I asked if they could microwave it which they did. The chicken ciabatta sandwich was filling and the fries were surprisingly tasty. We came here on Saturday June 17th, 2023. I ordered the quiche Lorraine. It was horrible. Undercooked dough and the eggs were extremely fluffy. I used to love the quiche at Mimi's. The recipe has definitely changed. I ended up sending my food back. I enjoyed the strawberry lemonade. My boyfriend ordered the omelette there was hardly any meat inside and the potatoes were still hard. They used to offer red potatoes now they are just regular cut up russet potatoes. I won't be returning to Mimi's Cafe anytime soon. Food definitely is not what it used to be. read more

I was really looking forward to finally coming here and was hoping for a better experience. The person who greeted me and sat me was really nice and I decided to sit at the bar because I was by myself and just stopped by for a quick late lunch from being out running errands in the neighborhood all day. The place was pretty empty and I was the only one at the bar but there were a few tables in one of the dining areas. The glasses that my water and sodas came in were crunchy on the outside when you grabbed them, and that was pretty gross so I asked for plastic to-go cups in hopes they were clean(er). If the glasses are dirty, I worry about what else might be. The salad I ordered sounded great on the menu but it was pretty basic and not stellar, plus the lettuce was too big and should be cut smaller. The salt and pepper shakers they handed me must have been sitting in water because they were wet on the bottom which was unpleasant. Sitting alone at the bar gave me a lot of time to look around, and this building could benefit from some TLC or a facelift, it's old! The area behind the bar was pretty sloppy and not great to look at, so I probably won't sit there again but I definitely want to come back someday and try again. read more

The food is awful. I ordered eggs Benedict. The eggs were completely raw. The sauce was watery and tested like sink water. Around a month ago we were trying to find a breakfast spot to go to Downtown as that's where we were, and I kid you not, every place was so full. It's like San Diego has been tired of staying home. So we called Mimis because my cousin said she liked their breakfast and they said the wait would be 20 minutes and because we were about 20 min away we opted for them. We were seated and not long after, we were served, which I always take into consideration when we're sitting down at a restaurant. We ordered our food and then our waitress asked if we'd like anything while we wait and she suggested the blueberry muffins. I WISH I GOT A PICTURE of this muffin. We only got one and my cousin and I split that muffin, then we realized that we should have each gotten our own LOL, so we ordered another one and split that one. I make my own blueberry muffins and always prefer homemade muffins. This tasted just like that! So good with melted butter and some coffee to wash it down, I'm drooling just thinking about it. That muffin did it for me. I could even finish my French toast. I ordered the French toast and it was delicious! My cousins ordered chicken and waffles, the corn beef breaksfast plate and some pancakes. We had a debate about which was better pancakes waffles or French toast, of course we didn't settle it and so we took it to the ppl and let our friends on social media vote and of course French toast won! The food is OK, but my real problem with our visit today was our server. I'll keep her name out of this, but she was extremely rude and unfriendly. Of the 4 tables she had, she treated 2 well while treating our table and another terribly. She hardly said a word to us, never came by to see if we needed anything, and when she dropped off the check, I thanked her, and she literally walked away while shaking her head. What I noticed about the tables she was rude to is that we were all small parties of one or two while the parties of four received good service. When I was in college I worked in a restaurant and learned very quickly that you cannot judge a table by how many people there are or your preconceived notion that they are not going to be a good tipper. Treat everyone with kindness and respect. We certainly weren't expecting her to put on a show, but she showed no decency at all. When it came time to add a tip, I still have her a little over 20% of the $50 ticket because I know it's not an easy job. And I didn't want to contribute in any way to her idea that a small party is always going to cheat her out of a decent tip. On our way out, we decided to stop at the bar to order muffins to take home. While waiting for someone to come over to help, she walked right past us and filled a drink order. No, "be right with you" or even a look our way. Nothing. But when she had to walk past us again she looked at us and asked if we needed anything and she was very friendly. The French onion soup was good but very salty. It had TWO heels of bread in it. I'm assuming that they use the heels in the soup which are leftover from the slices of sourdough that go in the bread basket. Two heels was a bit much and they are difficult to cut with a spoon. Haven't been here in a while and wow has it gone downhill. Even in the interior didn't look nice anymore. I had the Cobb salad and it was bad. Avocado was not ripe and so hard I couldn't chew it. Terrible first experience at Mimi's. I was sat in the back right next to the bathroom despite there being every single table except maybe 3 open. I was seated at 8:05 and did not have my order taken until 8:35. After we ordered it took OVER AN HOUR just to get our food at 9:25. Not to mention the cafe was pretty much empty when we came in. Not to mention it seemed like we were not checked on during the meal but every other customer was attended to. The food was not even that great. Mostly unseasoned and nothing special with their meals. Not to mention the price! $17 for hard, dry chicken tenders and what seemed like frozen waffles. They forgot to give us our toast which was supposed to come with two of our meals but hey after waiting an hour for food we forgot ourselves too. Not to mention the hot sauce, they gave us a nearly empty hot sauce bottle that was crusted around the rim. One thing I found weird was that there was a table that got inside 15 minutes after we ordered and they somehow got their food before us? And it looked like they got a steak so unless they ordered their steak raw there's no way they got a 24 oz steak before my family got their food. The cleanliness of some of their amenities can be taken into question. My girlfriend used their bathroom to find a rusty "gold" sink and what appeared to be period blood on the door. Our waitress asked us for our drinks orders. I got a Diet Coke to drink. We were also served bread and butter. The bread was fresh and hot. It was so good with the butter. I decided to order the salmon which came with a bed of rice and veggies around the salmon. Salmon was cooked to perfection. So good! Our waitress also gave us refills without us asking for more drinks. A major plus in my book. We were also asked if we wanted more bread. I said yes, please! We picked up our catering order at the mission valley Mimi's today and it was outstanding! We placed an order for 30 people for an Easter brunch we hosted and everything was delicious, we had plenty of food and it exceeded our expectations! Everything was hot, eggs were great/not overdone, the fruit was all pineapple and strawberries (not just melon like most places would give you), muffins were freshly baked, potatoes crispy, bacon and sausage were delicious, and the coffee was hot. They included all the ketchup, butter, cups and everything else we needed, our order was ready at our pickup time and the staff was organized and friendly. This Mimi's has changed a lot. We went to the Mission Valley location because ours closed down. Blaming Covid. We were so surprised when we sat down that all of the New Orleans style decor is GONE. It's plain and not attractive at all. Plus it was freezing, a/c was at polar setting and it was a rainy day. The food was just okay, and it was brought to the table barely warm...I had soup, so that was a bummer. Mimi's was surprisingly empty at this time which is unusual,however; we got lucky enough to get the best waitress in all of California, her name I believe was Natalie.
