We had family in from out of town staying in the area. My job was to find a restaurant where our group, which included seniors, could talk and enjoy a meal. Mimi's seemed the most likely to meet our needs. Also, I had fond memories of spending time with my mother at Mimi's in Santee. There were very few patrons when we arrived. Initially I regretted the choice as we were ignored by staff upon arrival. Finally a cheerfully adorable man with a unique mustache greeted us and ushered us to a large table. I asked to be placed in a quiet area but we ended up somewhat in the center of the room at an oversized table. Since there weren't many people I didn't ask to move us to a table where we could move a table over. This was a mistake as the table didn't work for seniors, especially as the room filled along with the noise level. In general, it's a moderate to pricey restaurant. Very little is offered for those on a fixed income. Having said that, everyone was able to find something to eat. I had the French opinion soup which I enjoyed. Everyone else seemed reasonably satisfied with their meals. This experience left me feeling like Mimi's charm has disappeared as it becomes more like an old time diner. Overall, it was ok but I don't know that it will be at the top of my list in the future. read more

A group of 14 Ladies had breakfast here on Saturday, April 13th. Our server was "blond" Diego. Reserved table was ready when we arrived and Diego was prepared to accommodate us. The host, Lindsay, handled the crowd with zero professionalism--giving wildly inconsistent wait times (ranging from 45 minutes to over an hour) and visibly panicking about OpenTable continuing to accept reservations. I personally overheard her admitting that people were walking up and making same-day reservations to bypass the waitlist, while those of us who arrived honestly and early were pushed further back. Completely unacceptable. The host is supposed to be the face of the restaurant, the one who sets the mood for the guests. This was quite an unpleasant face to put it lightly. We were quoted a one-hour wait. We ended up waiting nearly two hours. Each time we checked in, we were brushed off with the same excuse: "I have multiple reservations to seat first." Lindsay even claimed some guests had reserved "months in advance," which frankly feels dishonest. On Mother's Day morning, people were clearly gaming the system on the spot through OpenTable, and the staff let it happen. The manager on duty (a blonde woman whose name we were not given) was equally disappointing. Unkempt, wearing a visibly stained shirt, she rushed between tasks with a condescending tone and no regard for the customer experience. She was hasty, dismissive, and completely unaccommodating--not remotely what you'd expect from someone in a leadership position during a peak holiday. The entire team appeared unprepared, visibly irritated, and lacking any sense of urgency or customer care. Not once did we feel welcomed, reassured, or treated with courtesy. When we finally decided to leave--after wasting two hours of our morning--they called our name as we were walking out. When we informed them that we had to go, both the manager and Lindsay snickered and said, "Alright, whatever." That moment solidified the experience as one of the worst dining encounters I've ever had. This is not a five-star restaurant that people book 'months in advance' for. It's a casual brunch spot that failed miserably at executing even the basics. The lack of professionalism, integrity, and hospitality from this establishment is astonishing. They ruined our Mother's Day breakfast, and I will never return. Avoid this place, especially on a holiday. It's not worth your time, energy, or money. read more

The meatloaf was dry and thinly sliced while my mash potatoes tasted like it came from a box. it was also salty along with the gravy. Moreover, it was very salty. I also had beans with that A portion made for a child. The plate was $18. The Salmon plate had more veggies than salmon $21. We also ordered a plate of Madelines, apple crisp, cranberry and orange juice. Our total bill was $82.00 +-. The service was very slow even if there was not a lot of people in the Resto. As for ambiance, the floors looked so dirty while the hostel desk look like it could use a new one or paint. Portions were very small for the price. Tariff or not. Taste was salty and premade. Although they lost French as type of cuisine ..I would just characterize this as American comfort food ...these places are dated and it shows as many locations now closed down ...one of the few still open in SD..went for lunch quick enough seating and service ...went with chicken pot pie ..-'d a blueberry muffin ...sides don't come with lunch entrees ...the pie itself was good enough size and taste ..muffins come out warm and tasted great...overall the value is not there and nothing to exciting about the food . read more

I don't usually do chain restaurants like Mimi's, but we came here for my niece's birthday since she prefers more standard American fare. We came on a Sunday morning which was surprisingly empty, but I assume we got there before the church crowds and everyone else had awaken. The waitress was really friendly with us and very attentive even though there were several other occupied tables in her area. My niece ordered the pancakes and they made them into a cute little face for her. She even brought out a very warm, fresh muffin just for my niece's birthday. I think I ended up eating more of it than she did. The food was pretty standard breakfast; I ordered the turkey sausage with eggs and toast, and my mom ordered a bacon avocado omelette. I always need some chili and our waitress brought out all the ones they offered so I was pleasantly surprised with that. It was a great experience overall and honestly feel I should be visiting more often because of it. read more

My sister and I ordered the BERRY SPINACH SHRIMP & QUINOA salad. Our bed of spinach had maybe 1 tablespoon of quinoa, maybe 1 spoon of feta, very small canned blueberries and few strawberry slices. We had to request additional quinoa, we received another spoonful. Our first bowl of raspberry vinaigrette had piece of old lettuces in it. Our second bowl had pieces of green onions in it. Mimi's Cafe is just one of those places that makes you feel better. I have been going here with my grandparents since I was a little kid. The corn chowder is so good and tasty. It's one of my favorite things to get here with the carrot raisin muffins. The staff is always super friendly and helpful each time I come to Mimi's. Our family had lunch here today. Parking was a breeze as there were plenty of spaces for our group. We had over a dozen in our group but we were seated right away as we did make reservations prior to arrival. The temperature inside the restaurant was a but chilly but it was welcomed by some in our group because it was a hot afternoon. As for food, while I didn't ask everyone in our party but all seemed to be enjoying their food. As for my own meal, I ordered the half roasted chicken and it was delicious! The skin was crispy on the outside while the meat was juicy throughout. I would definitely recommend it and/or even order it again in the future. This is a review about the service at Mimi's in Mission Valley, San Diego. My friends and I have had lunch at this restaurant several times before, and we have enjoyed the food. Yesterday my friend ordered the Five-Way Grilled Cheese Sandwich, which is a favorite of hers. The waitress brought her a tuna melt sandwich. When my friend pointed out the problem, the waitress argued that no, my friend had ordered the tuna melt. My friend tried to point out that she had specifically said "Five Way," but the waitress again pushed back, saying she was wrong. After the waitress pushed back THREE TIMES, my dear friend, who is a lovely, kind woman who doesn't like to make a scene, gave up and ate the tuna melt. This just breaks my heart. Are usually go to the spot for breakfast but decided to go for dinner one day and the dinner menu is pretty wide. I went with the Tuscan chicken and the flavors didn't mesh well together. Another went with the NY strip and was surprisingly decent. Kids meals are pretty average but for under $6 worth it. Muffins always a safe bet here. The French dip was good, but the corn chowder was delicious. Our sever on a Monday night as great, she had at least 6 tables (including my party of six) that I saw and she always took care of us and was on it. I will come back here again. read more

The side of fries it came with wasn't that great. Didn't taste to fresh and got soggy quickly. Some were burnt and others very light so kinda seemed like they weren't all cooked at the same time. The French onion soup was very delicious. Good flavor and the toasted bread and cheese was very delicious. The service was ok. So no complaints there.
