Did my research and decided to drop by yesterday early afternoon. It was just me and a guy for customers. I was welcomed by a guy when I walked in. He was very pleasant and polite. This place has four stations and I sat on the one by the window. There was some road work being done and the noise wasn't very conducive to a relaxing mani pedi. The jackhammer was on and off too damn noisy! The biz is really clean and modern. I would say without the jackhammer noise that this area is very quite. Street parking only with two hours max on the meters. It took the lady exactly 11/2 hour to do my pedi. Awesome leg and foot massage. The lady that worked on me was absolutely a darling. Very gentle and so sweet. She did an excellent job! I'm generous up to a fault with my five stars. To me this place is downgraded to four. Reason being: there was a woman there in charged of the money that had a loud fight with the guy that welcomed me. Seriously she was screaming! It was so unprofessional. Second reason was they did not have change to a $20 bill. I already tipped the lady and proceeded to pay for the services and the lady said just grab the tip from the lady and that should cover for my change. I was like seriously?! I'm no going to do that. It was so empty here at 4:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon which kind of scared me a bit. How come they didn't have customers??? Not even one? I don't know why the lady on the phone wanted me to make an appointment when I called at 3 pm. Did she think it was gonna get crazy in an hour? I guess you never know... At least I didn't have to wait. I was really happy with my eyebrows. My upper lip was really sore when she finished waxing. I thought maybe because my skin is really sensitive, but when I got home I saw three little cuts on my skin. When I looked closer, the cuts were actually skin that has been peeled off. The marks are small but I still have to cover them up with make-up. I would consider coming back here for a wax because: 1) It's clean, 2) it's 5 minutes away from my place, and 3) Ivan's nice. Usually I don't like writing reviews for places that don't have a lot of reviews because I fear that they'll become too busy for me to easily book my appointments. However, this one's an exception - this place needs to stay in business, I love it! I was able to book a same-day appointment for two mani-pedis (this is nearly impossible for those well-known places like QT nails on El Camino), and the place wasn't busy at all, with me and my cousin being their only two customers. The place itself is located in one of the less frequented areas of downtown and therefore parking was a breeze. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the nail technician (I think she was the owner) who quickly went to work with us. We started off with the pedicure and she did a very thorough job. After evaluating that my skin was a little bit different, she decided not to soak my feet for too long. She knows her stuff!! The pedicure itself was good too, she took her time and was careful and detail-oriented. The manicure also pretty much went through the procedure. Overall I am a very happy customer. Remarkable service at such an affordable price. $20 for a mani-pedi that included: -salt-water soak -OPI nail polish - and good service that DID NOT include chatty Vietnamese women talking about you behind your back. I came across the usual place that I went to previously, which was Lisa's, and a few other places... But I saw Mind and Beauty had really good reviews and also saw that this place gave pedicures and manicures with the concluding, amazing, cheap price of only $20! It's kind of in a random place for being such a great place to go to, but I walked in and my first impression was how nice the salon and nail place looked. There were only 2 women working & I called in prior to make sure my friend and I didn't have to wait too long in case others beat us to it (especially because they're so good). The workers were so kind and patient. I was definitely able to feel relaxed and pampered. They were patient, took their time, gentle, and meticulous about their work -- toes to finger nails from cleaning to massaging to painting your nails. You can really tell that they care about their costumers and I know that I will be coming back often to get my nails done again. I went into Mind & Beauty a few weeks ago. I called on a Saturday morning and was able to make an appointment for 12pm that day. A $20 mani/pedi and same-day appointments on a Saturday? I thought I might have just died and went to heaven. But alas, my Mind & Beauty experience was anything but heavenly. The salon itself looks like a house converted to a salon--nothing fancy, just your basics. Their nail polish selection left much to be desired, especially as someone who only sports OPI and Essie lacquer. But the kicker to all this was that the lady who was doing my pedicure cut my cuticles so deep, I started bleeding! Not just a few droplets but soak-a-kleenex-bleeding! The lady was super apologetic and I knew it was an accident so I didn't want to make her feel bad but... my toe was sore for days afterward. Regardless of the limited polish selection and lack-luster decor, I really wanted to love this place for the nice employees and amazingly cheap price. Oh well... Today was the first time I went to this salon and I enjoyed it. I live in San Jose but have been driving to Mountain View near an old job to get my nails done and didnt want to go that far any more so I looked on Yelp and found this place which was really close to my house. My nails turned out nicely and the women who helped me was really nice. She really wanted to make sure that I liked everything that was being done to my nails. My grandmother went to get her hair cut short, because she doesn't like to keep it long anymore. She went on a weekend when only one hair stylist was working. The lady who cut my grandmother's hair did a terrible and horrible job. I was shocked and upset when my grandmother came home and a bunch of hairs were longer, some were shorter. It was a mess. I went to demand that she get her money back, but the stylist refused. Then I asked if my grandmother could get her next cut free. That didn't fly either. I gave this two stars instead of one, because my grandmother does tend to shake her head, and it's hard for her to keep it still. However, she can keep still and the stylist should just be patient. The manicures and pedicures are always well done, and I especially like that they do the mani while you're in the pedi chair... saves so much time, and really makes you feel pampered. I met Yvonne who game me a card and her number and told me it would be $20. I came back a couple hours later and picked out a peachy pink color for my nails. A guy did my toes while Yvonne did my fingers they were both extremely gentle and the guy gave me the best leg massage! Yvonne even went back after and made sure my toenails were even and lined up. For the price it was definatly worth it except I paid $5 for a flower design but it was something I probably could have done myself. My nails were badly butchered. You see my coach was not happy seeing the scratches on my legs because of my long nails. I said I would not cut my nails until Junior Olympics were over. So on to getting on Yelp and deciding I should get a mani. I assumed a mani would be less than $10 if a mani-pedi was about $20. Boy, I regret it. My nails were cut too short, nails were not shaped right and they failed to remove the cuticles. My nails suffered and I didn't even get any of them to grow in 2 weeks! 2 weeks is when my nails are long to the point where I am banned from playing Sharks and Minnows due to an incident involving one of the swimmers on my team! Thankfully this was a one time thing and I'll never be going back. Not that many OPI colors, but I'm cool with that because I can always remove them and then have my "mini nail salon" (mind you about 4 OPI colors and the OPI base and top coats, but I am a sucker at shaping and cutting nails) I cried. I went in for a mani pedi in the early afternoon, luckily I didn't have to wait. Lily did my nails. I picked a color out of the small selection of OPI. The chairs are not message chairs and the foot bath has not jets like I am used to. Lily started with the pedicure, and when she started cutting my cuticles is when I started to freak out in my head. While she was cutting them with the cuticle clipper, she sometimes pulled the cuticle! I have never experienced any kind of discomfort or pain during a pedicure. It is supposed to be a pleasurable experience, but I found myself terrified! Throughout the entire service I constantly worried about how much more she would hurt me. My nails were not filed straight and overall the job was not to a professional level. This is not at all the relaxing experience I expect when getting my nails done. WOW! So I came to this salon today because of the reviews! I made an appointment (there were 2 of us) and they were all ready for us. The mani/pedi for $20 ROCKS! The women actually care about their work. It was clean, small, and quiet. I like smaller places because it isn't a zoo and it is too loud for me. The women were professional and polite. The daughter that works there is a total sweetheart. For the price, I could not ask for more. My friend and I were both very pleased with their work and the time it took. I am normally very satisfied when I come here for a mani/pedi combo but today was different. Granted I told the ladies that I need to be done in one hour, but I was the only customer so I thought one would do the mani and the other would do the pedi. That did not happen, one lady started my pedi while the other talked on the phone. As she was moving on to the foot massage, I told her that she could take her time because I decided not to do the mani after all. She massaged one foot for maybe one minute and the other for about 20 seconds. The first time I visited, I got a pedicure. I was due five dollars in change and the person who gave me the pedicure kept the five dollars assuming that the change was all for her. It was a little rude and presumptuous and about a 30% tip. Yesterday I called to see what the cost was for a little girl's haircut. She has short hair. I was quoted $10 on the phone, arrived and saw the sign said eight dollars. She looked at my little girl increased it to 15.
