Great casual atmosphere, so much bigger than it appears and great live music the night we were there! Wood grilled shellfish skewers, oyster chowder and oysters pesto, all great choices! Grilled food perfect balance to the buttery chowder. The bar tender was our server and he handled both efficiently and with a good sense of humor. Would def recommend. Oysters, yes. Service, no. The restaurant felt empty and depressing, service was not really present. Had to walk around and ask for plates, walk around and find someone to seat us. It's a lonely restaurant and I'm not sure why, but they had the saddest music playing on the radio. I felt like crying in my oysters. read more

This is one of my fav's in Maine so far. It's a little hard to figure out on your first visit you have to go threw the downstairs bar up one staircase to get to the restaurant but once you find it the food is fantastic! It's a very big spread out place with a small deck on one side and another bigger one in back. I've had several different items and they have all been great the chef makes homemade chips that are fantastic. My only disappointment was that they seem to be out of the littleneck clams often, may need a new supplier! read more

The wood fired lobsters came out cold. The 4th person ordered a burger which literally never arrived. After 20 minutes of everyone being done eating their seafood we told them to keep the burger, paid the bill and left. I don't really understand why so many people have given this four and five stars.. It was good, but far from great. I will say that the seaweed salad was above average, nice and spicy. The lobster roll was beautiful, but the other food we ordered was just all right. I had an oyster sampler; our server was new, but made an effort to find out about the various oysters available, and to describe them to me. Still, it would have been nice if someone knowledgeable had come to the table, and the sampler itself was disappointing. Be forewarned if you sit outside for the view - there is a high fence, probably because of codes, but unless you're well over six feet you don't really get a view. If we ever go back, I'm going to try the sushi, which is probably a better bet. A nice place to stop in town if you're in the area, though I wouldn't go out of my way to visit just for this restaurant. read more

I started with the Glidden Point oysters (medium size, not the jumbo's). These were my first Maine oysters, and they were very good, meaty and somewhat sweet. I also had the lobster roll served warm with a bit of butter. It was fabulous and the fries were very good, noteworthy I think. My wife had the grilled swordfish. It was very fresh and served over a bed of green beans and fingerling potatoes. She liked it a lot. Lastly, our server was very pleasant, had a wonderful smile, and checked back with us repeatedly. Frankly, I cant find anything negative to say about our experience. On the contrary, it was quite enjoyable. read more

We have been coming here since it opened a few years ago. While my family enjoys the oysters, we have come to the agreement that this year the service is absolutely terrible. Long waits, forgotten drink orders. Was told there was live music tonight...lasted about 15-20 mins and wasn't anything spectacular. We felt more of a bother than welcome. It is 10:20 and feeling like we can't hang here and drink at the bar. Used to be cool for dinner and hang for drinks and dancing for a good part of the night but now it's empty and boring with really bad dinner service. read more

House nachos; you would think to be the most simple item to make on the menu. Start with chips, add cheese, fresh pico, cilantro, bright green with freshness. Ta Da! Nachos! The pico was clearly not fresh, the cilantro was brown. We've all been there. I made fresh pico and didn't eat it all. You clean out your fridge about a week later; and see brown, old pico. The chips were brown, burnt to foil, all saturated in oil. Next, roasted fresh sweet beets, portobello mushrooms, goat cheese quesadilla; a vegetarian dream. Here is what I got. There was a beet paste, old cold mushrooms, raw wilted kale; wilted by heat of quesadilla. My husband ordered salmon which was over cooked, yet oily. I'm not sure what happened but it was tasteless. Stay away! Try Boathouse Bistro; homemade tapas; lobster risotto; perfectly cooked; delicious. Last, the restaurant manger was defensive, clueless as he told me he never reads yelp or reviews but he took the food off our bill. The server was super sweet. read more

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE LOBSTER PEOPLE!!! There is no need to get ripped off at those other seaside joints that serve you everything on a cardboard tray and charge ridiculously high prices for mediocre seafood. This little gem of a place is amazing. It's tucked away in a corner and has a very cozy and laid back atmosphere. There is seating on the first and second floor. The food is the best we had while in town. After eating at all those other places we couldn't understand what all the hype was about. THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO FOR THE BEST OYSTERS, CLAMS AND LOBSTER!!! And when they say "market price" they mean "market price". It's not hiked up three four times the retail price as it is at the other places. The service is top notch. You food is served on actual plates by very helpful and knowledgeable servers. Great selection of local and regional fresh tasting raw oysters. We had dinner here our last night in Boothbay Harbor and it was the saving grace for us!!! The majority of the food was overcooked. For a highly priced place it's disappointing when you can go home and cook a better meal. The seafood dinner for two should be avoided. The portion is small. I ordered a lobster roll and substituted a salad for fries. The salad had slimey tomatoes and peppers. I was given another and that one had fur in it. The manager only took off $3.00 from the check. I know issues can arise in a restaurant, however if that were my business I would not have charged for the entire meal. Or at least given the drinks free of charge. Average service, half our food was raw (scallops for example) while other food was way over cooked (kids chicken for example). We were seated literally in a doorway. We had much better service here in the past. Judging by how empty the restaurant was at dinner it seems others agree it's gone way downhill. We spent several days in Boothbay Harbor and truly enjoyed ourselves. We explored the many dining experiences the area had to offer and we kept going back to Mine Oyster. They received a 5 star because they had a great variety of choices, the OYSTERS are the best! The service is "right on" and pays attention to your needs. The view is exceptional, and the inside is warm and welcoming if you are in the room with the logs, The location is convenient. The bottom line is this establishment has it all, great food, great service, great location and great prices. read more

Slow night for them, and we were a bit disappointed. Very large space, but we were the only diners - other than a few folks at the bar, who kept walking out to the deck to smoke, letting the cold air in. I tried their steamed oysters with old bay appetizer as an entree, and it was delicious - so I decided to also try their ten steamed little neck clams appetizer, but they only had six left - which turned out to be fine, as it was less than spectacular. read more

My wife and I plus our granddaughter and her husband went to dinner at Mine Oyster on a busy Saturday night. We got seated after moving around to avoid the musicians that play there. Not a big deal. Two of us shared 6 select oysters which were very good if not overpriced at $3 a piece. My wife and I ordered a "duet" fried seafood dinner. Her's had haddock and lobster and mine was Maine oysters and lobster. There was supposed to be 8 ounces of each variety. There might have been 8 ounces of haddock and oysters but no way was there 8 ounces of lobster. In fact our plates looked so empty they brought one piece of fried lobster for each of us in a separate small bowl. The fried lobster was very good and the other fried food was better than average but bottom line not worth $27. Our granddaughter had a piece of hanger steak and asked for it medium rare, when it came it was medium well and cold. After she refused to wait for another one to be cooked, they did remove that dinner from our bill. Her husband got a seafood pot (at $45) was was good. It was our first time at this restaurant and it will be our last. The waitress was reasonably attentive and she did have the steak dinner removed from our bill. I don't mind waiting for decent food that is reasonably priced but there was nothing reasonable about the prices and quantity of food on this evening. read more
