Called in last week for an oil change. They told me the earliest appointment was a week out. Well I inquired into prices and service and was happy with what they offered so I agreed. Made my appointment and waited a week. Came in on Monday at the scheduled appointment time(8AM when the business opens). It took about an hour and a half before someone took my car in despite me bringing my car in at the exact time specified(not to mention they were late coming in to open the business in the first place). The price charged was also higher than the price originally quoted. For the same price I could've had this service done at another place who would've taken my car in the same week and probably adhered to their set appointment time. Not giving a lower rating because the business owner does seem like a nice person and looks like he knows what he's talking about. If you come here, make sure you agree on a price beforehand and expect a waiting time even if you have an appointment. read more

Thank you Ming Auto and Wayne for your help! I had a "low battery" message come up on a day that I had many errands to complete. I was not comfortable driving my car without fearing that it might just not start up. Wayne gave me options and I decided to have the battery replaced. So, he ordered and replaced the battery with a stronger one by that afternoon. He happened to have an older loaner car (which I enjoyed driving) and offered it to me so I could complete my errands and get my food products home and he took into consideration that I needed to return the loaner car and me back home before the rush hour traffic on 15. If you own a Volvo, you know it comes with a price. But, it is well worth it to have better parts, service and someone who cares and tries to accommodate his customers, when possible, as Wayne at Ming Auto does. read more

I have a 2006 s40 that just needed some TLC and had a couple recommendations from my Midas guy I have been going to for years. Ming replaced my CV boots for cheaper than my Midas guy originally quoted me. I also had just recently got in a little fender bender and my headlight was shattered and dented and Ming told me where I could buy another headlight unit and he replaced it for me. The whole staff was very friendly and knowledgable and took the time to teach me a few things. I highly recommend Ming! I've always taken my 2013 Volvo S60 to a big Volvo dealership in San Diego to get serviced - and paid a premium to know that my car was well taken care of. It's hard to find an auto shop that is experienced working on Volvos, and I would pay for the peace of mind knowing my car was in good hands. Even then, they would always contact me about needing something extra done to the car - adding to the bill. Recently, the dealer quoted me over $700 for my recent 80,000-mile service. After overpaying so many times, I looked for other alternatives. Ming Volvo Specialists was a further drive for me being in south San Diego, but they had excellent reviews and I decided to call them up. Lily, Ming's wife (if I recall correctly), answered the phone and after telling her my situation quoted me considerably less. She was so nice - we actually ended up chatting about stuff unrelated to the car afterward. Wayne, the service manager, was great. He went over the work with me, was finished quicker than expected, and was very accomodating about picking up the car after the service was performed. He also didn't try to recommend any work that didn't need to be performed like dealers often do. Thank you Lily and Wayne! I'll be bringing my Volvo back. It's also nice knowing you're supporting a small family business with good people. **TLDR: Call Ming Volvo Specialists before you take your car to the dealer and overpay! We have trusted Ming and company with all of our Volvo's for almost two decades and they have always taken great care of us and our cars. Most recently, we had a weird grinding noise coming from the engine compartment and were told by an out-of-state provider that our entire front suspension needed to replaced. 2007 C70 Repair Purchased a used Volvo, our second Volvo. It stopped running and left my wife stranded. It was towed to Ming off a recommendation of a friend. They diagnosed it quickly, made a expensive repair at a very fair price. I asked them to look over the car. They provided a list of must be done soon & can waits. We had the pads and rotors changed while it was there. Again at a very reasonable price. Brought the car home and when I looked under the hood it was clean, parts I noticed that were loose were tightened. 100% satisfied. Ming's Volvo is the BEST auto repair shop I have ever encountered. Our family have been using their service since 2003. The most amazing service we got from Ming's Volvo was a free phone call to solve the alarming system problem of my Toyota 4Runner 2000, which made loud noise when I replaced a new battery into the car. The dealer of Toyota Irvine told me that I need to update a computer chip to stop the noice with approximately $1000. However, Ming's Volvo taught me a simple way to fix it. Before connecting the power cable to the new battery, I need to insert the car key into the door locker, when I connected the power cable to the battery, I can immediately turn the car key to open the door, and the alarming noice was stopped. Ming's Volvo won my trust on their excellence of service, and I recommended their service to my son, who got his transmission of Lexus GS 300 replaced with fair cost 5 years ago and it runs excellent. read more

If I knew they were too busy to look at my car three weeks ago I would have looked for someone who was available. I would drive my car in limp mode all the way here just for their knowledgeable and spectacular service. They really know what they're doing. Volvo's are not easy cars to work on, so you have to be careful who you trust with your car. That being said, I trust Mings Volvo to do quality work and let me know exactly what is going on. You don't even have to worry about the parts being of good quality, because they only use Volvo parts. This is the only shop I take my cars to (850 and 850 Turbo) when it can't be done at home. Really consider this place for those tricky car repairs or maintenance things, such as the timing belt. You won't be disappointed. read more

What is it about auto repair that they cannot run their business honestly? My A/C on my XC70 was cutting out, so I took it in. He said they had to re-charge it, and that it would cost $98. Go for it, I said. When they were done "re-charging" it, he handed me a bill for $260. WTF? Ah, you see, $98 in labor and $150 in freon. Don't you think that is a detail he could have shared with me BEFORE he did the work? I would never have agreed. After $260, the A/C still didn't work. He said that my compressor was shot and a new one cost $1500!!! But, 'cuz he's such a good guy, he'd credit me the $260. Since then I have discovered it was all BS. You never recharge a system without checking for leaks first. The freon Volvo uses is dyed. With a black light you can see if it is leaking. When a second shop checked for leaks, they found none. So why did I need $150 in freon? Also, I discovered that a new compressor can be had for $350, not $1500, and takes about an hour to install. FOUR bolts hold it in place, and you have to disconnect TWO hoses. Out comes the old, in comes the new. $1500!!! Not even the dealer charges that. Finally, it turned out that there was nothing wrong with the compressor. All it needed was to have the clutch re-shimmed. About a one hour job for which I paid $125 -- TOTAL. They didn't even need to touch the freon. A/C runs cold now. Ming (I assume that is who I was talking to) is a fabulous... salesman, not to use a harsher word. He is the opposite of hard sell. He feels your pain, suggests your car might be too old to justify the repair, is so sorry that Volvos are so expensive to maintain. Perhaps you don't need A/C in Escondido, perhaps its time to let the old girl go, perhaps you could bicycle to work. You find yourself pushing him to do the unnecessary repair he claims your car needs. He must chuckle to himself how easy we are to manipulate. I suspect it is this well hewn reverse psychology thing he does that has led to such positive reviews. I bet if more people had the time or energy to double check what he claims is needed the reviews would be a lot less glowing. read more

I brought my 2005 XC-90 here on a referral from the Napa guy in Scripps Ranch for a check up because of a suspected oil leak. Within a few minutes they had it up on the lift and troubleshot the issue down to a leaking PCV housing and gave me an estimate. I brought it back a couple weeks later and had the housing replaced as well as a 120K mile service. Everything was done within the time estimated to repair and at the estimated price. They gave me a 20% discount on the total price and the work is warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles. I would recommend Ming's and I will bring my car back here for service. Went in for the first time as I have just recently purchased a used Volvo. I went to Ming's because of the great reviews, the friendliness I experienced on the phone, and my car, with its previous owner, was regularly serviced there for the last 10 years. I went in to replace the headlights with an after market brand and replace a front headlight washer cap. One headlight did not fit properly so I decided to (after both had been installed ) to send both of them back and try a restoration kit instead (which they also do there, but I did on my own and they came out great. 3m Kit). The other piece they could not replace, I needed something more that was thought to be had by the Volvo parts dept., but turned out it was the wrong part and the other was not available. Wayne made sure that I got a safety inspection as I am driving to Alaska. They went above and beyond helping me out, giving me information on what to fix with my car, giving me information on the history ( I had the previous owners permission- privacy is respected here) and all this they ended up doing for free as nothing technically got done, but they certainly did a lot of work. I wanted to pay for their time. The takeaway- I wish this shop was going to be where I live in Alaska. I trust these guys and felt very well taken care of. Highly recommend! read more

Great place if you have a Volvo I have brought two Volvos here for all service (my past 240 wagon and current XC90). I am not sure what the "bad reviewer" of this place is talking about in terms of AC fix. We have had our AC charged here and it really beefed up the cooling power (Volvo's don't blow that cool anyways as compared to, say, a Toyota). Wayne and Ming have always been honest with me with all dealings. They are more affordable than the dealer and have a quick turnaround on repairs. Definitely recommend them. read more

The mexican workers are humble and care about the customers while top notch ming or whatever his name was is the opposite. I needed help with getting my key out of my ignition and right away he wanted to charge me up the ass for a part. However, his workers helped me get it out with no charge while he was yelling at them. Once they got it out he said"get the car out of here". I recommend not coming here. read more
