I love a dimsum morning but I'm also super used to dimsum places in the states with 3/3.5 average rating. So I was surprised to see multiple minghin locations with 4/5. Came in on a weekday morning, so it was super empty. The place itself is also huge so would take a bit to fill I imagine. It's also a bit more modern which I liked. You order via menu sheet or iPad if you want to order kitchen items. We stuck to dimsum, so just the menu sheet. Yummy things we had, the tofu skin roll with pork, soup dumplings, and the chicken feet. All had good flavor. Nothing outstanding, but solid dishes. Okay things we had, the vegetable rice roll, egg yolk lava buns, and turnip cake. The rice roll doesn't come cut, and the inside texture is really gooey and unappetizing. Undercooked maybe? Same with the turnip cake. The buns were good, but the filling to bun ratio was a little sad. Service overall was really good. It was pretty empty the whole time, so it was easy to get servers' attention and food came out pretty quickly. Overall, an average dimsum experience. Came here for dinner when my husband and I were in Chinatown and looking for a place that still serves dim sum at night. Although this place seemed pretty busy, we managed to get a table near the front section of the restaurant right away. We ordered off shrimp dumplings, shrimp crepes, XLB (pork soup dumplings), stuffed sticky rice in lotus leaves, pork with preserved egg congee, scallion pancakes, and baked creamy egg yolk buns off the dim sum menu, along with orange beef. Overall, the dim sum was good; the dumplings and egg yolk buns tasted the best. The rice in the sticky rice tasted more mushy than sticky. The scallion pancakes were more like scallion bread/buns than the traditional scallion pancakes we were expecting, but it was good bread. We were looking forward to the orange beef, but the dish here was disappointing. It was decent flavorwise, but every piece was soft and not crispy. I ended up just eating mainly the broccoli that was part of this dish. Service was quick and efficient. Although the dim sum here isn't the best we've had, it's a good spot for dim sum at any time of the day. read more

MingHin likely gets its good reviews from prompt and courteous service, which isn't always prevalent in Chinese restaurants. That's where the allure stops for me. The restaurant location in Chinatown is large with ample seating. Ordering is done primarily via paper menus for dim sum where you can mark how many servings for each item and via iPad for selection of an extensive list of non-dim sum dishes. Dim sum is available all day, even late night. We had just suffered a disappointing experience at a nearby rotary sushi joint, so were looking for some comforting fare. We ordered off the dim sum menu as well as the dinner menu. Potstickers: These were a soggy, oily mess. There was no crisp on the outside despite some browning, the filling was mushy without significant flavor, and the skin was falling apart at the slight prod of chopsticks. Would not recommend. Honey barbecue short ribs: These were beyond chewy, to the point where I couldn't even rip off the meat. They were also dry and had one dimensional sweet flavor without any hint of honey. They would've been helped substantially by some pepper or garlic. Custard "lava" buns: This dish made me quite upset, as I specifically asked our waiter if the "lava" custard on the inside was the liquid kind or just custard, and he reassured me it would be very liquidy. There are also two variations of this lava custard bun, one steamed and one baked, and when I inquired which one was more liquidy lava custard, he said they were the same. I opted for the steamed one based on these repeated reassurances. As you can see in the photo, the filling was not liquidy or "lava" at all. To add insult to injury, the filling itself was lumpy and without significant salted duck yolk flavor. The outer skin was also soggy and mealy rather than fluffy. An absolute failure of a dish. Pork with preserved egg congee: This was the only passable dish of the night, with good pork bone broth flavor and generous chunks of preserved eggs. The congee was sticky and thick as it should be, with the rice kernels boiled until they were half falling apart. I could have done without the stale crisps on top, but otherwise I gobbled this dish down. Healthy mixed vegetable stirfry: The vegetables in this dish were cut in a multitude of different sizes and shapes, which lent an unsightly appearance to the dish and made it hard to eat. The ginkgo nuts were fine, and the mushrooms weren't bad. The mountain yams were overcooked and mushy instead of crispy. The sliced celery had spots of black on them. Having been away from the Bay Area for many years, my standards for dim sum have dropped considerably. Even so, I cannot recommend MingHin even slightly as their food and recommendations sorely miss the mark. read more

A great place for dim sum in the main plaza of Chicago's Chinatown!! I had seen this restaurant recommended by many lists, so we decided to stop by while in the area! It was bustling and crowded on the ground level, but luckily they were able to seat us upstairs at a big, spacious table. Service was very friendly and attentive and they also chatted with me about my camera I had brought for photos/vlogging! The various dumplings, noodles, and other items we ordered all came out in quick succession. -Pan Fried Vegetable & Pork Buns -Pork Shu Mai -Shrimp Crepes -Beef Chow Mein Everything we ordered was deliciously and beautifully presented! Please Note: The regular entrees and most of the standard dishes here will feed 3 hungry people - per dish. They pile it on! The process of viewing the menu and ordering the food is a different story. Annoying! Pass a tablet around the table and add your dishes to the cart? One tablet for the 8 people at our table to share. It would make more sense to put a single QR code on the table and we all make our separate orders (under each name) on our own phones. It took 40 minutes just to place the order - then the waiter confirms it. Chances are they have what you like, but you have to navigate through the tablet menu to find it... while we are all waiting for you to hurry up. Oh, and some items are not listed on the tablet menu. Tech for tech, the QR Code parking validation made up for the tablet irritation, but that really needs to change. All in all, this place is valuable. It is one of those reliable restaurants where you call everybody and say let's meet for lunch or dinner in Chinatown... and we all know you mean MingHin, even without the name being mentioned. I went to this place with my friends and was seated underneath the AC. We asked to move to a different spot and was denied seating away from the AC although there were many open seats available. Our waiter was SO RUDE. They didn't serve us water but served all of the other tables being helped out with water. They walked around asking others if they needed anything, but completely avoided coming to the table to ask us the same. The other waiters were more helpful than the other waiter that was assigned to us. Overall, the food was honestly a 4/10. I do not recommend this place, unless you were strangled and had nowhere to go eat. Otherwise save your money and go eat somewhere else. read more

My first time in Chicago Chinatown!! I liked it. I came with my boyfriend and his family, this is one of their go-to spots. Food came out quickly and all at once. Only major issue was with the skin for everything (dumplings and chang fen, to be exact). It's really thick and gummy, not delicate at all. The chang fen sauce was also not the best, it had too much dark soy sauce/was too salty in my opinion. Didn't offer much of a nuanced taste (e.g a seafood-esque undertone with the oyster sauce and sweetness from the sugar was lacking). The filling for all different variants of shao mai was great, super loaded up with shrimp- my favorite was the traditional, but you can never go wrong with chives. It was my boyfriend's first time trying the nuo mi ji, he liked the egg yolk inside it and they definitely load up on mushrooms and meat on the inside of these! Even when I was a picky kid who tried to disavow my own heritage, I would always get nuo mi ji at dim sum. Ming Hin's does not disappoint. We had mango pudding for dessert, it was okay but my boyfriend's gripe was that it didn't offer the tangy flavor profile that authentic mango has. I made reservations for 3 on a Saturday. We parked in parking lot & walked to the restaurant. It is pay to park. After we checked in, we waited a short while before being seated at our booth. We needed some time to look at the robust menu which by the way was the Dim Sum menu, you may also order items on their iPad. We had hot tea and water while we deliberated. I'm visiting from LA so I'm pretty picky about my dim sum. I like that Minghin has reservations so you don't have to wait if they are busy. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and the wait staff was very attentive which is not always a given at Chinese restaurants. It was my first time at this restaurant so the staff were very nice in explaining the process. Once we ordered the food came out fresh and quick. We ordered so much food we had plenty of leftovers. I've been on a serious egg roll kick lately, and I'll say this upfront: MingHin has some of the best egg rolls in the city. That's the only reason I kept giving this place another shot. The soups (egg drop and wonton) are flavorless and awful. Their sugar+meat dishes (General Tso, Sesame, Orange) are very mid. Their soup dumplings are trash, stick to the tin, are never served with the vinegary dip. You always have to ask. But the egg rolls and shumai are great. So I go for a late night snack sometimes. Two weeks ago I walked in for dinner and immediately noticed that Fox News was playing on every TV in the restaurant. As they were seating me, I told the staff I'd need to leave if it stayed on. To their credit, they changed the channel. People online assured me this wasn't another Tank Noodle situation, so the next night I went back again. (Again: egg roll kick.) Tonight I came back for a third visit, and once again Fox News was on every single TV in the dining room. I asked if they could switch it to something else. This time they refused, so I left. Politics aside, Fox News has spent years portraying Chicago as a war zone and pushing nonstop negative coverage about the city. It's honestly jarring to sit down to dinner in Chicago while watching a channel that constantly trashes it. I simply can't enjoy a meal while that's playing overhead and I'm not supporting any business that's doing this willfully or so clueless to how offensive this is in 2026 in a city that's been tortured because of this network's propaganda. I recently visited on a work trip and between five people we ordered literally almost everything on the menu. The food kept coming and it was amazing. The food was good. It was not bad and each dish did have a different flavor. What I mean by that is that sometimes Kung pow chicken and orange chicken has a similar sauce and that was not the case here so you will get what you order. The dumplings were good, but I was hoping they would be on a spoon like a traditional dumpling instead of a foil tin. But I understand that they mass produce and it's an easy way to get them to a very packed restaurant. The ambience is nice because it's in Chinatown, but the bathrooms were so gross to me. There is water all over the floor and I didn't know what it was and with the bathrooms being not clean it just makes me think is the kitchen clean. This is coming from a germophobic person after my bathroom experience. I didn't know how I felt about the restaurant but with a group of five people everyone had a good time and ate, and there were no complaints. Okay, let's start off by saying I had no clue Chicago had it's own China town. Made a 45 minute drive just to try their dim sum, noodles, shrimp shumi, soup dumplings, and OMG, they did not disappoint. Everything we ordered was flavorful. Service was extremely quick. I had another satisfying dinner with my friend last night after visiting another friend in the hospital not too far away. This is the first time I have come back to Chinatown in a couple of years. I had my usual beef chow fun for the sole reason that I love the dish. It's comfort food for me, and it did not disappoint. MingHin did not skimp on the beef, and it was flavorful and tasty. My friend ordered a red bean paste turnover and pan-fried turnip with XO Sauce, which he loved. I am glad to see many non-Asian patrons during my visit. They all seem to be enjoying the delicious food the restaurant offers. The service was superb as our wait staff was nearby at all times and eyeing for any sign that we needed assistance. In addition to a parking lot (discount with validation from participating businesses), there are plenty of metered parking in the area. I will return whenever I can. read more

It was a good experience over all. We were sat immediately at around 530 (party of 7). They were quick to bring menus and drinks. I grew up in NYC Chinatown, so dimsum is not new for me. I brought my family to have the experience. The wait staff was very good. Easy to flag down and checked often. The place was well kept. The food came out fairly quickly. The price was a bit pricey compared to where we came from.. and quality was not necessarily matching the price tag, but they were not bad. We do not recommend the honey spare ribs.. they were not great. I would likely want to try a different dim sum place, nothing striking here to pull me back... but wouldnt discourage anyone from checking it out! read more

The pork had crisp skin and tender meat but a bit salty, while the duck was flavorful and juicy. The siu mai was decent and well-portioned. The shrimp roll had a nice crunch and wasn't overly greasy. I liked the texture of the rice crepe with Chinese donut, especially with the dipping sauce. The short ribs with honey sauce were sweet, tender, and nicely glazed. For Chicago, this is an acceptable and reliable place for dim sum. That said, it doesn't compare to what you'll find in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or especially the San Gabriel Valley. The variety, refinement, and boldness of flavors in those areas are on another level. Still, for being in the Midwest, MingHin does a good job offering approachable and consistent dim sum. But he served us dumplings that were listed as chicken only, but they had shrimp in them. When we raised the issue, he tried to argue that they weren't there, but they were obviously visible. We eat dim sum here a couple of times a year and it's decent. Buns and dumplings are always good, as are pancakes and ribs, my wife loves the chicken feet, I like the sesame chicken. The space is huge but comfortable, we prefer eating upstairs.
