The service was quick but the servers did not seem to be friendly, except for maybe one person. They seemed annoyed if we asked for more chili oil etc. the food was ok, a bit plain. Considering we got like 10 dishes, I just felt it was alright for 3 people and not as fulfilling. Aside from the food, if servers were more friendly and welcoming I think we would have rated this review better. Probably won't suggest this place to many people. This place gets pretty busy on the weekend and we didn't have a reservation, so waited about 30 minutes to get sat. They have smoothies and cocktails at the bar which you can order while you wait. They give each table a pot of complimentary hot green tea, which was nice since it was a little chilly outside. We ordered a handful of dishes, some good some eh. The bbq pork buns came out great, pork nice and tender and bread super soft. The pork and peanut dumplings delish. But the pourage, though popular, I thought was a little bland. Love coming here for dim sum when I'm in Chicago! I went on a Saturday evening after watching a show and it was not busy. We sat by the glass windows and it had a great view of the buildings nearby. You will get a couple of iPads rather than a menu to place your order and when you're ready, your server will submit the order. We ordered quite a bit of dim sum for 2 people and almost finished it all! They do have other options of Chinese food like sesame chicken, fried rice, etc but we came for the dim sum! Some of the things that were ordered was the siu mai, shrimp crepe, stuffed bean curd, and short rib. Everything was flavorful and filling! To top it off, we ordered the salt and pepper lobster on the live seafood menu and it was so good! They fried the lobster with a light batter and the lobster was still moist and tender. The service may be a little slow if you're in a rush, but i like that the servers don't come to your table frequently except for the one who refills your drinks. We were downtown and wanted to get a bite of food. Parking was already paid for so opted for Chinese. I have been wanting to try this establishment. I always see trusted Yelp elites going to eat at this location and so I had it saved in my phone for a while. On this night we did not have a reservation and arrived proximally about 7:30 PM on a Friday evening. We were promptly set at a table when the main lobby. I will say that I really enjoy the food, the price is, and the ambiance. On this evening the restaurant probably was 40% full. They just extended their hours to 10 PM and so maybe that's why it wasn't that packed. This restaurant is located in the same building as Mariano's on the fourth level. There is parking attached to the Mariano's however I'm not sure if the restaurant will give you validation. We started out with a cocktail, I got the Mai Tai which was good and my husband got the Long Island iced tea. Overall those were ok they weren't poured very heavy which can sometimes be disappointing when you like a stiff drink on a Friday night. For appetizers we got the barbecue bun and the crab rangoons. I enjoyed both of those my husband was not wild by the barbecue buns. For our main meal selection I ordered the garlic beef which was served with plenty of onions red and green peppers and some type of black bean sauce. I enjoyed this dish however I thought it was very heavy on the vegetables and that probably need a little bit more beef sirloin. Ultimately my husband got his go to Chinese dish, which is orange chicken. I got to try some of the orange chicken and it was flavored very well and featured a lot of white breast meat. Overall this dish was very yummy and the sauce was not heavy. We enjoyed our experience at this fine establishment and will return in the near future. I like this little section of the loop. I think the neighborhood is called Lake Shore East which is super cute. Only reason I gave this a 4 out of 5 stars is because ordering was a little wonky. They have these apple tablets at all tables however you can only look at the menu and select things but ultimately a server has to finalize your order. I felt like the service at this restaurant while fast was a little lacking. For instance, we tried to order crab rangoons but the ipad was gone. We flagged down one server and asked. Item didn't come. Found another server and he put our order in. First server either didn't understand or didn't put in our order. So seemed to be a slight language barrier but the food is really good and I don't think that should distract you from checking this location out. We decided to go here on our first day at Chicago because we were craving some dim sum after not eating all day. We were welcomed right away, which was nice. They just left the iPad there and expected us to know what to do, and never gave us any water until middle of our meal. The crispy pork, shrimp dumpling, and siumai was really good. The calamari was horrible. The calamari was hard, chewy and mostly batter. The short ribs were okay. Our least favorite was the chicken and corn cakes, it was so bad. The chowmein was alright. Ugh, I love MingHin in Chinatown and would regularly go there. But this MingHin location was not it. Each dimsum were around 7.00 which is ridiculous. They up charge you slightly here, too. Honestly, the dim sum in their Chinatown location is much fresher and tastes better. Just go there for the dimsum. Would not recommend the Lakeshore East location. Fortunately, this meant there were lots of available seats so we had no issues getting seated this past Saturday for lunch. CHINESE BROCCOLI WITH OYSTER SAUCE (蠔油芥兰) - 9.25 Great option for veggies, but the Chinese broccoli tasted "old" since some were hard to chew. Not a lot of oyster sauce on some pieces which made it bland and boring. I probably will get another veggie option another time. PORK W. PRESEVED EGG CONGEE (皮蛋瘦肉粥) - 6.95 The congee consistency was good but there was barely any pork or preserved egg in our congee. The pork as shredded so thinly that it was comparable to pork floss. Since we were able to get four bowls out of it for the four of us, I guess not the worst option. STEAMED BBQ PORK BUN (蠔皇叉烧包) - 6.95 Each order comes with three buns. These were one of the better dim sums this time. The bread was fluffy and tasty and the char siu was flavored well. I wish there was less bread and more char siu, though. I'd recommend getting the steamed BBQ pork buns here. SPARE RIBS WITH BLACK BEAN SAUCE (豉汁蒸排骨) - 6.95 The taro was a nice touch, but not too many. Most of the ribs here were fat and bone, with very little meat. Overall, not impressed by the quality given that this was 6.95 for a small plate of ribs. CHICKEN FEET W.SPECIAL SAUCE (好味酱蒸凤爪) - 6.95 I really enjoyed this even though they were a bit fatty. The sauce was delicious. The chicken feet were thick. I'd recommend them. SIU MAI (柱黄蒸烧卖) - 6.95 Each order comes with five siu mais. I really enjoyed these. The pork and mushrooms were tender and tasty. These were steamed perfectly today. I'd also recommend the siu mai here. SHRIMP CREPE (鲜虾肠粉) - 7.75 Each order comes with three crepes, cut into halves. Oof, these were not great. Maybe when they made the crepes, they made them too thick because they didn't steam properly. The crepe itself was super sticky, thick and unsatisfying. The shrimp was OK and the soy sauce was flavorful. Definitely not a fan of the crepes here this time around since it was not fresh. PAN FRIED TURNIP CAKE (腊味萝卜糕) - 6.95 Each order comes with three turnip cakes. I really enjoyed these and the turnips were pan-fried perfectly. I didn't feel like there was too much flour and not enough radish. I would recommend these. DEEP FRIED SESAME BALL (香麻煎堆仔) - 5.95 Each order comes with three small sesame balls (so not the gigantic ones). These were absolutely delightful. The crunch of the sesame skin in my mouth was so satisfying to hear and the sesame filling was perfectly sweet. If I had a bigger sweet tooth, I'd order one plate all for myself. I would highly recommend these. BAKED CREAMY EGG YOLK BUN (金酥流沙包) - 7.75 Each order comes with three egg yolk bun. The buns stuck together in a very unappetizing way. When we tried to break one apart, the bun broke and the yolk spilled on our plate. These buns were definitely not fresh. Overall, the egg shell on top was still satisfying to eat and the sweet runny yolk was delicious. MINGHIN'S SHRIMP DUMPLING (名轩虾饺皇) - 7.75 Each order comes with four shrimp dumplings. These were probably the worst in quality out of all the dim sums we ordered. The skin of each dumpling stuck to the paper and to one another, too. Trying to pick them up ripped the skin open completely (some of it were forever stuck on the paper). Tasted frozen, old and not fresh. These shrimp dumplings were not it today. STUFFED STICKY RICE IN LOTUS LEAF (珍珠糯米鸡) - 7.75 Each order comes with two sticky rices. A lot of it was just rice (which at least was seasoned well) with very little chicken and peanuts. Came here on Tue morning at 11am with my husband. We are here in town after his Chicago marathon run. Sticky rice and chicken feet dim sum are delicious. Lots of fillings even salty egg yolk in the sticky rice. Bright inside the restaurant so makes people happy and comfortable. One thing I want to point out is that they serve every table their own chilly oil and hoisin sauce. It is extremely clean. I normally do not touch the shared chill boil where everyone touched the self served chilly boil container and the spoon !!! Just because of this I feel they care about customer's hygiene. The tripe was outstanding, my only beef with it was if it didn't have cilantro. The shu mai was very good as were the shrimp dumplings. An interesting place, nicely decorated, large and spacious inside, will definitely accommodate large groups. Menu is located on a tablet which is given to you once you are situated at a table (I can see how inconvenient this might be for a large group). Menu contains dim sum and traditional Chinese sections. I got crab meat corn soup first - it arrived super hot (temperature). There were literally 5 tiny shreds of the crab meat and the same number of the corn kernels in the cup, and the texture was almost chewy, really thick. Not a great soup in my opinion. The rest of my dinner was from the dim sum selection. Siu Mai dim sum was good, and so was sticky rice, even though the meat content of the sticky rice was strange (piece of a hotdog???). I also had a pan fried vegetable roll, and that was a very strange concoction. The wrapper, which was some sort of vegetable, was mostly resembling the cardboard. It was almost impossible to bite, and given an absence of the knife, this was truly the strangest Chinese dish I ever tried. Service was okay overall, however, I have a gripe. Once a large party left, a waiter was cleaning up the table. The loud, almost purposeful clanking of the dishes was going on for a good few minutes, making the restaurant experience really annoying. I don't know if that boy was angry at life or the dishes, but this was not good. No recommendation here. read more

This chain is usually much more empty - no need for reservations, just walk in and there are plenty of tables. I would say I like the atmosphere of the Chinatown spot more though - something about the hustle and bustle of the packed restaurant. But either way you're getting great food. Of all the items we ordered (a LOT), I would say my favorites were the beef rice noodles (chang fen) and the bbq pork buns. The beef rice noodles were packed with beef - these were super filling. Paired with the chili oil they provide, it's very yummy. The shrimp one was also comparable but I personally enjoyed the beef one more. The bbq pork buns were also very delicious - the outside was soft yet crispy and the inside was filled with bbq pork. Overall, very delicious meal for a very affordable price! read more

This place was close to my hotel, and I always try to seek out authentic Chinese food. I also love Dim Sum and eat it when I can in Los Angeles. This was just what I hoped it would be. Chinese broccoli was perfectly cooked and tasted great. Hot and sour soup was also quite good. The roast duck was very nice and had that great fatty flavor. I struggled to finish everything but powered through. Ha. I wish I'd brought a friend or two because there were so many more things I'd like to have tried like dumplings and buns. Next time. My love and I have enjoyed dining at MingHin in Chinatown, but on a recent frigid evening we visited the MingHin location in Lakeshore East for the first time. The interiors are colorfully decorated, and we were fortunate to sit near the windows with views of the nighttime cityscape. We ordered a selection of dim sum, and we washed the tasty food down with tea, ice water and also adult beverages. The service was actually fairly attentive during our meal, and we did order our food selections easily via a menu pad at the table. All in all our dim selections were pretty good (roast duck, baked BBQ pork turnover, pan fried corn and pork cake, fried shrimp rolls, and spare ribs with black bean sauce), though none of them bowled me over. My husband and I selected MinHin for our Christmas Eve dinner, as we were enjoying a staycation nearby. We were not disappointed. Though we've been to the Chinatown location, this is was our first stop at this site. Service was attentive, and the food was great. We opted for several dim sum selections, which were all tasty and served well-timed so that nothing was getting cold. Shout out to their Long Island Iced Tea, as it was absolutely so good. Overall, this location truly impressed me due to how neat it is decorated. I am all about ambiance, and this MingHin location certainly boasts an engaging atmosphere. One of the best dim sums I have had - authentic and high-quality Cantonese dim sum, which reminds me of Hong Kong. We came around lunchtime on a weekday and were seated promptly. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. There are the classics you must always order, of course - shrimp dumplings, shu mai, stuffed sticky rice in lotus leaf, shrimp crepe/rice roll, and baked bbq pork bun. I love how thin they make the dumpling skin, which is a good indication of how skillful the chef is. If you want something different, I would recommend Chaozhou style dumpling which has crunchy textures from jicama and peanuts. If you are feeling adventurous, I would also get the stuffed bean curd with pork and shrimp, chicken feet with special sauce, and deep-fried pork dumplings. I was also pleasantly surprised by the quality of congee for a dim sum dish, I found comfort in the congee as I was visiting Chicago. At the end of the meal, they give you complimentary fortune cookies and almond cookies. Service was quick and they filled our teapot often. BUT the plastic packaging with hot food inside vacuumed sealed and took forever and much creativity to open . When we went, the restaurant is short staffed so half of the restaurant was empty while we still have to wait for a long while. My group of four diners grabbed dimsum here last month when we were visiting Chicago and had a delicious time. We arrived a little before noon and managed to beat the lunch crowd that started pouring in about twenty minutes later; we were fortunate enough to be seated immediately. They've got iPads that you can submit your order on, which helped expedite everything immensely. The complimentary hot tea was light and floral, and the servers were attentive whenever we asked for refills and extra sauce. Favorites of the meal were definitely the crispy pork belly and the panfried green chive cakes. The shrimp shumai and dumplings were also quite good, especially the shrimp and peanut dumplings. They were unfortunately already out of the baked charsiu baos as well as the runnier salted egg yolk buns, so we had to settled for steamed and regular custard buns respectively, but those were still tasty. The pork and century egg congee could also have had more century egg, but that's true of most dimsum places, I feel. All in all, we had a yummy experience, and I'd recommend the location if you're ever craving dimsum and in the area. For the crispy belly pork in Macau style, I always ask if it is crispy. It needs to be crispy for the best experience - crispy skin, juicy and tender meat. The service is also nice - quick, efficient. Robust Chinese tea is presented when one sits down. Free cookie and fortune cookie are presented at the end of the meal. The store decoration is very interesting. It showcases the traditional Chinese art in a modern way. I came here for dinner one night while in Chicago. I was with a party of four and we decided to walk here from our hotel and enjoy the evening air. After quite a few twists and turns, staircases and a few elevators we arrived at the restaurant which is tucked away in a small alcove between buildings. I'm an explorer, so the roundabout way of getting there was right up my alley. Looking at the restaurant from the entrance it almost looked like it was closed at first. Upon walking in, there was a bar and some seating available in a small dining area. It seemed so empty and I wondered if it was closing soon, as it looked so neat and quiet with no staff to be seen other than one person behind the bar. I was in for another twist and turn as the person behind the bar greeted us and took us around a corner into a dining area that was packed with people and very vibrant. I caught a glimpse of the skyline through some windows across the dining room. Unfortunately, we were seated on the opposite end of the restaurant. We were brought complimentary tea, which was really good. Instead of a hard copy menu, we were brought a tablet to order off of a digital menu. It's an interesting concept but between multiple people trying to order off of one tablet, it felt a bit cumbersome. Unfortunately, the party I was with, was not in the mood for dim sum or a family style dinner, so we ordered separate plates. We did order some egg rolls for the table which came out quickly and tasted freshly made. I opted for the Beef Brisket with Eggplant and an Avocado Smoothie. The Avocado Smoothie had a good flavor and was not too thick or too runny. It wasn't overly sweet either. The Beef Brisket with Eggplant was also good. The brisket was tender and the eggplant was juicy. The sauce was thick and had a strong but good flavor. It was a large portion, so it was a challenge to finish by myself. After the main meal, we ordered some Baked Creamy Egg Yolk Buns, which were delicious. The service is very minimalist which is not an issue. The waitstaff did not come to the table very often unless called over. The food was good, service quick and the ambiance was vibrant and family friendly. When I'm in Chicago again I'll have to stop by again and sample their dim sum menu. read more

Great Chinese spot downtown. I read the reviews for MingHin and they had me at "all day dim sum". We walked from our hotel but it looks like there is parking at the Village Market Parking Garage. Like a lot of Chinese places, the service was efficient but somewhat impersonal. We guessed that ordering was to be done from a iPad left at our table - then without comment someone picked it up and walked off. We had to flag someone down to make sure we did it right and our order was in. The food started rolling out shortly later - each dish as it was finished. We ordered Chicken Fried Rice 雞炒飯, MingHin's Shrimp Dumplings 名轩虾饺皇, Deep Fried Shrimp Rolls 酥脆鲜虾卷, Singapore Stir-Fried Vermicelli Noodles 星洲炒米, and Beef with Snow Peas 雪豆牛. Everything was very good. The Beef with Snow Peas, despite being pretty simple, was one of the best things I have eaten in a long time. Came here on a Friday and had absolutely no issues getting a table at lunch. The restaurant overlooks a nice park and has a really great view out the window near the back of the restaurant. I love all the decor, traditional and modern mixed together. MingHin is always my go-to for dim sum in Chicago - I travel to Chicago specifically to eat at MingHin. I do think the Chinatown location might be slightly better in terms of food taste, but it's so close that I'd rate them the same. I really wish there was a MingHin in the Northshore! read more
