LENT 2026: FIRST MARCH FRIDAY - SWEET AND SOUR ROCK COD FILLETS Last Friday for lunch I needed to eat fish. At the last minute I decided to search through Yelp by typing seafood. The first name that popped up was Good Neighbor Seafood Restaurant. I've eating here multiple times. This was the first time I ate here during Lent Friday. I was thinking about sweet and sour fillets of rock cod rice plate lunch special or a la carte item of fillets of rock cod with corn in creamy sauce. I decided to get the sweet and sour rock cod rice plate. I've had whole rock cod in sweet and sour so I was intrigued how the fillet of rock cod would taste. For appetizer I ordered deep fried squid. Sweet and sour dishes are my guilty Chinese food pleasures. Even though the sauce is addicting too much of it makes the breading soggy. Also if the sauce is too thick you feel bloated. The first dish served was the deep fried squid. It wasn't rubbery yet had the bite. The breading was lightly coated so you can taste the squid. I came here for the sweet and sour fillet of rock cod. From appearance the fillets were lightly sauced. When I tasted the rock cod the breading was still crispy. That's how a sweet and sour dish should be a lightly sauced dish that you not only can taste the sauce but also can experience the crispiness of the breading. I've mentioned I've had whole rock cod in sweet and sour. How does the sweet and sour fillets of rock cod compare to the whole rock cod? I like the fillets of rock cod as they were moist. From my experience the meat of the whole rock cod tends to be dry because it is deep fried. With a name like Good Neighbor Seafood Restaurant you can't go wrong by eating there on Fridays during Lent.

We've been a few times now. And I have to say it's been some of the best American Chinese food you can find in the east bay. We enjoyed the salted fish and chicken fried rice, the orange chicken was great, our absolute favorite is the salt and pepper fish. It's light and crispy and incredibly flavorful. Another time we got the clams with black bean sauce and the seafood clay pot. Both were delicious as well! Highly recommended if you're ever in the Newark area!

It's been a long time since I've been back to Good Neighbor best Chinese around and service always great. it's still just as good as I remember. The food is top-tier, we ordered combination fried rice, sweet and sour cod, salt and pepper ribs, and salt and pepper wings everything was packed with flavor. The combination fried rice is a favorite (the egg is the best part)and the salt and pepper ribs are perfectly crispy and crunchy, just like the wings. Every bite is perfect, and served hot fresh off the fryer. The cod is always an all time favorite too. Coming back gave me the same nostalgic feeling, true comfort food every time.

Excellent neighborhood spot that I will be putting into the rotation. Generous portions and very courteous and welcoming staff While I was one of maybe three tables on a Monday evening, the phone did not stop ringing for takeout orders, especially the three dishes for $39 deal. Will have to find a bigger group of people to come back with so I can try more of the dishes!

I came with my family to celebrate my grandfather's birthday since it's his favorite restaurant to go to. I remember when they used to have a fish tank, which is now removed. The place hasn't really changed ever since I was a lot younger and it's looks much older. Perhaps, renovation can help. We selected different entrees, which are fairly cheap. The food is good though, but the issue is that the flounder got smaller in size is that we easily finished the whole thing. Another issue is the service, because we have to go up to them and ask for waters. There were times that my dad had to go up to them at least twice already. There may be other requests, but easily forgot what else we asked. I also like how they probably kept their work phone since I've been hearing the same ringtone for decades.

This place is very affordable with today's inflation cost. They have options that you can order 3 courses for $38.99. Most of the dishes on the menu are below $15.99. The foods are delicious. The seasoning are just on the spot. Highly recommend this place if you're wanting Chinese food & affordable.

Best Value and taste summed up this place. The 3-item menu had a vast offerings compared to other restaurants with similar packages. The portions are out of this world, and the taste is as home cooking as you can get. The most Americanized dish is Walnut Prawns... I have nothing against Walnut Prawns but with all the other authentic Chinese dishes, that will be the last thing I order. But I am sure it is good as so many people ordered it when we visited. The service was a bit rushed but very friendly. They are busy. If you are expecting white glove treatment this is not the place and you are not paying the $$$ either. Do expect noisy atmosphere typical to small neighborhood Chinese restaurants. But we are not there for the ambience, just food. If you want yummy big portions Chinese food with amazing value, you are at the right place.

    Yum yum

I highly recommend this place because it's cozy when you get inside and there's so many foods picked out of that you just want to taste everything I highly recommend this establishment because the food is very tasty as fatalities top 10 plus you feel comfortable like you're at home it's perfect to bring your family and friends here and just be comfortable eating your food when you could walking into establishment that you feel comfortable in it's the right establishment to go to and you won't regret about the taste of every single food that they serve you that you order so try it you might just like it and keep coming back for more bring your families and friends

Ever since we tried…read moreChinese style bbq skewers last year, we definitely wanted to try more, Dynasty bbq came up on Yelp and seemed quite reasonable in price and serving size. When you enter and get seated, you will be prompted to go on the url code at the table to pick your items. While I understand that this is the new way for restaurants to serve guests post-covid, the vast menu items you have to scroll through makes me long for physical menus of the past - but that's just my boomer take for the day. There were a bunch of other items like rice and noodle dishes that looked interesting to pair with the meats, but we were only craving bbq so we skipped out on the carbs. We ordered a BUNCH of skewers, from the standard beef, lamb, pork belly to chicken skin and a fried quail. All of the skewers had the same type of dried chili powder spice seasoning mix so unfortunately there wasn't too much of a diversity in flavor profile but on the flip side, it allowed us to focus more on enjoying the meat quality itself (this is where rice or noodles would definitely help cut through the richness). All of the meats were incredibly well-cooked and charred. It is on the drier side, so be aware if you are looking for a juicier, plumper cut of meat that some other restaurants have. Paired with the Chinese vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil, they were super delectable. My personal favorites were the pork belly, chicken skin, and beef. We had some leftovers to go and the staff provided us some extra sauce to go so that's a big plus. Great food here and definitely will be back to try more of the other menu items for the full experience.

We always order the cucumber salad here and dip our skewer meat into the sauce. Absolutely delicious! Their decor is fun, too. There are large, ornate wooden tables with candle heated (sterno style) warming plates throughout the whole restaurant. The ceiling is completely covered with hanging pink flowers. And not sure if they still have entertainment on weekend nights, but a few times in the past they had a musician playing a Chinese zither. If you like skewers, this place is definitely worth a visit.

It was a bit unorganized and people walking around but not sure where to seat us. We finally got seated and had to wait a while and waved down people a few times to get out orders in. It is okay, I am here for the good, not the service after all. Right? I was disappointed. The oyster pancake was extremely fishy. The rice cake (well not really a cake but inverted sticky rice cup) was cold and where is the pork floss? The chicken rolls were decent, the best dish. I didn't try the fried intestines but was told there were okay. The stinky tofu not really stinky. I think it is because we are in the US and many restaurants stopped selling this due to complaints. I can take that but the dipping sauce was lacking with no garlic flavor. The other items were nothing to write home about. We were waiting for our stir fried seafood noodles and finally waved down someone only to find out it is out, but no one told us. So we ordered pork chop bento as we saw the next table had one and the portion was amazing. Well, someone must have eaten our order in the kitchen as ours was half of the size as what we saw from the other table. The decor was very simple and as with most Asian restaurant it was noisy. But I was there for the food so no problem. But the food didn't deliver.

I went here twice before, and I wanted to leave a review…read more The ambiance is really good, it has that contemporary Chinese flair that is popular right now and apparently also has live music (although no one was playing at the times I went). The price is really good for lunch, about $30ish per person AYCE. There is simple selections of meat including chicken, lamb, beef, the sort. And there are a decent selection of soups. I tried the Beef Tallow Spicy Sichuan one and It was really well done. They also have lobsters and other seafood upon request, and they were really well done too for the price. The sauce bar is good. It has your typical Soy Sauce, Zhejiang Vinegar, Garlic, etc. If they added a bit more different varieties that would be great, like Ponzu or Hong Kong Soy Sauce. Of the times I came here, I never really needed to order more from the original order. They always seem to put out just enough. The most important thing for me though, was that their ingredients were really good. In most places that I eat, I typically get a bit bogged down/bloated or I might get some brain fog after. After eating here, I did not get that feeling at all and I feel much more refreshed/satisfied than usual. I know this is a personal thing, but that means a lot to me. Of the things to improve upon, I think the menu does need to be a bit more clear. There is a feeling that only the side food bar is unlimited, but the rest are not. The breakfast menu does not seem very clear, as I cannot tell if this is a one time serving or if it is AYCE as well. The rear area with the self-serving also is a bit confusing. Perhaps some more frills to go with it would improve the overall experience. The other reviews stated that the service was not very good; this may have been the case before but the times I been there the wait staff has been very attentive so maybe they have been listening. Jack's Restaurant tends to eat up a lot of the attention, but this little nook in New Park is sorely needed as the mall is pretty dead inside. I will definitely come back just because I don't feel bloated after eating. Please keep up the good work and hopefully what I wrote was able to help you in your business. Thanks! 我一定會再來。謝謝!
