Haven't been back to Pearl Bay for a while and decided to meet for dim sum here with some friends. At 11:20am on a Saturday, parking was really hard to come by already. We circled around for seven minutes and finally got one. The restaurant was busy and vibrant. Two huge screen TV's going and basically a full house. Good thing they take reservations! Service was decent considering how busy they were. Food came out at a good pace. The six of us shared: shrimp dumplings 蝦餃, beef balls 牛肉丸, bean curd skin rolls 鮮竹卷, rice noodle rolls with shrimp 鮮蝦腸粉, rice noodle rolls with minced beef 牛肉腸粉, Chinese sausage buns 臘腸卷, steamed chive and shrimp dumplings 蒸韮菜餃, pan fried chive dumplings 煎韮菜餅, baked BBQ pork buns 焗义燒飽, goji berry and osmanthus jelly 杞子桂花糕, and deep fried pumpkin balls 南瓜煎堆。Everything tasted good and authentic. Great food . Enough for 12 people and it was only $488 for 10 dishes . It was available on Monday to Friday , limit to two tables each night . We fully enjoyed all the dishes . We don't eat at a lot of Chinese seafood banquet restaurants in the Bay Area, but we came here for a family dinner, and it reminded me of HL peninsula and various seafood / dimsum places in Vancouver. Pearl Bay has high ceilings and a gigantic screen, and it seems like a lot of wedding banquets take place here. They have a hot deal weekday special that's $488 for a table of 10-12, and it was a lot of food. I think they limit it to a few tables a night. Service was not bad - they refilled ice water multiple times, which was surprising for a Chinese restaurant. That said, it would have been nice if they had actually announced what dishes we were getting. The menu included: - Chicken soup - Stir fried beef with vegetables - Cold marinated chicken and geoduck - Fish maw with pea sprouts and shiitakes - Fried egg tofu - Steamed fish - Twin lobsters with vermicelli - Suckling pig with steamed buns - Fried rice The highlight was the fish roe fried rice: great texture and flavor. Other things were variable in flavor. For example, the lobster was good, but the vermicelli texture and flavor were lacking. The banquet menu we got was good value and was more than enough food. This dim sum place doesn't get great reviews. Not sure why. It's always packed. Always. Is it the service? Maybe. They never seem to have enough servers. Is it the price? Maybe. Everything is more expensive everywhere these days. The thing is, this place is solid. I've always had a good meal here. Everyone I've ever shared a meal with here has always enjoyed it. So, maybe the lower rating will scare others off. Personally, I'll enjoy eating here over and over again. Updating my original review to increase to a solid 4 star review. Last night, May 30, 2026, Dad and Thelma treated me to dinner at Pearl Bay Restaurant to finally celebrate my birthday. We arrived around 7 PM without reservations. The restaurant was PACKED with several parties one of which was a wedding. Still, we were able to be seated at a table after about a twenty-minute wait. Below are what we ordered: Macau Style Roast Pork Belly ($22.99) - Good, but on the salty side. Steamed Shrimp Dumpling (6 pcs, $16.99) - Yay for Pearl Bay offering these dim sum dumplings for dinner. These are HUGE har gow because there are two shrimp inside. Double yay!! Sweet Corn & Minced Chicken Soup ($18.99) - Velvety smooth and the perfect balance of savoury and sweet from the corn. Sweet & Sour Chicken - I didn't see this in the menu, but I requested for a plate of crispy chicken with a sweet glaze. Our waitress suggested this and said that she ask the kitchen to fry the chicken to a crisp. Although I would have preferred a little more crisp, I was happy with the flavour. Special Deep Fried Tofu ($13.99) - These looked a lot crisper than they were, but I still enjoyed the little cubes of fried tofu. Crispy Spring Rolls (6 pcs, $14.99) - These fried egg rolls were crispy, indeed. The side of sweet and sour dipping sauce were a good complement. Wok Fried Minced Chicken, Diced Fish & Pine Nuts with Lettuce Cup wraps ($23.99) - I heard our waitress ask if we wanted it with chicken, and I didn't taste any fish in the yummy mix. Very nice. Pearl Bay is well known for its dimsum and banquet dishes. We came to celebrate mom's birthday. There were 12 of us and was perfect to order from the banquet menu (Suckling Pig Set) instead of à la carte. They also had a special price on weekday. Since it was a weekday, it was not too busy. We had called ahead and was seated right away. I wasn't able to take pictures of all the dishes but this is what it came with... half roasted suckling pig, geoduck clam salad, steak cubes, deluded seafood, soup, braised fish maw, steamed lobster, marble goby, fried rice and dessert. Everything was fantastic... especially the suckling pig, geoduck and fish maw. Everything was fresh, well seasoned and plentiful. We had packed a number of items that we could not finish. Definitely worth the price! Afterwards, they brought the cake we bought and sang happy birthday to my mom. It was a wonderful night. The staff was gracious, accommodating and overall nice. This place is like a typical DimSum place, super busy and honestly pretty loud, everyone seems to be chatting and having a good time. They also have the carts that go around that you can directly pick from after ordering your original order off of the paper. The food comes out pretty fast, even though they're super busy. Har Gow is my favorite so those were pretty good, the wrapper was not too thick 4/5, same with the siu mai. The beef chow fun was pretty greasy but that's pretty typical with this dish, the color was pretty nice on the noodles too 4/5. They offer Jasmine hot tea or chrysanthemum hot tea, and water when requested. Again pretty typical Dim Sum experience, nothing too extravagant or out of the ordinary, and a bit pricey. Came in for a Friday late lunch and there was no wait. The whole Dim sum menu was available. The tables are changed over fast since there were tons of layers of disposable tablecloths. I ordered the crispy pork belly, a couple hagow, a steamed rice dish The pork was really crispy and came with this savory brown sauce. I would order it again. We had our wedding at Pearl Bay Restaurant, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience! We had eaten here multiple times before our wedding and always had great food and excellent service, so choosing Pearl Bay for our wedding was an easy decision. The food and service continued to be just as great on our wedding day, and the venue itself is beautiful and made for a perfect setting. A special shoutout to Cindy, our wedding coordinator at Pearl Bay. She was absolutely amazing throughout the entire process. She was incredibly helpful, responsive, and always easy to reach whenever we had a question or needed anything. I did not expect to see a line out the door as soon as the restaurant opened, on a Thursday morning. Luckily the line went through quickly. However it was a bit confusing, the host had directed us to follow her to the right of the restaurant only to change her mind and lead us to the left side. We got seated and served tea right away. The table and dishwater was clean. We ordered a variety of items and came out backwards. We got the dessert/sweet items first before the savory dishes. This is not cart service dim sum. There are carts but it's to deliver the items ordered from the menu pamphlet. Service is decent as well. We didn't have to wait too long to get water refills, utensils, to go containers or bill. Mmm, I've had better dim sum elsewhere. Service is standard and parking can be a pain, so definitely allocate extra time for that. The food at Pearl Bay falls apart so easily. The dumpling skins and the cheong fun break apart the second you touch it, and my group all noted that we've never experienced dim sum this fragile. I'm also pescatarian, but tend to be more vegetarian at times. My sister asked if any dumplings were vegetarian, and staff told her two options. HOWEVER, both had either shrimp or pork. I don't speak any Chinese and the hostess pointed to the side, I was assuming that she told me to just wait there because we were just a table of 2. Seemed like a lot of people were waiting for bigger tables. Group after group kept getting called and I definitely saw groups of 2 that came in after me and got seated before me. So I tried speaking to the Hostess again and she seemed confused an seemed to forgot she told me to wait on the side so we were finally seated because I told her we been waiting and I never got a number. It was super chaotic. Bummer, I guess when the name change happened, they don't seem to push the dim sum carts anymore. They gave a paper menu to mark off the items you want. Food came out very slowly, probably like one dish at a time but in about 10-15 min intervals. Also towards the end, I noticed they missed an item. I asked how long would it take so I can determine if we should wait, the server said 10 mins. It was definitely longer than that. The food was good, but the service and wait time was horrendous. Also, I miss the carts so not sure how often we would return because our meal was also pretty expensive for just 2 people. If the service was better, this would be close to a 4 star restaurant but unfortunately the service was not good. I didn't mind this since I already know what my family enjoys, though I do miss the old days when carts were pushed around the dining room. It was loud inside since the place was packed but that's pretty typical when you're going out for dim sum. Dining out for dim sum these days is certainly more expensive than it used to be. There is a long line of people blocking the entrance waiting to get a number for their table, however, there is no staff by the front desk to give out numbers promptly. The dim sum today is not good at all. Most dishes are luke warm. They also left out 4 of our dishes that we ordered. The only one that's hot is the stuffed eggplants after we complained it took forever. It turned out they didn't place the order at all (after we marked it on the paper) We waited for a long time and asked for at least two waiters to check for the rest of the missing dishes. By the time they finally checked, we were told one of the dishes was sold out and the kitchen is also under-staffed. We saw that dish earlier when they delivered it for other tables that came later than us. If they did not delay our dim sum, we would have gotten the dish that we ordered since we came pretty early. Pearl Bay Restaurant has become our favorite dim sum place in Fremont. The menu is extensive and the wait has become bearable ever since they added the Yelp reservation system. The place is huge with two big-screen televisions on each side. Our favorite items are the Crispy BBQ Pork Buns, Deep-fried Pork Dumplings, Siu Mai, and Shrimp Rice Rolls. My husband and our younger daughter would get either (or both) the Intestines with Garlic and Black Beans or the Steamed Chicken Feet with Special Sauce. The top of the pork buns makes it more special than the traditional versions. The pear-shaped dumplings have very good texture too. Both items have well-seasoned fillings. The siu mais are very juicy, moist, and flavorful. We sometimes try a different dish, but we usually stick with our favorites. I went to Pearl Bay on for dim sum brunch and arrived around 11am. The place was already packed and I did have to circle for parking. The restaurant does wait for the entire party to be present before seating so keep that in mind. My party of seven ordered a variety of dim sum dishes including shrimp ha gow, pork siu mai, turnip cake, and rice rolls. However, the highlight of the meal for me was the seafood fried rice with brown rice. I always enjoy trying somewhat unique twists on typical comfort foods and the brown rice mixed into the fried rice definitely enhanced the dish for me. Since each person marked whatever we wanted on the menu, we ended up overordering a bit but that is okay since we all had some leftovers to take home. Considering how busy the restaurant was, out food arrived fairly quick and this was perfect since some of us were starving and didn't eat breakfast prior to coming. Surprisingly the restaurant is not as loud inside so you are still able to communicate to others across the table without any issues. The staff is able to communicate just fine in English but I also did have Cantonese speakers in my party which helped make communication a bit easier. I would definitely consider coming back even if it is out of my way. Overdue review; the family and I have been going to the OG Asian Pearl and continued to visit after new management and rebranding to Pearl Bay. Dim sum has been fairly standard with some days being better or worse than others. However, I will admit that service has remained pretty good with quickness and efficiency. Restaurant is bright and spacious, often busy with a loud atmosphere particularly on the weekends and dinner rush. They actually forgot our XO noodles and beef chow fun and we were relieved since we couldn't finish the 2-3 orders per item. Lesson learned for next time. I found most of the dim sum was on par with what you'd expect anywhere. While I found the taste to be just ok, I will take a moment to acknowledge the content of the dim sum (ie: plump shrimp in the har gow) was pretty substantial. Hard pass on the xiao long bao, which were super sad with zero soup in them and the wrapper was so thin it basically disintegrated the moment I attempted to pick it up with chopsticks making a complete mess. The one in San Leandro is under renovation so my family decided to go to Fremont one. Same owner alright. My first time visited the location. The menu are typical Chinese food. Since its birthday, the noodles and chicken are must. We ordered a few menu. Most food for me was salty. The best food for the night was noodles then the soup lastly was salty fish fried rice with lots of eggs. At the end of the meal, there was free red bean dessert. My cousin and I took our moms out for dim sum at Pearl Bay Restaurant, it's a very modern, clean, and new restaurant with high ceilings, decorative walls, and delicious dim sum. The dim sum prices tended to be high, with a few special offerings, but prices of dishes are high everywhere in the SF Bay Area, so it wasn't surprising, however, the food quality was very high. I give the restaurant five stars out of five for both presentation and taste. The wait staff ran around but tried to be attentive, we got refills on our tea pot after we flagged down the staff. It was a very busy day for the restaurant, and nearly all of the tables were full. The restaurant is a good place to meet up with your extended family for dim sum or a place go out with your friends, or to go on a date. The outdoor mall features many nice restaurants as well. This was my first time at Pearl Bay for a Chinese banquet-style wedding. The interior is quite elevated and easy to dress up for those who might be considering this as a wedding reception venue. Overall, I would give the banquet dishes a 3.5/5. The courses consisted of all the standard banquet dishes like the appetizer plate, a soup, lobster, duck, fried rice, fish, and a few meat/vegetable dishes. While the lobster was strangely cut and difficult to eat without anything to crack the shell, the duck and fish were both very fresh and flavorful. In terms of service, the waitstaff could have been more quick and efficient about delivering dishes to each table and ensuring that all dishes were clean. There was a bowl or two that seemed to still be dirty on the inside as the waiter started to serve soup for everyone at the table. The next day, we returned to Pearl Bay for dim sum. I had a better experience with their dim sum service and dishes - even though we had a party of 16 people, we were seated within 30 minutes. Staff were patient and accommodating by bringing additional chairs and utensils as needed. We accidentally over-ordered, but despite that, the waiters ensured that all our food arrived timely. The classic dim sum dishes like chicken feet, siu mai, shrimp dumplings, and cheung fun are all fresh and well-made. It would have been helpful to have had more chili sauce at the table.
