We were on the way from Glenwood Springs to aspen and was trying to find sushi restaurant and we found this place. Surprisingly they offered Peking Duck which I loved. Peking Duck has a lot of meat and was tasty. Tuna tower was interesting and tuna tasted really good. Service can be a little approve. Looking for a new sushi spot in Carbondale. I think I'll keep looking . To start we had to wait a while at the front because no one was around to even greet us. When we finally were greeted our server cleaned a table for us and sat us down. We were greeted with water and menus and left to decide. It's my wife's birthday so we were planning on getting her favorites sushi, crab rangoon, and soup . We ordered everything at once 3 rolls 1 appetizer and two soups. Our plates and my wife's hot tea came out and every plate had some kind of leftover crusted food on it. Even my wife's tea cup. No biggie. I've worked restaurants before it's all good. I start to notice there is only one server and she's doing her best. Our soup comes out and tastes amazing. After a while our sushi comes out but our appetizer never came. The rolls were okay and some elements of the rolls definitely didn't belong, overpowering the main ingredient of the roll, but all is like I said "okay" our server found out about our appetizer and brought it promptly "Thank you" and we ate the rest of our dinner. At the end of our meal we ended up going with dessert which was comped and very nice of our server to do that! The cheese cake was really hard and too thick but the mochi ice cream was exactly as intended. Over a okay experience. A few problems but okay. The biggest issue is our poor server all by herself. I hope every one tips her at least 20 percent. read more

We've eaten in and ordered take out several times now and have been disappointed in the last few visits. The hot & sour soup was far too gelatinous and lacked flavor; it had heat but not good flavor. The pork "egg rolls" were inedible. They not only looked unappealing (grey ? sponge like?) not a typical egg roll... and they also tasted like they were previously frozen and were so dry. Stopped by today after a trip downvalley from our home in Snowmass Village. The food was spectacularly good. This is the best jalapeno yellowtail in the valley. The Japanese Udon noodles were superb. My wife's Pad Thai was B+ . This place is great and service is really really good. read more

I stopped in for lunch as I heard they had good specials. The pricing was average at 8 - 10 bucks a plate. However, it didn't compare to other local Chinese restaurants as far as what is included for the price. It came with soup, an egg roll, and jasmine rice. No choice of fried rice. No salad, no wonton. The food itself was ok. Again, nothing really great, just average Chinese food. My general tso's chicken tasted more like sweet and sour chicken. And unfortunately had 3 times veggies to chicken. The dipping sauce or the egg rolls however was excelent!! The service definitely left something to be desired. I got a quick hello from behind the bar as he pointed to a table. He brought me water and asked what I wanted. I ordered my meal and was brought my soup. Then my food about 3 bites into my soup by a different person. I never had interaction with anyone again until I finished and they brought me the check. I had to get up and retrieve my own soy sauce. And my water cup is empty. I'll give it another try at dinner time and maybe try the sushi bar, but I won't return for lunch. K-gen just up the road in el jebel is a better option. read more

There was a guy who used to run this place almost everyday and we would literally come here twice a week because he was awesome. Once he left the service was a disaster!! Check your bill people, last time we went we had not one, not two, but 3 things on our bill for 4 people that we didn't order!! It wasn't like she accidently ordered it and brought it to our table she just added it onto the bill at the end ( hopefully by accident but 3 things!! That to me seems like someone was hoping we didn't look at the bill) Service was spotty otherwise. This week we visited and the girl there was great so hopefully they are figuring that out. Otherwise the food here is pretty good. I like how they have different options of Asian food: Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese. Last time, We ordered some of the stir fry and both had stomach aches probably from the grease so this week we stuck to soup and I enjoyed the pho. I can't say too many bad things about this place cause it's 100 times better than Kanneyaku but you guys messed up by getting rid of the guy there. I eat here for lunch or takeout occasionally. The steamed dumplings and sushi are good, everything else never tasted fresh enough to me and is generally fried. I tried the lunch special, the Japanese bento box. It came with a tasty but average 4 pieces of California roll (even though I had requested tuna) and the fish was crunchy and overly fried with barely any actual fish. I didn't touch the spring roll, as it was basically fried wonton paper. The miso soup was decent. I really wish the food was fresher tasting. read more

I used to really enjoy Ming's, they had very good, fresh food. It was (and still is) somewhat lighter than other Asian restaurants in town meaning the sauces for foods aren't as thick and sugary and they seem to be more homemade. Their soups are fresh as well and have decidedly less oil than other soups from similar places. It used to be a place I would go for a good, quick lunch with friends or family. Their sushi used to be top notch and the best in the valley. It was extremely fresh, and made with care (you could tell the chef was a master of the art and held a good amount of passion for his craft). Service has always been mediocre with the staff sometimes checking on you, and sometimes never saying a thing unless you stop them. One thing I've always found a slight annoyance is that their timing with dishes seems to be completely carefree. Meaning that an appetizer, a soup, a salad, and your entree would all pretty much come out at once instead of any real order. It was annoying because you had no time to eat your soup while it was hot or your appetizer while it was fresh before the main meal comes out. However despite these things, Ming's was always a favorite of mine. Until recently... I am not sure what has happened but they seem to have undergone some drastic changes and they haven't been for the better. The old sushi chef is gone and the replacement does not work with the same care, precision, or consistency the old chef had. On three separate visits, I had three distinctively different versions of the same order (spicy salmon roll), one time it had rough cut pieces of salmon and salmon row, the next time no row and fine cut fish with what appeared to be bits of fried tempura batter, and then one with the crispy bits and the row. Other rolls like spicy yellowtail have also suffered in quality as the fish is never cut in consistent pieces so some parts of the roll are loaded with a thick chunk of fish and some are only slightly packed. In addition the quality of their other foods seems to have decreased as well with their hot and sour soup going from being a five star dish to being bland and even slightly metallic in flavor. The dinner salad that comes with sushi combos went from being made with fresh greens to seemingly being made with wilted looking salad mixes that contained a lot of root ends of iceberg lettuce. The service seems to have changed as well in the negative sense with waitstaff airing more on the "ignore you" side than the "check on you" side, and on one visit they never put in my sushi order and I had to wait until after the rest of the people in my group finished their entrees before mine arrived. During this visit the server merely said "sorry" and nothing else and I didn't want to say anything to cause problems but it was somewhat annoying. The final reason I'm giving Ming's this score is that the prices seem to have skyrocketed as well. On my last visit, I went with one friend and we ordered a pot of tea, a salad, a pho entree and some sushi rolls and the bill came to $50.00 which is very high even around here. By comparison, two people getting dinner at Beijing Tokyo ordering two entrees, drinks, an appetizer, and sushi rolls came out to $43.00 and the entrees had considerably more food. It makes me sad to write this review as I really have loved this place over the years it's been around, I've found myself craving their food while away at college, but this summer it became clearly obvious that it had taken a downhill drive. If you want good sushi and Chinese or Japanese entrees I'd recommend the Carbondale staple of Beijing Tokyo over Ming's for it is now a higher quality, and more affordable destination for such food. Ming's rocked the market in town when they opened and forced other establishments to step up their game, now it feels like they don't think they need to compete anymore, but I wish they would make some positive changes in the future. At this point, I'm not sure I'll be going back. read more

More than disappointed. This place came highly recommended and we told them so upon being seated. One person seated us and another person brought our water right away. That was it. No one came back to take our order after 10 minutes. There were only 5 patrons (a couple ees ho just received there bill and was checking out and 3 men at the counter/bar area. This is a very small place. The two men who greeted us and brought water just kept talking to the 3 guys at the counter and the waitress was just talking to the other couple. They simply ignored us for so long that we had to find another place to eat. Plenty of other grest places to eat here. I do not recommend. read more

In my opinion this is quite honestly THE BEST SUSHI on the entire western side of Colorado. If you want unique food in a super modern yet open comfy atmosphere with awesome knowledgeable staff and a super accommodating owner this is yer place. Its everything you want in a sushi experience. We asked Jeremy to just start bringing us his top dishes and he kept them coming! I suggest you do the same! Very little effort on the customers side required....it was seamless. This used to be mine and my wife's, favorite place to get sushi in Carbondale until this last Saturday. It was our Valentine's sushi meal that we do annually, the waitress tried to sit us at a 2 top and when I explained we were going to buy alot of food and be there for a while, asking for the 4 top next to it I a got a condisening sniff and a crappy look. As we ordered our first round, 6 rolls, 2 orders of sashimi, and 2 orders of nigiri the incredulous look on the waitress face got worse. She refused to ask for refills on drinks from that point on. (Mind you we had just arrived) After eating our first round, we wanted to order another. The waitress made such shitty looks and horrible comments on how much we were eating that my wife went into her shell and couldn't order for herself because the waitress had made her feel so bad and self conscience. We are both big Japan nerds. Everyone that knows us, knows that about us. We always get asked where the best place for sushi is in Carbondale. We always directed everyone to you. NOT ANYMORE. We will NEVER eat at your restaurant again, and will NEVER recommend you to anyone else. We spent $165 that night, normally we go into the $200-350 mark and make sure the chef and waitress are both well taken care of, bit we couldn't this time around because we were practically chased out of your facility. read more
