My son and I went to grab a late bite to eat. We showed up about 30 -40 minutes prior to close. We had a great meal and did not feel rushed one bit. Hole in the wall spot-usually the best kind! We came in during happy hour and ordered from that menu and regular menu. Staff was great, food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Hubs and I returned from a 2-week trip to Japan in September. Got a craving for Japanese food and decided to do Mio, one of our old standby's. Over the years, Mio became a little hit and miss. Tonight was a hit. We were greeted and seated within a minute! Drink orders taken and brought lickety split along with robust miso soup. Now you may ask how can miso soup be robust? Well, it was full of miso flavor! All miso soups are not created equal. Although the restaurant was full, it wasn't noisy. We started with the unagi and spicy salmon nigiri. Melty fresh! Came out almost the same time as our entrees (something we have had problems with in the past, not today!) I ordered the unagi donburi. Eight slices of unagi and two artfully cut slices of tamago came arranged on a bed of rice and shredded daikon, in a pretty lacquered box. Unagi was tender and had a light teriyaki-type sauce. Hubs ordered the Japanese chirashi bowl which reminded us of a beautiful one he had in a historical district n Tokyo. A spectacular arrangement of colorful and delicate sashimi. He loved it. Two servers refreshed our tea and water regularly. And we received a cheery goodbye from the sushi chefs. Four of them were hustling back there the entire time. Good food. The fried tofu was exquisite. The miso soup isn't vegetarian friendly and they were attentive to verify with me before taking my order. They I couldn't understand what should I eat the rice with that comes in the bento box lunch. My friend also enjoyed his donburi bowl. The service is quick and polite in a casual setting. Chose this sushi place while waiting for my partner to finish an operation at the Kaiser hospital. It's hard to find a quality veggie sushi sometimes, and Mio definitely has some options! The tempura veggie roll came in 5 big pieces and the miso soup is very good too, not too watered down like I've seen commonly nowadays. These two opens cost me only $10, so of course I tipped, even though it was a takeout order. Very fresh, easy pickup right at the door, will go again when I visit! read more

It wasn't super busy when my partner and I went. We were welcomed and seated immediately. The calamari was surprisingly light and it wasn't super chewy. I would definitely order this appetizer again! The wait didn't take long and the rolls were all amazing. The ahi was like a nice cleanser to the other more heavy-flavored rolls. The salmon so flavorful and the Mt Rainier was a good in between. It wasn't what I was hoping for, but they give really good portions for the price. We ordered a good variety of things. Wife thought everything was great but I thought it was just good or okay. Our table was also incredibly sticky. They charged $1.50 for spicy mayo so be aware due to the sriracha shortage. The sake prices are also pretty high, so I wouldn't recommend that there. Ordered 2 sushi combos, udon, tempura, bento, variety of nigiri, and a roll as well. The sushi combo had nice thick pieces of fish though the rice was overcooked. I did enjoy that the combo came with a tuna roll which I haven't seen, most places seem to offer sushi combos with California rolls so this was a nice surprise! The udon was a darker soup base than we were used to which was different though still enjoyable. The nigiri was eaten fast and the bento was filling as we got the 3 entree selection. Staff worked hard to pack and separate orders with hot foods in one bag and cold foods in the other. All wearing masks and social distancing from customers. The extra thought of putting cardboard under the soup containers so they wouldn't topple over and had support was well appreciated. Were pretty big fans of this place. I've had a lot of GNOs starting here. Great food, great price point for your meal. Have I had better sushi? Sure, at super high-end sushi restaurants but definitely not for less money. But I've had heck of a lot worse sushi, too! The service is always pretty good and definitely friendly. I'm not sure what happened to this place but I was slightly disappointed at their service one night. Came with our family on a Monday evening for dine-in. The entire place was a bit empty so we weren't aware that it was busy until we had to wait almost 45 min from the time we ordered for them to bring out our food. Saw other tables who got seated after us get their food sooner. Let's just say, it left us a bit Hangry. It also seemed like they were getting all their take-out orders out first because we saw many customers picking up their orders. If I knew it was quicker that way, I would have just ordered ours to go. I've been to other Mio locations who had better service and time management, but this is not one of them unfortunately. Both of the rolls were small and as you can see from my pic, didnt have much substance to the roll itself. The sushi pieces were decent and for $7 not bad, while the rolls were overpriced for the size and taste. I never write reviews on yelp but do not come here. Overpriced, garbage food. They even charged $3 extra for selecting galbi on bento. The pic of the galbi under was the biggest piece in the bento- you will get max 5 pieces. Also doubting the meat is even actual galbi doesn't even have bones and the texture is odd. It was all very good. The fish was really fresh and they use real crab in their rolls. As a result, they are not the cheapest place in town but you definitely get what you pay for.
