This place deserves 10 stars! We've been going here for over a year now and they have always been so good to us. We love Se-in & Ryosoke and the rest of the staff! The kindest and most hardworking people at this location. Sushi/food: NEVER fails to impress me. I will never go back to conveyor belt or anywhere else. ALWAYS fresh and juicy. They have the best salmon & salmon skin!!! Best rice for the nigiri as well! We tried the Beaverton location and it was not the same. Miso soup is done very well here unlike others that are more powdery. This location always keeps a consistent taste! This place is the only place I will get udon noodles as many places make their broth overly sweet, overpriced, smaller than expected, and with fake meat! I've been here a few times and had a good experience. This last time however was so bad I needed to update my review. I wanted take out after a long day at work and usually get the Bento box but decided to go for the Sushi Combo. 3 types of Sushi rolls including a Cucumber roll which I did NOT want. So I asked if I could substitute it she said yes, I ordered a double of SPICY Tuna and California Roll. I made it clear I did not want any cucumber or avocado (Food Allergy). She said said ok and repeated NO Avocado/Cucumber. I told her I would be back and went next door. When I came back my order was packed up tightly and waiting for me on the table. She walked over and handed me my food. I have ordered take out from here before and didn't have any reason to double check. When I got home I saw a California Roll packed with Avocado and Cucumber and my SPICY Tuna roll was NOT SPICY it was a REGULAR Tuna Roll. I was going to let it go but as I forced myself to eat not so cheap rolls I wanted to throw it out. It was too much work removing everything I asked her to omit and the Tuna Roll was bland since it wasn't spicy. I called and the same lady with the heavy accent answered, I told her I was just there and explained the situation. She was immediately defensive and told me I did not order a Spicy Tuna roll. That is Ridiculous because I ONLY ORDER SPICY TUNA ROLLS wherever I go. I have never had a mixup when I have done so until now. I also explained due to my food allergy to Avocado I can't eat it. She kept talking over me telling me it's my fault etc. I asked for a manager she said there was none. Hence this review! This unassuming shopping center Mio Sushi puts out high caliber fare. Every dish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Udon was just right chewy, and the broth was lightly salted and deeply flavored. The yakisoba with veggies had the perfect amount of oil (not too oily or dry), and the noodles were delicious and had a sensible amount of black pepper. The salmon nigiri just melted (in a good way). This is my go to sushi place when I have a mostly non sushi eater with me and I need a place a step or two above conveyor belt sushi. Its close to my house. Bonus. Yes its a chain. But a NW chain, so pffft. The family that runs it, theyre all super sweet. We have always had good service and they are great about kids. Once a server made my daughter a napkin flower and another time the sushi chef made her a teddy bear out of an orange. I remember that kind of thing. Lasting impressions. Little genuine kindnesses towards my kid go a long way with me. I love the miso soup and the hot tea. The menu has lots of choices, not just sushi but soups and noodles and bentos. And rice dishes. . Tonight was bento box night with a few nigiri. It was all delicious. We spent about $45 + tip for two people. Not conveyor belt cheap but not nearly what we'd spend at Syun. There is something about the connection between chef and patron that I really like at a good sushi place, but that's me. The service staff is very sweet! Unfortunately the poor women (2) were so run off their feet that it made it a little difficult to catch one to make additional orders. It seems that this place is used to people just placing an order once and everything comes out in a big platter. This place deserves another review. Hands down, the freshest, best sushi on this side of town. It's more expensive than Toshi's, so I visit less often. However, they obviously have way more to offer. Tons of new special rolls, and some of the most inventive rolls I've ever had. Don't get me wrong - I love boring sushi. You know, rice + fish = yum. I have been visiting Mio since the early days when there was only one shop in NW Portland. These days I live closer to the Beaverton and Tanasbourne locations, so these are my most frequented spots. Plus parking is much easier as the original NW location is not disabled friendly. The sushi here is pretty much always consistent, especially the rolls. You won't find glitzy hyped-up and over-sized decorative rolls here, a little more traditional in portions and combinations. I mostly go for the Oregon Roll, the real crab (not Krab), salmon, fresh avocado and crispy asparagus bite is so addicting. It's really all I need. Now the not so good ... I'm also a huge fan of Hamachi nigiri and sashimi, but have not had good luck at any location on several occasions, even tried some nigiri and sashimi cuts again just a few days ago. Sadly, never again, not sure why Mio just can't get this one right. Hamachi (yellowtail) is one of those kinds of fish where if it's off, it's just kind of gross. Hamachi should have a more translucent color with a soft clean buttery texture and taste, non-fishy if that makes sense!?! Seriously. More often than not, if it's muddy or dull in color it's probably going to taste off, like old fish. Too bad, as Hamachi is one of my favorite kinds of fish and overall Mio has been a solid sushi experience. Salmon nigiri and sashimi has always been perfect. I've tried a handful of their other rolls and have had no complaints, it bodes well that they use real crab more often than fake, so I will continue to get them here. Pricing is fair and average market price. If anything it's on the lower price scale, but not by much. Parking varies by location, Beaverton is terrible due to recent construction (12/2019) and Tanasbourne is always easy with a big shared lot, NW is stairs only and street parking. Service has always been friendly and wait times have always been within the mark. read more

Unexpectedly came here one Friday night when my boyfriend and I decided we wanted sushi for dinner, and we just happened to be in the area. I've seen Mio Sushi in several locations and figured it was a chain, so I wasn't sure what to expect. First and foremost, the service is AMAZING. There were several things on the menu, and being first-timers we weren't sure what to try...we both absolutely love sushi and wanted to try everything! We asked one of the waitresses what she would recommend and what were their most popular rolls/dishes and she pointed out SEVERAL things on the menu that would've satisfied what we were specifically craving for. For example, she suggested the "mountain rolls" (they're called Mt. Rainer, Hood, etc.) if we wanted something baked. She also had a few other suggestions from their deep fried options and just seemed to know the menu really well as a whole. All the waitresses made sure we always had water, and came in to check on us from time to time. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. I didn't think they were too expensive or super cheap, but just right. From the appetizers, we ordered the Agedashi Tofu, Shrimp Shumai, and Baked Mussels. All three were pretty good, but the tofu was firmer than usual. The cream that the mussels came with was a little bit too overpowering for me, but it was still pretty good. We ended up getting the Mt. Rainer sushi roll, which had baked salmon on top, some sauces, and a drop of Sriracha. However, the inside of the sushi roll was nothing too special. It had the usual cucumber, krab (imitation crab), etc. If you like creamy sauces then this would be a good one to try. What I really liked about their menu style was the fact that they had suggested drinks for certain plates. On the bottom of some appetizer descriptions were sake or beer suggestions, and I thought that was pretty neat. It takes eating and drinking to a different level, especially since certain sakes and beers are really good paired up with certain foods. Before this place, I hadn't seen that on any other sushi restaurant menus. Overall an enjoyable first time, but nothing too fancy or "out there". Their customer service deserves a round of applause, and I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu options! read more

On top of waiting the projected 40 minutes. I got there and told to wait 30 more minutes only to come back And be told twice more "30 more minutes". The people were completely useless and not helpful at all!!!! I finally asked them to cancel my order and refund the card and they were so rude and made me (who had happily waited for 2 hours Bucease i wanted SUSHI) feel like a terrible person completely in the wrong for being mad. Came here for the first time for dinner Friday night date night. I was craving Ramen. We pass this place all the time when to take our puppy to PetSmart but have never been. It was pretty busy for a Friday night but we didn't have to wait and were seated right away. There were a good selection of Japanese beer and sake. I got the Kyu Ramen and White Tuna Roll and my fiancé got the spicy chicken. Ramen was OK. Not what I'm used to coming from the East Coast but it made me full. He said his spicy chicken was pretty spicy which was good! The roll was ok also but I think they might have put too much vinegar in the rice. But I quickly noticed the corn, green beans, peas and lima beans in the veggie mix were from a frozen bag. Gross. They mixed it with sauteed onions and the spicy sauce and tofu, but I couldn't get over the awful taste of the frozen veggies. Why not just use fresh vegetables instead? Very disappointed. read more

Stopped here to for lunch today with Wes M cause I decided that I couldn't stand another day of cafeteria food and he wasn't feeling soup. Holy cow. I got SO much food for just under $8. I ordered a bento box that came with California rolls, tempura, veggie gyoza (which I didn't wind up eating because there was a ton of food, but Wes says it is good), rice, and salad (which I also didn't eat cause, why would I want lettuce when I had all this other amazing food?!) and it was mega yummy. The miso soup was good. I don't usually care enough about miso to mention it because I really only drink the broth.. but this was good. My California rolls were fresh and the avocado was a good shade of green, which is always important... brownish avocado is bad. The rice was maybe a tiny bit more mushy and less sticky than I typically like my rice, but not bad enough that I want to complain about it. It was fine. The tempura was good, though I wouldn't have minded one more piece of shrimp in it, or maybe a piece of broccoli (I think yam is boring). The service was good, and the place is kind of cute, though not very Japanese looking. Minus points for the Christmas music playing in the background. read more

I'm usually a bigger fan of the sushi tracks since it's kind of a "pick what's there" kind of thing. But you know, this Mio Sushi locale works out for me. Yup, it's a bit pricier but their rolls are GOOD, the service is polite (even late at night) and you get what you order in a good amount of time. Plus, their specials rolls? YUM. We tried the Mt. Hood roll - Shrimp tempura, crab, avocado inside, spicy salmon, jalapeno, and a sauce on top. So-dang-good. That was on top of our usual tempura, miso, and other normal roll orders. Mio was a nice little place to stop by for a quick lunch. I came here with my mom and we both ordered a lunch bento set. I got the 2 item bento with salmon teriyaki and assorted tempura. (the set also came with salad and miso soup). The salmon was tender and the tempera was pretty good as well. My mom and I also split a spider roll order which resulted in a perfect amount of food for lunch. I will say that the amount of rice given in the bento was a bit excessive; however, the rice had a very fragrant flavor and we ended up taking the leftovers home. I'm OBSESSED with Sushi. Honestly, if I could eat sushi every day, I totally would, but it would definitely have to be Mio Sushi, and Mio Sushi only. I'm not afraid to try any type of sushi, raw, cooked, weird names, etc., put it on my plate, tell me what it is, and I'll totally try it out. Mio is the best place to go for FRESH sushi. I emphasize fresh, because I cannot stand already made track sushi -- that shit tastes like chewy plastic. The classic California roll is so amazing from Mio that you have to get it no matter what you order. I typically order: Either edamame or the miso soup to start with. 1 California roll, 1 Philadelphia roll, and my favorite Sushi Pizza. I know what you're thinking, "Ew, WTF is a sushi pizza?!" YOU HAVE TO TRY IT oh my god it is so good. It's basically a laid out sushi, flat seaweed layer, layer of rice, salmon, and the best sweet and spicy sauce ever. There's other stuff too, but I can't think about it without drooling all over the keyboard. Another goodie is the double crunch roll, SO delicious, and has a few different seafood choices in it, wrapped in rice and seaweed, then wait for it..... deep fried it tempura. My favorite Mio to visit is the Beaverton Round one right off of Hall Blvd, because they have outdoor seating, but the 185th location is just as convenient to my house and tastes just the same! read more
