One thing that is noteworthy is the dipping sauces and condiments that come with the meal. Something about the balance in flavors with peppers and mustard is to die for. Now depending on when you get to the restaurant, you might find that the broth is too salty or something is a little too "overdone." This is depending on when the broth has been cooked and perhaps the flavors are from the evening before. I was on a short trip to LA and was craving goat stew. After ordering, the server brought out banchans and sauce for the stew. One of the plates had a dead bug on it. I should've left when I saw it, that was only the beginning. On my way back from the bathroom, I encountered a group of 5-10 flies/gnats near the kitchen. When I came back to the table, I saw one sampling kimchi so I separated it from the rest of banchans. You will first get a big bowl of the stew with meat and lots of veggies. You dip the goat meat into the sauce that they prepare and it's so delish. The stew was my favorite part - so hearty and comforting! Once you're done, they pack up any leftovers (they give you extra soup and a side of the sauce to take home). We ordered 2 large pots for 7 people, and it was just filling enough; I'd recommend maybe another large pot if you have a group of 7. But the stew itself, WOW. It was so tender, so flavorful, and well balanced. It's boneless goat meat, green onions, perilla leaves (I think), and some other broth components. This was our goto place for goat soup, you just can't beat the taste, however we noticed that price has been steadily rising over the years, this was way way before inflation or supply shortage. We also noticed that as the price of the soup has gone up, the meat has also gone missing. They need to hire more servers as well, so overall they are cutting corners. Don't get me wrong, the place is still good but if you skimp on basic service and goods, they just lost a long term costumer that has been going there for well over twenty years. I'm a big fan of gget-nip (perrilla leaves) so the yumso-tang (goat stew) really hits the spot. The meat itself is similar to jangjorim (braised beef brisket) in texture. I have read about this Korean black goat place in one of the food blogs and knew I had to try it. We came one Saturday afternoon around 6-ish. The place was not packed but a lot of the tables were occupied. We were seated in one of the long tables up at the front of the restaurant. The place is basically a hole-in-the-wall and kinda smallish but plenty of seating. We were given the menu as soon as we were seated and I was thankful that they had English translations in them because I cannot read Hangul. We were the only non-Korean in the restaurant although I have been mistaken as one on more than one occasion. Service was friendly and the server readily explained the menu and answered our questions. We ordered the black goat stew and boiled black goat which came with a few banchan. One order was huge but the food was so good that we were able to finish both dishes. I love that the goat did not have that game-y taste as well as pungent odor. The goat meat was so tender that it practically melts in your mouth. For the stew, the server brought out a gas stove that will heat the stew until it boils which was very entertaining to watch. The only problem was the stew was a little too spicy for us so we had to ask for the rice to eat with the stew instead of waiting until the end of the meal for the server to cook the fried rice. The boiled stew, on the other hand, was a lot milder in taste. They key is to dip it in the sauce that it comes with which makes it super tasty. My friend and I was so full at the end of the meal and could hardly walk to the car...lol. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall. They have a small parking lot in front of the stores but it gets packed easily since all the businesses in the strip mall shares the lot. We had to park behind another car and the friendly security guard came and got us when the owner of the car in front of us was ready to leave.
