Mise en Place is a Tampa institution that somehow still feels fresh and exciting in its new Ybor City home. Every dish that came out somehow managed to outdo the one before it. We kept saying, "There's no way the next course can top this," and somehow it always did. Days later, we're still talking about the meal. The cocktails were just as impressive, with creative presentations that made them as fun to look at as they were to drink. Everything felt thoughtful and beautifully executed. Service was warm, attentive, and perfectly paced. We had a relaxed, leisurely dinner and never felt rushed, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable. One final bonus: parking couldn't have been easier thanks to the garage directly across the street. Between the incredible food, excellent cocktails, and outstanding hospitality, it's easy to see why Mise en Place has remained one of Tampa's most beloved restaurants for so many years. read more

We came here for a date night and my fiance started with a lemon drop martini which was in her top 10 of all time. For appetizers we had the lamb skewer and crab and shrimp pancakes; sadly both were subpar. The lamb was overcooked and the pancake had too much ginger. I was meeting up with an old friend while in town and he suggested we try Mise En Place. On the way over he told me the history of how they were a downtown staple that recently moved to Ybor. He is also a restaurateur in the neighborhood and wanted to check them out. It was late on a Tuesday night so the place was pretty quiet. We sat at the bar and had some old fashioneds and shared a few apps. Our bartender was great and the old fashioneds were perfect. For one drink I switched to a pour of my favorite Angels Envy Rye (which they had for a decent price), but switched back to the old fashioned for drink number three. The appetizers were all packing big flavors and often a unique twist. The Korean crab shrimp scallion pancake was light an airy. I didn't notice a ton of seafood flavor, but it was fun to share. Next was the Korean pork belly tacos. It came with two tacos which was perfect and the flavor on these was so good. The pork belly was perfectly tender with no fatty gristle. These are a must have. The star of the show was surprisingly the Mushroom Tartine which we only ordered because the bartender recommended it. The flavor on the mushrooms was amazing and it mixed perfectly with the soft goat cheese and crunch from the sourdough. Never take this off the menu. By the end of our visit we were chatting with the bartender and met the chef as well. I would love to come back for a full dinner here. read more

A five star experience from start to finish. This is fine dinning at its best. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about the dishes and extremely friendly. They go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. You will never have an empty glass while dining here. The food is delicious. We thought the restaurants was overpriced for what you get. I like how the new location is located directly across from a trolley stop in Ybor City. This is very easy to get to from Benchmark international Arena. When you walk in, you walk right into the bar. We were seated in the back. Up first, I had a $15.38 espresso martini. It isn't on the menu, but they made it for me anyways. I was a little confused as it comes in a mini glass. It's literally half an espresso martini for $15.38. Bogus, rip off. For an appetizer we had the $17.38 Korean Pork Belly Tacos. I really liked these and thought it was the best item of the night. We split a $16.38 8th Ave Caesar Salad. When it was split, it was the tiniest salad I've ever been served. For the main entrée I had $43.38 Hanger Steak Frites. It was fine, the meat was pretty good, but I'd probably try something else next time. I did like my $12.38 side of Exotic Mushrooms. I would get those again. I also, had a $15.38 Old Fashioned. The glass was barely even made halfway. Scam. Overall, probably wouldn't come back here. Super small portions for a very big price of just ok food. read more

Great place! We came here on Saturday evening. We had to make a reservation a few days in advance. We arrived and parked close by on a large parking lot that was free. Ambience was absolutely amazing, romantic, modern, and upscale. We shared a flight of wine for both of us since we don't drink much and it was great. We tried a few different wines. Food was pretty good as well. We started with complimentary bread plate. Each bread was different and absolutely delicious. We then got a charcuterie plate which was very nicely selected and delicious. Arugula salad with green tomatoes was split for us, and we really enjoyed. We also had zaatar grilled shrimp and we loved it. To finish the meal we had market fish dish which was absolutely perfect! From our appetizers to our main dishes everything was delicious, creative and beautifully presented. In the old days at the previous location, we had found the service to be slow but not anymore. Food wise this place has delicious duck and halibut. Duck was cooked perfectly to medium rare and the fat had a nice flavorful crust. Halibut was blackened nicely, 0 fishy flavor, but decently juicy and good flavor. Going on to the food I wasnt particularly a fan of but wasnt bad either. I had the shrimp dish with the grains(i cant remember the name for the life of me). The flavor profile primarily just didn't pop. The mushrooms were phenomenal if you like mushrooms (im not a fan myself) it wasn't wet which was nice and the flavor of the mushroom popped out which is a +. The oysters and scallops were a disappointment primarily because they felt as tho the dish was masking the flavor of the seafood itself. Would love more emphasis in bringing out the flavor rather than covering it with other ingredients. Overall the food was great, despite having what I would consider "mediocre" dishes I'm a picky eater and I enjoyed eating everything which is extremely important. The restaurant made sure to only put good items on the menu and not half ass anything. In terms of desert I got a raspberry sorbet (waiters rec) and it was exactly what i asked for (not too sweet and fresh n fruity). Server (she looks like huda from love island) was amazing, very polite and attentive. The busser was extraordinary, very professional girl and despite her very serious work face lol she was always making sure everything was good with our table and even replaced a dessert for us and notified the kitchen. Seating wise, amazing, comfortable, decently spacious. The seats themselves are great enough to mention it twice. The spacing is by no means huge but neither too cramped its a good balance. I walked around and the decor was nice. The bathroom was also clean and tidy. 4 stars: Unique dishes and solid flavors Our first night in Tampa, we decided to check this place out based on a recommendation from locals from our golf pairing earlier in the day (thanks, Scott!). The ambiance in here is super cute and upscale - perfect for a date night. Service was fantastic. Attentive, informative, and friendly. They have a menu with lots of different options, as well as multiple appetizer and entree specials described by our server. FOOD: ~Complimentary salmon spread (5/5): This little spread on a crostini was so good. If it was a menu item, I would definitely order it. ~Complimentary bread (3/5): While the flavors were really good, the focaccia and biscuits were on dryer side ~Pulled Duck Butternut Squash Mushroom Ragout (4/5): The flavor of this ragout was so good and was perfect with the grits. The sauce alone was a little too salty at times for me, but it was balanced out with the grits. ~Cobia Crudo (2.5/5): the flavor wasn't necessarily bad, but this dish confused my palate. It felt very muddled with too much going on. ~Buffalo Meatballs (special; 3/5): Meatballs were very soft and juicy, but the dish as a whole was very one note. Nothing spectacular. ~Duck Breast (3.9/5): The flavors of the duck, sauces, onions, potatoes, and cabbage salad were phenomenal. However, the duck looked like it was cooked to the perfect temperature, but was very tough and hard to chew. If the duck was tender, this would easily be a 5/5. ~Molasses Pecan Crusted Rack of Lamb (3.5/5): Again, the meat looked like the perfect temp, but it was just a little tough. The flavors were decent and not too gamey. The vegetables that came with this were undercooked for our liking and the onion ring was soggy. This also came with grits. ~Wild mushrooms side (4/5): no frills. Various different type of mushrooms which gave you different textures within one bite. Lets the mushrooms speak for themselves. My only very minor complaint is that a lot of their dishes comes with grits as their base. While the grits were some of the best I have had, several of the dishes we ordered were accompanied by grits (more so my fault), and so it became increasingly difficult to continue eating since grits are heavier and denser to eat in a large quantity. This restaurant needs to decide what it is. Is it fine dining...probably not any more. Except for the prices. Bread service was over 12 dollars, but came out cold in the center. Pork belly tacos were good. Steak frites were good, but the steak came out closer to medium as to med rare. As to fine dining, the staff and front of the house, dress the part. Waiters in all black was top notch. The greeter was efficient, but in an untucked shirt and another in camo pants and a t- shirt. Patrons in cutoff shorts and t shirts. Decide what your clientele is and cater to it. You can't be both casual and fine dining Overpriced for casual dining, and the food and and experience needs to be upgraded to be a fine dining restaurant. read more

First time trying Mise En Place, and definitely will not be the last. We came for a birthday, and the staff was so sweet and attentive. Our waitress even brought out a champagne glass for us to celebrate the birthday. It is well decorated inside, with a very elegant and upscale ambiance. For our appetizers, we ordered the ALEPPO CRUSTED SHRIMP, which were so plump and flavorful, and TRUFFLE PARMESAN FRIES, which were crispy and had plenty of a truffle flavor. For our entrees, we got the MOLASSES PECAN CRUSTED RACK OF LAMB and LOBSTER TAILS. The lamb was very flavorful and tender, though a bit more rare than we are used to. The lobster tails were also wonderful, with a nice smokiness that paired well with the sweet creamy sauce. I personally would have liked it if they were able to place the lobster meat on top of the shell or provide small forks to remove the meat, because it was a bit difficult removing the lobster from its shell. For dessert, we got the TAHITIAN VANILLIA BEAN CRÈME BRULEE, which was good but nothing out of the ordinary. It was an amazing dining experience and we will definitely return. We went to Mise en Place for my birthday. It was my very first time at a fine dining restaurant and I'm pleased to say it wasn't as daunting as I thought it'd be! The atmosphere of the restaurant is incredibly relaxed. There's nothing pretentious about the environment; it simply is a room filled with people who want to enjoy good food. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. They even gave us complimentary champagne to celebrate. The food was really lovely. Our appetizer was the Korean red shrimp crab pancake. I never had a dish quite like that before. It felt like it truly lived up to its motto, "for the adventurous in plate and spirit". We then tried the duck breast which had pulled duck exotic mushroom pea fregola sardo, gruyere creamed kale, grilled zucchini, shaved radish pea tendril hazelnut salad, and cherry minus 8 brandy fennel gastrique. Had an amazing dinner last weekend while in town. Restaurant is very sleek with an open concept. Service was impeccable. Our waitress was very sweet, gave us time to overlook the menu, helped us make choices and answered any questions we had. We started with the cobia crudo which was plated in a deconstructed manner that was unique. We all had a tough time choosing our entrees because they all sounded so delicious. I ordered the duck breast because it was out of the ordinary and sounded delish! My fiancé got the pecan crusted lamb chops and my bestie order the filet. We were interested in the scallops but no one ordered them so we got them as an appetizer to try. For dessert we shared the guava panna cotta. It was light and refreshing with a granola topping. We have always loved Mise En Place. So we were excited to try their new home. We first went for drinks on Valentines Day, sat at the bar, the drinks and our bartender Corey were phenomenal. Corey told about Brunch, so made reservations for the next day, Sunday. The service was great, the food was typical Mise En Place, epic. We shared the duck soup, it was the best soup I've ever tasted, it was flavor after layered flavor, andouille sausage, corn, carrots in a rich peppery broth. My husband had the Zippy Dippy burger and fries. Medium rare, when I tell you the taste and temp were spot on. The fries were hand cut and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It was juicy, perfection. I had the crouque Madame. The egg was cooked hard, not enough béchamel and the bread was hard, not the best version I've had, but it was ok. The wine flight was great, as was the espresso martini. Will be back again for brunch to try their new home made brisket and another burger. The space is different from the original (Kennedy), but modern, smaller, parking was in a garage at 14.00 for 8 hours, or 2.00 dollars an hour. I have loved this resturaunt for a long time! Parsnips were very hard, i couldn't cut it with my cutlery. * Chocolate basque cheesecake dessert: MAJOR LETDOWN! I was looking forward to this dessert but it was quite dense. My wife and I come to Mise maybe twice a year for a special occasion but I haven't reviewed since 2017. Nothing has changed about my opinion except how much of a crime it is that this place doesn't have at least a 4.5 star rating. I get you'll always have someone who has a bad day and maintaining a 5-star rating is really difficult, but 4 stars is a travesty. The only change, besides their seasonal menu changes, has been the ambiance as the restaurant was redesigned in the past few years. It is gorgeous and romantic and you'll love it. I started with a gin drink that was basically a gin old fashioned. Then I had a second. I loved it. I would have had more but this is Mise and the drinks can be pricey. However, it was a perfectly made old fashioned even with gin. We started with the LA1 pizza, hold the sausage. Never would have expected a French restaurant in Tampa to make an excellent pizza but they did. Perfect crust. Perfect sauce. The goat cheese (or was it gorgonzola) was different but delicious. I then got their chicken entree. I've never gotten chicken here before-usually duck or fish and occasionally steak-but it looked really good and I've gotten duck like half a dozen times. Waiter said he would never recommend chicken over duck anywhere he has ever worked but he recommends the chicken here all the time. Anyway, he was right. Cooked perfectly, juicy and a bit crisp on the outside, and the veggies and sauce it came with complimented the dish perfectly. The chefs here are artists. The meals always amazing. Service was fantastic. There is never anything to complain about here. Yes, some meals have been less amazing than others, but this one was not one of those. This one was perfect. Good place to come for an intimate celebration or quiet date night. Ambience was understated, reserved. Quiet luxury vibes. The service was likewise high quality and present, not overbearing or simpering. Husband had two cocktails, the Haiku and a buffalo trace old fashioned. As to the Haiku he just kept saying "it's not bad... just odd." It was served in a small bowl of a dish rather than a cup, like one would sip ramen broth (the dish for which the drink is modeled and inspired). The old fashioned was a solid, good pour, stout without the burn, exactly what you hope for in a smooth bourbon drink. I had the Sober-Roni, and it was delightful. Actually tasted like what I wish all Negronis actually tasted like- I do wish there was a way to add dryness without alcohol but that's an ongoing search, and Mise en Place answered it well; 9/ 10 recommend. First thing, offered an amuse bouche of cold, seared endive. Bitter but well prepared and accompanied by a creamy blue cheese aioli. The combo was pleasant and the blue cheese offset the natural bitterness quite well. Next up, we ordered the Cobia Crudo. I did love this and the flavors were outstanding! The tostones were a little soft rather than crisp but otherwise a great start to the night. I also tried their squash and crab meat bisque. Smelled beautifully of curry and had a rich, spicy flavor that packed all the heat of a seafood bisque with none of the fishy flavor. Probably my favorite dish of the evening. For mains. I selected the venison loin. The meat was the star of this dish and cooked to juicy perfection. The hominy, however, had an unpleasant flavor that I unfortunately could not get past and did not enjoy at all. A complete shame. I thought it might be my palate since I am pregnant and that can change your taste (a weird but true side effect!), however, my husband said it wasn't to his preference either. Bitter and smoky and just a lingering... stale taste after that. I was disappointed but I don't know if it's just my palate being unrefined or if there was something off about the hominy. Either way not the fault of the restaurant, just not for us. My husband ordered the lamb chops with Amish cheddar chili grits and a cayenne buttermilk onion... donut (lol!) and it was fantastic. Those grits were creamy and perfect and the lamb was tender. He was extremely happy with his dish and I was jealous ha. Desserts: guava panna cotta and lemon ricotta cheesecake. Perfection on plates, we ate it all and scraped the plates clean. 10/10. Price tag under $300 for all. Overall it was a wonderful evening and dining experience. I would recommend trying Mise En Place, and we will likely return in the future for intimate evenings although it may be a while given my unfortunate luck with my main dish. read more

For appetizers, we selected the soft shell crab and cobia crudo. The soft shell crabs exhibited a crispy texture, while the sauce subtly complemented the umami flavor of the crab. The cobia crudo's oxtail dashi sauce paired exceptionally well with the flavor of the cobia. Furthermore, the cobia fish tasted remarkably fresh, with firm texture. For our entree, we had cavatelli and filet of beef. The cavatelli pasta tasted like it was home-made and is cooked aldente. The blue crab adds a touch of sweetness, effectively balancing the spices in the sauce. The filet is tender on the inside and has a firm crust. The chef has cooked it to a perfect medium rare, with a robust beef flavor lingering in the aftertaste. The sauce accompanying the filet is well seasoned and subtly complements the flavor of the filet. A dessert is essential to conclude a culinary experience. The lemon ricotta cheesecake is highly recommended. Its exceptional softness and lightness are notable. The blueberry elderflower gel enhances the cheesecake's tartness, resulting in a well-balanced flavor profile. Alternatively, the warm olive oil pistachios palenta cake was adequate. The cake's warmth, sweetness, and subtle olive oil flavor were apparent. Additionally, the cake's softness and moisture were impressive, particularly when paired with vanilla ice cream. Honestly, it wasn't bad, just not great. It seemed that any dish that was very good was too small for the price. My dish was ok in price for the size, but too bland. We did appreciate the vegan options though, since one of the group members had a dairy allergy and ate mainly vegan meals. Service was decent. Our waiter was nice and attentive, but it did take a very long time to get our bills at the end (granted we did come with a large party and we all paid separate). The highlights of the meal were definitely the biscuits they serve for free and the vegan brownie for dessert. 2.5 stars. The food would rank 3 in my opinion, but the service was hard to swallow. To start, they sat us in a very weird place, at the back of the restaurant, completely isolated. No one spoke to us for at least 10 minutes until we finally asked if we could move. Once we moved, the ambiance was better but the service continued to be inconsistent. For example, my husband ordered the "haiku" drink. It comes in an actual bowl. The waitress didn't warn us that it would be coming in a bowl. She just set it on our table, along with our appetizers. We, thinking it was a sauce, were dipping our bread in it! And no one said a word. Even when we asked where our drink was, they still didn't say anything. Very avoidable with some basic communication. The food was fine- but I don't get the hype. The Brussel sprouts weren't the crispy deliciousness you usually expect from a place like this. The rest of the dishes were forgettable. Nothing blew me away. The s'mores dessert tart felt like it should have been warm, but was served mostly room temp. Overall, the attention to detail just isn't there. The staff were nice but rather spacey, and the food was good but not great. If you're thinking about going, try On Swann or Edison instead. They're a similar price point with excellent food, service and ambiance. read more
