    Colombian Empanadas
    Maddie T.

The food at Mishqui Cocina is very tasty! We ordered the colombian empanadas, the seafood rice, and the half rotisserie chicken. We were warned that the seafood rice would be very spicy, but we didn't find it spicy at all, I'm not sure if they made it not spicy without telling us or if that's how it is normally served. It was still delicious and very creamy! Service overall was spotty, at times they checked on us too frequently and other times they were nowhere to be seen. Once we placed the order, it did feel that the food took longer than I expected. Regardless, I would return and try one of the many other dishes

i stopped by for lunch during Madison Restaurant week. For $20, it was a 3 course lunch. That was good value for money. Peruvian empanada had a slight taste of pastry, while columbian empanada had a corn taste. I think I liked the Peruvian version. Monstrito was my favorite entree. It was a quarter chicken with fried rice. Chicken was tender and flavorful. Chaufa de pollo was a good fried rice as well. Cappucino Tres Letche cake was a good dessert. Meringue sandwich was way too sweet and sugar like for my taste. Chica morada was an excellent drink.

So glad Mishqui opened its second location in my backyard! Located in downtown Middleton where K Peppers used to be, the new location offers everything the Monona location did, with the same outstanding quality Peruvian food. We got the pescado frito and the fish ceviche and both were flavorful and excellent! Can't wait to come back and try more on the menu.

This a a decent restaurant. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food was nice enough but somewhat bland across several dishes and sides. I did appreciate that the desserts were not overly sweet. The little cookies were really quite nice - I'd stop in just for an order of those.

The food was delicious and the portions generous. The restaurant is cute with Peruvian touches including a full sized stuffed alpaca. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I had chicken cilantro soup which was piping hot and my husband has a chorizo stuffed empanada with a masa crust for starters. I could not finish my soup and took half of it to go. For entrees, I had vegan portobello cilantro stew with came with white rice and stewed white beans. My husband had rotisserie chicken quarter with fried rice a stewed beans as his chosen sides. They did add 15% gratuity but we gave more. Well worth it.

Cute spot with delicious food and good service. Our waitress was very helpful. I got the quarter chicken with fried rice & plantains as my sides. I also got the pescado ceviche. Chicken was very tender and flavorful! The fried rice was equally delicious, as were the sweet plantains. My friend got the potatoes as her side (I will get those next time). The ceviche was very refreshing. I finished my meal with some chicha morada & it was earthy and sweet. Only slight ding to the experience was that it took quite a long time for our food to come out. But when it did, we could taste the care put into the meal. Can't wait to go back.

Locro de zapallo (front) and chicharrón (back)

We stopped here on our way through Madison and were very pleasantly surprised. My husband is Peruvian and we're always looking for good Peruvian restaurants. We had a vegan chorizo empanada, fried yuca, locro de zapallo with a fried egg, and chicharrón de puerco. Everything was very delicious and authentic. They also sell a lot of very tasty looking pastries and some Peruvian snacks and pantry staples. Very cute place and the service was excellent.

    Seco de res

This place is delicious! I got the Lomo saltado, and my husband got seco de res. Both were tasty with generous portion sizes. The empanada, chicha morada, and thousand layer cake were also great.

Excellent food and service. Try the ceviche! Loved the empanadas, too. They have two kinds and we couldn't decide which we liked best.

Food: A nice selection of pizza, split between ones with and without tomato sauce. I got the Lombarda which has Gorgonzola Cream, Pears and Apricot Glaze and Arugula. My wife got a cheese, sausage, mushroom and onion (CSMO). Both of them came out, pipe hot, with nice crisp crust. Nice presentation for both pizzas. They were both good, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the Lombarda. If it had Apricot Glaze, it wasn't very noticable, and maybe was the reason that it needed a bit of salt to enhance the toppings. The CSMO was very flavorful, and clearly the better of the two. Service: Super friendly and helpful service, both when ordering and when the food was delivered. The cashier was patient and happy to give us advice on what their favorites were. Atmosphere: It's a small place. Some interesting vintage large photo print on the walls. You order at the counter, then take a seat at one of the tables along the left side of the restaurant. It looked like there were as many people picking up to-go orders, as there were dining in. We enjoyed our drinks, a non-alcoholic drink, and a wine spritzer. Illustrious descriptions and they lived up to their descriptions. The first dish we were served was mushrooms à la grecque that was served cold and it was tasteless, and frankly didn't match any descriptions in the menu. The next dish was a Basque Terrine. The flavor of the pork terrine was rich with a little bite of chili. Unfortunately, it was too dry. This terrine was served with delicious fig jam and stone ground mustard that was a lovely garnish on the terrine. It was served with a baguette, which was toasted unevenly, including one burnt slice. How this made it on to the plate coming from a bakery is a puzzle to me. There was also an unnecessary addition of cornichons and carrots with a tart, bitter vinegary taste. Despite my criticisms of this dish, it was my favorite overall. Next we were served a bistro steak with a green herbal sauce that was truly delicious. We also ordered Halibut which was described as being served with a Comté-Walnut crust. We didn't taste any of these additions and the fish itself wasn't fresh. It had a fishy smell and we only took 2 or 3 bites and put it aside. We ordered 2 side dishes. One was red and golden beets that didn't match the descriptions in the menu although it looked beautiful. There were no flavors of honeyed lemon or balsamic glaze. We also ordered duck fat potatoes that were way too salty and overcooked. As an end to very nice service, we finished up with delicious orange sherbet and even more delicious pistachio lemon cookies. On paper, the menu had us primed for a fantastic meal but the details were lacking and we were truly disappointed.

We made a 12:00 PM reservation, which was definitely necessary because the place was full. Right off the bat, our server asked if anyone had food allergies or dietary restrictions. When I mentioned I have celiac disease, he confidently assured me they could absolutely accommodate it, which immediately gave me peace of mind. I ordered a strawberry spritz and we shared the gluten-free donuts to start. A huge win for the celiac community is that they have a dedicated fryer, so we also safely shared the truffle fries. For our main entrees, I had the fried rice which was excellent. My husband ordered the skirt steak hash with gluten-free toast and loved it, though it is worth noting for others that it packs quite a lot of spice. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive regarding the allergy protocols. The overall service ran a little slow, but it was understandable given how slammed they were for the Sunday rush. As an added bonus, the restaurant has its own parking lot, making the logistics seamless. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this spot, especially fellow celiacs looking for a safe and delicious meal!

Since it was nice outside we opted to eat on the small patio which was nice. Our server was was very good and kept things moving. It was happy hour so we ordered two of their spritzes which were $6 each - they were both good (strawberry/ limoncello). Appetizers were supposedly $10 each during happy hour - we got the tempura veggies which were very good. We also got the chicken wings which we later found out when we got the bill that they were not considered to be an appetizer covered by the happy hour pricing (they should make this clearer on the menu.) The wings themselves were good but six wings for $18 was a ripoff. I get it that inflation is high but that is ridiculous... My wife got the fried chicken sandwich which was very dry. This was the same result last time we were here - I guess we should have read our review and avoided it. Overall it was just an OK experience - disappointing.
