Food was absolutely delicious!!! The restaurant was decorated very cutely with both booth and table seating. The food took quite a while to come out, but it was definitely worth the wait. The empanadas were perfectly flavorful and crunchy on the outside. The chorizo had a stronger taste than the beef empanada, but the beef was wonderfully juicy and tender. Would definitely recommend getting them as an appetizer! We were warned that the seafood paella would be spicy, but when we tried it, it wasn't spicy at all! It was pretty yummy anyways, so I'd say it was a very salty dish rather than spicy or hot. The rotisserie chicken was very yummy. It came with two sides and we chose sweet plantains and the fritas. The sweet plantains were soooo good, they reminded me of turons except sliced. Only complaint was that it felt like we had five different servers, which made it hard to get consistent attention or feel any personal connection to the service, especially with our table tucked away in the corner, leading to slow and scattered service. Had a day date with my husband and stopped here for some lunch. This place has vegan and gluten-free empanadas. I feel like I died and went to heaven. They have Peruvian empanadas, and they have Colombian style empanadas made from cornflower. The vegan chorizo Colombian style empanadas were amazing! The Peruvian style ground beef and chicken empanadas were delicious as well. Their lunch offerings do have wine, beer, and even gluten-free beer options. The. Yucca fritas were delicious as well. When I was debating what sweet empanadas to take back home, I saw that they not only had sweet empanadas, but they had vegan and gluten-free black forest cake. I did not have the space to eat it, but I sure did bring it home. The black forest cake did not disappoint. It was delicious. The server was super kind and attentive. The gratuity is also included in your total which the server mentioned. He was also very proactive in asking if there were any allergies. I wish more servers and restaurants did that. Visited Mishiqui Cocina Peruana for dinner on Saturday. Was excited to try some Peruvian food around the Middleton area and was recommended by friends to visit them. The venue is just a block away from downtown Middleton and it's conveniently located in a small strip. Upon entrance, the staff were very polite and friendly. We ordered the beef empanada and the quarter-chicken combo plates. For the price, I thought the food was very reasonable. The empanada was good and the crust was crumbly. The chicken itself was seasoned well. I personally would have wanted to see more color on the skin from the grill / oven, but I the meat was great and fall off the bone. The yucca frites and tostones were also solid. It is noteworthy that all checks automatically include a 15% gratuity. Overall, had a good time. read more

The food at Mishqui Cocina is very tasty! We ordered the colombian empanadas, the seafood rice, and the half rotisserie chicken. We were warned that the seafood rice would be very spicy, but we didn't find it spicy at all, I'm not sure if they made it not spicy without telling us or if that's how it is normally served. It was still delicious and very creamy! Service overall was spotty, at times they checked on us too frequently and other times they were nowhere to be seen. i stopped by for lunch during Madison Restaurant week. For $20, it was a 3 course lunch. That was good value for money. Peruvian empanada had a slight taste of pastry, while columbian empanada had a corn taste. I think I liked the Peruvian version. Monstrito was my favorite entree. It was a quarter chicken with fried rice. Chicken was tender and flavorful. Chaufa de pollo was a good fried rice as well. Cappucino Tres Letche cake was a good dessert. This is the one restaurant in downtown Middleton that we keep coming back to. Our go-to dish is the lomo saltado -- and you've got to spring to add the plantains and fried egg! They make it fresh, so there is a little bit of a wait, but every moment waiting is made up a few times over by every bite! Super tasty Peruvian food with delicious drinks! We met some friends for dinner and while the service was a bit awkward (they forgot some drinks and it took some time to flag them down), the food and drinks were so delicious it was very forgivable. I love pisco sours and these were no exception - I loved that we had multiple choices of flavor too. My husband got the lomo saltado and I had the chaufa cecina- both were definitely the best Peruvian food we've had in the US! We also started with chicarrones which were imcredible. The dulce de leche desserts are also not to be missed - they were all so delicious. Interior is simple and functional but it does feel more like a to go restaurant than a place to sit down for a meal. Overall though, definitely worth a return! read more

So glad Mishqui opened its second location in my backyard! Located in downtown Middleton where K Peppers used to be, the new location offers everything the Monona location did, with the same outstanding quality Peruvian food. I really wanted to like this place, but sadly it just came up short. I love peruvian food and am always looking for a place in town that isn't on state street by the students, so when this showed up on the restaurant week menu, I grabbed some friends and said let's eat! I made a reservation and when we got there, there weren't too many people in the restaurant but it took a moment for the staff to get acquainted and seat us. I was surprised their restaurant week menu didn't feature their chicken and honestly, most of it was seafood forward. Thats fine, and maybe the star, but I was craving some good peruvian chicken so we ordered family style with some of the empanadas. We had 2 peruvian and 2 columbian. Overall, they were dry, the sauces saved it a bit, but it wasn't anything exceptional. The Chicken had good flavor, but wasn't incredibly moist and the sides were mid. I wanted to like this place, but sadly, I likely won't be back. read more

Cute spot with delicious food and good service. Our waitress was very helpful. I got the quarter chicken with fried rice & plantains as my sides. I also got the pescado ceviche. Chicken was very tender and flavorful! The fried rice was equally delicious, as were the sweet plantains. My friend got the potatoes as her side (I will get those next time). The ceviche was very refreshing. I finished my meal with some chicha morada & it was earthy and sweet. Only slight ding to the experience was that it took quite a long time for our food to come out. Both of our dishes were very good. We were there a little after the lunch rush (1:30pm) and it took a while to get someone to seat me, get a menu and also a little inattentive to our table after the food was served. With that said, the environment was pleasant, clean and the server was very polite. The deep fried pork was particularily delicous and portion sizes generous. read more

Wow what a delicious meal. My wife and I went there with my son who goes there often. The food is amazing. We ordered one of just about each kind of the empanadas. They were fantastic. If you want a light lunch, two empanadas would do the trick. My wife had the seco des res and it was great. They do have gluten free and vegan options and they are well highlited in the menu. The service was also very good. They were quick and attentive and very polite. The interrior is well lit and brightly decorated.
