I've tried this place a few times. I find the staff either rude or uninformed. I asked for sashimi (no rice) and was brought nigiri - okay, but then the waitress argued that it was sashimi. Sorry, nope. Twice, I've not had items arrived that I ordered but fortunately, my eyes were bigger than my stomach, so no problem, but I'm not paying for it if it didn't come. We were the typical bad patrons, big group came in right before the dinner rush and they were nothing but kind and accommodating for how busy they were. I didn't catch our waitresses name, but I overheard that it was one of her first few shifts, she did amazing and I hope she's recognized for it! The sushi is good. The waitress not so good: brought a Luke warm pot of tea to the table. Inspite of an almost empty room around 1100 am it felt a bit like she was only interested when she dropped the bill off. This could be an exceptional restaurant if management would require the wait staff to take just a littler more time to pay attention to the basics. I think restaurants that are mediocre do not pay attention to excellence and forget that many patrons are coming in for a time kind of away from the troubles of the day and hope to be treated as though they matter. I used to like this place but the last couple times I went there I made sure I ordered rolls with no shell fish I even ordered a chicken teriyaki roll and they deliberately put in shell fish when I asked them to remake the roll they brought back a tiny roll and all the extra chicken on the side was gone . The time before that they put in chucks of shrimp . I have a shell fish allergy so I usually get veggies or fish if I didn't comb through the rolls I wouldn't even know they put those in there you could kill somebody doing that! . read more

Being seated promptly, we have a good feeling about this! Waitress was a bit slow to get to the table. She was busy, I understand. Our order is a little difficult as we are vegan and gluten free. The waitress sends us another waitress, who is more menu knowledgeable to help us make decisions. The sushi roll comes out. Presentation is decent, but the size of the bites are huge! I feel obligated to take massive bites, because who wants to eat a piece in half?? Maybe everyone else just has bigger mouths? They tasted good at least. Then the ramen comes out. We ordered it with sweet potato noodles. Honestly it was just terrible. I almost never turn down food when I'm hungry. This was an exception. The broth was bland and gross. Noodles had a bad texture and terrible taste. They put corn in it as the vegetable.. Cmon, corn?! And it got worse. The Tofu was on the side for some reason, and when it sat in the broth the batter quickly got soggy. It was like eating an uncooked pastry at that point. Terrible ramen. The Seaweed dish we ordered never came out. I'm kind of glad, because at $9 it was probably going to just upset me ever more. I've never paid more than $5 for Seaweed salad at much nicer establishments. Please, if you run an establishment like this, pay for the premium version of your music streaming platform. I was advertised to about a dozen times during this dining disappointment. Oh and why is there golf on the TV in a Japanese restaurant..? Just get rid of the TV, it doesn't create a nice vibe. Then we waited way too long for the check. And the Seaweed salad was on the bill. I really should give 1 star, but I have a hard time doing this because the servers were nice. Extremely slow service. We went here for my son's birthday dinner and arrived at 6:15 pm. We had a hard time getting anyone to wait on our table so we were sure to give our entire order the first time the waitress came by. Two hours later we still had no food. We ended up leaving at 8:30 pm with our sushi packaged up for takeout. All of the other tables around us were served first, even those who arrived after us. This place was great! The service was wonderful, and the staff were personable and entertaining. The food was delicious, but really it was the service. I can appreciate when a place feels authentic, and for me, a Japanese restaurant with Japanese chefs is always a relief. Our waitress, and I think possibly the owner(?) was super fun and attentive. I spoke what little Japanese I knew and she was very happy to serve us in Japanese from that point on even though I was lost in the sōsu. I was stationed in Okinawa for 3 years, which turns out is where she was from! I love Japanese culture, and Okinawans are such a warm and welcoming people, and this was the vibe I got from this place. Very warm and welcome. Cut to the chase; the menu is great! Selection and options are fantastic and when a good crew is on the taste is excellent. However, 3star means the owner is rude, the wait staff under experienced and over confident (must be the dress code). The sushi chefs (too many) are experience but bored and unwilling to help the staff in anyway what-so-ever. My parents and I stopped by Medford on our way up to Portland. The front desk concierge told us to try this place if we liked sushi so we did. It was over 100 degrees and it looks like they are trying to expand. It was had to find the front door and the guy doing construction told us to go through thee back alley. Strange! We walked inside, we're not greeted by anyone and stood around until finally this blond chick in glasses noticed us. As a side not she just had a couple get up and walk out past us because they were being ignored. It's was not the way I wanted to start my dinner and to top it all off due to the construction, I'm pretty sure the air was out. This was the second not so good sign within a 5 minute period. We were finally seated and ordered. The waitress was very brass and not to helpful with suggestions. My mom and I split 3 rolls. I forget the names but the BSC will scallops was pretty good. My dad got the chicken bento box. This is the first place I have ever know of that does not serve miso soup with a bento box. Minus the hotness and difficulty getting into the restaurant, the food was pretty good. A little pricey but I'm used to the higher sushi prices in SD. This sushi is great. Creative dishes, multiple choices of fish on top of the rolls, sauces are made by the chefs & they are unique. Most places do very generic sauces but these flavors are out of this world. Servers are fun, energetic & it seems most of the customers that come in are regulars being that they were on first name bases which tells me, business is good. I've searched high and low for great sushi in Medford since I moved here a year ago, been to several places and I'm happy to say I have found the place! First time in Medford and was looking for a places that is open late. This place closes at 12, the reviews looked good, so why not? For a Saturday night at 10:30, the places wasn't very full. Once we were seated, the waitress was very attentive and willing to answer any questions we might have. While we looked at the menu she brought us some water. My girlfriend got the udon and deep fried California roll. I got the bulgogi with two scoops of rice. Food was delicious, Service was attentive. Minus one star because they didn't tell me that they ran out of white rice til after they brought me two scoops of organic black rice and I had to ask them why they brought me that. Sadly I have to give this place a 3 star. We picked this place because of the good reviews. However, we had to call 4 times before someone would answer- then when someone finally picked up and put us on hold, they hung up on us after 2 minutes of waiting. After calling back again, we had to repeat our order 6 times over the phone because she kept repeating back the wrong rolls- not a good start. The lady on the phone told us to pick it up in 40 minutes. We arrived and they asked "why are you so late?" ... because the lady on the phone said 40 minutes? We got home and the food was cold. Asked for no cucumber, and everything had cucumber in it. Rolls were pretty good but the beef dish we ordered was grissly. It was like biting into hard bits of rubber. For $70? Yikes. Update. Had to bring the rating down to a 2 star because the food exiting the body was like a hose. The fumes were so toxic after eating this food. Took forever to get service after we were seated, then once our order was taken it took forever to get our food.. the waitress NEVER came back to check on us, I had to go up to the counter to ask for more water, when we were ready to pay we couldn't get anyone to take our money.. finally got up and went to the register and a different ( very nice younger lady) helped us and our waitress literally pushed her out of the way!! I've had takeout from here before, but decided to eat in to celebrate a special occasion with my partner. The food here has been consistently very good, generous portions, and priced well considering those factors. One entree with tempura (like our fave, #13) is enough for two people. We ended up getting that again (spicy pork with tempura) a couple rounds of sake, the soft shelled crab, and mochi for dessert. The issue was the service, and I say this as someone who waitressed for years. Our server really dropped the ball. He clearly forgot to put our order in and it was quite late (a party was seated, ordered, and served before we even got our salad and pickes), left our glasses empty and our table unbussed, dropped the check before we could order dessert without checking in on us, then failed to pick the check up (I ended up just going to the cashier when he took too long). By far the weirdest part of the experience, though, was when he put eel sauce on our ice cream. We were also given dirty (like goopy with pages stuck together) menus when we arrived (although that's the hosts fault, not the servers). If I order here again, I'll be ordering to go. read more

This business broke the Cardinal Rule of Best Business practice... Pulled the old bait and switch!!! When in town I usually come to this restaurant for great sushi when I entertain customers for Lunch or Dinner.. NOT ANYMORE! I ordered take out and referenced the menu on the website and ordered based on 24.95 plate and long behold when I showed up I was charged 35.95 for the dish- explanation from employees- price went up and that's it, we are just employees... according to the waitress, she and her colleagues have said something to owners but they haven't changed it on website or app and have had angry customers... Wow, that's unacceptable because it's false advertising! MY SUGGESTION steer clear the menu may say one thing but they charge you another higher price and really don't give a shit! If they can't address a little thing like that how can they be trusted to do the right thing when cooking, cleaning or keeping the public safe.. short cut and lack of attention to detail may start to be the norm for this establishment - Unless I see some big changes or call from owners to discuss I will be taking my recommendations and business elsewhere!!!!!!! Absolutely delectable. You get large portions of amazing food for a great price. You get to watch your incredibly fresh sushi get made right before your eyes. The staff is wonderful. The main waitress even boxes up your food for you at the end of your meal if you want to take home your leftovers. The restaurant is incredibly clean and so are the bathrooms. Went to Misoya tonight at around 6:30pm for a date night. Have been here many times and needless to say this will be the last time. After sitting down the waitress didn't greet or acknowledge us and instead wiped the table and walked away. This is something we have experienced almost every time we have came in so the lack of friendliness wasn't a surprise. She returned with menus and walked away again without saying anything. My boyfriend and I were talking and catching up on our day for a couple minutes. Then the waitress comes back and asks us "how many?" which confused us... how many of what? We assumed she was talking about people in our group so we said "two", then she flips the menus around, opens them up and says in the most condescending and rude tone, "These are menus...okay...ready?" as if to say we needed to stop conversating and order as soon as possible. Mind you we literally had been sitting at the table for no more than 4 minutes. After that we got up and left. The one star is not based on this experience alone. Every time we go in the owner is unfriendly and snarky. Misoya has the worst service I have experienced in the Rogue Valley. Why did we keep coming back? The sushi is very good. But we will not return to this establishment again, the sushi is not worth the poor treatment. (After we left tonight we took a short stroll to Shiki Sushi Bar and Thai Restaurant where we had friendly service and a delicious meal! Would highly recommend.) read more
