The food is good but the service is bad. There aren't many options for Vietnamese in this region, but this place is just about as good as any other I've been to in other areas (NYC metro, DC, Philly). I have been visiting this place occasionally for years and, although the food is still good, overall it's not quite as good as it used to be. The prices have gone up slightly over time, which isn't surprising, but it's kind of cheap when you get a big bowl of pho and you just get one little slice of lime. The waitress never came back to any of the tables once she bought out their food. She just sat at a table, relaxing, eating and chatting with her co-worker. We had nothing to drink and a bunch of dirty plates sitting on our table the whole time. It wasn't even busy, but the waitress showed no interest in helping the customers. Great ambiance for a strip mall -- I'm embarrassed to admit that I've driven by here at least a hundred times before trying it out, and I love pho. We will be back. That place used to be a 5 stars (in my opinion), but lately disappointing service had me re-think their rating. This restaurant is located in a plaza mall in Wappingers Falls. The place is clean and well lit. Seating arrangements can be a bit confusing. Sometimes I am escorted to a table, other times, I am told from across the room to pick any table. At my last visit, the restaurant was very busy and seemed understaffed. Upon entering the restaurant, we waited for a few before we asked on of the waiters if we could sit at a table. After seating he brought us a menu. Then, we waited and waited and waited to have someone come over to take our order. All the staff was busy cleaning tables and serving other patrons. My boyfriend had to stare at the lady at the counter for a few minutes for her to come over to take our order. When the food came out, maybe because we have been waiting for close to 40 minutes, it tasted just OK. We paid quickly and exited the restaurant. A few other patrons were waiting as long as we waited to get service as well. The family seating next to us, after waiting for more than 10 minutes to get an order had to stop a waiter to ask if they could place their other. Another patron, maybe because she was used to the rhythm at the restaurant, as soon she sat down and they handed her the menu, she asked the waiter to stay because she already knew what she wanted. Another family as soon as they walked in had the attention of the whole staff; maybe they are regular. This restaurant used to have better service, I wish they continued with that trend. read more

The takeout Pho is exactly what I needed. Full of flavor, huge portion, and all the accoutrements. The General Tso chicken was a surprise because it wasn't breaded - it was excellently flavored pieces of tender chicken breast. I asked for spicy, got it. Also had a futomaki and that was good. Vietnamese food has flavors quite different to what the American palette is familiar with. That said, this is good. One in our party happened to see the kitchen staff prepare a dish that looked interesting and asked about it. The chef said it wasn't on the menu as she didn't think people would like it. It was just something she made for herself. Our friend asked for a serving which she brought. It was quite possibly the best Vietnamese dish I'd ever had. It was hard boiled eggs wrapped very thin slices of pork cooked in a spicy coconut base. There was a nice layering of flavors and textures, with the perfect amount of hot spice. I like food spicy so this was just enough kick for me. I loved it. We had a beef pho which was really tasty but on the oily side. Beef vermicelli topped with cucumbers, carrots, daikon, cilantro, Thai basil, mint and peanuts. No heat and real good. Loved the Thai egg rolls. read more

We ordered Bun Bo Hue and Rice Vermicelli with Beef and Egg rolls. Both were great but the noodles were stand out and really encourage anyone who hasn't tried this dish to get it. I could probably be satisfied with the pho ga every time I come here, though I suppose I should explore the menu more. I'm not a pho expert, but It compares very favorably for me to pho I've had at Vietnamese restaurants in NYC and Boston, and in many cases better. The chicken was very tender. The pho had a strong flavor, but also numerous condiments at the table if you want more. I suspect the amount of "fixings" you get may vary based on availability. Today I got a large amount of bean sprouts and freshly sliced jalapenos. But the leaves were neither Thai basil nor mint today, they were something with which I was not familiar. The price was reasonable too. A pitcher of tea - easily enough for 3 - was steeped well, but the cups you get are very small. I had to refill every 2 sips. The decor is simple, bright, and welcoming. It's not Chinatown, but it's definitely good enough to get me to come back often. read more

I had been driving by the sign for pho for ages, and only just decided to try it after a shopping trip to Kohl's. The waitress/owner (?) told me they were new management, there about three months. The place is cute and bright, but, when I went in at 4 pm on a FRI, empty. I'm not the most adventurous when it comes to Vietnamese food, tending to order the same things I've always liked. I ordered mini shrimp spring rolls and a bowl of pho with thin-sliced beef. I was looking for the spring rolls I've had at Pho Bang in Chinatown, bigger ones that you wrap in lettuce (they might have been on the menu and I just missed them, not knowing what they're actually called?). These were tiny little snips--10 to an order--very fresh. I ate them all. Then I had the pho. It came with all the right accessories, though i would have loved even more basil. The broth was fragrant and rich. It was such a large portion that I ended up taking more than half of it home. I was thrilled to find good Vietnamese food nearby--and not have to go into Manhattan for it. I want to tell all my friends, and keep going back so they for sure stay open. read more

Went for lunch today and was excited to try this place. The server was a young girl. She took our order and after 10 minutes we got two half filled glasses of water. Then our appetizer came with my pho noodles. My wife's order and our drinks were no where in sight. I finally got the attention of the girl and she mentioned only one person was making drinks, no one else was ordered drinks, they were leaving. Then the bus boy was seen cleaning the counter with 409 cleanser and when my wife's order came he used his finger to spread her rice over her plate. Went recently, it appears they changed their name from pho max to saigon pho which may confuse ppl since there is a saigon pho similar restaurant in arlington section of poughkeepsie (which i prefer over this location) so we went again this year and was not as impressed as the first time. Last time i was able to choose a small size pho, this time was only one size, large. My hubby got a pho with various beefs in it and said it was mostly fat and gizzard type pieces instead of chunks of beef. I got a pho brisket type beef and it was fatty but the beef amount was ok (im not a big beef eater anyway) but the biggest turn off was the sad looking veggies. The first time we went the veggies were full of life this time they were wilted with brown spots and the sprouts looked soft instead of firm and bright. So for the inconsistency i have to downgrade from 4 stars to 3. Very disappointed. read more

I have been religiously eating Pho for years living outside of D.C. and I was extremely excited when I saw this new Pho place "coming soon". Sincerely, I wanted this to be my new favorite place before I walked in. Then I walked in. First, there was a faint smell of wet... it's hard to describe, like there was a leak in the ceiling during a storm and everyone has just chosen to ignore it for the coming weeks. I was pleased to see everything I wanted on the menu and I assured myself that I would be able to order out next time and it would never be an issue. Placing my order was a little difficult as the staff was ONLY interested in her phone as we sat there for more than 10 minutes without even being asked if we would wanted drinks. When she recognized her error, she came over and apologized and we ordered and very very quickly received our Summer rolls. I would have preferred a little more flavor, but it was acceptable. The Pho came only a moment after we finished the rolls and I had started to regain faith. Now, when I say this I want it to be clear that I was still routing for them. After enjoying the Pho for about 90 seconds, my wife pulled out a slice of beef that was green. Not a little green, very very green. I was in complete shock and started to imagine that they must have rubbed the meat down with a mint paste because the very obvious color could not have been overlooked when it was put into the dish. With all the composure I could manage, I approached the woman at the front and supplied the foul piece and asked for any posible explanation. She looked only disappointed and walk to the back. A server then explained that she didn't speak english but he wouldn't look at the meat, the second server corrected him and said she could speak english. After 90 seconds I knew I had to leave. My only regret is that I didn't insist that the the other 4 people eating there also leave immediately. I sincerely hope that people will read this and understand the gross neglect and danger we were put in by putting green meat in a Pho soup that we could have easily eaten for 10 minutes without it coming to our attention. Thank God for Saigon Pho! This place is the real deal; If you have a craving for authentic Vietnamese, you won't leave here disappointed. On my visit here I got the Banh Mi, Pho, Vietnamese Coffee, and Three Bean Dessert. It was all wonderful! To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from a restaurant found in the Dutchess Plaza, but boy was I wrong. Whoever is in the kitchen knows EXACTLY what they are doing. The interior sets a nice backdrop to the food, it is clean and modern looking. I believe they just recently did renovations so the place itself gives off a 'brand new' vibe. I'll certainly be coming back here soon with some friends so they can experience some delicious, well done Viet cuisine. read more

Just moved up here from Manhattan so I was happy to spot Pho Max. They are still working off of a limited menu so no Banh Mi's yet. The spring rolls were not very crispy. The grilled pork chop and pho are good; not great but good. The pho broth is a bit toned down from what I am used to and like a previous reviewed mentioned not as hot as I would like so, minus one star. (My assumption is that they are catering to the populace as well). The iced coffee over SWEETENED condensed milk is nice and strong. Yup, soda is FREE. While there, a lady actually walked in, went straight for the soda and left without ordering anything... really? Couldn't at least offer to pay for the soda or act the least bit interested in the menu? A bit messed up IMO... perhaps Pho Max should have free soda for customers only so people do not take advantage. Overall, decent establishment and would come back; satisfies my pho craving :) Am waiting to give their Banh Mi's a try once it is available! read more

Being a Vietnamese gal who lived in the Viet Food capital of the Western Hemisphere (Houston, TX) for 10 years, I was THRILLED to discover a Viet restuarant in Dutchess County. Pho Max is as good as it will get in Wappingers, folks. This is the real deal. The pho broth is slurp-worthy. Spring rolls are yummy. The Che dessert is to-die! I didn't give it 5 stars because of the high price and bad service. Price is way too high for vietnamese food. And the service is awful, but what do you expect from an Asian restuarant.
