Went in to have my car check for Uber, it's was just a simple check list which they said they would charge 52.50 for. Not a big deal, 2 hours later I'm paying 110 because they took my door panel off without saying they'd charge extra and on top of that they failed me because of a reverse light which is not required on the inspection. We had to pay over $180 just for diagnostics! Even though they called us back the next day to tell us that their diagnostic wasn't working properly and over estimated the work needed to be done! They asked us if we wanted to come back in and give us another diagnostic for free! "HELL NO" Their estimates are priced over the roof! It seems that they mark up everything! Two things could be going on. I went to one place and there was a least 4 things I'd have to fix on my car costing possibly thousands. I went here and was outwardly concerned with money having spent too much already this month and he called me and just did an inspection and tightened my terrible squealing belt which was suppose to cost $800. OMG they want to charge $500 for a fuel pump that I can buy on Amazon for $63.00. they would not install if I purchased from someone else. Complete ripoff. BEWARE. Just an update. I went to another shop in San Marcos. They charged $68.00 for the part and 3 hours labor for a total of $368 plus tax. Works beautifully. There are many bad reviews for Mission Auto Care. I have taken my car here for several years now because they are so freaking honest and do an amazing job! I cannot say enough about this auto shop. I've literally taken my car to one of those gouge-your-wallet kinds of establishments where I allegedly needed $600 worth of repairs, only to come here for a second opinion and end up paying $35. They are the best of the best, I tell you. I have been bringing vehicles here for the better part if 8 years. Pepe and the staff have always tried to help with advice. I once changed the brakes on my car and did not attach the caliber correctly. It ended up burning thru the rims. Instead of charging me an excessive amount they helped me solve the problem. I did have to listen to his speech about doing the work my self but gladly paid that penance for their help. I will never trust this shop again. Took a Jeep Liberty here for a pre-purchase inspection to determine any possible issues before buying it (since it was used and with 170k miles on it). First of all, it cost $100. Right down the road it could have been done for only $60, but unfortunately Mission Auto Care was one of the only places not super busy at the time, so I had to take it here for that reason. Secondly, and most importantly- they found a "small leak" in the power steering. However, he couldn't tell me where it was actually leaking from unless I paid another $40 for a power steering inspection... Seriously?! So I asked how much it might cost- not knowing where it was, he said it might be as low as $300, could be as high as $600 if it was bad. So I bought the Jeep for $700 under asking price. Power steering issue = no big deal... I thought! A week later I took it to Midas simply for a $30 oil change, after which they were able to tell me exactly what was going on with the car (leaks in both the power steering pump and rack and pinion). They then quoted me $1500 for parts and labor.... I wouldn't have even bought the car if I new this beforehand! I thought that is the reason for a pre-purchase inspection?! You mean to tell me that Mission Auto Care gave me a range of a MAX of $600 for something they couldn't even give me specifics on unless I paid the $100 plus an additional $40? Yet Midas new more than them after a simple, cheap oil change?! WORST SHOP I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! I wish I could vote zero or negative stars... read more

I was headed on a road trip vacation and my car tire had a huge, very obvious nail in it. The tire pressure was half what it was supposed to be. This shop was the closest so I stopped by. They repaired the car tire in less than 10 minutes- at NO Charge!! I was on my vacation road trip without any delay or cost. It's been three weeks and my tire is still good as new. read more

I didn't get the guys name that help me but he took my info and offered to give it to the business for me so I didn't have to sit for another 20-40 minutes waiting for them to open. I needed a stock air intake system so I could pass smog and the price for the part at the dealership was outrageous so they were able to find the part much cheaper and had it shipped from another state! I have to say I heard good things about this place but twice I have been swindled... a few months ago I went in to have specifically my front brakes done... when they called me to pick up my vehicle, they said " they went ahead and had my rear rotors resurfaced... a service I didn't ask for... today I went in to have my spark plugs changed and was charge 2 hrs of labor! Pepe and his gang at Mission Auto Care really take care of their customers. And Pepe is this: the last honest auto mechanic! He never upsells or "finds" anything wrong with your care that really isn't. True story: I took my car in and he gave me an estimate of close to $1,000. I approved it and he called me back a few hours later and told me that it was a totally different problem then he originally thought and that it was actually a really minor repair now. I go to pick up my car, and was charged ZERO. That's right, nothing. He explained to me that he looked at the part in questions and realized it was okay, so he could not change it. Than he fixed the problem. For free. Now granted, I am a long time customer and I wouldn't go in there thinking you're going to get stuff for free. But this is just a really nice example of the honesty and integrity this man applies to his business. Most places/mechanics would've fixed the small problem AND still replaced the expensive part, because they got the go ahead on the more expensive quote. Went there for a simple smog check, stood in the lobby like as ass for about 15 minutes as Pepe and his mechanics walked in and out without ever even getting attention. When Pepe finally asked me what I wanted, I replied I was referred to him for smog test. His first response was I must not have any money if I was referred to him. I should of left rite then but decided to have it done since I was there. Over an hour later was handed paperwork with a fail and an attitude. He did mention needed a cat and possible plug wires. Wires were recently replaced so I had the original cat replaced, brought it back, paid again and failed again. Was told that's what I get for thinking I could fix it myself and that he could diagnos it for 100 bucks. Dude don't know who is talking too. Only reason I went there is my normal guy was out of town and I wanted it done that day. Decided to wait for my normal smog shop to open the following Monday. Took my van there and it passed as it should of without any additional work. I think he just wanted more cash and expected I was a dumb ass. I Will spread the word of a bad experience to a whole lot of people. Being in the disk jockey business over 30 years should be no problem spreading the word. Moral of the story. Never judge a person. I've worked on vehicles for many years too, I know a lot of people. unfortunately I don't own a smog machine or I would not of came to you mr Pepe. I needed service on my car so went into Mission Auto Care on the advice of AAMCO who could not take me in on short notice. When we walked in, the serviceman Pepe was in the back room eating lunch and came out with his plate, sat down at the desk and asked what we needed. I said my check engine light was on and immediately he told me it would be $98.00 to look at the car. He asked what type and year my car was to which I replied, Mercedes 2008. My husband asked him if he had worked on Mercedes before, he answered that if we had the money, he would work on it. My husband asked again if he had worked on that type of car. He got irate and told us to go away. I have honestly never been treated like that before. They obviously don't want our business and, based on his lack of customer service, nobody's business. Got ripped off for the price of a basic oil change - over $50! They charged $15 labor to change the oil and check fluids. I've never been to a place that charged a labor fee to check the fluids especially when I didn't ask them to!! Additionally, I was told my battery was bad when in fact it's perfectly fine. They tried to sell me a $127 battery when I didn't need one. This is not the first time I have been unsatisfied with their service. I don't trust them and I will never go back! read more

I'm a person who normally always works on my own car, but there can be a select few things that I just don't have time to do or can't figure out. Don't trust many people to touch my car and Pepe is one of the few I ever trust. Pepe is always helpful and can figure anything out on a car, no matter what it is and fix it. He will even try to find ways to save you money if he can. He may not be the cheapest in town or the most courteous, nor can he always take you in immediately, but you get what you pay for. If you are friendly to him, he's friendly to you. He is a joking kind of guy that doesn't take any shit. He's almost always over packed and has many cars to take care of, so if you need any service, you'll usually need to wait or make an appointment. If you go to Pepe being an ass or questioning his skills, he don't take it. It's not like he really needs your business because I know he gets plenty. Just like any of us who've done things for years and somebody questions us. I've gone to him plenty of times with no problems. I'm a friendly person and know how cars work and he knows his stuff, no matter what it is. Anytime that he can get to you here, it is quick and he'll have it done right. read more

If I cud give no stars I would I have no idea why all the other reviews are so great everything there was horrible brought my ford there after it seized and they told me the timing belt broke and they cud handle and be done by afternoon 2 days later it was finished I had to keeping going in for updates on my truck they couldn't even call me about anything every time I asked about the truck "pepe" said idk what's wrong it's kicking my butt that's great to hear from a so called mechanic who doesn't know how to be a mechanic once i got my truck they had me pay and said bye no answers to problems or solutions to how'd they fixed it ...got my keys and sat down in my truck then noticed pepe and two workers leaning back staring at me jus waiting for me to start it to see what happens ...it started then they kept staring as I pulled out got a mile down the road and check engine light turns on and my truck proceeds to diesel and sputter and die while idling oh and they charged me for coolant and my coolant was bone dry they never even filled it up !! I can not say enough wonderful things about Pepe and his crew. I was in Oceanside in May visiting my son on base and I had an issue with my car. As I sat in the hotel room I Googled auto repair shops and called a few after talking to a couple mechanic I kept searching. Then I called Mission Auto Care and I knew I hit a jackpot just by talking to Pepe on the phone. I rushed down and they took care of my car immediately and I was on my way back to visiting my son. Fast forward to this week. My son purchased my dad's truck from him here in Northern California. He drove down to Oceanside with no problems until the next day the truck got stuck in 5th gear. You see my dad just recently passed away so we had no way of knowing if this was an existing issue or a new issue but what I did know without a doubt where I was taking it in for repair. Sure enough had the truck towed there and VIOLA fixed and back on the road. Victor was the mechanic on the truck repair and I believe on my car repair also. Love love this place. Highly recommend having your car repaired here. I belong to a Facebook group for moms of Marines at Camp Pendleton and I just added Mission Auto Care as the 'GO TO' auto repair shop if a Marine needs a repair. read more
