Awesome BBQ! To give some context, I am from the South and have tasted some pretty great BBQ!! This was the best BBQ I have had in the MD area - so much so that I went twice in a 3-day time span. I had the pulled pork sandwich and baked beans, both times. The pulled pork is what was memorable. I have since told at least three or four people to try this place. Both times that I have gone, there was not a long line, but I was told to avoid rush hour by a friend. So for me, the service was great each time and super quick. Although I'm giving it 4 stars it's not a 4 star restaurant in the classic sense. You walk in but no one greets you or escorts you to your table. You just seat yourself at an open table. This was rather challenging because I had to secure our booth while the others got in line to place their orders and carry their trays back. Not a very convenient arrangement but it does obviate the requisite tip. The porters were attentive and quick to clear tables and a staffer circulated with a sampler tray which consisted of a sliced rib eye. Tasty. The food is terrific. I had the sausage and most tender ribs. Perfectly seasoned and just the right portion size. The macaroni and cheese was not to my liking. Too watery. I prefer mine thoroughly baked dry, not the gooey stove top variety. The coleslaw was alright and the cornbread was a precise combination of crisp crunchy exterior and moist flavorful interior. I did sample the moist brisket and it was the best thing I've tasted in a very long time. I recommend it highly. I'm sorry I missed out. Can't wait to go back to select it as my entrée. read more

Mission BBQ rivals even the best BBQ restaurants I've visited! The brisket is my favorite, but all their meats are delicious, and the sides could be meal in and of themselves! The mac'n'cheese is my favorite, for sure, but the cheesy potatoes, green beans, and french fries are also delish! I love the variety of sauces, from sweet to vinegar-y, mild to hot. Order at the counter (the staff is always friendly), and your food is ready in just a few minutes (at a great price). And if you're particularly patriotic, dine at noon to join in on the singing of the national anthem. Mission is always full of veterans and law enforcement officers and their families. It's a great little slice of Americana! (As you'd expect of a BBQ joint, Mission is not at all friendly to vegetarians. Even the veg dishes are cooked with some sort of meat product.) read more

Go for the pulled pork - it is moist, yet doesn't have any fat or gristle. I think it is especially tasty with the Memphis Belle sauce. For sides, I recommend their coleslaw and corn bread. Simply put, it's the best BBQ you're going to find anywhere in the area. Everyone will find a sauce that calls to them, their service is friendly and fast, and the food is anywhere from healthy (a little bit of BBQ with a salad) to full-on heart attack. We walked in and nearly walked right back out because the line was at the door already, but in that instant a serving tray with samples appeared and...well, jalapeno cheddar sausage. Hands down best BBQ in the area. Staff was super attentive and knew the menu inside and out. Sweet tea brought me back home to central Florida. The moist brisket was to die for. Yum! Put the smoky mountain sauce on the pulled pork. Just do it. I dare you not to like it. I got a hefty sandwich with a side of mac n cheese which was pretty good- nothing fantastic but definitely homemade so thumbs up for that! Ohh yeah....its as great as the reviews say it is. Tried this yesterday and my hub and I were ohhhing and ahhing with delight and approval. We got takeout and were going crazy in the car in anticipation. The smell of the food was so inviting that we could not wait to get home and rip into the bag of deliciousness. We ordered a three meat sampler ( ribs, brisket, pulled pork) and A rack of ribs with Mac and cheese. The meat was moist, tasty, and well prepared. The ribs fell off the bone and the meat perfectly cooked. My hubby had the small order of mac and cheese ( I am not really a fan)...he took a fork full, placed his fork down and let out a sigh of utter satisfaction. I had to try it and once I did, I understood why he reacted as such. Basically, the food is awesome and the service was good too....we will most definately be repeat customers. I love this place! The staff are always super friendly and helpful. The food is phenomenal. You MUST GET THE MAC and CHEESE. If you don't get anything else,get that. I've had pretty much everything on the menu, and it's all been tasty. My husband and I actually used a different Mission location for our wedding (people LOVED the food). My favorites are definitely the mac and cheese and the pulled pork. I love that they have all the sauces on the table so you can sample them all. Loved everything about this place. Traveled to Columbia on a mini road trip with the fiancé, who was representing a client at an ad sep board at Fort Meade for the day. Both of us were massively hungry by the time it wrapped, so we knew that BBQ was the way to roll for dinner (plus, we're both in the middle of doing a Whole30, so meat options in all forms are a win). Ironically, we saw Mission BBQ on the way back to the hotel from the Famous Dave's we ate at the night before, and wanted to try something new (side note before you judge us: the area of PA in which we reside is a bit of a BBQ desert, so when we travel to an area with copious slow-cooked meat options, we take full advantage). First nice touch: the Wounded Warrior Project parking space closest to the restaurant. Though a small gesture to some, this was a big one for us. To all the men and women who serve, this extra designation from being a handicapped space was thoughtful and in good taste. Helped to set the tone for the rest of our positive dining experience. This was our first time visiting a Mission BBQ, and while we expected a sit-down establishment, we were surprised to see a counter-style setup. We walked to the nearest friendly cashier, who asked if it was our first time in, and then kindly walked us through the menu options as a result. We both ended up with meat combo platters - mine, pulled pork and lean brisket; babe's with moist brisket, pork, and sausage - green beans and bacon the side for both of us. Food was up in under five minutes. They call you by name (nice touch!), and our platters were served up by a great guy named Mark, who asked how it was our first time in? I explained we were from BBQ-deficient PA, and he replied that there was a Mission close to us in York!! Best news of the day - we will definitely be making some follow up visits to that location soon. But the true test: how did it taste...? Heaven on a plate. My lean brisket was moist and full of flavor; pork was excellent with just the right amount of juicy fat clinging to the shreds; the beans had the perfect balance of texture and smoky richness. The other win was that the meats were able to stand on their own and weren't masked in any type of sauce, an excellent detail for those, like us, who can't have any added sugar on modified diets. We instead relied upon their Carolina vinegar sauce to up the flavor ante, and were very impressed. Shout out to Becca, the manager who came over to answer my copious questions about the spices in that sauce, and even gave us a printout of Mission locations closest to us in PA. Everyone working tonight was just super friendly, helpful, and on-point. It's great when you find a new place that not only exceeds your expectations on the food, but the people who work there as well. Five stars - Mission, you've won yourself some die-hard fans! 4.5 rounding up (compared to other bbq places around the area) we came on a thursday evening pretty late, around 9pm, and it was empty, perfect for us!!! we got our food really quickly and situated outside. the restaurant itself was clean and the staff friendly. the reason why we chose outside was because 1) it was a beautiful night 2) the restaurant kinda echos.. especially when empty i guess. regardless, i had 3 different bbqs within 4 days and this was by far my favorite (promise i'm not a bbq glutton, i just happen to have friends who all wanted bbq around the same time! although, maybe i am because i enjoyed it every time and did not get sick of it!) we ordered the maryland babyback ribs (5 ribs), brisket, and 2 sides mac n cheese (i just have to every time, it's my selfish thing since the bf doesn't like mac n cheese.. i just can't not try it!) and green beans. the entrees came with cornbread a piece, which i really enjoyed! i like ma corn bread to have a bit of corn in it ;). the sides were good (portion size was on the small side), but nothing to rave about. the meat was done well, tender, subtly (but perfectly) flavorful, moist, and perfectly cooked, not overcooked (not to the point where you can't pick it up like some places). i've only been to this one mission bbq so i do not know how the franchise itself is like, but i definitely enjoyed it! but next time, we're getting more food as the bf walked out still a bit hungry and they were closed by the time we were done eating =( mission bbq in my opinion plays on the meat's original flavor and allows the consumer the option of dousing it with 7 different sauces (as previously described by other reviewers). We stopped on our way to a show at merriweather. We're both from the south and have experienced a lot bbq. This was sooooo good. Honestly I've been craving this since we had it, unfortunately it's a bit far from Herndon. My boyfriend and I split a market sampler (3 meats) with a side of mac and cheese and green beans. They are people who care about food and country. If you aren't into BBQ at least you can appreciate that hey actively support our troops. The pulled pork and brisket are the most popular items. The brisket is full of natural flavor and the pork is super tender. Pretty much all the sides are good. My favorite side is the green beans, they are really flavorful and have bacon it it - who doesn't love bacon! If you are a sauce person, you've come to the right place. My go to place for BBQ! Great food and great service, all at a reasonable cost. I've tried the salmon, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and beef brisket---and all are delicious! Try the Alabama white sauce with the salmon (you have to ask for it). There's a variety of BBQ sauces to satisfy your taste. However, everything is delicious without any sauce. I have visited numerous Mission BBQ locations and by far the best one has been the Hagerstown store. The food is excellent just like all the other stores but Hagerstown's staff are the best. On my most recent visit my host Hailey was very polite, professional and was everything that I have come to expect from this store. Her positive attitude and kindness warmed the whole restaurant. All the staff there that day 2/28/2022 were wonderful. I have spoken to the managers at this store on several occasions and can understand why the staff are so great. The managers at this store actually care about their customers and employees. They are wonderful people and it shows through their employees. Grand opening on Bastille Day (July 14, 2014). Tried the NC Pulled Pork with Slaw since I'm from NC and grew up on it. Not even close. Lean, smoky and good but far from NC BBQ. Sampled brisket, both dry and moist. Too salty for me. Sauces were too similar, and my overall is a mix of Tenn, St. Louis and Texas. Will try again though. Huge staff, all really nice. They were sold out of Turkey so wife ate nothing. The female GM brought us samples and gave her a free sandwich coupon at our table and said no excuses. It's funny that they are located in the same shopping center as Famous Daves, however after having had both I think Mission is the clear winner. As a Kansas City girl I have very high standards for BBQ and tend to be rather picky. There are a lot of places I simply won't return to. Mission BBQ is a place worth returning to. I have tried: brisket, pork, sausage and chicken. I say go with the pulled pork and you can't go wrong. As for sides I like their Mac and cheese and green beans. The corn bread is okay, not something I would go out of my way to order. In regards to sauces they have 6 different varieties and I would say this is where I may have some qualms. But it might just be my picky BBQ taste. There is only one that I like or would use I think it is the smoky one. A solid barbecue place. The good: The meat was exceptionally good, very moist not even slightly chewy. The sauces are very well balanced and really make up a great sandwich. The bad: Expensive. $7.99 buys you a brisket sandwich and that's it. Side+drink will set you back at least $11. The bread is nothing to write home, just a standard BBQ roll. A BBQ sandwich is supposed to be the cheap-fast-eat-at-lunch item. Instead it is a little on the expensive side and certainly not fast, even discounting the massive line (I've been there at 4pm no line and it still took about 10-15 min to get the food, maybe just integration details, who knows). And I echo the sentiment of another reviewer that I am always suspicious of businesses who so openly support veterans and showcase that stance all over their walls. There are few things in this country that attract widespread support from all political bases and the "Support the Veterans" is one of them. I might be wrong but that's what my gut tells me. Want to support the Veterans? Sure, have the Warrior cup and donate the proceeds but don't have every single wall with soldier pictures, messages like "We support the Wounded Warrior project" or a BBQ truck resembling a military vehicle with American flags. True philanthropy is not placed in the spotlight and certainly not at a business site. All in all a good place to visit, but it won't make it to my regular lunch spots list. read more
