Mission BBQ (Coliseum Blvd) - another solid BBQ choice in Fort Wayne Mission BBQ is one of the franchise BBQ choices in Fort Wayne in addition to several outstanding local places. Mission can be found on west Coliseum Blvd just west of Olive Garden. It's a little tricky to find drive to get into the large parking lot. There is lots of parking as this large store which accommodates many customers. Seating for large parties together may be difficult here. As you enter you make it to the cash register where you place and pick up your order. The menu is posted on a large board above the front counter. Mission has a large selection (see picture) of different meats and sides. Most items are ala carte unless you get a combo meal. I would suggest that their prices are comparable to those at other local BBQ places. Every entree comes with freshly baked corn bread. The decent size piece is moist and has a slightly sweet flavor. The luke warm bread is more cake like than a traditional corn meal taste. A pat of pre-packaged butter is also provided. This makes a nice complement to the coming meat. Mission provides six different BBQ sauces at the table (see pictures). They also provide vinegar and a more mustard based sauce. I tried three of these sauces. All had a nice flavor for you to consider. Here is a brief description of the different food items we had: -Smoked Chicken: very moist and tender, so tender that the meat literally fell off the bones; skin was nicely coated with a mild BBQ rub - only a slight amount of salt & spicy aftertaste; nice mild Smokey flavoring -Smoked Turkey: also very moist and tender; slight Smokey flavors -French Fries: nice thinly cut fry; coated with a heavy-salty BBQ rub; nicely crispy without being oily; definite bold BBQ rub flavoring -Baked Beans: much like you would expect, moderate sized bean bathed in a smooth BBQ sauce; BBQ sauce is slightly sweet with a mild BBQ taste - no after spice kick; small pieces of brisket added for extra enjoyment; very good side! -Cole Slaw: lite mayo base; two different cabbages plus carrot pieces; sesame seeds added to give it a nice mild-mayo taste Overall...Mission does a nice job of providing freshly made BBQ. The team was very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was clean and spacious. This is a challenge for a self seating area that has lots of customers. I tried a variety of the sauces and thought a few were pretty good, the others just weren't for me. I think your mileage and experience here will vary greatly based on your preferences. Went to this bbq place for a birthday party recently. It was clean and well decorated. The long wait was a problem.it was lunch time. My portion of smoked salmon was very small and tasted fishy! Not a good sign! My corn bread was dry but tasty. Those of us who had ribs reported that they were good. When I walked up I saw that they had reserved parking for veterans which I thought was pretty nice. They clearly are very into anyone who serves in the military, police and fire departments. This is pretty apparent in the restaurant décor - lots of uniform memorabilia and the like. I couldn't tell if they were all local heroes or just canned material that their corporate sent them to decorate with. The music is kind of loud and country, which is not my jam, so I did not intend to linger. The seating is very industrial looking, not too bad comfort wise. Most of the people that were there eating lunch were middle aged to older white guys, I was I think the only lady there dining so I felt kind of uncomfortable in that sense, but not threatened. Ordering at the counter was easy, and they were very helpful and even let me sample anything I wanted to before I bought it - which is really nice since the prices are a bit steep. A sandwich is about $9-$11, which is a bit expensive considering the price does not include a side by default. Sides are around $2.50 per portion. I was bummed to find out after I had paid that this is a Pepsi establishment - I would have just gotten a water had I known. They do have Dr. Pepper though so I'll let it slide. They have a large assortment of sides you'd expect at a barbecue joint. I tried the green beans with bacon and they were really good but they were also VERY salty and maybe had some sort of sugar in them too. I'd say that is a common theme for most of the food I got. My chicken was salty, but moist and tasty. I wouldn't get the sandwich version again - the bun fell apart because it was too soft and also it tasted like they put butter on it. They have 6 different style sauces on the table and they are all good. No super spicy sauces, some are pretty sweet, and some are nice and tangy. They also have vinegar on the table I assume for fries. They threw in a blueberry cobbler for free since it was my first time there. It was served nice and hot, good texture and flavor although way too sweet for my liking. If they could cut it with some cream or just used less sugar I think that would have helped. I can tell they make everything fresh there - everything tasted good! I just wish they'd use less salt and sugar and turn down the country music a bit. read more

Well well well........ looka here..... they really brought BarBQ back. Our city has been missing a central spot, central as compared to other locations, for good BarBQ. This truly hits the spot. The ribs are seasoned well ( I can tell they use a good rub that is allowed to marinate) and fall off the bone tender. The pulled chicken was a good mix of of breast/ thigh meat. It had a good Smokey flavor, moist, and tender. The restaurant is easy to locate off the main thoroughfare and has plenty of parking. They seem to have a great staff of friendly folks. I thought this place was pretty solid! Prior to this place opening, we had always gotten our bbq from Lucille's. Lucille's bbq sauces and sides, blow Mission out of the water. But Mission is still a good option! I got the pulled pork sandwich and the Mac and cheese. My husband got the meat sampler with 3 meats. (Chicken, brisket, and jalapeño cheese sausage) The food came out quickly and the service was EXCELLENT!! They don't have microwaves or freezers. Which I think is awesome. If you get a beer, you get a koozie with it that you get to keep. The food: The Mac and cheese was just okay. But other than that, it was really good!!! The brisket was falling apart. And the chicken was so juicy and flavorful!! I could've drank a gallon of their sweet tea!! It was very good. They have several sauces on the tables to choose from. None of them really blew my socks off. But there seems to be one from every taste. The atmosphere: It was super awesome to see so many pictures of our local police officers and firefighters. Wow I'm disappointed that I have to post this one. Hopefully this is just a one off night for Mission. Ordered online when arriving I was told baby back wasn't available and I could get spare. Well I accepted and when I got home I was surprised. Pink pink pink undercooked and I threw in trash. Also ordered 2 orders of fries received just 1 order ‍. I'll attach pics please hide the kids. Expensive, tiny portions, no alcohol ( whoever heard of no beer for a BBQ??) and I didn't appreciate the very loud country music blaring. The company attire also features the racist trope "blue lives matter" which added another layer to my unhappiness. $2.79 for 7 cubes of potato in their salad. Great atmosphere with respect paid to veterans and service. Fast forward to our 3rd visit. The food was brisket was cold and the fries tasted old. Not impressed. Today we decided to try them again since we were very happy the first 2 visits. The food was cold and dried out. My husband told the cashier after only one bite and she said "oh sorry" with no empathy and walked away. We got to go containers and came home to heat it and try to put moisture back in it. First step inside, you can't help but notice all the pictures of our troops, cops, firefighters & EMS and the beautiful flag that is hanging from the rafters. What's not to like about this, already? The national anthem was played, and EVERYONE stopped and stood, it was glorious. During my dining experiece, the party next to me had a Vietnam Vet in their group, he was wearing a hat saying so, and I witnessed my waitress bring him a free dessert and thank him for his service. Hearing his surprise made my soul happy. Everything is sold a la carte, or for a fee you can make your choices a combo. At the time of my visit, I was asked if I wanted to buy a special cup for my soda, and it was a $2 upgrade but I can brink cup back for future visits and only pay 99 cents then. I almost always get the pulled pork, but the real magic is in the sides and all of the sauces. BBQ baked beans, coleslaw, cheesy potatoes, mac n' cheese - all of it is on-point. And it's always fun trying all of the different sauces, as they're all very unique from each other. And the cornbread! Speaking of which, the last time I was there, they had unfortunately sold out of corn bread, but one of the managers ended up giving me a free side instead - very nice gesture!
