We did takeout from mission bbq. Ordered both lean and regular brisket, ribs, sausage. Also had green beans, baked beans, corn bread. Total order $120. Staff at MB was friendly, helpful, but surprisingly there was no military discount (even Cracker Barrel offers a 10% discount!). I tried to offer the server a tip and she informed me, they cannot take tips. The restaurant was empty at 5 pm (one customer). Rating based on food quality, taste, (lean brisket was full of fat), cost. I would not return to the MB in Lynchburg. My family advised me to go to another bbq place but it was closed on Monday. First of all let me clarify that this place is decorated with a lot of police and fire badges and memorabilia. Police officers, firefighters, or anybody in the emergency life-saving career is likely to go in here and eat. So don't go if you got anxiety against cops, firefighters, and stuff. Now that that is out of the way let's get down to it. As far as the service goes, this is a place that you just walk up to the counter, order, and pay. This barbecue place has some excellent brisket. Of all of the barbecue sauces they offer, the Memphis barbecue sauce is the best one for me. It compliments the smokiness of the brisket. Drove today over 50 miles to eat at the Lynchburg location, just to find out it is closed, very mad and upset. I understand and support the reason why but don't understand why the restaurant was close in its entirety. Meals was catered out to another location. Everything was packed on a Friday evening while in town for a track meet so we ended up here. We were greeted warmly and the cashier was kind to us newcomers. I've never ordered brisket before but it caught my eye for some reason so I ordered it as a sandwich. I asked if the macaroni and cheese was good and was told emphatically "yes". So I got it. Details in a bit. There were no lids or straws which was a tad strange. You seat yourself and they call your name when your order is ready. And our food was prepared quickly. My "tray" looked good; the three slices of brisket were hanging off of the bun! It had a great smoky flavor, but it wasn't hot, just warm. Sauces are on the table. I chose the Tupelo which was more hot than sweet. The macaroni and cheese was 'meh. I can't say this impressed me much. I ordered a combo -- smoked brisket and two kinds of sausage -- and none of them were particularly good. The sausage was a bit dry and not very flavorful and the brisket (which I ordered "wet") was fatty even for "wet"" and not very smoky. read more

So many sauces! I love options and think I used all of them at least once. Pulled pork was solid. I tend to judge a BBQ restaurant on this and mission was spot on. The meat didn't need any sauce, the sauce was a compliment instead of a cover to poorly cooked pork. Only complaint is on portion size. Great atmosphere, quick service. Food was okay. I ordered the meat sampler with brisket and short ribs. My sides were collard greens and green beans. They have an good selection of sauces right at the table or you can opt for vinegar (also at the table). I chose the Tupelo Honey Heat, which was amazing! The first bite was heavenly and I was certain I would be writing a five-star review. However, as the meal went on, I noticed how salty the beans, brisket, and green beans were. I think someone got carried away with the salt shaker! It was probably the same person who made the lemonade, which was waaaaaaayyy to sweet and reminiscent of diabetes in a cup. I needed to add 40% water to make it just right. The texture of the brisket was almost optimal and though slightly overcooked, it was still tasty and moist. The short rib was mostly cooked well with the exception of one section that was overdone to the point it was burnt, dry, and unfit for consumption. My overall rating is more like 3.7/5. With a few small tweaks and the whole experience would have been 5/5. I would try this place again and hope for more moderation on the salt, time on the grill, and sugar in the lemonade. For now I will attribute this misstep to an overzealous cook and lemonade maker. read more

Absolutely INCREDIBLE staff!! Soo sweet!! They broke out in song and clapped when our table sang happy birthday to our son- they even brought him over a signed happy birthday placemat and gave him a gift brownie! They had no issues with us pulling together tables for our impromptu party of 20 people! The adults and kids crushed the food- definitely tasty (shrimp were a little over cooked ‍) and a couple of the dads thought meat portions were a little small... maybe it was the particular platter they ordered so if I could give a 4.9 I would! YeeHaw! I found myself some good BBQ in Lynchburg. The environment is fantastic. I also love how they openly show their support of Police, Fire, and Military alike with many amazing pictures and patches on the walls. Now on to the good stuff, the food. Here are the High's- Deuce and Half Smoking meat in the Parking Lot, wood smoke, every one of the sauces were very good, all the meats including Smoked Ribeye (see picture). Sides were good and a bonus is they support Military and first responders with patches from various police, military units displayed. Serviice was helpful. Low's- a little pricey. Visited for the 1st time. Had the fall off the bone baby back ribs, the chicken wings & cornbread. The ribs were so tender. You pick up the bone & the ribs fall right off. The flavor was so delicious! The wings were the best I've ever eaten. The seasoning on the wings were outstanding. You can order sauces on the side but you don't need them. The cornbread is slightly sweet & you can slightly taste the corn flavor. Best cornbread ever! It's like eating cake. The service is great; orders are placed very promptly.
