Had reservations for 4 on a Tuesday night. I called a couple times to change the time, then the # in our party and called back to change the date. Each time I spoke with a different staff member & they were friendly & helpful. Greeted & sat immediately upon arrival. Dining room is open & lots of great views of the waterfront. Not very busy on a Tuesday night. Waitress was friendly but seemed to be new to the service gig. Had to ask if there were any specials. She didn't come back to refill drink orders or check on us until well into our meal. Coffee took about 15 minutes to come out & she immediately walked away. We had to wait until we saw her again & ask for sugar. I personally cleared our appetizer plates when it was clear no one else was going to do it. We kept waiting for someone to clear our dinner dishes and again, no one came by. I cleared the plates and brought them to the bar. The bartender thanked me but she seemed mortified that I was bussing my own table. Shrimp cocktail appetizer was definitely not worth $17, in our opinion. 4 small NOT colossal & underchilled & overcooked shrimp. Clam Chowder was tasty but not a lot of clams. Mostly potatoes, a nice smokey bacon flavor and thick. Disappointing if you were expecting a lot of clams. I ordered the blackened Salmon & it was very good. My friend enjoyed the Carbonara. The two other meals were just okay. Shrimp Scampi & Char Siu. The kicker? We received the bill & noticed there was a $5.19 Supply Chain Fee added to our bill. We asked the server & she said it was because vendors can up there prices...like inflation. I nowsee it is noted online but not on their physical menus (that any of us saw). We all felt the courteous thing to do would have been to disclose this to us prior to us ordering. It's not the $5 that annoyed us. It was that it was presented at the end of our visit & never explained to us until we asked. I am upset because I chose Mission Boathouse for my husband & 2 dear friends to get together & try a new restaurant. And it turned out to be a bust. We all agreed we would choose a different restaurant next time. The four of us had a wonderful night but, sadly, the restaurant didn't contribute much to that. read more

Their food was excellent however the service was terrible. I was there for 2 hours and my waitress came over only twice. She came over to give water (and say she would bring us more and never did) and to take our food order. When given our food we weren't giving silverware or napkins and when we were done our food we sat waiting for 40 minutes to someone come over and give us our check. We had to go inside multiple times to the bar to ask for help and the bartenders were laughing and did nothing to help. Good food can't save bad service. read more

I really wanted this place to be as amazing as it should be... after all the chatter about the location (stealing public marina space!) and skimpy parking spots, I wanted it to be outstanding enough to make it worthwhile. Oh, no. It's SO loud that the din is obnoxious and constant, and rather than creating a convivial atmosphere, the music competing with the noise (*pop* music?!) made just another distraction to yell over. We went twice, hoping that the unimpressive food the first visit was a one time thing. Caesar salad with anchovies and grilled shrimp, the salad was passable but the dressing didn't seem right and the inappropriate anchovies were more of the pickled variety plopped on top in the center. Four medium sized shrimp were cool and flavorless, a bit tough. Second trip was the taco salad with added grilled shrimp (maybe the first shrimp were a fluke?) and there were five. So, commit to your skimpy small shrimp quantity at least or it's just inconsistent. But the salad itself, dear lord. The crispy tortilla bowl was ok, the fried avocado was fine, the rest of the bowl was filled with some vegetal heap of soggy lettuce bits mixed with corn, black olives, tomato chunks, and soaked (thoroughly!) in what seemed like a ketchupy sweet dressing... was it thousand island dressing? Disgusting. The only redeemable feature of this place is the staff, they're darn good. I would point out that if a guest leaves the majority of their food and doesn't want a box to take it home, it's fair to ask if they liked it... it keeps them from having to write a Yelp review. read more

I went to Mission Boathouse today and ordered from their $20 brunch menu. Great selections (about 15 different items) I hate to say but EVERYTHING came out cold to warm at best. EVERYTHING was obviously prepared beforehand. The waffles, French Toast, and English muffins were all too tough to cut. The poached eggs were cold. The Grilled Salmon had good flavor but room temperature. There were only 6 table from 11-1 so why they felt the need to over prepare is beyond me. We ordered from the waitress at the table. She put the order in the computer and the food came IMMEDIATELY to the table from a "Runner". The menu looks great! If they cook to order, I believe that they could fix their problem. I had high hopes for this place but right now it falls short. First, we were greeted by a semi grumpy teen boy who talked so low I couldn't hear him. The location is very nice. Service was good but could have been better. The food is mixed. My wife ate her chowder with a fork it was so thick. The flavor was good but wow...it was like gravy (it sticks to the spoon and doesn't pour). The main courses were good. The bill however was not; it was very pricey. I know they just opened so I hope the bugs get worked out. I won't be going back for at least six months for food. For now, I would say a great location for apps and drinks. read more

My husband and friend's husband LOVED the pork chop. My friend had the swordfish she was happy with. I decided to go with the chicken marsala. I wasn't a fan at all. The dish was very bland. The building is beautiful and I'm sure it will be a great place to sit on a hot summer night with the windows open with some friends. We ordered and were served pretty quickly, there was only one other party in the dining room probably because it was pouring rain outside on a Tuesday night. My order came and as the plate hit the table I picked up a french fry dipped in ketchup and popped it in my mouth. It was warm at best. That was a bad start because I think a french fry right from the kitchen should be almost too hot to eat. My dining partner ordered swordfish and it had the appearance of the freeze shrink-wrapped fish that you would get at a grocery store. That stuff can be good, and this tasted like that. It was OK, but living on the shore for the last 20 years I've had plenty of good seafood. Fresh seafood. It didn't say this was fresh so I can't fault them for that. The mashed potatoes that came with the swordfish was something I could've made it home, put in the refrigerator and reheated and had the next day. The consistency was a little pasty and the taste was mild. For the price that they're charging for the food it was not good. If I was at a pub 99 type of place. Then I would say this is what you get and be satisfied. The dining room and building itself look very fancy but we spent our meal listening to pop music piped in from the bar area, and watching the cooks who could've been three dudes off the street wearing different hats and casual clothes. Again the building makes it look like a fancy restaurant, the prices certainly make you feel like you are going to have a dining experience, but the rest of it seem like a façade. Like going to Disneyland and eating at those fancy looking restaurants that are just getting people in and out to eat. Don't get me wrong, we weren't rushed. Our server was friendly enough. We thought to ourselves afterwards that we would probably go back for chowder and salad on a hot summer night, something like that. Overall, Mission Boathouse is a poor showing of a management that looks as fanciful as their ambiance and instead is looking to spend their time and money into a restaurant product that vaguely resembles their sticky floors, low-substance management, and amalgamation of mysteriously-textured, bland food. And us the patrons have to wait a looooong time expecting something better to match price and ambiance, stirring our expensive time, money, and drinks until we're all frustrated and tired over it. --- It's a standard ambiance of an American dining restaurant on the water, met with incredibly shallow amounts of substance from the middling food quality, disservice, and questionable cleanliness. Comparable to a scenario in which a privately well-funded middle school runs a cafeteria with food quality and floor stickiness matching that of a hectic lunch rush & is staffed with their poorly-paid students to be disinterested cook- and wait- staff Service/Dining wait time: 0.5/5 We came in on for Sunday brunch with a reservation. We were seated there soon after, with a window seat looking out at the Beverly Harbor. Neat. The overall dining time was an hour and 45 minutes. In average terms of dining, that wouldn't be absolutely terrible if it weren't for the fact that the majority of the food didn't come until an hour in after we were seated. Looking at the cook and wait staff, we could only assume the food sitting at the pass was just for show as it sat there over the course of time. As the staff either paced back and forth or slowly shuffled through empty plates and silverware, we wondered if we were ever going to get the complimentary bread; that of which we had to ask our waitress for (45 minutes into sitting around and fiddling with our drinks), who sounded as if we had already received the bread and were only looking to get more out of them. If it wasn't for the oddly rushed pacing of the food coming out thereafter and the wait staff tossing the food on to our tables without even saying a word of what amalgamated blob they were serving, I would've thought this restaurant was actually run by uncoordinated, disinterested middle school students. Food Quality: 1/5 The food matches actual cafeteria food topped with a poached egg. If I asked you to differentiate between any number of their brunch dishes that had tasteless meats and vegetables topped with a poached egg sitting on some poorly crafted "tortilla" or English muffin, and then name what each dish actually was compared to their menu definitions, you'd probably do as good as anyone who had actuald blindfold on. They all taste the same: bland, watery, nonsense. It doesn't service the restaurant well, when the rest of the items were equally just as bad: chicken wings terribly overcooked, French toast actually just wet blobs, and some of the meat on the "tacos" burnt. The quantity (small portions, but unlimited) would've been fine if the wait time again wasn't considered but it is: food never came out till an hour into waiting at the table and, when it did, it came in oddly-paced, frustratingly slow intervals. Cleanliness: 0.5/5 Floor is sticky. I don't know why and I don't want to know why. I just don't want it to be sticky. The rest of the tables were left unkempt after the patrons had long left. This is strange since, at times, wait staff would occasionally come back at empty tables with no patrons to shuffle around excess silverware and plates. When we were first seated, we looked at our silverware to see residual watermarks left from wait staff not properly wiping down silverware before setting up tables. A pretty disappointing outlook, when you're considering that, on paper, the restaurant looks decent visually. Additional: I have no interest in discussing how restaurants pay their staff. If restaurants truly want to pay staff, restaurants should pay them better. Patrons shouldn't have to pay them directly if restaurants paid their staff well enough. That 3% additional tagline going towards staff that comes out of patrons dining at Mission Boathouse is a disgusting excuse for the restaurant or any other restaurant that does this for that matter to keep their own profits margins more net positive. read more
