Our family hosted a wedding reception at the Mission Boathouse in November 2025. Priscilla and her staff including bar staff went on and beyond with service that was incredible. The food especially steak tip entree was a big win served with an incredible Caesar salad & rosemary bread. The room itself was a shimmering light affect that made for a magical atmosphere due that the reception was at night. For anyone considering this venue for your special occasion, there is plenty space and a special feeling of perfection no matter if your event is a day or night event. I made a reservation, asking for a window seat for 6, birthday celebration for one of us. They asked me if I wanted the top floor for sushi and a smaller menu- yes! When we arrived, we were escorted to a round table next to the kitchen- where we sat for 15 minutes being ignored. A waitress hurried by to tell us that the restaurant was "behind " and she was trying to catch up, so we sat for 15 more min. Some of us started drinking an already opened bottle of water that was left behind on the table- yuk. I talked to the manager, was moved to a different location by a beautiful window and although sushi was not even offered, and the food was sub par at best- the view was great. I booked the 3rd floor of Mission Boathouse for a 150-person event for The Cabot Theater member community. Priscilla and her whole team were a dream to work with. They were organized, helpful, and communicative about options within our budget. The day of the event everyone was kind and a pro--the room looked great and they were willing to adapt the set up to meet our purposes. The food came out on time and was highly complimented. Among my favorite things from the experience was the french toast (with a stunning maple butter), the refreshing mimosas, and the service we received. This is not the first negative experience at Mission Boathouse but we were there on Thursday night and ended up leaving after our food still hadn't arrived after an hour. We were sitting at the bar and saw a total of 8 people through the course of the hour leave the bar as well as one family at a table leave. Just grossly understaffed and excusable. We had to yell out to the bartender if we needed another cocktail. I do importantly want to note that the bartenders were lovely and doing more than their best. It's a shame the restaurant didn't support them with the proper amount of staff read more

The food was overpriced and not worth the cost, with the burnt honey bbq chicken pizza and bland bolognese pasta. Additionally, the slow service and lack of attentiveness from the servers and managers is concerning. It's disappointing that they didn't make an effort to fix the burnt chicken and only offered an apology. Overall, it seems like this restaurant has some serious issues with both the quality of their food and the professionalism of their staff. On the negative side- the vibe is corporate- like you're eating in a hotel lobby in the Midwest. There was one piece of art that looked local and if not for that, you could have been anywhere. Not a damning criticism but also the music made me feel like I was in Ohio not Gloucester. Someone had the station on contemporary country and it was loud. Men singing about going home with drunk women with low self esteem and trying to win back custody of their kids- it's the worst vibe for me. I kept looking at the waitresses trying to determine which one I could pay to change it. If the food wasn't so good and the staff wasn't so nice I would have left. There were so few other customers compared to the other restaurants we passed by I wondered if it was because the music was the reason. There's a way to say "we are a working class hangout " without blasting music that glorifies heavy drinking and dim wits in the background. The restaurant owners have curated every other aspect of the experience- they should go to Oak to Ember or the Franklin at night and realize that the music in addition to the atmosphere makes it or breaks it.

They were crispy and served piping hot fresh. They probably came from a frozen bag, but they were made well. The fish chowder was not bad. Although the soup was not very rich and somewhat underseasoned, the fish seemed fresh and was flaky and tasty. Fries were not great (likely also from a bag, under seasoned, fast-food thin, and served lukewarm). The atmosphere may merit a visit for drinks, but food may be a gamble.

We recently went for my sister's birthday while I was in town. The building is starting to look a bit rundown (note the missing windows above the main entrance) and there is quite a bit of staining on the ceiling, apparently from water leaks. The wait staff was great, and we all like the salad bar and the bread and cheese that you cut yourself. The entrees, however, were disappointing. The meat on three of our four orders was overcooked (my nephew's medium rare steak was burned and charred on the outside), and three of the four sides (steamed vegetables and rice) were served ice cold. I ordered the baked scallop and steak combo and the scallops were delicious, but my medium steak was well done, and my vegetables were cold. By the time they brought out replacement vegetables and rice, we were already almost halfway through our meals. I used to love coming here when I was younger when the wait staff dressed in overalls and hats like train engineers. This place definitely needs a makeover to get it back to the fine dining experience it used to be.

Shortly after we were greeted by our waitress Cathy, or Christy? I don't normally do restaurant reviews because I find it a bit tacky but our experience here was something I will never forget. I have food allergies and our waitress took the time to go through the entire menu with us without making us feel like a burden. She was wonderful attentive, and made us feel like family. We got the Salmon dish, it was cooked to perfection and the filet mignon, which was equally as great. Our waitress recommended Key Lime pie for dessert and it was delicious. Everything about this restaurant is spot on. We will be back.

Still, a solid meal for a decent price, came out efficiently, and was family friendly.
