Read a lot of good things about Mister Pio online, so we made it a must-see during our trip to Phoenix in the winter! The location is unassuming, being housed in a strip mall off the highway. We easily found parking and luckily it wasn't too crowded when we arrived. The restaurant itself is small, although with ample seating for dine-in and space to wait for take-out. The decor is simple, with the main features being the menu handwritten on butcher paper and the large display of roasting chickens. Based on the articles we read, we opted to get the half-chicken, which comes with a side salad, as well as an order of fries. We took our meal to-go, and we waited a little bit for everything to come together, but not an unreasonable amount of time. Even with driving it back to our hotel to enjoy, the flavor, freshness, and crispiness wasn't super compromised - although my pictures are not the finest! The chicken was so moist and tender, even the white meat had a good bit of moisture. The Peruvian style of chicken was new for both of us, but we really enjoyed all the flavors and crispy skin on the chicken. The salad was simple but paired nicely with the bold flavors of the meat. The fries were delightful - perfectly sized and crisped with just enough seasoning to round out the meal. Our order was plenty of food for my husband and I, and the price point was spot on. We're glad we made this a stop during our trip, and we would recommend Mister Pio for anyone looking for a quick, delicious, unique, and affordable meal in Phoenix!

Tried Mister Pio in Phoenix and overall had a good experience. The food tasted very fresh and had a nice farm-to-table feel. The chicken was nice and juicy and seasoned well. It's a small restaurant with the grill right in the front but I can definitely see it getting warm and smoky inside. The staff were friendly throughout our visit! The menu is fairly small and it's on the pricier side, but the quality of the food was solid. A good option if you're in the area and looking to try something fresh and well prepared.

Small place, small menu, fantastic food. Top notch Peruvian roast chicken. Spice rub is fantastic. The three sauces (mild, medium, and hot) all have great flavors. Salad is very simple, but well done. Fries (extra option) are super crisp and slightly salty. I got the half chicken to have a quarter chicken to take home. Loved it! N*joy!

Mister Pio is a causal restaurant with the juiciest, most flavorful rotisserie chicken ever!! You order at the register and then seat yourself, and there is relatively limited seating space. I ordered the half chicken and large fries, but for those who are ordering a quarter chicken, I would recommend the dark meat because it was super tender and juicy! The white meat could not compare. It came with a side salad, and though it looks unassuming, this was the best side salad I've ever had (coming from someone who isn't a salad fan). The vinaigrette they used was super delicious... not sure what they put in that thing to make it so tasty. The sauces went very well with the chicken and the fries, but I would recommend the medium spicy, yellow sauce over the green. The fries were a perfect taste and texture. 10/10 for Mister Pio! I wish I lived nearby so I could visit more often.

Cozy little chicken shop that specializes Peruvian rotisserie chicken. The place has a nice and simple decor, plenty of parking but lowered cars beware as the entrance is steep. As for the chicken, it's cooked to perfection still juicy with a rich flavorful seasoning. While you can't go wrong with either dark or white, choose for dark meat if you're looking for a little more flavor and go for white if you're aiming to be full/healthy. There's option of mild, medium, and hot sauce that comes with the chicken and they're not just varying degrees of spice. The one I ordered (yellow) was mild had more of a mustardy taste to it, not my preference. My friend ordered the hot or medium (green) which was much better to my liking and also not especially hot for those worried. The side salad is fine but you can upgrade it if you want, though I'd prefer to just get an order of fries if you're looking for more. You can also order a large order of fries if you're looking to share that with a group which for the extra $3 is well worth the amount of fries that comes with it. Staff was friendly, service was good. They explained all the options and gave recommendations.

Really enjoyed my meal from Mister Pio! The place is small and probably does mostly lunch business. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the chicken roasting--clearly everything is super fresh. I had a quarter chicken, a side salad, and a small fry with the spicy sauce. The chicken itself was good but saltier than I would've liked. The fries crisp and really tasty, but the salad dressing was the best part of the meal! Maybe that sounds crazy, but the salad dressing is really unique, sweet and flavorful. Overall this was a good, fresh meal.

Okay so the food was good. Seasoned, cooked well. Etc etc. but egregiously overpriced lol $12 for the large fry was a steeeall bc there was a bunch and they were pretty perfect.........but all they got is chicken and salad. $20 for a 1/4 piece of chicken that comes w a lil spot of lettuce as the salad but you upgrade to a bigger salad FOR $12 lmao visiting town for work from LA, which can absolutely be pricey, but NEVER ha would chicken lettuce and nothing else cost a whole bill bro lol the green sauce was pretty good. The medium wasn't rly spiced at all. The hot had a good kick but wasn't spicy. Oh and watch out for the ventilation in there. I get they cookin over an open flame but the place was the tiniest bit hard to breathe in bc there was nowhere for the smoke to go.

Okay, Mister Pio, you had me at delicious. The whole chicken was amazing , juicy, full of flavor. Worth the hype? Mostly. But that $55 price tag? Just for the chicken? Yeah, that caught me off guard. I was half expecting a side of gold plated fries but that was an additional $6. Don't get me wrong though, the fries were bomb also! The market salad upgrade, though... chef's kiss. Fresh, and actually made me rethink my life choices about salads. Worth the extra cost for sure plus they use local produce. And the sauces? Delicious and you can tell freshly made. If this was a fancy sit down place, I could understand the price. Coming from the DC area, they have Peruvian style chicken places everywhere but half the price. Service was spot on. Super friendly staff who made me feel like I was part of the fam. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I budget for the chicken a little more carefully next time? 100%. But hey, totally worth it for that flavor. They should do some type of family combo. But overall spent 75$ pre tip for a full chicken, a salad, and small fry.

If you are looking for authentic Peruvian pollo a la brasa this is for sure the place for it. Customer service was friendly, location was clean and organized. You can order to go or to eat there. It is a smaller location but there is enough space to sit down and eat comfortably. I tried the quarter chicken, side salad and fries. The chicken was flavorful, juicy and cooked just right. The salad whichever dressing they use was sooo good! And the fries were also really good. Definitely coming back and trying their chicken sandwich and eating more chicken!

My bf and I were excited to finally try this place. I know this is a chicken place but I was so impressed with their fries! One of the best fries I've had for sure! Chicken was good as well but we thought it was lacking Peruvian flavor a little bit. Restaurant is tiny but has a good ambience and service was great. Everyone was nice and welcoming.

I've visited Mister Pio for the second time (2 weeks apart) and they are STILL just as delicious as the first time. The service here is great, especially with the fact that it's the same two men working. This provides consistency and comfort for people like me. The meat is extremely flavorful and not too much seasoning that makes something taste too salty. This place is a MUST TRY!! It's a very cozy place with 6 tables, 3 or which accommodate 2 people and 3 tables that accommodate 4 - 5 people. I will definitely be back to bring more people!

I've been dying to try this place out and finally went and grabbed dinner to go tonight. I called in and they were friendly and timing was accurate for takeout. I'm from the east coast where there are plenty of Peruvian spots that serve pollo a la brasa, but sadly Phoenix didn't have any until I saw Mister Pio on IG. The place is casual and cute inside, could definitely be a great lunch spot. There's not a huge menu but in reality they have perfected their items and I'd rather one solid meal than to be offered a bunch of mediocre menu items. I had the 1/4 chicken with dark meat and ordered fries. My boyfriend is trying the sandwich (review TBD on that because he hasn't dug in yet) BUT the chicken was absolutely delicious. Crispy skin and juicy chicken with a ton of flavor. The fries have to be the best fries I've ever had. They were still crispy and hot when I got home, perfectly seasoned as well. Green sauce was superb and I enjoyed the side salad as well. I love that they wrap their to go food in wrapper vs a container as it kept everything fresh without hindering any of the textures. That being said I do agree with some of the posts about the pricing. The picture I have of the chicken is minus the leg that I already ate because I couldn't wait but $15 for this amount of chicken with a small side salad is excessive. It was a lot of bone and I would typically get an entire half chicken with two sides for that price in some of the spots I've had the same style chicken on the east coast. However, I wouldn't give a one star review just based on pricing alone. To diminish the overall reputation of a restaurant on Yelp because it wasn't what you wanted to pay is ridiculous. The food here is carefully curated with fresh ingredients and absolutely delicious. I know I'll be back, too bad for those other folks. More Peruvian chicken for me

Quarter chicken dark with salad and medium sauce
    Nicole C.

Simple yet delicious!! Some friends brought me here after raving about it, and we really enjoyed the food. When you walk in, you can see and smell the chicken being roasted. Their menu is small and includes rotisserie chicken + salad, a chicken sandwich, and fries. I had the quarter chicken dark meat, with salad as well as the fries. The chicken was flavorful, moist inside, and with crispy skin outside. The SAUCES were all soooo good, they come in mild medium and hot. Some sort of mayonnaise-based sauce maybe. The fries are fat and crispy. Overall great food! And the lady taking our order and serving the food was so kind.

You know you are in for a true fine dining experience. We started off with some cocktails and I was very impressed with the clear ice cube in my Smokey Old Fashioned as it was branded with the "Toro" logo. It was so smooth and probably the best Old Fashioned I ever had, so I had 3 more! My wife throughly enjoyed her Espresso Martinis also. I started off with the Grilled Octopus and nearly cried because it was so good. This is a food favorite of mine and although I love the flavors, most restaurants over cook it and you need to cut it with a steak knife. Not this dish, no knife necessary, your fork will do. So tender, so flavorful, so amazingly delicious. The Mrs. ordered the crispy calamari and was thoroughly impressed as the texture was what fresh calamari should be and not the rubbery texture you get from 8 out of 10 other places. Seasoned to perfection with spices but not overly spicy. My wife can't bear spicy anymore , but she really enjoyed it. I finished it for her of course, because she always remembers to leave room for desert and never finishes anything. And I'm glad because I always get to taste her meals too. It's a win-win for me! I then had an off-the-hook Ceviches that rivaled my own. I am also a part-time cook and also wrote a cookbook. Ceviche is a particular dish that I compare to other restaurants and until now, never found another place that compares to mine. Toro doesn't disappoint my friends. Now for the entrée, Lomo Saltado for myself and a medium rare Ribeye for the Mrs. The Lomo Saltado was beef tenderloin on creamy rice, crispy potato, heirloom tomato, bell peppers, Rocoto Aioli and a Chifa Soy Sauce. It was mouth watering. The beef tenderloin was cooked a little on the well done side, but my bad for not specifying to cook it medium rare. It was still amazing and not a big enough deal to even mention it in the review, but I just want you to specify your preference when you order yours. My wife had the 14 Oz. Ribeye, medium rare ( she thought it was also medium but I found it to be medium rare myself) it was soooo good. She had a side dish of Crispy Brussels sprouts that were unworldy. We never had Brussels sprouts that good, it must be the sherry vinagrette and cotija cheese. Unreal. I had a side of shishito peppers that made my heart happy. My favorite peppers are not usually available everywhere so it was a real bonus to the meal. Desert, well the desert was worth the wait. We both ordered the Ube Basque Cheesecake. It is a dark purple colored slice of heaven with masa crumble, Yuzu espuma and coconut jam. The presentation was stunning. We even enjoyed espresso with sambucca to finish our dining experience. How many places offer espresso on their menu just to inform you the espresso machine isn't working? Just another bonus for us. Price wise, what you would expect for a high-end restaurant in a beautiful resort area of Scottsdale, no sticker shock there, but still, I'd save this place as a never can fail go to for a first date, anniversary, job promotion, marriage proposal, special occasion restaurant. They also do breakfast, brunch, lunch and Happy Hour. I hope you get to experience this place at least once. Put it on your bucket list, you'll be glad you did!
