Jamie provided my massage and he asked what my problem areas were and addressed them. My upper back and neck were the issue and I left that massage feeling great. She'mar did my manicure and she was great! She was very genuine and listened to my chit chat! Ha! Jamie at the front desk and the other young lady whose name I didn't catch were amazing! This salon has great products as well. My mom came with me and had the same Tune Up package and she bought products after loving her facial, the products were explained to her and she went home happy! Love this place!! Clean, soothing and quiet. The staff are top notch, the facilities neat and comfortable... what more could you want? We have not used the salon, but wifey and I love the spa. I made a last minute appointment last night because my lower back was killing me. Jasmine gave me the most amazing deep tissue massage! I typically get relaxation massages, but this time needed something deeper. She incorporated stretching and hot towels, which I've never had as part of a massage. She focused on my back but also had time to give a full body massage. I left feeling great. I highly recommend Jasmine and can't wait for my next appointment. read more

I had to wait 15 min for my appointment; excuses that could have been avoided. Waiting area could use better ambiance and definitely be quieter. I asked the stylist specifically for things not to be done and she did them anyway. She said "I know you said you didn't want this and this but... " And it was too late, she had already done them. She did a good job on my hair except for the 2 things I told her not to do. Be aware that when they wash your hair they automatically add what they call an "overlay" to every hair color which is an extra cost. This is a toner. They also upsell you to Olaplex which is also an extra cost with color in the salon and want you to buy a bottle to take home. read more

I've been a longtime customer at Mitchell's, but my last stylist left for personal reasons, so I was with a new stylist for a simple color touch-up. It was a terrible experience! She was so extremely rough with my head that it was throbbing the rest of the day. It felt like she was taking something out on me. In addition, while I waited for the color to set in the (usually luxuriously quiet) reading room, there was a dad there with two small kids who were both watching two different things on phone TV at high volume, and also crying and screaming because the dad was forcing them to watch so he could read a magazine while the mom had her hair cut. There is a waiting room at the front of the salon and it would have been nice if the staff (or the mom) had asked them to wait out there. (I have kids too so I know if is hard when they're young, but some places you just don't do that, and other spaces were easily accessible). It was $125 for all of this and it just wasn't worth it!! read more

I had a gel manicure with Sherry yesterday and was very pleased with her work. She was fun and interesting to talk to and my nails look great. I hope the manicure lasts. Last time I had this service at Mitchell's within a week one nail suddenly lost it's polish so I had to just clean the rest of them off---I mentioned this to Sherry and she told me to come back if I had problems and she'd make it right. While I appreciate that sentiment it is a pain to have to return. The gel polish product is not as durable as it was when they used OPI but apparently it's better for your nails. read more

I get massages occasionally at Mitchell's and my therapist does a fnatastic job. I will say for a massage though, I don't know if the Hyde Park location is the best. It's always very noisy and there really isn't a "relaxing" area which I really like before a massage. I believe they have more space in Kenwood. read more

The Hyde Park location is the worst. Outdated decor and facilities; untrained and inefficient receptionists and of basic lack of customer service is what you get at this salon. BUT, the stylists, nail techs and aestheticians are fantastic. I keep coming back because of my stylist, Harper. My appointments are frequently lost if made directly with the salon and don't even get me started with the call center. Mitchell's has an algorithm for a successful salon but unfortunately, Hyde Park is the totally neglected one. 1 star for the salon itself 5 starts for my stylist read more

I wasn't happy with my current hair stylists cuts so I decided to try Mitchell's out. Really easy process to book an appointment- they ask what experience level you want from a stylist. My stylist was Mila and she did a FANTASTIC job. She asked what I was looking for and actually listened. I just returned from a great deep tissue massage with Katherine. She gave me probably best head and neck massage I have ever had. She spent a lot of time in my jaw too, which was a surprise and something I will be requesting in the future. Never thought my jaw needed it so much! During the eyebrow wax, the wax felt a bit too hot, and once the technician was done, I was left with unusually raw skin. Now, over 24 hours later I still have redness and swelling around my eyes and eyebrows. During the pedicure, while my nail was being filed, I said "ow, that hurts, I think you're getting the skin," but she continued to file my nail until my toe bled, requiring cleaning of the wound and an unattractive bandage around the toe. It was disappointing to have the look of my beautiful pedicure ruined by the bandage. The staff was incredibly friendly and I hate to complain, but overall this was a negative experience that left me not wanting to come back as well as regretting leaving a tip. read more

To be perfectly honest, I have to stop myself from cringing every time I enter Mitchell's in Hyde Park. The location is seriously convenient to my house in Norwood so I do visit relatively often (also because it's easy to secure a last-minute appointment), but the attitudes of the reception staff and some of the stylists/technicians at Mitchell's is something I could really do without. I assume that the snobbery that seems to define the atmosphere of this Mitchell's Salon branch is an attempt by the staff to put their few ritzy and glamorous Hyde Park customers at ease. Let's be honest, though, the salon sits between one small, wealthy neighborhood (Hyde Park) and two significantly less affluent areas (Oakley and Norwood)...I'd be willing to bet that the majority of Mitchell's customers are more "average" than "elite" consumers, and those who make up the first group deserve to be treated in the same way that those in the latter group are. I do my best to overlook feeling somewhat snubbed when I enter the salon (I look like a college student...not someone important, I guess) simply because I have never been let down, service-wise, by anyone at Mitchell's. Never, ever again will I come here. The Hyde Park/Rookwood location has terrible customer service. I have given them multiple chances with color, cuts, nails, etc. They mess up every time. I am not a perfectionist by any means, but if I am going to pay top $$, I expect stylists to be non-snarky, not be talking about other customers by name, or complain about their own lives. I am here to relax, not here about your drama. The manager is terrible and condescending. She stalked around and didn't even compliment anyone on their hair. I go to the Hyde Park location for my acrylic nails. I always ask for Chimere...she's the best! The salon itself is always clean and the staff have always been nice and helpful. What I like about Mitchell's over other nail salons, is they don't use those drill tools when doing acrylic nails. Everything is done by hand, which is much gentler than the electric tools and don't leave my fingernails sore for days after. Mitchell's is a nice place but, in all honesty, if Chimere ever left and went somewhere else, I'd follow her there. :) read more

Kendra gives an amazing facial. She uses tr right amount of pressure and is very thorough. If I was reviewing this place on her alone I would give 5 stars. But the downside- this is more of a salon and not so much a spa, but their prices are on the high side so it's kinda a bummer. There is no relaxation area, just a normal waiting room. There are not lockers or showers, just changed in your room and there's a basic stand up shower in the room your having service done. But I don't think anyone uses it. The ambiance is lacking. The prices are expensive, but Kendra is really good so I go back. read more

I've been going to Mitchell's at Rookwood for 15 or more years. I have always gotten good service there. Katie is a wonderful hairstylist. She listens and offers advice as needed. She cuts not only my hair, but my husband's and kids', too. She has been incredibly patient with my finicky children (they are teens/pre-teens). I recently had a facial (first ever) with Lorna, and it was fabulous! I had no idea how relaxing a facial could be. Lorna explained everything and asked more than once if I had any questions (because it was my first). In the past, I have had pedicures, manicures, special event hair styles, and make up done here, and have been very satisfied with all. I agree with some other reviewers that parking can be a hassle-and not just at the holidays. Arrive early. I also agree that the waiting area is nothing special and it can be noisy in some parts of the salon. They always graciously offer beverages. Receptionists and the centralized appointment center staff are friendly, courteous, and helpful. Prices are pretty high, but I know that I am paying for all the "extra" stuff (beverages, central call center, reception, etc.) in addition to the services. My family has been disappointed that Mitchell's no longer allows you to add gratuity to a credit card payment. Can't imagine that any other establishment, like a restaurant, would do the same. Mitchell's has a lot of services and a few good hairdressers but their product return policy is very disappointing. Their hairdressers recommend products and the salon doesn't even do full returns- only store credit and after two weeks not even that. For someone who comes regularly over years and is a return customer it's very disappointing that I would be sold a product recommended by their staff for $40 that I don't like and not even be given a store credit. Really poor customer policy!! Next time I will be rethinking finding a new salon and hairdresser and go to the actual spa for massages. read more

Will not patronize again. My nail tech was coughing repeatedly during a recent (end of February) pedi. Yes, she turned her head and coughed into her elbow and at times even left the room and I think she applied hand sanitizer, too, but someone with a worrisome-sounding cough should not have been at work, period, contagious or not (and hopefully she was not). If Mitchell's doesn't have good sick day policies for its employees, then it needs to address that. If Mitchell's doesn't have good supervisors telling employees to go home when they aren't 100% healthy, it needs to address that. Though she was trying to minimize exposure to any possible germs, her coughing creeped me out, and I could hardly wait for the pedi to be over. I received this service right before a vacation and just as you-know-what was starting to gain more attention in the U.S. It's more than two weeks later and I'm glad to say I did not get sick, but no client or co-worker should have to face this kind of environment in a salon/spa. read more

My only complaint is as a Norwoodite, I am tired of this establishment and others being referred to as being located in Hyde Park. It is not in Hyde Park, it is in Norwood. The shopping centers Rookwood Commons. Rookwood Pavilion and the new Rookwood Exchange sit on Norwood property. All stores and shops are located in Norwood. read more

My stylist is great, but a couple of things bothered me my most recent visit. The surrounding stylists are slobs and I had to walk through a ton of hair because they do not clean up properly, even after their clients are gone. Additionally, a stylist didn't stop her client from blaring music from her phone. This is supposed to be a relaxing experience whether in the spa are or the salon. Another disappointment is not being able to leave a tip on your debit/credit card. People rarely carry cash these days and its a nuisance to have to go to an ATM to be able to tip for your services. read more

I booked last minute a couple days before I wanted to get in through their online service. It worked great. I chose Adam because he had availability. I've never been to him or anyone there before so I didn't have a reference for who to select. I received a call about 40 minutes before to let me know he was running late. When he came out a greeted me he was very apologetic for the delay. He was professional and friendly. He asked me what I was wanting and then he made suggestions for what he thought might work. I've always thought Mitchell's was the premiere day spa for mani/pedi services. My last three experiences have not been the best. Pedi tech missed second coat of polish on one toe - had to go back. Extended wear mani peeled off in 8 days - had to go back. Reservationist didn't mark mani as an extended wear on the books so there wasn't enough time for tech to do this service, so had to drive from Rookwood to TriCounty for extended wear. No one ever offers any apologies. I think I'm done with this. read more

By far the worst experience I have ever had at a salon. When I called the call center, I requested extended wear pedicure and acrylic manicure. First of all, when I was getting my pedicure, the nail tech sliced my heel open and it still hurts 3 days after getting the service. The nail tech who did my nails was very snappy when I asked the lady at the front desk to get her to let her know that I was ready. I had to leave promptly after my appointment, and she snapped at me saying "I heard you were in the bathroom, and I wasn't going to sit here and wait for you to get out of the bathroom." Then, I also did not get extended wear on my acrylics. Why would I ever request extended wear on my toes and not fingers? She used regular polish and snapped at me when I asked about it. The call center did not record my request correctly. I had an eyebrow wax and a Brazilian scheduled after my nails. I had to wait in the waiting room, wasting more time when I had to leave promptly after the appointment, to the point where I had to ask the lady at the front desk to get the waxer. The waxer tried to justify how long she took because she heard my nails were still wet, when they shouldn't have even been wet in the first place! She had to take my pants off and during the wax my nails got nicked, dented, smudged etc. I didn't have time to get all of them fixed. I got one fixed because it looked so terrible. My nails were supposed to be studio white, and now they are yellowing. THEY LOOK AWFUL. I'll never go back there again for any service whatsoever. This place does not live up to their name, and neither do their employees. read more
