Honestly, as long as I've communicated what I'm looking for to the hairstylists here, they've given me the best color and haircuts of my life. If what I want isn't the best for my hair, they make suggestions on how to get a similar look without damage to my hair. Never once have I looked anything other then my best while leaving the salon. No matter where else I go afterwards, I get compliments from strangers and my friends and family. My husband, who is a man's man and notices nothing girly, raves about how I look when I get home. Tanya is simply amazing! She was highly recommended to me literally decades ago. It was amazing to see the transformation she had on me - she was excavating me out from under years of not knowing what to do with my hair. I only imagine that is why she uses a woman's silhouette with the wings of a butterfly for her business because of the metamorphosis you can undergo while there. I followed her from the salon she was working at then, to another and now will stay where she is now in Hyde Park because she owns the place along with another location in Crestview Hills. First let me tell you that I've not liked my hair since I was a teen. It's very thick, wavy and tends toward the frizzy side. I gave her carte blanche to do whatever fit my hair, face and lifestyle and she cut it in a way that made me actually like my hair! Tanya reminds me of the story of Michelangelo when asked how he was able to sculpt his masterpiece, David; he replied "It is easy. You just chip away the stone that doesn't look like David." Consider Tanya a sculptor of hair. The styles holds up so well until my re-cut that once when sitting in the waiting area to get my hair done, another customer thought I had just had it done!! Tanya is professional, personable and takes great pride in training her staff to the highest level possible. Her ready smile and hair are always radiant. Just walking into the salon, you know you are in for an exceptional experience. There is a very stylish decor, comfortable ambiance and the waiting area offers, teas, coffee, pretzels, crackers, water diffused with fruit/veggies, etc. The shampoo area has these wonderfully comfy chairs for reclining that seem to work in conjunction with the shampoo bowls to make it an ultra-comfortable experience. No more achy necks. While being shampooed, they give you a hand/arm massage and will clean your rings for you. I'm also in love with the perfectly warmed towels they wrap around your head. It's so very relaxing! Then if you need more relaxation, they also offer cocktails! I also found out that Tanya has been instrumental in working with children who have hair loss. She volunteers her time through the whole process of measuring for molds, ordering wigs as well as personally styling the hair for them. The only reason I knew this is because my daughter had hair so extremely long that she could sit on it and wanted to donate it years ago. Of course, I wouldn't dream of bringing her to anyone except Tanya. It was/is touching to see how much she cares. There are lots more services such as mani/pedis, massages, make-overs that I haven't used, but it's nice to know it's there if you want it. Saw stylist Kenji after seeing a girl with gorgeous hair while out. She told me it was colored and I could not believe it!! My original appt, I was running late, Kenji jumped right in and started to work putting in color, highlights and lowlights all together! He did an amazing job , looked natural and had great depth. Color, cut and style were all great! They have complimentary coffee, tea and flavored water. Recently, they added a bite food bar and mixed drinks to add to the spa experience. I have been trying to find a stylist in the area that does a great job with curly hair. Having experienced a fantastic stylist in Mason that specializes in Deva Curl cuts, I was encouraged by all of the great reviews of Kelly with the Deva cut. I scheduled an appt for my daughter. I was appalled when she cut her hair as you would in a normal cut (pull up through fingers and cut a wide section of hair at an angle with scissors). This is NOT how you cut curly hair nor how the Deva cut is performed. But then, to have it turn out completely uneven was just mindblowing. The only thing "Deva" about the entire process was sitting my daughter under a hairdryer hood to dry her naturally. Crazy high price for a horrible cut. It was only when we got home and my daughter washed her hair and let it dry, did we discover how uneven it really was. We will never go back. read more

I had a very disappointing visit to say the very least. I went in to the salon at Crestview and spoke to a hairdresser about what I wanted for my 12 year old daughter and myself(a consultation). I then scheduled the appointments for myself and my daughter to get our hair highlighted and cut the next week. It did no go well for me with Courtney Stormer. She said she charges more because she was there for 10 years and I said great I expect you will do a great job then! Hannah did an absolutely amazing job with my daughter's hair! All over highlights and cut... beautiful!!! Kudos to Hannah!!! Unfortunately, Courtney Stormer scheduled herself to do my hair. I explained my goal of lightening my hair to a silver grey/platinum blonde over time and said I wanted to start lightening gradually with all over highlights and to lift my long layers. Simple enough for most hair stylist I've had. After approx 4.5 hours my hair was virtually the same color and the cut was not finished and she only used a blow dryer on my thick hair to dry and did not style it!!!!!! She said she was going to use a all over hair dye on the highlights she just put in when she was supposed to do my roots only. But I trusted her since she charges more for her services to know what she was doing. Looked a mousy dark brown when she finished and could only see a couple highlights because she used all over brown dye after highlights?! Ridiculous! She gave me a mushroom cap with the layers she started and don't finish! I have never left a salon looking like I did. She was too busy to rinse my color out because she was cutting someone else's hair!!! I left after I paid $516.00 !!!!! I wouldn't have batted an eyelash not one if my hair had even remotely what we discussed. I could have done better seriously! LOVE LOVE LOVE HANNA's work with my daughters hair. Utterly in shock the next couple of days w/what happen to mine. Went in to talk to her on the one day she said she was there and she wasn't there. I was going to pay another salon to finish my cut and add highlights you can see but everyone I know said the salon should fix it. At the end of the day HANNA stepped up to take care of me and my hair and offered to do so for no charge which was truly what I would expect from the salon... I really just had to have my hair cut finished! But after Hannah's excellent customer service ,Allison,the "manager", called me to let me know I would have to pay 67.00 more to correct/get highlights and to finish my hair cut because according to COURTNEY STORMER my hair was so very damaged she did her best, which I take offense to because that was simply not true. I know Courtney Stormer knows she did awful cut and color that day she was rushed. That's why I don't go to Super cuts(it looked ridiculous)!! Hannah did an amazing job doing what should have been done the first time and completing the hair cut COURTNEY started but didn't have time to give me the attention to finish or even style! I did pay an extra fee also which was terrible customer service on the manager's part!!! Allison, the "manager", never even spoke to me first.... the client! Before she and according to her upper mgmt made a decision to charge me $67.00 more lol. I paid a total of $630.00 including tips to get our hair done. I have spoke with Allison the "manager" because she answered the phone yesterday when I called to schedule another appoint with HANNA to do my hair again and she said she would have Hannah call me back that she was there but with a client. I have not received a call back. So I'm pretty sure the problem again is "management". I'm going to try to get ahold of Hannah again because I don't trust the "manager" Allison to schedule my appointment only Hannah after the extremely poor experience I had with Courtney Stormer and Allison the "manager"! Hannah deserves a 5 Star and I thought about giving a 5 Star and focusing on Hannah and discussing the poor experience. Ultimately it needed to be this way because the pitiful cut and color by Courtney Stormer and the poor management encounter on the phone are what I am taking away from this salon mostly! A very convoluted story will tell you in the past few years I've followed my hairdresser to this, her third location since I've been seeing her. Each time she moved places the services offered got better. I'm so glad she ended up at Tanya's. For my $30 hair cut I got a wash, a hot towel treatment, a cut and styling. Great atmosphere and a wonderful view of Hyde Park Square and the Kilgore Fountain. I recommend Lindsay Howard for haircuts. She's new to Tanya's but has a lot of experience. I don't have experience with other style needs (highlights, perms, etc.) but I received very good treatment when I went here. read more

This review is a long time coming and to be completely honest I haven't been to Tanya's for almost two years since I live in Boston now. BUT I was just that happy with my hair that I've come back to write a review. Kenji gave me the best cut and highlights I have ever had. I went to him a few times but I was still an undergrad so I went shopping around for something cheaper, but was never as happy with my hair. I think this is a pretty big compliment since I've worked at one of the most upscale spa/salons in Boston and have access to some of the most amazing stylist on the East Coast. If you are looking for a heartless, money grabbing salon, this is the place. My Mother was a faithful customer, only seeing Liz, for close to 15 years. Unfortunately she became ill with cancer and passed only 3 months after diagnosis. Somehow she made and kept an appointment in May of 2019 with Liz, and as usual, she booked her next appointment for July. She did not make her July appointment. When I spied the appointment on her calendar, I called to cancel. Upon placing the call to cancel the appointment, a very curt receptionist informed me that Liz is "traditionally booked with a tight schedule" and asked the reason for cancellation. Upon informing her of my Mother's passing, her exact words were with a sigh, "I'll tell Liz". She hung up and I never heard back from anyone at the salon. Beware where you chose to spend your money and who you in turn support. You would think that with a history and business of 15 or so years, a simple call back to the family would have been in order or a more appropriate, "I'm sorry for your loss" could of, at a minimum, been muttered by a receptionist. read more

I gave this place two shots and ultimately decided I won't be back. My stylist was great but the salon is chaotically overcrowded. Both times as I sat under the dryer, I kept having to move my feet out of the way so that people could pass by. The second time I was there we had to wait in line to have my hair washed out and at one point I glanced over and there were five women in line waiting their turn to sit at the sinks. The prices are exorbitant for Cincinnati- I paid equal or more than what I used to pay in NYC and LA for the same hair care. Lots of salons in the area offer complimentary drinks but Tanya's has a cocktail menu with prices higher than neighboring restaurants and bars. I'm taking my hair somewhere where I feel pampered and not like I'm on a conveyer belt to make someone else a load of cash. read more

The salon is always spotlessly clean and the staff are amazing. Tanya is a fantastic business owner. Kelly does a phenomenal job on my cut and color every time I go. I went from dry frizzy hair, with awful split ends, and long grown out box-dye color to sleek hair, with no damage, and the perfect sun kissed bayalage. Kelly really knows her stuff and her clients! I've been going to Tanya's for a while now. The pros: Clean area, knowledgeable staff. The hair stylist I usually see is Gabrielle because she is a nationally certified in being a colorist and hair extension person as well as great hair cuts. The products she use is the best and will make your hair look good because mine was damaged from being in a dry climate so I visit her when I'm back in the salon. The cons: The parking is limited and it's pay parking, which isn't too expensive, but again, it is limited unless you parking in a neighborhood or off street. Hyde Park - (This is Only my personal experience so take this with a grain of salt). I did stumble upon some other women who no longer go there because of similar problems. The Facials are AMAZING with Pat. The Massages are average to great depending on the type. The Mani and Pedi's are Average to Low (very low for the type of Salon unless you get Melissa - she's wonderful. The owner is fabulous and does an amazing job overall. I've gone several times until I was treated rudely and some of the staff were completely unprofessional with me. I was told I'm the ONLY person who has EVER had these problems, I thought this was strange because Ive never been treated like I was a difficult customer. In fact people tend to walk all over me. However, I soon found other women had the same types of problems! At least I realized I wasn't the ONLY one. This Salon strives to be a 5 star, and is not in comparison to some of the others in this city I've visited. Might have been at one time, and might be again but currently is not. SO SHOP around and read reviews first because you WILL pay a pretty penny to go here. The desk customer service needs lots of work!!!! I've had reservations lost after waiting a MONTH to get in, even when I presented a card that had the time and date written in BY a STAFF MEMBER, as if I filled it out myself, problems with parking (you have to PAY or search for it), inconsistent charges, and charged when I had a gift coupon that was no longer any good. SO most of the issues was front desk management and communication. I did have a pretty nasty cut on my toe a couple of times from my pedicure, which was surprising at this type of place. I also was pressured to tip every time, and not only tip my stylist but every person I spoke to! EVERY time I checked out, the desk would say would you like me to include a tip for so and so, and the other person, oh and why not the person who smiled at you on the way in. I always tip, but I don't always tip everyone I come into contact with at a salon, nor do I need to be pressured into it. My tips alone would be $15-$25 extra to $120.00 + more. I have never been to a Salon that ASKED for tips. The owner Tanya is incredibly skilled and very attentive. She does amazing work. Not only does she do Hair, but she also is amazing at makeovers. The whole meal deal. She did her best to smooth things over with me, however, the front desk still carried a rude air towards me that left a bad taste in my mouth. I was treated poorly when a mistake in a charge, that was not my fault, became my problem to deal with immediately. I was embarrassed and bullied by the desk manager over something that truly was not my fault. I stood there with my mouth hanging open at the rudeness and ridiculous treatment I was receiving. As "the customer" they reminded me how I WAS WRONG even though I kept saying I just don't understand what happened, and I'm trying to figure out how I can fix it. I did what they pressured me to do (Their way) even though I was treated rudely and was unprepared to deal with it at that time. (I should have walked out.) I had several people tell me it was completely unprofessional and not necessary how I was handled, especially because I truly did nothing wrong. Then the owner was told I was acting irate and was loud and rude, yet I was calm and quiet (upset) but still professional, because I was so confused by what the heck was going on. In fact anyone who knows me describes me a a quiet person. I was never apologized too even when the owner got involved. So no I don't plan on returning, I have found a much lovelier place with less cost and better service. SO try it out but be prepared for the mega price and hopefully you wont have the same service problems, Is it worth the price , not for me but perhaps you. read more

Love this place! A friend who grew up in Cincinnati recommended it to me and I won't go anywhere else. All the hairstylists are talented and fun to be around. They also do a great job. Plus, they offer to clean any rings you're wearing, while giving you hand and arm massages for free with your hair cut. I treated myself to an hour and a half massage with Juliana. OMG it was amazing, and I am so happy that I have get another massage place in Cincinnati to visit. Juliana did a great job: she worked hard on my stupid shoulders, and for the time being, all of my pain is gone. The salon itself is very clean, has nice lighting, has a great reception area, and feels upscale without seeming out of place in Cincinnati, Ohio. Finally, I loved the salon's online appointment scheduling system and text reminders. Not that I would forget a massage, but it was very convenient! Costs: $250 Additional Costs: $500 Total: $750 Kelley Hightower gave me a diva cut and color. While she seems quite nice, her abilities in stying black hair are lacking. She colored my hair red ash instead of the blonde requested and cut a two inch differential (L to R) in the back of my hair! Shocked and dismayed especially once my hair began to break off. This was the worse hair experience of my life! Fortunately, I had the good sense to contact the state board who advised I seek a professional colorist immediately. The new salon informed my hair had been severely over color processed, not toned, and under foiled quite considerably. They recolored my hair the exact color I requested and sealed the cuticles to stop the breakage. Unfortunately, only time can fix the two inch cut differential in the back of my hair so they had to cut and will continue cutting to provide the length correction I initially had prior to visiting Tonya's salon. To make matters worse, once the Kelley was informed of my dismay very little concern was expressed which I why I am seeking legal counsel. My only request was for a refund of the horrible cut. read more

Here's where my issue is: I always receive awesome haircuts from this salon. I am fairly new to this place, but I haven't received a bad hair cut yet. My problem is how rude the staff is. When I walked in to the salon yesterday- my hair was a mess (which was why I was coming for a deva cut). When I arrived, I wasn't offered a drink although every other guests was offered. Then when my stylist walked in the room she looked me up and down, looked at the receptionist and said "is THAT mine?", and the receptionist widened her eyes and shook her head yes. They acted like I wasn't even there. I was appalled. I'm guessing it was either directed to my hair, or maybe my weight. The way she acted was ridiculous. She was condescending towards me with every word she spoke. I felt almost ashamed to be there. Every thing I said towards her- she responded with the fakest laugh. I was honestly really upset with how I was treated. There were multiple glances from the other stylists during my visit. It was like they've never seen a fat person before. I finally found a place that can control my curly hair, only to be treated like I'm not worthy of being there. I obviously had the money to spend and was willing to spend the money there. I felt like I was walking on egg shells the entire time in fear of retribution for being fat. Regardless of how your clients look, it's your job to help them feel beautiful. That's not how I felt. My hairdresser is very good but the salon has raised their prices significantly over the past few years, without notice. The price for my childs haircut was 30 just two years ago, it is now $52. That is a ridiculous price, and a ridiculous increase. Not to mention they should have notified customers when they scheduled or sent letters to clients, to indicate a huge price change. The salon is nice enough, the staff is not always the most professional. Once, my stylist canceled her appointments, they didn't call to cancel so I showed up. They actually checked me in and let me sit there for 30 minutes without checking into why. I finally asked what happened and they said oh, she's not here today, she's out of town for a movie shoot. ??? No apology, no credit towards a future haircut. I think this salon thinks it is bigger and nicer than it is in reality. I lived in LA and San Francisco, and have gone to really nice salons that were professional and cost less. I've been meaning to post this review for some time, but haven't gotten around to it. My entire family has been going to Tanya's for years, and we are always impressed with the attention we are given, as well as the quality of the services provided. We each see different stylists, all the way from some of the newer talent, up to Tanya herself for my wife. All the women (and Kenji!) are terrific at what they do, and are always very kind and friendly. Also, we mostly visit for hair cuts & colors, but on multiple occasions my wife has gotten massages. I've seen people (what look like wedding parties) getting make-up done there, as well. The location is great (right in the heart of Hyde Park Square), and their facility is really nice as well. They even had a customer appreciation / anniversary party a couple of years ago! Overall, I would recommend Tanya's to any of my friends and family. read more

I'd be happy to change this review if I received what I feel like is a proper apology. I had discussed a cut with one of their stylist via their Instagram page and they had told me they could do my hair on a certain date (today) I even talked to them yesterday, the day before the cut about how they would like me to come in terms of hair styled. Then today after washing and styling my hair as was requested by the stylist the day before, I went to the salon only to be told the stylist "forgot" and had no availability. The salon reception offered me one other time this Saturday that couldn't work with my schedule and then just kind of said "okay well sorry". For a place that seemed to be quite nice the interaction was unprofessional and left me quite disappointed. I would encourage you to learn from my mistake and make sure you book with the salon directly - and hope they don't forget about you. read more

Hands down, Tanya is the best! I must disagree w/ a past Yelp reviewer as I, too, have naturally curly hair and Tanya's is the best hair cut I have ever had! I can wear my hair curly or straight...either way it looks great. And her color is spot-on. Truth be told, I moved from Cincinnati many years ago and I try to fly in to see Tanya several times a year just to get my hair cut and colored by her -- she is that talented!!! Please consider sending your stylists to classes which align their practice with your extreme increased prices.

Kenji is a great stylist, but does not listen to his customers. He does what he wants, not what clients ask for. I showed him a picture of what i wanted and he literally completely ignored my request. He can be rude to both staff and patrons and is incredibly snobby (considering he cuts hair for a living). He should at least try to be a bit more down to earth. Go to him for a cut if you have no idea what you want to do with your hair and are in the mood to be talked down to. read more
