Delicious Sushi! I looooove this place. Ambiance: full bar and family friendly! Plenty of seating at the sushi bar, tables, and booths. We came for lunch but it looks like a great date spot as well! Food: We got the mermaid roll, miso soup, sushi/sashimi lunch special, and gyoza. It was absolutely delicious! The fish was extremely fresh and their rolls were full of flavor. There were plenty of cooked options like chicken and vegetables and Shumai. Are you a vegetarian? They have plenty of options for you too! I didn't get the dessert but I saw the deep fried cheesecake and the mochi go by our booth and they both looked divine. Service: Fast, super friendly, and efficient. "The best Sushi in Central NY" according to their website...let us get back to that statement. Ordered sushi for pick up recently and have been here a few times. I have also been to their ramen restaurant as well when it first opened and a few times after that. We ordered 7 specialty rolls + a regular roll, I know, big dollars in sushi, but it was for about 4 adults. Went to pick it up, they seemed busy inside, no problem, waited for my order and brought it home. Upon arriving at home and opening the bag, we received 2 small cups of soy sauce (seriously?) and...get this...NO wasabi, NO pickled ginger in any of the sushi trays. Ok, lets pause for a second here, I've been to Japan, have experienced eating sushi everywhere, omakase, fresh sashimi, sushi that you will never find in Central NY, Wegmans sushi, etc. and I have always had wasabi, ginger and the adequate amount of soy sauce needed for the sushi. If you are a sushi fan, you probably know why wasabi and ginger are served with sushi. Did they forget? I mean the sushi chef made 7 specialty rolls, you should know these are served on the side. Its like ordering chicken nuggets from Mcdonalds and always getting asked for sauces. Maybe its a new chef...so we decided to call and that's where the fun begins. We called to asked the lady why we didn't receive ANY wasabi or ginger and why 2 small cups of soy sauce for essentially 8 full sushi rolls. First, whoever picked up the phone probably has never eaten sushi before. Second, she wasn't pleasant and pretty much told us, they were saving the wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce for IN-DINING guest. Ok HOLD UP. What's the difference between a paying customer dining in and me taking out. I ordered from the same menu, at the same prices, the same food, and I don't get the essentials that normally come with it. That was the wrong move. If you are running out of these things, go to Wegmans and buy out their supplies, but don't short change your customers and push product that is not up to standards. Ok back to the phone conversation, we told them that doesn't make any sense, she tells us to come get it ourselves, we asked if it could be delivered because why should I have to make a trip out there again for your disregard for take-out customers. In her unpleasant tone and manner, she questions how are they suppose to deliver it and hangs up abruptly. Just a side note: they have these things called CARS that have wheels for transportation. Now we are even more irritated, we call back and she pretends like she didn't talk to us. We asked her why she hung up on us, she denied it, and we explained everything again and she told us to COME GET IT again! No apologies, nothing at all. If you can't handle the situation appropriately, you probably should get a manager/boss to handle it for you. At this point in time, I rather go to Wegmans or any supermarket and throw my money at them for wasabi, soy sauce and ginger before I step foot in that establishment again and that's what I did. Little did I know, when I was out doing this, a member of my party decided to call them again and this time demanded to speak to the manager. After telling the manager we will dispute the charge, the manager started apologizing profusely and agreed to deliver the condiments to us and give us $30 credit for next use. By the time I returned home, none of these things were delivered yet. Finally it came, but here's the kicker, I was handed a wet bag of soy sauce. Yes, there were cups of soy sauce inside, wasabi with ginger, half-heartedly thrown into the bag in which the top fell off the cups and spilled soy sauce soaking the bottom of the bag and I'm just holding it in my hand. Inside were 5x $5 gift certificates soy sauce stained. (not $30) In regards to sushi, NOT GOOD, rice too sour, too much vinegar, fish (well its been sitting out for a while due to this issue) not fresh tasting. All the more reason you need the palette cleansing ginger. Had to drink wonton soup at the end of it to wash the disappointment away and they don't even serve wonton soup. Here's the final take, you state the "The best Sushi in Central NY" on your website, but you don't even serve it correctly. Time to remove that statement. Even gas station sushi comes with all the condiments. If you are in short supply, I get it, get ahead of the problem instead of trying to cheat take-out customers and give preferential treatment to in-dining guest. The person on the other end of the phone needs customer service training or else needs to be banned from answering phones. A few days later, a few co-workers wanted to order from Mitsuba ramen, after hearing my experience at this establishment, they decided against it and we ordered elsewhere which provided all the condiments...tough luck Mitsuba. read more

Our appetizrs and drinks were served relatively quickly and were very good. I love a good gyoza and Mitsuba has it, and their Thai tea is very good as well. Not too sweet, not too bitter. Our main dishes took a bit longer to come, but for a party of 20 for a Yelp event, that's to be expected. My dish came with a salad, with traditional hibachi ginger dressing on it. A lot of hibachi ginger dressing is very strong with the ginger flavor, but Mitsubas was a very good balance and enjoyable. My main dish had beef with stir fried veggies and teriyaki noodles. The first thing I noticed was how much meat was on my dish. They do NOT skimp you on your portions. The teriyaki noodles were very good. The meat could've used a little more seasoning, but the teriyaki sauce on top was delicious. My wife got a couple sushi rolls and was very happy with them Some of our group ordered enough sushi to warrant bringing a boat, which was cool to see. This review is for their sushi only. I was very hesitant to write a review for Mitsuba, but I figured it may help someone else in the future as I got food poisoning from their nigiri plate on my first (and only) visit here. It really is such a shame because I enjoyed the atmosphere, the service was great and I thought their dragon roll was good. My sister and I dined here while she was in town visiting and we ate all the same foods all day long except for their yellowtail and an unknown nigiri piece. I was questioning this unknown nigiri piece and when I asked our server about it she said it was yellowtail (looked nothing like yellowtail). Part of me thought it would be best to leave it alone but I also love trying new things so I went for it. It wasn't horrible but had a very weird and slimy taste (it was NOT eel). Later that night I got sick and knew it had to be from that piece as my sister and I shared literally everything else for the whole weekend. To set the record straight, I HATE writing one-star reviews but when you get food poisoning, especially from raw fish which is really really dangerous, you just want to be sure other people are cautious as well. So, lesson learned. If it looks questionable and your server cannot correctly identify the piece, just don't eat it. Or don't go to Mitsuba which will apparently serve questionable sushi. read more

New review: SO good. Went for birthday celebration and everything was amazing. Really busy, we did wait an excessively long time for the bill. Waitress forgot the white rice for a few people. But the food was outstanding and portions were very generous. Started with Shumai, Hinsdale roll and new Hartford roll. Salads/soup were great. Hibachi was a hit with everyone, we had pretty much everything and everyone loved it. Chef was super fun, the kids loved it. Lots of laughs and good food - can't ask for more! Old review: Went tonight with a big group. We were the only ones there for hibachi from what I could see. Very pretty restaurant. I love hibachi, and I found it to be ok. Nothing more. The chef was entertaining, and the best part was him throwing zucchini pieces and us trying to catch them with our mouths. The salad with ginger dressing was really really good. The fried rice was bland. The veggies were good, a nice mix of carrots onions zucchini mushrooms. I love mushrooms and I would have liked more personally. The steak and shrimp were good. Very good quality, but food tends to be very oily and salty. Yaki soba noodles were swimming in oil and the portion was quite small with very few vegetables in it for the money, especially since I asked to have just veggies and not the chicken it normally comes with. we came for dinner a few weeks ago. they initially seated us at the bar which was not COVID safe. proximity to other patrons less than 6 ft and bartender was not wearing his mask (nose exposed and part of mouth exposed) while serving drinks. we spoke to the host who promptly moved us to a table when one became available, but this tainted the experience. once seated at the table, service was quick and sushi was fresh. Masks should be worn at all times and bar dining should not be permitted if adequate spacing cannot be provided. read more

It's a little shocking to have such a good sushi spot in Syracuse, NY. Where some sushi places in the area have really gone down hill, this place has flourished. We've tried a variety of things, liked some and didn't like others. The big miss was the beef and broccoli, not something I'd recommend. We couldn't quite put our fingers on it, but something tasted a little.....off. The good news is that the sushi makes up for it. They come out with a volcano roll appetizer, delicious and we've ordered about 15 different rolls from here. All are delicious in their own right. We had a sashimi platter which was also good quality except for the sea bass (probably tilapia) which was very tough. We have had the occasional fishy piece of fish but again for Syracuse, not to shabby. Fast service every time we are here too! read more

Love this place. It is a great find, especially when dining with vegetarians since they have wonderful vegetarian sushi, which is difficult to find. A full bar guarantees a vast selection of cocktails. My sushi dinner included a bowl of miso soup, far more flavorful than most. In fact, if it is not included in your dinner, there is a Yelp coupon for a free bowl. I miss Tokyo Seoul, who had Bento Boxes for sushi dinner. I wish Mitsuba would do this, as well. The Bento would offer a selection of different items and would be worth a few extra dollars. Come here when it is your Birthday, and you can, like me, wear the big head and dance while your guests are getting sake shot into their mouths. I really tonight am very disappointed. Yes, it's Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday ... however we got there at 6:00p no reservation. Told it would be 30-40 minute wait which was fine with our daughters. 60 minutes pass and I ask them how much longer. They say I'm next but they have a lot of reservations at 7:00p. I said it's been over an hour now. I was told 10 minutes. 25 minutes later I go back up and I'm told it's just estimates. I said you have to your job and make reservations without overbooking and also accommodate the people who do come in accordingly with time frames at least within reason that they're told. At 1 hour 40 minutes we leave. I receive a phone call at 2 HOURS After arriving and I ignored the call. 2 hours. Unacceptable. They had at one point 10 people with the the same reservation time knowing they cannot do this. Not only that the 2 girls that were at the counter were horribly rude. They were also seating reservations in spaces of large booths! It was horrible and very disheartening as we love to eat here. A busy night yes, but unacceptable on their behalf. read more

I don't understand the high rating. One word can review Mitsuba...BLAND. Many reviews mentioned it being a clean restaurant, but there was dust and crumbs in the entry, peeling leather from the benches and schmootz on the partitions. First impressions, not so good. Salads were dripping wet from being washed, but still included brown and spotted leaves as well as pure iceberg lettuce core. The dressing was underseasoned and watery. It was almost like lettuce soup. Katsu was bone dry...it probably could've been reconstituted in the salad puddle. Is that what is meant to be ying and yang??? Teriyaki dinner for 20 was the most disappointing of it all. Watered down, tasteless food with no hint of teriyaki. Perhaps there's a water leak in the kitchen because this dish was swimming. Proteins were obliterated and tasted like they came out of an MRE pouch. No thanks. read more

Good customer service is very much appreciated. Especially with how quick the response was. Original: The food was not good. Definitely the worst sushi I've had in NY, maybe even in the US?? I'm not even trying to be dramatic here. When you walk into a sushi restaurant with good reviews, you expect good sushi. The rice to fish ratio was way off balance, an awful amount of sugar added to sauces (even the spicy mayo!), they give you a tiny amount of gyoza sauce and tempura sauce with your apps, and it was all just so bad. They also cheapen out by supplementing spicy tuna with tons of tempura flakes to fill you up. I've never seen a place do this before. It's not cool or unique, it's cheap. My fiancé and I both got sick after eating here. It's also a very noisy restaurant with no investsound dampening. After spending over $100, I'm sorely disappointed. I can only believe the people who actually enjoy this place have never had proper sushi in their life because these sushi chefs were certainly not trained right.. Fair to middling which isn't good enough considering the amount of good Japanese food around. Tempura vegetable selection was a bit boring and the sauce was fairly tasteless. Could have been out of a bottle for all the impact it had. Miserable staff too. Not a single smile to be seen. A true Japanese restaurant welcomes you with volume and enthusiasm. My wife and I came out here tonight for the first time. I have to say we were thoroughly impressed by both the delicious food and the kindness of the staff, including management. Once you walk inside, you know that your going to have a great dinner. It's absolutely beautiful inside. I didn't know what I wanted to order when we came in, so we went with table food. Next time we will try the hibachi for sure! There was a party in there tonight and it sounded like they were having a blast. The dish I ordered felt like it was created for someone like me. I ordered the teriyaki combo which let me pick two meats! I love that because I usually have a tough time choosing between chicken and steak. It was phenomenal! The sauce was sweet, yet not overbearing and the noodles were cooked to perfection. What is even cooler, is that even if you eat a table you can still order hibachi! That is exactly what my wife did and her chicken and shrimp dish was delish. She also got fried rice with hers which was good too. My fiance surprised me with a dinner to Mitsuba the other night. I have to say that I was quite pleased with the choice. When we were seated by the kind waiter we noticed how fancy the restaurant was and yet how chill it was as well! We felt super comfortable! We are Asian food lovers and always try sushi everywhere we go! This was some of the best sushi I have ever had in my life!! Everything was so lovely prepared and set up and tasted even better than it looked . The Tom yum soup was amazing and the dumplings were cooked to perfection. On top of all that we also got pad Thai which was great :)! My fiance absolutely loved the pineapple hot sake and I think we are gonna go back quite soon. 10/10 for this place!! read more

I dine in and order from here often. My only critiques is that is is always FREEZING in the restaurant. I've dined in on a day wearing a t-shirt and shorts and although the staff was great and food was good, it was hard to enjoy because I was literally shivering while eating my meal. Even walking in I said to my partner (I wish I had a hoodie, even though it was 80 degrees outside) because it was just soooo cold. We paid an extra $2 per person to upgrade from steamed rice to fried rice. To start you can choose from onion soup or salad. We had the soup and it was pretty tasty. Visiting Syracuse for a few days for vacation. This gem was right by our hotel. Offers outdoor seating and the staff was really friendly. Accommodated for a family of 6 and also gave us a free appetizer; a volcano roll. Really delicious. We had ordered the edamame, miso soup, Tom yum soup, salad, katsudon and unagidon. The food was great. Fresh, and our favorite was probably the Tom yum soup. Unagidon, no complaints. The only complaint I would have was my girlfriends katsudon did not look or taste like traditional katsudon. It was just an omelette and pork katsu over rice. Traditional katsudon would have the egg cooked with the pork katsu over rice. Their katsudon tasted like three separate things and didn't come together as a dish. Aside from that the food was good. Not the best we've had but it definitely hits the spot. read more

As I had stated in my previous review, my fiancé and I are very picky about sushi. The owner reached out to me personally to offer a gift certificate to come back and try again for the 3rd time. This was very nice and showed great care they have for their customers. The sushi was better than last time but still not amazing. The rice was a little gummy, which is certainly a step up from falling apart everywhere. I loved the free roll they gave us (I think it was a volcano roll)!! My sushi entree was good, I love sashimi so I decided to try it here. The lunch selection was okay. I wish they had an a la carte menu for sashimi. We ordered the spring rolls, which were nice, but smaller than expected and the miso eggplants. The eggplant was bitter, I knew it wasn't a Chinese or Japanese eggplant because of its size and that worked against it, the top part of it was fantastic in flavor, but it was a bit chewier and bitter on the bottom. We didn't end up finishing it, but the manager was kind enough to take it off our bill. This place has amazing service, they pay attention to their customers needs and I wish I was amazed by their sushi. I may come back and try their non-sushi or hibachi menu one more time because I hate to not return to a restaurant with such great service. I ordered delivery from them, three rolls and four pieces of sushi. They did not have the time (or want) to make the sub-ingredients and just decided to refund those portions without offering substitutions. I was expecting one of the rolls to have ingredients that were fried not the entire roll. The heat of the frying liquified the cream cheese causing it all to mix together and drown out the individual ingredients. The Sushi piece with roe on top was slip-shod put together with much of the roe on the side or on the lettuce. Finally, the quality of the fresh red snapper was suspect. read more

This is one of my favorite places to get sushi. I think the prices are reasonable the selection is great. There is something for everyone. I feel like the service and the freshness of the fish is always great. I love coming here. And I've never had to wait for a table even when the place is packed. Definitely some go to dishes that I get are the sea weed salad, the shrimp tempura appetizer, and their tonkatsu plate. Literally the worst Japanese restaurant experience I've ever had. Walked into the hibachi restaurant and they informed us they had no hibachi chefs. So you can pay the 27.99 hibachi price for the dishes without the entertainment. No cellular service to pull up the menus, and they had no physical menus. I didn't try the sushi- if they have staffing challenges I certainly don't want to experiment with their sushi. Really just wanted to leave and go to the pizza place across the street.
