Let me preface by saying I've been to a number of Hibachi restaurants. Each with their own great qualities and down falls. But Mitsuba was easily the best experience we've had at a Hibachi restaurant hands down. We tried their Volcano roll, which was out of this world. We ordered the Emperor Deluxe hibachi dinner, which you cannot beat the price on for a shared dinner. It's a ton of food, all well cooked, and the chef (both times we've been here) has been fantastic and engaging. My 3-yr old did not handle the flames so well, but they were so great about getting him laughing and clapping through out the rest of dinner. And let's talk about the decor for just a moment. Many hibachi restaurants are too either bright lights, or cliched feeling. Mitsuba is elegantly decorated with hints of the japanese theme done extraordinarily well. At first I was a little hesitant that Mitsuba does both hibachi and sushi- but they actually do both pretty well! There's really two separate seating areas/atmospheres- a typical dining room and another room with tables for hibachi. I went here for a Yelp Elite event and tried both the sushi and hibachi and especially enjoyed the volcano roll, nigiri, and mochi ice cream. The menu is pretty extensive so there's a lot to choose from. It's definitely worth a try and is probably some of the best sushi I've had in the Syracuse area. read more

I came here with my boyfriend and his parents for their first hibachi experience. I don't think they knew what they were getting themselves into, but we all thoroughly enjoyed the show and the food! They had a decent house Cabernet, and were able to accommodate my gluten allergy and cook all of my food in gluten free soy sauce (there was another gluten free customer at our table, so they asked and cooked everyone's meal in the gluten free soy sauce). I saw the chef pick up his cell phone (major fomite) as he continued prepping the food with his other hand, and he didn't even wash his hands after he hung up and went back to using both hands to make my sushi. Also, my raw fish was warm, which was a bit concerning to me. Finally, my California rolls contained bits of cucumber skin which made them very chewy and bitter. Only redeeming quality was that they offer many deals/coupons and always give a free volcano roll... however, the high risk of germs and food-bourne illnesses due to poor chef & kitchen hygiene is not worth the slight discount to me. A girlfriend and I stopped in for a quick cocktail and sushi at the bar. I liked the clean, modern decor and calming low lights. The atmosphere was very chill. At the bar we sampled some complimentary sushi and even a cocktail sample; before our cucumber sake martinis and rockstar rolls. First, let me say that the sushi at Mitsuba is a thumbs up. The rest might not be as good. Our experience: My husband and I went for date night and wanted to eat outside. We were asked hibachi or dinner and when we said dinner we were immediately ushered to a table inside. We asked if it was ok to eat outside and our hostess said yes, apologized and walked us to the outter dining area. We ordered two sushi dishes and two entrees. The young lady who took our order scribbled it down on paper and came back 10 minutes later saying she couldn't read her handwriting and asked for the order again. No big deal. Reordered. My husband's entree came with a salad and he wasnt given a fork, which I thought odd. Not that using chopsticks for the salad was hard but it isnt really the right utensil for salad in my opinion, but thats me. Our entrees came out next, which we were also confused about as sushi typically comes out before entree plus one of our sushi rolls was listed as an appetaizer..... Ok. No biggy? We started eating our entrees. I got the Katsu Don, he got shrimp tempura with rice. The pork in the Katsu Don was dark and dry. My husband's tempura was great though--they were HUGE and perfectly coated--so I ended up picking off his plate and he helped eat some of mine. All in all, I think Mitsuba is a good place for sushi. I would likely go back but probably steer clear of the regular entrees and stick to the sushi/seafood. read more

This was the third hibachi restaurant I've tried in the Syracuse area and is definitely my favorite. It was relatively busy but my group and I were seated fairly quickly. The waiter informed us that they were understaffed and that it would be a 30-40 minute wait before our chef prepared our food. That was frustrating considering my friends and I were starving, but they provided us with vegetable tempura on the house to hold us over. Once the chef came, the experience was great. He was very fun and entertaining. I ordered the filet mignon with fried rice and everything was fantastic and cooked perfectly. The prices were pretty average compared to other hibachi restaurants in the area. I definitely recommend this restaurant for a fun dining experience! read more

My wife ordered 3 dinners. I had no idea what was ordered when I picked it up but they only gave us 2 of the dinners she ordered but only charged for those 2. People make mistakes...we can make it work. Then we open the bento box and there is no roll. We called to let them know about all of this and ask for a partial refund. The response was that the person packing the meals remembers putting it in the box and they don't do partial refunds. Not very good customer service. I guess either my roll at itself or I'm a liar. We've been to Mitsuba a hand full of times but won't be going back. They could have saved themselves a bad review and the loss of a customer for a $5 refund. read more

Once a agin, another wonderful experience at my favorite hibachi and steakhouse Mitsuba. From start to finish, the staff is excellent and caring to your every need. Start at the bar for a nice refreshing drink as you wait for the hibachi to open. You get free sushi with your drink order, too! Two stars for three reasons. 1. Their website i ordered told me to pick up at a dead end location 20 minutes out . Only realized after reaching a postal sorting facility that it was the wrong place. Theybtook the order then gave a link to directions which took directly to Google maps which guided me to the wrong place. 2. The website gave options for spicy and it did not have any charge where as tempura was an upcharge. Finally i reached the place and they said you need to pay another dollar. I was already annoyed with them sending me to the wrong place and i said i dont want it. They opened the pack and took two small sauce out of it and okay then. I said no out of principle. You cant let me order it and then when i show up surprise me even if it is only a dollar. Very cheap. 3. The tempura my daughter got had a hair cooked into it. She was disgusted. So was I. Threw away what was left, which was more than half. 3a. Was missing a soup and a salad. For a place that count pennies, how do you miss that? Oh right it favors you. The sushi i got was acceptable but it had so much rice on it that it had the classic chinese sushi feel, not the authentic Japanese sushi which is done properly with no hair to be had. Great Sushi spot in Camillus. I'll be the first to admit, Mitsuba had its growing pains. The first two times we went, the service was terrible. Very slow, and drinks were inconsistent. But we kept trying it, given its close proximity to our house. Sure enough, they got much better. Last few times we went were perfect. The rolls here are delicious, as have been our hibachi meals. Overall, definitely one of the better sushi places in Syracuse, and certainly the best on this side of town! Will absolutely return. Get the volcano roll! read more

Oh wow Mitsuba, where do I begin?! Let me start by saying that my boyfriend and I have probably tried nearly every Japanese spot in and around Syracuse, and Mitsuba stands out in a league of its own, by a mile. We haven't yet tried hibachi, but the sushi is fresh and well made every single time. Appetizers are always delicious, and they are always generous with a complimentary app. One of things that truly makes this place stand out is the service. The wait staff is on top of everything, food comes fast and servers are very friendly. Not to mention the place seems to be impeccably clean which is always important to me in a sushi place. I don't think I have seen this of a high level of service at another sushi/hibachi place in Syracuse. Our stomachs have left highly satisfied every single time! read more

Very disappointing. It was pretty good when we went to the restaurant but when we ordered delivery it was awful. The quantity was soooooo small I could not believe it! We've tried pretty much all the Japanese restaurants in the Syracuse area and this might just be the best. Flavors were delicious in everything: the octopus appetizer, the tuna tartar, the crispy duck salad. We got a few pieces of sushi, which were excellent, and several of their speciality rolls, all of which were marvellous (the Mohawk roll, which is a dressed up eel roll, was especially great). My signature cocktail which was very tasty, served in a beautiful Martini glass, and my husband's sake was also very good. The service (on a Sunday night) was attentive. The decor is lovely. Server was pleasant and efficient, she took our order quickly and brought appetizers in a timely fashion. There was a large group so we had to wait a little while for the hibachi chef, but the wait was welcomed because it gave us time to digest our soup/salad/sushi apps. Love the place, went there about 4 times now the past month. I've always had the hibachi, and it has always been great! The sushi were also good. Few complaints. The sushi didn't come with any wasabi-mayo. The yum-yum sauce (I think that is what it is called) is pretty good with the sushi though. The salad that comes with the hibachi sometimes is doused in sauce. I ate at the bar because they were so busy Saturday night. Emily waited on us . I marveled at how she remembered customers names and what they were drinking. It was cute and kind of like a game to her. The young man next to me boasted to a friend that he had not been there in over a month and was so impressed she remembered his name and drink and his girlfriends too. I know that I previously left a review but a year later this place is still great. With the exception of New Years Eve, my husband and I have never made a reservation. No matter when we stop in, they always find a seat for us at a hibachi table AND are super friendly about it. Since finding Mitsuba my husband and I no longer go to any other competitors in CNY. I'm really picky about any fat on my chicken and steak- both are always trimmed really well here. We've been here 5 or 6 times now and have never had a bad meal or service experience.
