So after settling in line and realizing we were in for the long haul-my breakfast burrito craving instincts started kicking in,so I jumped on my phone and opened Yelp and saw this interesting looking spot wasn't too far away. With my spot secure in line by my buddy,I jumped in my car and headed to Taqueria California in Windsor. The shop is located in a multi tenant shopping center so parking is zero issue. Walking in I was greeted by the amazing smell of breakfast meats cooking with those beautiful Mexican spices,I knew I was in the right spot. The very friendly staff took my order of 2 breakfast burritos-I got a Bacon version and a Chorizo version-they cost $13.00 each Both came with a green and red sauce on the side and also a complimentary small bag of chips. I ended up trying a little bit of the bacon burrito, since it was my friends,it was pretty good and one can never go wrong with a bacon breakfast burrito-but honestly my chorizo burrito was amazing. It was perfectly seasoned-not overly greasy-and then paired with the two salsa-each bite was better than the next. The potatoes went so well with the eggs and chorizo and cheese-I enjoyed it very much. This was the perfect meal to start off what ended up being a big day of beer drinking at the brewery. In closing-if you ever find yourself in the Windsor area and are craving a breakfast burrito-I give this shop 2 major thumbs up and guarantee you will enjoy your meal from Taqueria California.

I remember coming here when I was younger for the burritos because as everyone says they are very large and pretty flavorful. I have never had the nachos here until yesterday. I will say that the spot gives you a lot of meat for the super nachos in comparison to other Mexican restaurants and the meat is very flavorful. I do have to say, that i did pickup and the nachos got soggy within like 10 minutes of me getting home. It was nice that they gave you chips because you could use the chips that they gave you to dip into and eat instead of tortilla chips in the bowl. I thought the food was good however, I was not a fan of the tortilla chips in this plate. I feel like some of them were really soggy, which I did not enjoy. Also, some of them tasted kind of stale but I don't know if that's just because they were soggy. Service was all right. Normally, I understand when the staff is short, especially if they are busy, but this was in the case here they were pretty empty. There was almost nobody there, and they were just kind of short with me. I also tried an agua of Jamaica and it was the healthiest one I've ever had in my life. No sugar whatsoever. Of course everyone has their preference. I prefer a little bit of sugar in mine. I'm not sure if it's because of the new ownership but honestly, I probably wouldn't come back or order here again unfortunately.

The menu has a nice variety of dishes from breakfast items to salads, molcajetes, tortas, quesadillas, chimichangas, seafood, and other traditional entrees. I ordered my regular Rafa's burrito with whole black beans (hold the sour cream). This burrito comes with three kinds of meat (grilled chicken, carne asada, and carnitas). My friend ordered the shrimp tostada with a side of guacamole. I was excited to take a bite of my burrito but when I did, I noticed it didn't taste like what I remembered. It was dry and the cook may have forgotten to add the guacamole and cheese. In the past I had always requested they hold the sour cream so this order was no different. My friend enjoyed every bite of her shrimp tostada so I was happy she had a good first visit to this cozy Mexican restaurant. The ambiance is festive and pleasant, the interior is clean. We had ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito, a mango habanero power bowl, and 3 street tacos (birria/lengua/cabeza). The tacos were pretty good but would've probably been better fresh or on location. There wasn't any salsa in the bag so not any good ways to accentuate or gel things together. The chorizo burrito was clean. We really liked how it wasn't overly oily and didn't feel heavy after eating. The mango habanero power bowl hit the mark. It had a nice light sweetness from the mango and the heat came in at the end but didn't punch too hard. It was a good amount of food as well so I was able to save some for later. Solid meal, would be interested to try things on location.
