Before I start my review: DO NOT DINE IN I have been here several times over the last three years and it is obvious they do not care about the customers eat in experience. Music is blaring and it is really hot and also humid. And when when I say "music" I mean whatever the counter person decides to listen to at that moment. Also, the spacing of the tables makes no sense. It's obvious they had furniture and just made it fit. Ok....... The food is amazing. Vegetarians rejoice! Many options abound! They also offer the pasta gluten free and are careful to mark in to go bags. I would strongly recommend visiting, but only to take your bounty and enjoy it elsewhere. read more

Mix N Mac is a treat, tucked away in the corner of a typically empty shopping plaza. It's a place I've visited quite a few times while in the area, as well as recommended to others, and I've never been disappointed by their vast menu options. I don't typically think of leaving a review for places I enjoy, but I felt compelled after my last two experiences. The first was about a month ago. It was a Saturday night and I was waiting for my to-go order to be ready. I had not called ahead, as usually the wait time isn't bad at all. After 15-20 minutes went by, I became a little concerned. Then I saw someone come in, order, and leave in after just 5 minutes. I asked if my meal was ready, and after the staff looked around confused, they realized my meal had been ready all along and they never let me know. I'm pretty easy going and I understand mistakes happen, but I was a little bothered that I would have to reheat the meal when I got home. Tonight, I decided to call ahead my order, knowing it could be another busy night. I was on hold for 6 minutes before I hung up. The young man who answered the phone hadn't even taken my order yet, nor did he pick the phone back up just to let me know it would be another few minutes. I wanted to leave a review because this place is pretty great. I love the menu options and how creative they can be, and I've never been disappointed with the food quality. At this point, however, I'm not sure I'll return or recommend this place with the poor service I've received lately. read more

I've owed this place a review for years now, it's time I deliver on it. This a fantastic local eatery, delivering the best Mac and Cheese in the Hudson Valley. The variety of different kinds of Mac, all delicious combos. The good bang for your buck, the food filling you up just right. We drove up to Middletown from NYC to visit a friend and to also help him move some of stuff back home. Along the way to Middletown, I decided to browse around on the yelp app for some places to eat in his area and the first thing on top of the list was Mix N Mac. I called my pal while we're on the road to find out if he's been there before and he confirmed that it's a good place to eat. When we arrived, we got our orders in and it did not disappoint! Fiery Steak - This mac n cheese was pretty darn good. Please excuse my language, but this isn't your pussy ass hipster take on mac n cheese. There's a bunch of mac n cheese spots all over the city and all of their spicy flavors suck. After a few bites of Mix N Mac's Fiery steak, it really started to fire up my mouth. The fiery steak mac n cheese has some spicy pepper blend along with some broccoli. They also top your dish with bread crumbs (your choice). It was a good but I'm not sure if I want to order this again. The spices were spot on but I never imagined myself sweating and getting this hot over mac n cheese. It's a good choice if you plan on sharing it. Scampi - The scampi mac n cheese was spot on. Good flavors, creamy cheesy rich. Sprinkling the bread crumbs on top is like sprinkling crack. It makes the dish complete. The roasted garlic, parmesan, and lemon parsley flavors were all there. This one certainly didn't disappoint for just $8 bucks. Alfredo - I think my friend ordered alfredo. I sampled it. Nothing crazy. Good creamy alfredo sauce with cheese and bread crumbs. Lobster - My other friend ordered the lobster mac n cheese. This one cost a little bit more than others. It's $14. I sampled it and enjoyed it. My pal didn't like it for some reason. He said it's too cheesy but what do you expect when you're ordering mac n CHEESE. But anyway, I respect everybody's personal opinion when it comes to food. Everyone has different taste buds. For me, it tasted just fine but if I had a choice, I wouldn't of ordered it simply because I'm not gonna pay more than $10 bucks for mac n cheese regardless if it has lobster in it or not. After all, we're here for just a quick bite. Fried Mac & Cheese Balls - I can't remember which flavor my friend ordered but this stuff was fried crack. Outside is nice and crispy while the inside remains creamy and cheesy. There's none of that overcooked or excessively burnt cheese texture in any of the things we ordered. Verdict - I really liked this joint. It's easily my favorite mac n cheese spot now. Their portions are fair and reasonable for the price they charge. S'Mac in the city sucks big time compare to Mix N Mac. S'mac servings taste like melted plastic for cheese. Mix N Mac serves up creamy richness. The wait times weren't long at all and most of the beverages are priced at $2. The service was great. The young lady behind the counter was more than helpful and really polite. They also have weekly specials. The only downside I would say about Mix N Mac is probably their seating arrangement. It's a pretty small restaurant with not a lot of tables and chairs especially if you plan on coming with larger groups. Other than that, Mix N Mac is a fantastic place to enjoy some great mac n cheese. I'll definitely come back again and try another one or perhaps literally "Mix N Mac" my own. read more

I recently went this past weekend with a close friend to celebrate her birthday and our love for Mac and cheese! We were not disappointed! She had the cheddar and bacon Mac and cheese balls and I had the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese. Omg!!! She was so happy with the fried balls. They came out crispy and so yummy. I had the personal sized buffalo chicken Mac and cheese and it was huge! I only ate half of it cause I didn't want to be overly full. I felt guilty about coming with out my husband so I got him a personal lobster Mac and cheese and my friend ordered extra balls for the road. They are quick, tasty, and the price is amazing. Five elbows! I just tried MNM for the first time with my girlfriend, and I can't believe someplace this cool exists in Middletown. When we walked in the door we were greeted by a clever mac n' cheese decor, an enticing smell of mac n' cheese in the air, and a mind-blowingly long list of mac n' cheese selections. When we placed our orders, we were impressed by the operators' friendliness, enthusiasm, and knowledge of mac n' cheese. For dinner I created my own mac mix with chicken and some veggies while my girlfriend opted for the Buffalo Chicken mac. We appetized with the fried mac balls which are CRAZY good. The macs were delicious: creamy sauce, bread crumbs baked to a perfect crisp on top, and yummy chicken and veggies (or whatever else you choose) mixed in. Also, the entrees came in trays which would be perfect for reheating if you can't finish the whole thing (and they really give you a generous helping for the $). We look forward to coming back and working our way through all those different menu items. Kudos to the MNM folks for a great idea and great mac n' cheese. read more

Gormet Mac & Cheese in Middletown, NY??? WTF I had been seeing little signs on the roadside for this place but never really paid them much attention. Well after driving by a few times, I finally stopped in and man am I glad I did. The dude that runs the place is all business when it comes to Mac N Cheese. Place was a little busy so there was a little bit of a wait but all the dishes are made fresh so it's def worth the wait. I ordered the Special which was Peppercorn Steak Mac N' Cheese and the DW went with the Garlic Shrimp Scampi. I devoured mine and then went to work on her leftovers. DW loved it so much she went back a few days later (without me :-( and had the Fried Mac n Cheese balls. She did leave me one to taste, which even cold out of the fridge the next day was pretty tasty. Will def be revisiting this place to try some of the other artistic works that they create with Macaroni and Cheese. I was going to give it 4 stars, but I feel I really need to offset the person that just gave it one star, there is no way it deserves that! read more

I have wanted to try it since it opened and finally got over to that side of Middletown today, and I was not disappointed. They owners are super friendly and helpful, not to mention awesome cooks. The buffalo mac and cheese was a little tray of heaven! Not to mention the fried mac balls---amazing! I knew I couldn't eat all that food by myself but boy was it hard to share! I will most definitely be a repeat customer, and I can't wait to go back. Loved them!!! Still do but last experience was not the best. Quality seemed to have gone down a bit since my last visit. It was my daughters bday (12) and it is her favorite place. I had the lobster mac and was not nearly as good as previous visits. Only 4 pieces of lobster in the whole thing, very dry, virtually no sauce. Seemed to be the family consensus- very dry in all of them. Spent $78 on the family overall (5 people). We came in with some balloons for her and some small presents (there was no questioning this was a real bday) and asked if by chance they do anything for birthdays and were told they did not. No big deal, we were still eating there anyways as this is her favorite place but it was somewhat surprising. Not a cookie or anything - again, not bad, but surprising. read more

I've been to a couple of other mac and cheese places and this was, hands down, the best! The menu had a lot of really interesting dishes. One of the things I don't like about most mac and cheese places is that there is too much in the mixes. There's usually that one or two extra add ins that aren't necessary and throw it all off. Not the case here. I had the scampi mozzarella and it was perfect. My biggest problem is that I didn't get a second to take home for later! I was there with my wife and daughter and all three of us loved our choices. The place is a little small, and not much on decor, but the staff was super friendly and helpful in explaining the combinations. Holy goodness on a tray Batman!!!! A friend of mine introduced me to M&M a while ago, I didn't see what all the hype was about - then again, I had never had M&M so what the hell did I know? With one, small, singular, decadent bite - I understood. There are so many good options and let me say that it does not matter what you get, it is going to be amazing. Personally I am in LOVE with the Lobster Mac but I went with a few new converts earlier today and so I got to try theirs as well. I had the Honey Mustard Chicken Mac. I would tell you about it but the words I would need to describe how AMAZING it was are not the kind of words that small children should see - so as this is a public post I will have to refrain! My friends who came with got the Broccoli Mac & the Parm Cheese Mac, to which I got to try both - loved mine the best but they too were very, very, very good. Got the sample set of cheese balls and to be honest the one I was the most nervous about trying (the Cranberry Mac & Cheese ball) was my favorite. I N-E-V-E-R would have thought to ever put those ingredients together. This place is AMAZING. So many varieties. I have tried the Swiss and mushroom, buff chicken, pesto, and chicken bacon ranch. The Swiss and mushroom is easily my favorite they cook it with port wine and its creamy and full of flavor. There's so many more fun ones to pick from and you can also make your own. To say Celiac Friendly would be an understatement. Ask for whatever they have in flavor variation and let them know that you are gluten free and you will get it, it's that simple. MIX N MAC!!!! This place is awesome. The employees are always attentive, kind and informative. The food is delicious (and I love that they sell peach Joe's tea!) The only downside: i feel the space for inside dining is a bit tight. The tables are very close together, you're practically sitting on the lap of the people next to you. I will preface this by saying, I do not normally like mac n cheese. It's one of those things I was forced to eat, and never really liked as a kid. Now that that is out of the way, this place makes fantastic mac. I ordered the honey mustard chicken, and basically had to fight off my 4 year-old so he would stop eating my food. We also had the lobster mac and the veggie mac, both of which were great. The staff was super friendly, food was great, their awning needs a revamp, but otherwise, fantastic. They seriously need a bigger location, as seating is very limited. We will definitely be returning. read more

Wow, this place is great! Mac and cheese is delicious with so many options to choose from! The size of the personal mac is quite large and filling, so you could easily split it between two people. My husband and I had the chicken bacon ranch and the big mic, both of which were fantastic! The rice pudding was great and my husband loved the garlic nots, which was fried mac and cheese covered with garlic butter and crushed red pepper flakes. I want to give a big shoutout to this place for offering gluten free mac and cheese! Any combination can be made gluten free for a $2 upcharge! I hadn't had mac and cheese for over a year before I came here. I actually didn't know they offered gluten free mac and cheese. Had I known, I would have came here much sooner. I even told the woman that they should advertise it more and she kind of shrugged me off. Well, just a suggestion. This place is kind of a hybrid between a fast food and sit down restaurant. You order and pay at the counter, but then you have to wait like 15 minutes for your food. The place is really small, when we got there at 1pm on a Monday there was only one table open. And it was freezing in there. I thought the service was friendly. Except for when my gluten free mac and cheese was done and the woman joked "The gluten free one has extra bread crumbs on it, right?"... not a funny joke for someone with a food allergy. But whatever, she acknowledged it was probably a bad joke (it was.) I got the veggie mac and cheese and it was really, really good. It was very cheesy and the gluten free pasta had such a great consistency, I started to panic that it actually was gluten (It wasn't) My mother ordered the chicken parm mac and cheese, which she said was great, but didn't taste anything like chicken parm. She tried some of mine and said she liked mine better and couldn't taste the different in the noodles. I'm actually writing this while eating my leftovers, and the noodles don't even get soggy when you heat them back up! (Which tends to happen a lot with gluten free noodles.) It seems to be one of those standard things which everybody eats, which sort of confounds me a little bit. This was only the second time in my life that I've ever eaten it. So... I should've thought my choice through a little more, I think. I went for the 'cheeseburger' option, and as soon as it arrived I thought "oh, wait..." - it was a pretty generous tray of quite appetizing-looking mac & cheese, mixed with ground beef, american cheese, caramelised onion and roasted tomato with a pickle on top, and it tasted precisely like a McDonalds cheeseburger. Bizarre, and not really what I was after - but I completely understand why people love this idea. My wife ordered the 'vegetable' version which was totally different, a very delicious cream sauce with Italian seasoning, and she loved it. If you like mac & cheese, Mix N Mac is essentially heaven. If you don't - and I throw my hands up here, I'm not a fan - it won't convert you but it's far from the gluttonous lardfest you'd expect. It's a clean, pleasant little place, and while the food is ridiculously filling - one order should fill up two people very comfortably, in my opinion - it isn't as OTT as it could've been, and they clearly know what they're doing in the kitchen. I was looking for take out and saw the Mix N Mac sign in a strip mall, so I decided to check it out. When I walked in, I couldn't believe all the mac and cheese choices they offered (Chipotle BBQ Chicken, Cheeseburger, and Lobster, just to name a few)! It took me several minutes to figure out what I wanted to order, but I finally decided on the Scampi with whole grain noodles, which had shrimp, mozzarella cheese, roasted garlic, parmesan, lemon, and parsley with some toasted breadcrumbs sprinkled on top. By the time I got home with my meal, its aroma had made me RAVENOUS and when I dug in, it was delicious! Creamy, cheesy, with a good portion of shrimp, and very flavorful. I thought it was a very satisfying meal. If I lived in Middletown, I'd be here all the time for lunch or dinner, even though mac and cheese isn't exactly the healthiest option out there. read more
