Great in concept and execution, and I love that I can customize my own creation to my liking, but the price is pretty steep. I ordered kale, quinoa, beets, feta, and walnuts, and although the signboard above listed the price as $8.95, I was charged $9.30 BEFORE taxes. It's a matter of principle that a business should be upfront about it's pricing. My other major complaint is that after eating the salad about three hours later I was experiencing major gastrointestinal distress. I'm seriously hoping it wasn't the salad but I really didn't eat anything else that day. Anyhow, consider it a yellow flag. Yummm. finally that lunch place, that specializes in my favorite...salads! Folks, this is no ordinary sizzler's salad bar. the scene is as glam as the ingredients, perf for lunches with coworkers or alone... you can sit in at high tables to avoid the scene or outside and bask in the sun and people watch while you indulge in organic delights that won't leave you passing out at your desk by 3pm or blowing your so-called diet (even though the portions are huge). I like the idea that Mixt Greens embodies: organic, healthy, and environmentally-friendly food. Although I'd have to agree with other yelpers, the prices are bit a steep but it fits the location. I like most of their salad combos; I haven't tried their sandwiches but they look delicious too. It's also nice that you can make your own salad combo. One negative is the long lines...despite the salad mixers & cashiers working with rapid efficiency, there's a long line out the door during lunch hour. read more

Great, inventive, fresh salads. Really friendly chefs. Huge portions that although they are very leafy are large enough to be filling. A fantastic lunch option with great ingerdients that are fresh, organic and locally sourced. Oh, and delicious. Expensive, but not crazy expensive given the portion size and where you are. You'd pay $15 easily for the same salad in a restaurant. Three negatives: One: The calorie counts are *really* confusing as to whether they include dressing or not - notices in the store don't match up to online. Now I'm no paranoid, calorie-counting obsessive but hey, part of the reason I'm having salad for lunch is to feel healthier, so I want to be sure I'm not throwing down the calorie equivalent of a burrito anyway. Those dressings look pretty heavy (and taste fantastic). Two: The wait - the line is always WAY too long, so I often get the ready-prepped salads unless I really feel like wasting ten minutes checking Twitter on my BlackBerry. Three: The ready-prepped salads pretty much run out by 12.30, and ofr some reason they haven't had the Chicken Caesar the last few days - please bring it back!!!! And maybe restock the whole cooler a few more times after the initial 11.30am rush? Oh, and they've been out of pine nuts for about three months now, which means one of my favourite salads (The Madison) is about 20% less awesome. read more

I just noticed that I haven't written any reviews in 2010, so since I went to lunch here today, it will now be reviewed. :) Sitting and eating here is for people who love submarine duty and other such claustrophobic pursuits, so get it to go - they ensure me that everything will biodegrade sooner rather than later (like a diaper?) They're also always out of pine nuts, so why the dry erase board stating that is there, I don't know - it should be an engraved plaque. But! If you want a BIG-ASS salad with anything you could imagine, this is the place. The line goes fairly rapidly - if you can stand the financial people discussing "accounts" and "deals"...so important. Around 7 bucks for me when I go. Not bad for downtown...and I'm stuffed, which is hard to do! read more

My review is totally based on value here. The salads are good, ingredients fresh, service is usually good. But for $10+ for a counter service lunch, it's just okay. Don't get me wrong, I go here at least once a week for lunch, I just hate myself everytime I do. If we're just talking about the food, most of the time the salads are good. I've had a few bad experiences, but those are rare. I don't really enjoy their sandwiches - there are plenty of places much better in the area. All in all, if you want a salad, there are a number of places that give you more bang for your buck. This place may have more to choose from, but at what cost? read more

As if it weren't enough that the salads are simply delicious, this place is getting as close to "environmentally friendly" as a take-out place can be. Yes, there is always a long line (as in, out the door). But it moves swiftly and the interior of the shop is very open so you don't feel claustrophobic like at other soup/salad take-out places downtown I won't mention! It is absolutely worth a few extra dollars to pick up your lunch from here if you are a person who appreciates a good salad with fresh, wholesome ingredients. And being in the Financial District, just imagine the number of DB boys & girls the poor workers have to deal with on a regular basis - the fact that you still get a smile and friendly greeting is a bonus. read more

I brought it back and the manager personally made me a new salad, they offered me a drink while I waited, we're so nice, etc. Incredible customer service is worth waiting in a line around the block. i was one of their first customers when they opened and now they have expanded to two locations. awesome. this was one of my favorite lunch spots when i worked in the city, and i so wish there was something comparable down here in cupertino. alas, i will have to get my mixt greens fix whenever i work in our sf office for the day. their ingredients are fresh and organically grown. what's more, your salads are made to order. if you're too busy to stand in iine, you can grab a pre-packaged salad -- they offer a great selection to cater to most taste preferences. my personal faves were fusion and the madison salads. i also love the simple, minimalistic decor, the nice ambiance, and their dedication to being eco-friendly. the place is cheerful, friendly, and their staff is very helpful and friendly. overall, a great dining experience. read more

I've been to Mixt Greens quite a bit, as I work nearby. Although it's overpriced, it used to be a go to location for a quick salad. After today, I'm done. They're customer service is non-existent. I ordered four salads online and went to pick them up. Not only did they not have it ready, they looked at me as though I had lost my mind. There was no interest in getting my order filled and I had to push them to make the salads -- which they got wrong. At no point did the cashier offer me anything for the screw up. I waited well over 35 minutes for the correct order. Today I went to grab a salad off the shelf using my filled punch card for a free one. I was told that they no longer accept those punch cards and that they could transfer my punches to a new card, but I couldn't use it today. When I pointed out that was ridiculous, the guy just looked at me with a blank stare. Yeah, I won't be using it because I won't be going back. For the price you pay for a salad (which is getting increasingly smaller by the week), they could at least provide a bit of customer service. I feel like it used to be much better. But at this point, it's just not worth the hassle. read more

Friendly, funny, efficient staff, amazing variety of ever changing salads and sandwiches, super fresh and delicious and even though they're usually pretty busy the line goes fast and they have an awesome outdoor area to eat in. Maybe 2.5 stars. Quality of ingredients are good but portions have gotten inconsistent over the 4 or so years since I first tried their salads on Sansome/Bush. This particular location, it seems that my salad portion and ratio between leafy greens and goodies is hit or miss depending on the person making it. The pre-made salads from their fridge are about half filled for the same price... bummer since I usually reach for those when the line is outrageously long. As for price, as always, the financial district will always be an extra $ just to cover their rent. If you love salad and having it your way, I'd say you like this place. Although I am a bit bias, nothing beets PLUTOS (in Davis and Irving, SF) this place comes to a nice second. The vegetarian and organic selections are quite impressive, and at this location between 1-2 you can have a nice lunch out on a closed street. Nope. This place is just a no. I walked in with my friend because she was telling me to try this place. I ordered the be wello salad and I have to say, I have never seen a salad place be so stingy with their ingredients. The whole box consisted with just their mixed greens. There must have been 3 pieces of chickpeas a tiny piece or two of the cucumber and onion and barely any quinoa. Like seriously?! I paid over $10 for a box greens. Ok, so first let me say that I frequent this place often, and their salads are very good quality....all the ingredients are fresh and extremely delicious. I do, however, have a few problems with this place, which is why I cannot give it more than 3 stars. The first is that it takes FOREVER to get served! I have never waited in a longer line in the financial district than at this place. 30+ minutes to get a salad is just simply not worth it. Unless you work at a place where no one cares how long you're gone for lunch, you should think twice before coming here. Also, do they seriously need to put THAT much lettuce in the salads? They put 2 salads-worth of lettuce into each one, and not only is it just wayyy too much, but it also drowns out all the toppings. I always find myself hand-picking huge amounts of lettuce out of bowls and throwing it away before I can actually enjoy my food. Who needs to eat that much anyway? They should be smaller AND cheaper. read more

Looking at the prices of the special salads can be a bit of a turn off but I opt to create my own salad which is a cheaper way to go and gives you the flexibility of adding what you like to your own salad. I design my salad with romaine hearts, cherry tomatoes, red onion, egg, avocado and applewood smoked bacon, topped with honey mustard vinaigrette. Yummm. As long as you don't order a salad with meat like chicken strips or steak, I find that your salad won't be too costly. Plus Mixt Greens offers a variety of salad ingredients and overall, the salad portions are huge. I like going over to Mixt Greens to see all of the many fresh greens and salad ingredients waiting to get mixt in those silver bowls handled by the salad maker folks. The line gets super long here during lunchtime so either come early or bring some patience. When you take your salad to go, it comes in this huge (and compostable) tub. My only issue with this place is that they aren't consistent with the amount of ingredients they add so depending on the salad maker, the ratio of ingredients in your salad will vary. read more

My assistant Aileen seriously hooked it up. Being a newly herbivore-skewed lunch eater has been very hard on my sanity....but this place shows me the light! To get it out of the way, yes it is overpriced. $10+ for a salad is MUCH, but the ingredient selection is organic, seasonal, and as wide as the eyes can see. I appreciate that their on-the-menu salads are unique assortments that you would not typically find elsewhere. Yesterday, I had both the Cowboy and seasonal Porky II... yes both for one meal. Like I said, I am adjusting to the herbivore-skewed lifestyle. They had run out of potatoes and sweet potatoes so I was able to substitute in any ingredient I wanted. These salads were tasty and far from being boring, which is how I typically view salads. Everything on their menu look so good that I am sure I'll be eating lunch here nonstop for at least a month. Furthermore, the design your own option just opens the door to a bazillion more possible tasty permutations that I can not even wrap my head around right now. Bottom line is this place is bomb for salads - think a cleaner version of Chipotle catering to the more health-conscious eaters. read more
