First time visiting this MIXT. I went on a weekday afternoon and there was a small wait. I was able to order the barbecue bowl and the staff was able to help me smoothly. Portions were reasonable relative to other locations. I would say this location is relatively consistent as with other MIXTs. Water was available in metal cups. I do miss those days when a big group of my colleagues and I ate here. Nowadays, I just order on the website and then pick it up. It will be ready on the shelf against the back wall by the time I walk over. It is very convenient. The only drawback is they don't toss the salad when you order online. Mixt Greens is my go to place for salads in the city. My one gripe with them is that every one of their locations is lunch only. That is unfortunate because sometimes I really get a craving for a healthy salad for dinner. The portions that Mixt Greens gives are huge. They completely stuff these huge plastic to go containers to the brim with generous portions of dressings and toppings. They are, in my opinion, very affordable for the amount served starting at $10. The best part though, is the customizability. I don't know of any other salad place that has such a large variety of toppings, greens, dressings and meats. Overall, Mixt Greens offers the best custom salads around and I will continue to go there whenever I'm in the mood for one. I'm rarely full after finishing one, and the only usefulness I've found is when I'm nutrient-light on the week and I've pushed lunch back late enough that a real meal might interfere with dinner plans. Then they bill you. Year-on-year the price goes up and the salad size goes down. They cling by their fingertips to single digits--most affordable basic option rests at $9.95--but then they add one of those dishonest "health mandate" surcharges on top and apply SF sales tax to the whole thing, so it's really $11.23. I've gone back periodically but every time I do I hate myself and remind myself not to go back again. I liked how organized the line is - there are paper menus at the beginning and end of the line along with a huge menu above the salad bar. The line moved fairly quickly. I was able to scan the entire menu before it was my turn to order. I got the Brooklyn salad with medium amount of dressing, but substituted the romaine for butter lettuce. This was a great and surprisingly filling salad. My only cons are the salad is overpriced (this is SF I suppose, and it's conveniently located) and my salad builder didn't look happy (I smiled at her but she didn't smile at all). read more

No complains about the taste and quality (tastes good) but the portion of the last two salads that I got were so small. My salad had a tiny scoop of chicken in it (counted 6 pieces of cube-sized chicken) and a small amount of peach. I think I'd get more out of a $17 salad. Price is a bit high, but the ingredients are always fresh, and the food leaves you full and guilt free. Which for me is priceless. My go to is the zesty grain bowl, made up of quinoa, grilled chicken, baby kale, mandarin oranges, avocado, and cabbage with a lemon herb dressing. It's light, tangy, and shockingly filling. It's also not like most salads with just a few strips of chicken. There is some serious protein present in these bad boys. Which is good. Because bulking season is right around the corner. Mixed Greens is my go to lunch spot in San Francisco. It would be my go to lunch spot in Austin too, but no one has had the vision to open one of these downtown-- yet. The selection of salad toppings is just amazing, and the dressings (there must be at least 12) are all fresh and made in-house. My favorite salad is the cowboy, with brussel sprouts. The blue cheese dressing is slightly spicy, but clearly blue cheese. My only complaint about MG is that the salad is not always consistent. There are occasions where the portion size is significantly smaller than my co-worker's or there are end pieces (uneatable) throughout my salad. There have even been the very occasional funky brown lettuce pieces, which just get picked out. On one occasion I actually took the salad back, and they made me another one without any prompting. So if you're going to be buying a $10+ salad, here is the place to do it. My absolute favorite thing about MG though is that they try to remain authentic to the product. The ceasar salad has actual anchovies, and not the cheap gross kind, but the more expensive white Spanish variety. They also have organic free-ranged chicken, steak, and even tuna. They have vegan options as well, and with the assortment of vegetables and dressings, even that vegan, gluten-free, no tofu friend will remain contented with the offerings. read more

First, I have to say that I'm not a big fan of salads. I know its cliche, but they just don't fill me up. As a starting off point, Mixt Greens isn't the place for me. To avoid salad hunger, I ordered off their sandwich menu. Clearly this menu exists for people like me, who have been tricked into going to a salad spot and need a different--dare I say, better?--option. I ordered the Disco sandwich, which comes with turkey, bacon, tomatoes, some sort of sauce, etc... It looked good, on paper. It should have stayed on the paper. The bread was bland, the turkey was bland, the toppings were fine, but bland. The sauce was overpowering, as if they knew that all their ingredients were bland and tried to make up for it. Also, they put your sandwich in this clear plastic box, and then fill it to the brim with their most bitter leaves. If I wanted a salad, I would have ordered it. I have Mixt feelings about Mixt Greens. On the one hand, I like salads. I'm vegetarian, you see. Of course, most of their salads are not vegetarian. But you can "make your own" (which means tell them what to put in it) and make lots of vegetarian combos. So these are excellent salads, the ingredients are high-quality and fresh and tasty, and the combinations are fairly gourmet. On the other hand, they are a bit pricey (expect to spend about $10), and they are mostly greens. Ok, the place is _called_ Mixt Greens, so that makes sense. But you're eating this salad forever and ever trying to eat all the greens. I like a salad that's more about the stuff than the greens. But, given the name, it's the focus of the place. So I probably can't dock them for that. Can I? They have a frequent buyer card. Buy 10 salads get one free. My coworkers love this place and use their cards. I've never gotten one. I've eaten here a few times and gotten the vegetarian salad, that has tofu, soba noodles, edamame. I like it quite a bit. One of these days I'll do a make your own, but that will take a lot of planning in advance, because there's no way I could read all the options and make a decision while I'm waiting in their long but very fast-moving line. read more

One of my favorite places to go when I'm looking for a *good* salad. $14 is pretty pricey for a to-go salad, but given how filling the salad is, the price is well justified. I would consider myself a big eater and the Bachelor's salad (steak, grilled onions, mixed greens, arugula, blue cheese, grilled potatoes) that I ordered is easily enough for two meals. Despite the long line that I had to wait in today during my visit, the line goes fairly quickly and I was in and out in 15 minutes. I've only been to Mixt Greens a handful of times and have only gotten the menu salads, so I can't say how good of value it is to put your own salad together. If you're looking for a good salad, look no further. To everyone complaining about the price... nobody's forcing you to eat at Mixt Greens. This is not a typical salad place. One definitely pays a premium for the seasonal, organic, quality that they offer. I love their maui salad ($12+). The ahi is lightly seared and fresh and is paired well with the mango citrus vinaigrette. This particular location has outdoor seating in the alley. Being pressed for time, I thought it was cool that you can order online, but when I tried to do it, there is a minimum $30 requirement and your order must be placed by 11 A.M. I ended up walking over, which wasn't a biggie, but the line during lunch was horrendous. I grabbed one of the pre-packaged salads (the Siam with Tofu) and jetted back to the office. The salad was pretty good; it tasted fresh and light. My insides felt great afterwards...like I just had COLONIC or something...but in a totally non-disgusting kind of way. However, after merely two hours, I was starving again. And wait. And wait. 10 minutes later, we were finally at the front, and it was like not knowing what combination could moderately improve leafy greens that make me feel like a farm animal. Seriously, I will never be model-thin because I can never just eat a salad. No amount of relatively healthy salad dressing can make it taste better, and that was no exception at Mixt Greens. Edamame, avocados and I can't even remember what else tasted bland in my big bowl of sad salad. Yes I know, there are ready-made salads and sandwiches. But it's like going to a steakhouse and not ordering steak. The whole point of Mixt Greens is to ice-cream-paint-job your lunch of salad. I come to Mixt Greens for a lil damage control--that is, after weeks of a steady maintenance of weight, stuffing myself endlessly of fried rice and pizza eventually catches up, and the jump in the scale confirms that feeling of guilt. Let it be known: I do not like eating salads as a meal. They're usually not hearty enough to tide me over till the next meal. Fortunately, the salads here are huge enough to be filling. If the hoard of organic greens don't fill you up, the toppings certainly will. I've found that regardless of who the salad maker is, they've all been consistent in providing generous portions of toppings. The candied walnuts are my favorite, and I've never strayed from the mixt greens. They're one of the few local restaurants that provide nutritional info, now available on their website. It's easy to spend $10+, but I've never spent more than the $7.76 total (now $7.88 with the sales tax increase) for one of their DIY salads, which is more than reasonable for the quality and quantity. If you want your specialty meat salads, you'll definitely be ponying up the dough. I don't know how any of the sandwiches taste, but they look skimpy for the price. I had to dock them for seeing scraps of ingredients in my salad every now and then that I didn't ask for. That's fine when it's half a cherry tomato or a slice of mango. This is my favorite location of Mixt Greens. I brought a friend here from NYC and she described the place as "very San Francisco." If that means rubbing elbows with eco-friendly salad lovers, then I guess she's correct :) You can't deny that all 3 of their stores get jam packed with fussy, impatient financial district types who constantly have their blackberries attached to their ears (myself included). However, the workers at this Mixt Greens never seem to let that get to them. I've always had the friendliest guys put together my salads, and I never feel rushed to be pushed through the line even when it's snaking out the door. If you're satisfied putting together your own ingredients and don't want any meat added, you can walk away with a $7 salad. Otherwise, some of their stuff gets pretty pricey. However, try to find another salad bar with ingredients as fresh as this in the financial district... You won't. And who could forget the fabulous cucumber water they have? This place is a little overpriced for what you get. That being said my salad was fresh, which is oh-so-important. The salad I got was "the bachelor." The balsamic dressing was really thick and didn't spread well, which was a quite frustrating. The toppings were also a little sparse for my taste.
