    My DYO salad ($11.95)
    Tatiana P.

Decided to stop by Mixt Santa Monica for lunch, and didn't regret it. They have endless options for salads. You can design your own or select from a ready menu. They also have sandwiches and warm bowls. I went with DYO so I could select what I like. It was great - good portion, tasted very good, and ingredients were fresh. I really liked the balsamic dressing with it. The restaurant was clean with nice decor. Fabian helped me and was wonderful.

Be-LEAF-me, @mixt is definitely a must try if you're looking for a salad in LA! I love how you can MIX things up with either their build your own and pre-fixed options, which are perfect if you're indecisive like I am. Their quality is consistent throughout both their Bay Area and LA chains, and I love how you can get unbelievably large portions with very fresh ingredients for very reasonable prices! My go-to's are the Mandarin salad and Mixt Crispy Chicken Sandwich, but their new Peachy salad definitely takes the spotlight, and I would highly recommend checking them out while peach season is in full swing. Featured here: Elote salad Peachy salad Mandarin salad Mixt crispy Crispy Cauliflower lemonade agua fresca All the employees are seriously so kind and helpful, and this is definitely a spot that I would bring my friends to for a casual hangout!

Love this place. Great ceasar and warm bowls. Their crispy cauliflower is so so good too. Carrot, turmeric, strawberry drink is also a win. Service is hit or miss but when it's a miss it's still a hit. Although they aren't super great with large orders for some reason. Sometimes literally something different than what you ordered lol, not even wrong just different. I love their sun room sitting area. Big and airy. I own a space close by and it's a go-to!

    DESIGN YOUR OWN SALAD
    Alyssa C.

Salads here are huge and love the variety they have!! I wasn't crazy about the marinated tofu and I wish the design your own salad came with a bit more of the toppings (they allow only 5 and don't put much of any of them on - as you can see). Their reciped salads might be a better choice! They seem to include more and aren't much more expensive. The service is pretty good, although that might depend on who's making your salad It's a peaceful spot, good for lunch or even for studying (saw a few people with their laptops out). Would definitely return!

Cowboy Salad with WRONG dressing... where's the chipotle honey drizzle??
    Kelly C.

This is a super expensive place .. for salad. Over $50 for two salads. So when the delivery comes and the order isn't correct-- it's super disappointing. There's also no way to contact the restaurant. Any issues with an order can only be pursued thru their "help" / contact via email (no chat avail) so if you have an incorrect order or something is missing -- you're forced to send an email, and then wait over 24 hours to hear anything (if you hear back at all..) When the order is correct the food IS good -- but it really depends on getting the right combination -- In this instance they omitted the chipotle honey drizzle that accompanies the "Cowboy" salad is really the star of the meal-- so to see it substituted with some orange thick gross "dressing" (it was so thick -- I couldn't even use it.). I contacted the company thru email over a week ago, received an auto-generated response and then it was never followed up. Thankfully there are many other options in downtown Santa Monica & I'd recommend going there or only going to Mixt in person so you can watch them make the salad.

First time coming here. Was thinking of getting a salad but went for the bowl! Quality ingredients and what's cool is you can see them make the food. Service was top notch with a cool dine in place. Will definitely come back

What a great salad spot! A good hidden study spot if the coffee shops are full. Leif really helped out and speed up the line. he's a super good worker especially for only being here for two weeks. Anyways, really enjoyed my experience here, the ambiance is great.

Good option for salad but the employees don't know what's in the dressings and they are drenched in sweat while making your salad.

The food is that noteworthy that you can be seated next to a very young blonde academy award nominee and leave as full one can get on pad thai, and their signature fried eggplant. Pros: + Good service + Clean place + Lots of vegetarian and vegan options + The Thai Fried Chicken was delicious and balanced! + Food presentation was excellent Cons: - Food was dry. - The Endive Cups were dense and needed some sauce. - The Mung Bean Croquette - although not bad - felt more like a fast food item; it too was dry and although the sauce and presentation were nice, it's not something to re-order. - The Meang Kham wasn't bad either, I appreciated the different flavors but for the price - as an appetizer - no. - The biggest negative were the prices. They were set as upscale, and fine dining, but the place was just average and the foods - at least what we ordered - not that good. Granted there were many options and the others might have been better, but I get the feeling this place is more about the food presentation rather than the quality of the food focused. For ~$100 (3 appetizers and 1 main entree) I left somewhat hungry. I feel there are hole-in-the wall vegan/vegetarian places that would be much better. It's a nice place but it's more show than substance (given the costs). 3.5/5

My go to is the Seoul bowl it's so good and perfectly marinated while still being health conscious 5/5. The newer tikka masala has been a fav lately- it's veggie based but the spices and flavor are on point, just as delicious as a non-vegan dish! I think with soy meat it could be even better, I'll see if that's an option next time, but this was 4.5/5. West coast shrimp side is really satisfying and savory. I rly should try more items here but it's hard to deviate from my favs haha. |[ s i p ]| Drinks are also decent but the star for me here is the food. While I am not at all vegan, it can be a fantastic change of pace when trying a cuisine that is not at all my regular routine. Happily, Variable has tons of choices, and we loved what we got. I was drawn towards the 'N Seoul Bowl' (Korean spicy plant based pork, house marinated Kimchi, organic edamame, steamed organic spinach, carrot, steamed broccoli, onion , organic shiitake, topped with green onion and sesame seeds and side organic quinoa). So good, a bit spicy, and so many flavors on the plate it was impossible to not only love it, but I could not finish it, either. That goes from all their dishes. They are big, and in our experience, it came out piping hot soon after ordering it. My companion tried the 'Indian Tikka Masala' (homemade Indian curry, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, yellow squash, potatoes, cabbage, chickpea, micro green, Served with blend wild Jasmin rice and Indian Flat Bread). Tastes so fresh, hearty, with just enough of a kick to it. I look forward to trying some of their other dishes, too. The burger that the table near us ordered looked fantastic. I gotta think that everything here is pretty dang great.

The space itself feels modernized as well - it's bright and airy with seats around the bar area as well as tables throughout. The food here is fresh and beautifully presented and in terms of pricing, the menu feels more than reasonable. I came in right around opening on a Saturday and got a seat right away at the bar. it wasn't that busy so the place was very chill. I was greeted and helped by the friendliest people from the hostess to the bartender. I was reminiscing with the bartender because part of the reason I've been wanting to come here is that I actually volunteered for a charity event for years that the chef - Susan Feniger is a huge part of. I really wanted to try their jackfruit tinga tacos (which are 100% vegan for those who care). I'm personally not vegan, but I thought these were very delicious with elements that gave the dish texture and made the flavors pop. I also loved the house made pickles that came with the dish. Although it was early in the day, I had to order a michelada. And it is really delicious here! To end the meal, I also got the dessert empanada (a la mode). The cheese and guava went so well together and the vanilla ice cream just made it all that much better. I came here expecting to like this place, but left loving it. Such a great experience. Since it was earlier on a Saturday, there was plenty of metered street parking nearby.

It is quite small though, since it's located near the corner bottom floor of a business building. Food was very good. We had scallop ceviche and fish ceviche for starters. Seafood tasted fresh and clean and had great citrus flavors. Fish ceviche had a bit of a kick and spice to it, so it's not ideal for someone who has acid reflux. For entree, I had the grilled carne asada steak, and it was delicious. It was cooked just right and had great seasonings. My only callout was that it lacked salt. I also really liked that the side beans had pork in it, so it's not the typical regular beans. Service was very friendly and attentive and orders came out at a good pace. Keep in mind, this is more upscale Mexican cuisine so portions might be smaller and pricing will be higher. I will definitely come back next time I'm in the area.
