Christmas Day. 12/25/2020 Was my only day off and I spent the whole morning calling different places if they were open and of course they are closed for the holidays. Understandable. I been working nonstop and haven't much brought any groceries for the past couple of months, been eating out or making food at work; so this is my fault for not preparing meals. BUT Miyako was here to safe the hangry me, spend a bit over $90 on food. Worth every penny. The staff was amazing, friendly and even got us a little Christmas gift and play Christmas music. This is the kind of services you see or experienced in Tokyo, Japan. I was blown away. I know they don't really open on Christmas but I guess this year was the exception. Honestly if the owner or the staff that is reading this review, I just wanted to say thank you times a billions. With Covid and dining in/dining out/ patio is constantly changing and you guys are doing everything you can to stay up to date, I really appreciated your work. First let me start with the long wait. It was hard to get straws and refills on water. There is an older lady that has a sour look on her face and she was very RUDE!!! The garlic, edamame was overpriced and it was not cooked thoroughly. The beer was on the warm side. The miso soup was very bitter ..... we ordered two rolls, and they were nothing to rave about. My wife and I went to Miyako when we were in the area last October and had a very nice dinner there, so when we ended up back in the neighborhood with the kids, I suggested we go back. My wife and daughter like the rolls, while my son and I usually stick to Nigiri. We ended up helping the gals out on their rolls this time. The nigiri was really good - good size, fresh and tasty. The rolls were very good as well - my wife loves the baked scallop roll, and my daughter was very happy with the Vegas roll. It's location is not in trendy Del Mat but either are the prices. Looking for a sushi place on a Friday night in San Clemente and happened upon this one. Quintessential little place from the moment you walk in. Warm/cozy/ people bustling and all the tables filled - always a great sign. We ended up having to wait almost 50 minutes but the host was so sweet and offered us drinks. Sat at the bar and immediately was greeted by the laughing sushi guy who made the whole night a treat (besides being an excellent sushi-maker!). The host (Gin) was a jack of all trades from seating customers to serving orders to cleaning tables. Truly a gem. He also checked in with us often to make sure everything was to order. Now to the sushi: I love visiting new places and seeing the names of the rolls. Tonight we had the Miyako sushi roll (delicious!) followed by the Paparazzi roll which was 100% even more DELICIOUS! It was crunchy nutty and all-around melt in your mouth. I would most certainly order it again.
