If it was not for Miyo's - I would have never gotten hooked onto Asian Fusion Cusine. I like the layout of this particular restaurant. I cant remember if it has been updated or not (as I had been here one other time and it has been about six years ago). For the most part, the service was good. A few of us had gotten to the restaurnt a little earlier and the bartender was chatting with us while we waited for the rest of the party to show up. We had a somewhat big party here several nights ago and waitress was doing as best as she could with the amount of people in our party. There was a slight lage in between when some of the meals came out 9first part of group got our meals and it was several minutes later until the rest of the group got their meals). Dinners can get sort of on the pricey side, but meals are also on the big side - some of the people in the party took some of their meals home. They do have a room set up for larger groups. The only complaint I had was that I am pretty sure they reconfigured the room so all the tables that are in the room was in one big row down the middle - pretty much from wall to wall and for those sitting facing the doors to the room - they had to squeeze by the end chair to get to their seats. read more

Went today for my son's birthday. The hostess sat us and no one came to take our order. I went to the hostess and told him no one came to the table. Finally after sitting again for longer I should have, a server arrived. I told her we had been waiting for quite a while. She said she was just told we were there. The food is very good but I can not eat sesame seeds. Twice now I have asked them not to put sesame seeds on my food and they have.. I then have to reorder and my family has to wait on me to finish eating.. I also run into the same problem when I order food to be delivered. Our server was gone most of the meal and was reluctant to understand our food questions or concerns. She brought the wrong order twice. I asked for Lo mein on the side and I got plain, thin spaghetti noodles. The second time she brought plain spaghetti noodles with chicken and vegetables. She hardly ever showed up to our table to meet our needs and towards the end of the visit when we were waiting for a box she took forever then too. I'm torn on how to review this place. The food and the service were fine, a solid 3 star. We ordered a sushi appetizer and two entrees and everything tasted good. The portions were nice, the prices reasonable and every person working there we encountered was friendly. My problem was that it smelled absolutely horrendous in that restaurant. The restaurant is located right next to a cigar bar and I think the smell just permeates through the walls or something. We walked in through the doors and almost turned around to leave because the odor was very reminiscent of a reeking dumpster. I didn't understand where it was coming from but we thought that maybe it was just at the front of the building. We were seated near the back and the smell just got worse. For most of the meal I was trying my hardest not to breathe through my nose and overall it put a severe damper on our meal. To reiterate, the food was at least a 3 star, maybe even 4 but the smell coming from their neighboring building severely put me off. They have a second location that isn't attached to a cigar place that I have yet to try but I'm definitely willing to. So if the smell of tobacco bothers you (not smoke though), maybe you should stick to take out or just go to their other location in Sandhill. read more

It took our waiter 15 minutes just to come over here and ask what we want to drink. Waitress is not friendly at all and it appears to me that she doesn't care to be in a timely manner. There was also no garlic on my broccoli when I asked for garlic. Restaurant is not clean at all there has been rats in the bathroom. The bathroom had a very strong odor. I'm not satisfied with my service at all. Also she brought soy sauce plates but no soy sauce until we asked. This is ridiculous. Food was alright. Broccoli seemed old. My wife and I tired of the wait at Panera, and since we both like trying new places and both like Sichuan cuisine (which is what was advertised on the sign we saw) we figured we would try it. The wait time was pretty bad. The hostess disappeared for several minutes while finding a seat for us, and our server was not as attentive as my empty sweet tea glass would have liked, but the food was amazing! While it was not 100% genuine, it's some of the closest I've had in America! The quality of the food brings it from a two it would get for service all the way to a four. Perhaps being there in a more normal dining hour would help with the service, but I'm not sure. read more

My family and I have been going here for years. However our last experience was disgraceful. Our server would disappear for 10-15min. at a time. When she brought us our opened wine bottle her finger was bleeding and I had to point that out to her. The food was not warm much less steaming hot. We ordered two types of spring rolls but received two orders of vegetarian rolls. When I complained the "head bartender" (since the manager was not around) didn't even comp the spring rolls since he said we ate them anyway. So it's been several visits since we've moved here and comparatively speaking it's not bad. But there is huge room for improvement. Sushi is not a big COLUMBIA thing. I get it. And Miyo's as a local gain has the market cornered. This location suffers from a few fatal flaws, service being the most obvious. Wait times always exceed expectations. You can be greeted quickly and sat at a table but then wait 10 minutes before anyone comes over. Or you can wait a long time to be seated all the while seeing they are not very busy and have someone pounce on you the moment you sit. Regardless of when they do come to take your order, food generally takes some time to get to you. If you need help with you order or have any questions, google it. Your server will more than likely have an aversion to the dish or be clueless. And while there are exceptions, service is a weak point here. The food have always been fresh (sashimi and sushi) if somewhat bland (soups and certain rolls). And the staff has been friendly and apologetic. But friendly will only get you so far when helpful and timely is an expectation of service and this place is no where near it. Three stars for fresh. Minus two for inconsistent service. read more

Used to be my favorite Chinese eatery but past three years Miyo's has gone up on an already pricey menu and down in quality. Until three years ago I was all to happy to pay twice as much for my entree than I could at other, nearby *nese restaurants because it was just so much better. The ingredients were obviously of a higher quality and the recipes a little different. I frequented Miyos 1-2 times/week for lunch and with family 4-6 times/month for dinner over about an eight year stretch. That changed about three years ago and after the quality of food and service began to fall my visits became infrequent until it was the rare occasion I/we went. This past Friday was our final visit. Hoping that things had improved since our last visit six-nine months ago, we arrived with high hopes. They were dashed as my wife's dinner arrived with a complete disregard of her requests for no this-or-that. After convincing the young lady to have it remade (yes, we had to convince the server to take the dish back) another dish followed about 15 minutes later and was yet again wrong. By this time I had already determined that my own dish was even worse than its already poor tasting predecessors which couldn't have imagined possible. Now this restaurant cost me three times what many local competitors charge and it offers nothing more for the money. In fact, in terms of volume, it's considerably less. Bottom line - bland food, poor service and high prices put this restaurant in the not-worth-it category. read more

What happened to my beloved Miyo's? We have been coming to this Miyo's at Harbison since we bought a house in Irmo in 2004. Sure we stopped coming for a time when that smoke shop was next door and I could smell the tobacco while I ate, but we have been back since it's closure. For the price we pay for our food, the service has become mediocre and don't even get me started on the truck stop/rest area smelling/filthy bathrooms. The only saving grace is the food is still good, but how much can I trust cleanliness and care with my food when their are food stains the back of our seats? I am disgusted, this may be the last time we eat here. I asked to speak to the manager about my concerns. Shift lead Paul came over and I expressed/ explained my concerns. He listed attentively and apologized stating each section is the responsibility of the individual servers. He explained he would get with the servers and talk to them but would also get someone to clean the restrooms. He stated that even Michelle could not seem to get the servers motivated to do a good job. I expressed we enjoyed the food, but could not trust that what we saw today, was also not happening in the kitchen. Our server came over shortly after Paul left to apologize for the mess. She stated it was the hostesses job to keep up with cleaning the tables and washing down the section. She offered us free desert, but I explained we were probably going to buy desert anyways and we're not looking for a freebie. We love Miyo's; M Cafe and M Kitchen. This is about wanting to help a place we love stay as good as we remember. About wanting to be a part of the solution. Please do better. I normally love Miyos and the other restaurants in this family, but this location has gone downhill significantly. I should have been tipped off that hardly anyone was here on a Saturday night and it smelled funky. It took 45 minutes to get our food, which arrived luke warm and did not taste particularly good. My Thai Basil chicken was supposed to have asparagus, but most of the pieces were the woody stems of the asparagus. My son's Maestro Chicken has a hair in it. The only downside that I can even think of would be that there was a lot of salmon, and not much other fish on my plate. I would have liked a bit more variety, but what I had was all very good. Miyos is pretty good. We were there tonight around 9:30 pm, it was pretty empty, we sat at the sushi bar. Would prefer pen and paper to order but that's ok. This is our second visit, it was good the first visit as well, though a few years back so we wanted to try it again. The rolls were excellent, my favorite was the Hawaiian. The yellowtail and jalapeño was amazing. This is now one of the places I will be back to again. The server was very nice and the food was great so that about sums it up, oh and the saki was good too. The only thing I could do without is that the place is a bit sticky! The chair was a little sticky the bar was sticky... How odd!? My husband and I went here for lunch and it was honestly some of the worst food either of us have ever eaten. The appetizer spring rolls and my ginger salad were ok. Everything else was old and inedible. The General Tso's Tofu my husband ordered was absolutely horrific... It looked and tasted like it had been in the freezer for two years before they microwaved it and threw it on a plate with some teriyaki sauce. The sushi rolls were all ancient and crusted over. My wife is right. 5 Stars. The best dining experience we've had since moving here from nj. Fried rice was banging. We got an appetizer of dumplings, and satay chicken and beef on stick. Holy shit....it was phenomenal. I got Mongolian chicken stir fry and it was delicious. Even the fortune cookies were good. It is currently my favorite place to eat down here. I really hope it wasn't an anomaly, and it will be as good next time. Service was fast and friendly. Except for that pickle at the front door on the way out. But who cares about that guy. Ate at this restaurant New Years Eve and bartenders were very busy but when they left to do something in the back a customer I assume who was very drunk was behind the counter making own drink and screaming profanity at other people coming in to do pickups. Miyo's is one of my favorite restaurants and has been for many years. Their menu is varied enough to satisfy most anyone. Service is consistently very good from the kitchen, bar, and wait staff. We have the worst lunch at Miyo's today. Several of us ordered Sesamie Chicken. that wne it arrived had NO Sesame' sprinkeled on the Chicken. I also ordered the Hot and Sour soup. usually a great dish. today it had nothing in it except for a couple of bits of Tofu floating around it in.No meat or vegetables of any kind. My wife had a dish that required small pancakes to eat, the ones that they service fall apart as soon as they were opned. When we reordered we had to ge the hostice that seated us to find our waitress. take 20 minute, by then the meal was cold and everyone else as lunch was ready to leave. Service was not good at all. We never were asked if we wanted a refill on our drinks nor was the tabled cleared before we were given the bill. All in all a poor showing. read more

This is one of four locations of various incarnations of Miyo's in the greater Columbia area. We used to visit a Chinese buffet when we wanted Asian food, but we get the same amount of food here and it is much healthier, beautifully prepared and presented, and brought to your table. The ambiance is lovely. The portions are large. the staff is competent. Of note are their tempura vegetable appetizer, and their "create your own stir fry" lunch and dinner options. They also have a good selection of vegetarian options. While they have an extensive sushi menu, where they really shine is the non-sushi Japanese and Asian fusion items. Example: an appetizer of spicy fish wrapped in nearly paper-thin fluted avocado slices and crowned with jewel-like roe. Even the tea comes in exciting teapots. My only complaint about Miyo's is that it is busy - reservations recommended. read more

I have been eating at Myios for years and even after moving to Florida, I do my best to get to a Myios when I do return to SC. Tonight's meal was a big disappointment. Service was mediocre at best. I made a mess of the appetizer sauce on the table, and the waitress never noticed it to clean it up. Just plopped the plates right on top of a mess. I notice my plate has a huge chip on it. I took a picture of it with my fork as perspective. When I complained to the "shift leader" about it, she shrugged and said they try to catch all the broken ones, but stuff happens in the kitchen as they are "slinging plates." She makes it sound as if this used to be fine eating establishment is nothing more than a diner. The only time our water was filled up, my husband's empty glass was filled and mine was not topped off. I know these may seem like petty complaints, but I expect a certain standard of service which was not met, compounded by an attitude by the shift leader that I dare complain about a huge chip on my plate, which, frankly, did not help my appetite. Shame on you for letting your standards fall! And don't try to use the restroom, because the hallway is so dimly lit, a flashlight would be helpful. read more

I have been eating at Miyo's for 12 years, and can honestly say, there is no better place to find Asian cuisine in the Columbia area! The quality of the food is impeccable, the staff and service outstanding, and the atomosphere inviting. I recently had the opportuinity to dine at the newly opened Miyo's of Lexington, and of course had the same quality and service as always, but with an added bonus. I learned that owner, Michelle Wang, is well versed in area of food allergies, in particular, gluten. She was able to tell us what to avoid, and pointed out several dishes that were gluten-free. She has even read a book to learn more about gluten, as many of her customers are gluten intolerant. That's just one more reason Miyo's is a five star restaurant. So no matter which Miyo's you choose, you can expect consistently outstanding quality food and service each and every time you visit. read more
