Rather it's eating in or takeout their steak hibachi is my go to dinner, but the star of the show is the onion dressing! I always try to buy a container if they allow me to because it's that good, they serve sushi in house (though I'm allergic and never tried the staff always managed to make sure my food is away and safe). read more

Don't come here unless you want to get charged for food you didn't like and didn't eat. I was under the weather so I ordered the Curry Udon. I thought it was going to have broth. It didn't. I took 2 bites and didn't love it. I am aware that is my mistake. So I reorder and get something else with broth, no problem, and I had the waitress take the curry back because I didn't like it or want it. When the bill comes, they still charged me for the curry udon so I asked the waitress if she could take it off. She said no and when I asked to speak with the manager she said no again because they don't speak English. So I had to pay for this dish (they did comp 20%) that I didn't eat and didn't like and I didn't even get to take it home. If I knew they were going to charge me regardless, I would've asked to take it home. And they refused to let me speak with a manager. Extremely disappointing. I will not be returning. I wanted to try this place out because I love supporting family owned businesses. This place has been here for 30 years! My husband and child absolutely loved it here. We ordered the bankruptcy role, crazy role, and avocado maki. I wasn't a fan of the crazy role. I liked the bankruptcy role the most (I chose it because it was the most expensive thing on the menu at $35 and I was curious). I wouldn't get the side salad because it's quite small and I didn't love the ginger dressing. The seaweed salad was very delicious; probably my favorite in town. Even though it's been here 30 years the place had a cool look to it. It's a little outdated but it adds to the charm. Even though it's in a strip mall, you would never know it if you went inside because they take very good care of it. There aren't any windows but it works. The service was good. Overall I would recommend for everyone to try it out! It's not really my vibe from an ambiance and food standpoint but it's just because of preference not because they did a bad job or anything! I'll start by saying that I've only been here once, and we had a group of about 18 people, so it's possible the experience would be different with a smaller group. I have a few friends that rave about this spot. It's far from where I live, and is definitely unassuming, in a little strip mall that's super easy to blow right past (especially if it's dark out), but I'm always assured the food is worth it. We had one server for our group, which was fine. He was really on top of it, had everyone's orders correct, and was pretty speedy. It was a little interesting that for dinner on a Friday night, with a group that large, that we were only given 1 drink menu. And we weren't even given one initially, we had to request it. So it was a little awkward to keep passing the one sheet of paper back and forth to everyone. Minor detail, but was odd. The food was good. I don't know if it was good enough to rave about, and I don't think I can say it's my favorite in town. The rolls were rolled nice and tight, and didn't fall apart. Everything tasted like it was good quality, and the temperature was right. My husband also thought it was fine, but not necessarily great. There are 2 other sushi spots closer to our house and he said of the 3 he'd rank this one in the middle. If it were closer I might be inclined to go back more, but based on where we live we're just not likely to make the drive again. If it's not far from you I think it's a good spot to check out since the quality of the food is good, and the price isn't outrageous. read more

Let me introduce myself, I'm a Field Service Engineer and travel all over the US. The service at this restaurant was average at best. Let's talk about the food, their menu is so large you can't be good at everything and they are not. When I ordered Unagi, they took the eel out of the cellophane, put some sauce on it and stuck it in the microwave for 13 seconds. When I put it in my mouth, it basically melted and the texture was slimy and not my favorite. I've been to Kentwood Michigan for work. This will definitely not be on the return list. Great food. Care definitely goes into the making of each dish. I had the eel bowl which had a generous portion of eel. The eel was soft and no bones; layered on with a sweet savory eel sauce. The pickled yellow radish was a nice touch; packed full of pickle pungentness. Came with side of soup and salad. The chicken katsu was generously portioned. The chicken was cooked ever so slightly dry, but fine to eat. The breading was a good amount and fried crispy. The accompanying katsu sauce was good, barbecue-esque. This place is such a gem. Great food, great service, nice and clean interior. My parents have enjoyed the shrimp tempura several times that also comes with sweet potato, squash, and green beans in a tempura coating. The dinner comes with miso soup, salad, and a cup of white rice. You get 6 shrimp with the dinner. I ordered the appetizer portion that comes with 2 shrimp and vegetables. I also ordered the gyoza. It came out warm, not hot and a little overdone on the pan fry, but the flavors were good. I also ordered an a la carte sushi order of hamachi. So fresh! I want to visit again and order more sushi. This is probably the most unassuming spot in GR for sushi but don't be alarmed when I say that it is hands down my favorite spot for sushi! It's in a very low business occupied strip mall (I know, it's not flashy) and is the best thing there! Pair it with a trip to Horrock's and you'll have a blast. I have had many rolls here and I love it every time! The staff are always super friendly and despite the outer appearance, they have amazing quality sushi! Don't be fooled in thinking you're going to come here and have super flashy rolls (like ones that are lit on fire) but the food is absolutely delicious!! It is one of my favorite go to date spots, quiet and good, you can have great conversation and there are sooooo many booths! Tokyo Grill is a 5 star for me. I've ordered take out, dined in, been there for lunch&dinner. They've never disappointed. Yes! A reliable sushi place where there is consistency! Their tuna is fresh and serve with the right temperature! Nerdy I know, but there's nothing worse than biting into a freezing cold piece of tuna or any other sashimi! I love this place. I grew up eating here, and while there was a rough period from 2012-2014 where the quality suffered but I am back to full on loving this place. The wait staff is amazing and you'll never wait too long on food here. I highly recommend getting their side salad with onion dressing and a couple spicy tuna rolls. Perfectly dressed in ponzu, very balanced dressing, exquisite presentation, generous amounts of Ika. A great start Sushi App. A great way to start if you like nigiri but don't want a whole meal of it. Their fish is the highest quality. You can taste care they put into only serving the freshest sushi. I've never had an off tasting piece of sushi here ever. It's sublime New Orleans Maki. Just incredible flavor and presentation and size. They have many unique maki selections including the bankruptcy roll! Fish egg don. I love tobiko. This dish is visually artistic, colorful and the flavor! Perfect balance of fish egg and rice. I loved every bite This place really never dissspoints. The only reason I can't give them a 5 star is service. It's attentive but not perfect. And never order Sushi c without being more specific. I once ordered off the online menu, sushi c (dinner) and didn't know their was a different sushi c lunch item. It's not my job to know the entire menu and my server should have clarified. I sent it back and asked for them to correct it. I was chastised 3 times by my server to basically be better at ordering when finally I just blew up at her explaining it was her job, not mine to clarify a confusing menu item. She finally apologized to me, but yeah. I'm scarred by the way I was treated. They should just not have a lunch a dinner item named the same but be completely different meals. I've had great times and great meals at this place. I've come here to treat people out, for sushi dinners, and for dates. I love the cozy atmosphere here, the service is great. They used to have cold-oranges served after the meal, but sadly I think they've discontinued that for now. My wife and I had a great dinner here last night while sitting at the sushi bar! I'm surprised by a lot of these negative reviews because we thought the sushi was great and the service was very friendly. The sushi rolls did take a little bit of time but we placed our order right have they received a few takeout orders. We also ordered 3 rolls and the presentation was worth the wait. My wife started with the miso soup and enjoyed it. We then ordered the Greg's Roll, Big Dans Roll, and Ultimate Tuna Maki. The Big Dans was our favorite but we really enjoyed all 3. They were very large rolls and we definitely slowed down towards the end. The 2 ladies working the dining room treated us like guests in their home and the 2 guys behind the sushi bar were very friendly as well. Tokyo Grill has been a family favorite for over a decade. I highly recommend it and even bring my Japanese friends to eat here or even non-Japanese. The variety in the menu is great and the prices. Ambiance is good too, there's even two tatami rooms where you can sit on the ground. Reason why I'm giving it a 4 is because sometimes they don't have enough servers and it did affect how the experience was as it took longer and you see them running around. This distracts you a bit but overall service is good too. I highly recommend all their hibachis, noodles, sushis, tempuras and more! My family will always be coming back. read more

We arrived at 6:00 pm for dinner on Saturday, and there was plenty of seating since the dinner rush didn't start up yet (more people came and filled up the place around 7:30 pm or so). My sister had brought her baby as well, and a high chair was easily brought out to accommodate her kid. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders as she handed us hot towels for our hands. I ordered a hot tea (barley tea I think?), while my dad ordered an iced tea, my sister ordered a pink lemonade, and everyone else ordered water. As our drinks were brought out, our server next took our orders. My sister and her husband ordered katsudon with a gyoza app and an order of the fatty tuna sushi, my mother ordered the tanindon, my dad ordered the yakisoba with chicken and a yakotori app, and I ordered the Saba bento with an edamame app. Our salads were brought to us first, me and my dad having ginger dressing and everyone else having the onion dressing (my order also came with miso soup). The ginger dressing was subtle compared to the slightly sweeter onion dressing, but both equally turned watery at the bottom of the bowl. It wasn't the best tasting salad, but certainly not the worst. The miso soup was decent, warm and came with small cubes of tofu and wakame seaweed. Our appetizers followed, with my edamame coming first and free for everyone to take. They were not salted, but salt shakers are provided on the table if you wanted to add any for yourself (my family and I were satisfied with the plain edamame). My sister's gyoza came afterward, followed by dad's yakitori. The yakitori was tender and drizzled with teriyaki sauce. Finally, our food was brought out. The donburis looked fresh and delicious, but overall ended on the single mild note of rice soaked in the saucy egg mixture (I ended up eating some of what was left over). My dad also let me eat some of his yakisoba, and while initially delicious, it also had the single taste of teriyaki sauce, which I quickly grew tired of. I was extremely happy with my bento, as it provided a variety of different flavors, tastes, and foods to keep my palate engaged. The broiled mackerel was plain and unadorned, but I personally preferred it that way (my dad said it wasn't that well seasoned). The bento came with a side of white rice, shrimp sumai, which was a pleasant change in texture, wakame salad, which was just delicious, tempura squash with a tempura shrimp, which I gave away to my sister and my dad, pickles, and six pieces of a California roll. By the end, along with our check our server gave us each some cut oranges. Overall, the food was cooked very well, and my family had a great evening talking together and enjoying our meals. The atmosphere is convenient not only for get-togethers like ours, but also intimate settings; I saw many couples as well as families. My only advice for coming here is ordering an appetizer unless you're able to entertain yourselves for a good while before the actual food arrives. read more

I went to Tokyo Grill for a yoga buddies sushi date. Most of our partners don't care for sushi, so we like to go out for it together. Despite being a group of 7, they had us seated in about 15 minutes. Most of us ordered tea, which arrives in handle-less ceramic mugs perfect for wrapping our hands around on a chilly November day. Everyone's food arrived together and as expected. I really enjoyed my Rainbow Roll and Super Ebi Maki. It was a good amount without feeling super stuffed at the end of the meal. Many years ago, this place was my first experience having sushi, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I was greatful that there was enough seating in the restaurant that we could hang out and chat for a little while without feeling like we interrupting their turning of tables on a Sunday. read more
