The BEST sushi in Winston Salem PERIOD. Everything is wonderful. They have a good selection of beverages and a cool Japanese soda that I can't find elsewhere. I am simply amazed at the ratings. I had this place bookmarked for awhile and when we were in the I was excited to give it a try. When we arrived it was packed and was asked if we had reservations. I was worried that we would not be able to eat but the hostess was very polite and had us at a table in15 minutes. My wife and 2 of our kids were excited. We ordered the Lee ice wraps as an appetizer that I felt lacked much flavor until you put some hot sauce on it. My son ordered soba noodles and chicken, my wife ordered some kind of chicken dish that I can't remember the name, my daughter ordered soup and I ordered sushi. Oddly, they seem to serve one person at a time here. My daughters soup came out first, my sons soba came about 10 minutes later, my wife's meal came out about 15 minutes after my sons. So let me pause here. My son tried his and quickly declared that it was not good. Since my SUSHI was not delivered yet and we ha e been here a solid to minutes I have it a try and agreed. He continued to push stuff around on the plate by he stopped there. My wife dish was equally disappointing and she ate about 1/4 of it. After about another 15 minutes the waiter offered to cancel the sushi which I quickly agreed. He came back with a few to-go containers and seemed shocked when we turned them down. A manager (not requested by us) came by the table and apologized for the poor service and and quality of food and only charged us for the glass of wine I drank. We did go to another sushi place and had a great meal. I can only think it was an off night based on the reviews I see or perhaps there is a large gap of understanding of how people at a table are all to be served at the same time. IMO there was a lot wrong to be just an off night. My daughter did like her soup but it was awkward for her to get her meal 10-15 minutes sooner than the next person. In no rush to return. read more

I live in San Diego, CA. Been here for 5 years and am an avid sushi enthusiast. Mizu was unexpectedly outstanding sushi. To date, I think it was the best overall sushi experience I've had. Or maybe just because it was a bit different than how things are in Cali. I highly suggest the baguette platter if you're used to Cali sushi. Anything with mango here is pretty bomb diggity as well. Like other people on here, this place really surprised me. We'd eaten here a few days after they opened and didn't get sushi, and the food was alright but nothing to write about, and the service was weird in the sense that we were being stared at and circled by a manager the entire time we were there. Came back a couple of weeks ago, and it was a totally different experience. Waitress asked if we liked sushi, if we liked spicy, if we liked scallops, and then took our menus away. We never ordered anything. Then the food started rolling out, and it was all very good, live scallops, everything tasted fresh, good presentation. Ended up being pretty pricey but it was worth it. Mizu is the best "real" sushi that I have found in Winston-Salem so far. Thank you to the good people at Thai Sawatdee for sharing this recommendation with me. Though located in an unflattering strip mall by a "The Fresh Market" grocery, don't let this facade fool you. Inside, Mizu was clean and modern, the sashimi was fresh and the staff was friendly. I've had several disappointing experiences with sushi locally, this wasn't one of them. It wasn't the cheapest place, but it was really good. Folks, if you want to have a great sushi experience, be open and leave it to the professionals. Give the chefs some license to show you what they can do; go with the special rolls and ask what's freshest. What do they recommend? You may pay a bit more for the experience, but it makes such a difference. If you get the chance, try the UniShot appetizer and the sashimi four ways. Happy dining! read more

Despite having heard great things about Mizu from friends and living close to the restaurant, we just finally made it for a visit. We were not disappointed. The staff quickly showed us to our table and the wait staff took no time in taking our beverage orders. Because of the length of the menu, it took a few minutes for us to decide what to order. We both ended up just going with the sushi; it gets good reviews on here and it's hard to find good sushi. (It also helps that the lunch special makes it very reasonably priced.) Between us, we got eel/avocado, california, tuna/cucumber, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. We also both ordered the miso soup as our starters. The service was quick (I'm sure you notice a trend in the number of times I've used the work "quick"), but not pushy. The sushi was very fresh and flavorful. I like just a little spice, so I've been overwhelmed by some of the spicy tuna rolls I've ordered in other restaurants: not here. It had just the right amount of "kick" (and I assume you could order more spicy if you want more heat). The overall restaurant is very open, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a quiet, romantic dinner. But if you just want good food, at a reasonable price, without waiting hours for service, this place should definitely be on your list. We ordered Mizu on Doordash tonight, and it was a fantastic experience. On Doordash, there is no chicken Hibachi on the menu, so we added a comment saying "chicken Hibachi instead of Teriyaki" because we love their Hibachi meals. They hooked us up with Hibachi instead of teriyaki, and also included 2 additional soups for us. Please add Hibachi meals on Doordash in the future though. My wife had dinner with her sister and nephew. Her nephew had sashimi plate and was not able to eat his dinner. He said it was not fresh. They called the server over who took the fish back to the chef, who said the fish came in today and offered no resolution. I've been here a couple of times and will definitely be back. The clear onion soup and salad with ginger dressing are really tasty and definitely worth having as a starter, if they're included with your meal, but not something I'd pay extra for. As for appetizers, the shumai and gyoza dumplings are delicious, as is the Avocado Salad- so I highly recommend any of those to share before your meal. The choices for maki are really creative, substantial, and fresh and some of the best that I've experienced since moving to the area! I was disappointed, though, that neither the live scallop nor the uni were available during my past visits, as they both come highly recommended by other reviewers and are some of my personal favourites. As for the hibachi, maybe I came on an off day but the Lunch Special sea scallops that I ordered smelled and tasted fishy (never a good sign) and I noticed that they were sliced in half to make it appear as though you were getting a more substantial portion than you really were (what should have been 5 thick, plump scallops was served as 10 thin, limp pieces). Nonetheless, the fried rice and vegetables were delicious, so I'd be willing to give the hibachi another try during dinnertime hours. read more

Located besides Lowes Foods on Robinhood Road, there is plenty of parking in the large lot out front at Mizu. With limited selection of places to get sushi around here, Mizu was one of the places we first went to get our sushi-fix. Portions are smaller than other places and the prices are high for the amount of food you get. The lunch specials are well worth their price. Dinner prices of course are higher for about the same amount of food as the lunch versions. The decor is nice and the wait staff is generally friendly. You also get a tootsie roll with your bill. :) read more

I came, I saw, I conquered!!! I'm full as I write this!! The sushi was DELICIOUS and probably the best part about this place. I LOVE sushi ya'll!! LOVE IT!!! I had the most common types of sushi just so that I had a frame of reference, because it was my first time here. All of the nigiris I had were delicious. (salmon, yellowtail, tuna & white tuna) Perfectly sliced on top of a perfectly packed rice. (A good sign of sushi is when the rice does not fall apart when you pick it up and dunk it in the wasabi/soy sauce mix.) The salmon sashimi I had was buttery and delicious and literally melted in my mouth! Probably one of the best I've had in Winston. That being said, the rolls were disappointing. I had the Three Muskateers Roll, and it wasn't what I thought it should taste like for my three favorite fish! It was just, I don't know, lack luster, and for a $13.95 price tag, it should have been INSANE! My best friend had the spicy crab roll, and she was also not as satisfied as she would have been if there was a little more umph you know? That didn't stop us from eating every freaking piece of sushi, but I wish it had something more in flavor town. Feel me? The hibachi was decent. My fiance had the hibachi filet and to be honest, it just wasn't filling enough for him. He ate his whole plate with the rice and the soup and salad and still had cereal when he got home. I think the meat was good but portioned very small, but the vegetables were bland & under seasoned and the white rice was SOOOO small (Like baby portions small.) I was disappointed to see that there were SO many onions, and like half pieces of broccoli, but maybe we caught him at an off time? My fiance thought it fell a little flat for him. He wasn't impressed...AT ALL!! With my sushi & his meal and two waters we came out of there spending $60 bucks. That's kind of a lot for a weekly trip, so maybe this is a once and a while kind of place?! Maybe I will come back with my sushi loving girl friends!! :) Either way, the service was good, my meal was delicious and I had a great time. I'm just not SOLD. There's got to be a place where my fiance can eat his cooked food while I enjoy my sushi. I absolutely love this place. I really don't have anything negative to say about it. I go here a lot, and it's worth it every time. The wait time is little to none. The staff here are super nice, and they are always willing to help. They take pride in caring for their customers. Their soup and salad is really good, and cooked to the perfect amount. Found this place thanks to fellow Yelpers. We decided to get the Pink Dragon Roll as an appetizer. Delicious choice but much too filling with the meal. For my main entree I ordered the chicken katsu I loved my meal the only thing I didn't care about is the salad that came with it had ranch dressing. Don't get me wrong I love ranch dressing but I was going for an Asian themed meal so I wish she asked me what dressing I would prefer with my salad because the ginger dressing was much better. My wife and I have been here for a year and are dismayed we tried other places instead of going to the one nearest where we live.
