It's small and shared parking lot in a busy plaza. Not very practical for a walker or wheelchair. Seats were very uncomfortable. They're hard and made of cheap wood. There aren't any booths and the chairs didnt have arms so getting up was a struggle. Staff was friendly. I got the chicken pad Thai. It was very tangy. Chicken tasted boiled. I couldn't get myself to finish it. My friend liked her food. It's a bit pricey for the portion size and I don't think I would return because the food wasn't impressive.

I tried this sushi place as a recommendation by a coworker and they did not miss with this one! Mizu is located in an unassuming shopping center in Winston Salem. My husband and I came here on a weekend for lunch and were seated immediately. I ordered a bento box from their lunch menu. It came with a California roll, shrimp shumai, shrimp & veggie tempura, and another entree choice listed from the menu (I picked chicken teriyaki). The bento box also came with your choice of ride and soup or salad. My husband ordered a spicy tuna roll along with his meal for an appetizer. The service here was incredibly fast. I received my salad within 2 minutes of ordering, the spicy tuna roll within 5 minutes, and my whole bento box in less than 10 minutes. Not only was everything fast, but it tasted delicious and fresh. The server also made sure to keep our water glasses filled. I can't say enough good things about this place. If you are craving sushi, Mizu is THE place to go!

My wife suggested Mizu for Sunday lunch...who am I to deny her??? Oh wait! Mizu is one of my favorite places in Winston Salem for fresh Sushi. I got the three roll lunch special: spicy tuna, spicy salmon and the Phill roll. All were delicious! I also got some hot Saki to complement the rolls. We were served very quickly.

I know a place is so good when I'm excited to go back and even though I life too far away, I want to make excuses to go there. Mizu is this kind of place. I've been here a handful of times and the food and service are excellent. This place has been around for a long time and it's a real gem. Personally, I think it's the best sushi in Winston Salem. You should try it.

This is a regular go-to spot for me when I want to sit down somewhere and have a meal but can't really make up my mind. It's a simple, straightforward place that delivers decent reasonably priced food which probably won't blow your mind but will be reliable and consistent. Just like "Chinese restaurants" typically serve "Americanized Chinese" food, this place serves more "Americanized Japanese" food rather than truly authentic Japanese food. For this area it's in line with what you'd typically expect. Service is prompt and very attentive and wait time is minimal. They also carry Asahi so that's automatic kudos from me as well. The place and decor is nothing particularly special or unique but that's ok. Ambience is in line with what the restaurant is trying to be. Overall would recommend if you want something a little different, fast service and reasonable pricing.

I've been craving sushi and sashimi and this restaurant was exactly what I needed. The fish was so fresh and the presentation was beautiful. I asked for a side of Ponzu sauce which is a must have. My waitress was very attentive and service was fast. The restaurant has a lot of dining room seating with limited bar seating.

I used to love this place so much but now it's just bittersweet tonight I decided to take my sister out to dinner and when we arrive, of course they sit you down very quickly if they're not busy they get your drink order they give you a minute to see if you want any sushi appetizers or if you just wanna go ahead and order your food. The service is definitely fast and they do stay on top of what you need. the ambience is always welcoming It gives romantic date night vibes its a small space that has a lot of potential. we ordered the firecracker roll. The shrimp, avocado roll, a hibachi, scallop and salmon with fried rice and no vegetables and I was honestly disappointed. I feel like the scallops were cut in half and the salmon. I don't even know how to explain it. It was definitely a thin piece of salmon that looked as if it was flattened on press or something. The salad was good. The sushi was good as always but I don't know what type of salmon I got still paid for the food but sadly will no longer be returning

Mizu is a nice small restaurant. Located inside a shopping plaza, making it easily available for shopper wanting a quick bite after a long day of shopping. I ordered the PINK Dragon Roll which was really good as well as fulfilling. Service was great checking on me frequently. Place is best for small groups. Overall a nice spot to enjoy some amazing sushi rolls as well as other Japanese dishes.

We recently went to Mizu while in Winston Salem for the day. It was recommended as being a delicious place to get Japanese food. We ordered an Uni shot, sushi, and hibachi. It was all delicious! The Uni shot was interesting for sure. The restaurant was decorated in your typical American hibachi kind of style. The service was quick and the server was very nice. Overall I would recommend this place if you are looking for a delicious Japanese meal!

We've been craving sushi for a minute. Heard people raving about Mizu, so decided to give them a try. 99.5 sanitation grade! We tried three different types of sushi; California Roll, Crispy Tuna Roll, and the Chicken Tempura Roll. Each were great! They have a huge selection to choose from. We also had the appetizer Lettuce Wraps. I really liked the hot sauce for those, they put it on the side. I also tried a side salad. The salad was fresh and crisp and I enjoyed the creamy ginger dressing. My son had the Kid's Hibachi Chicken. Great portion size! He also got to choose between soup or salad and white or brown rice. Veggies were served with his, as well. The hibachi sauce was delicious! My husband tried the Gyoza Dumplings and said they were very good. We will go back for sure. Glad we tried it out. The service was great and the food came out quickly. The place stays busy, so that tells you something. It wasn't a huge place and not as fancy as I had pictured in my mind, but it was a nice experience and I'm a sucker for a good sanitation grade, and great food. Overall pleased with our visit.

I cannot say enough positive things about this establishment. I have been coming here for years, and this is some of the best sushi I have ever had, and it is located here in my hometown, what a diamond! The staff is always courteous and friendly, ensuring you have what you need and checking in on you repeatedly. The sushi is always good, as well as the hibachi. I primarily get sushi when I come here because it is so good, but I have stray away and gotten hibachi before, and it was delicious as well, however their sushi trumps everything else on the menu. I usually start off with some sort of appetizer here, and this time I got the Japanese spring rolls, which were some of the best spring rolls I have had before. They were adequately filled and fried to perfection. I am also always impressed with their sanitation rating, as it is always a 98 or greater. I cannot recommend this place enough. There is ample parking, and the restaurant is pretty big, so no need to make reservations. Also, beware, they are closed on Tuesdays (weird), so do not try to go get your sushi on Tuesday like I did a few weeks ago.

Wow, 8 years between visits! Based on the meal I had, it will be even longer if at all, before the next one. The interior remains pretty much unchanged, crowded with tables, very low lighting, a feeling of closeness. I ordered the Shrimp and Filet Hibachi Combo with fried rice and a salad with ginger dressing - cost comes in at $22.25. The only item that was even close to the quality found at similar restaurants in the immediate area was the filet - not overcooked, with a decent amount of flavor. The shrimp were overcooked dreadfully, tough and chew, no freshness. Both the meat items were very small in quantity, the plate was mostly grilled vegetables and a bowl of fried rice. The vegetables were not bad, just not close to WOW worthy! One of the most disappointing items was the salad. I had really enjoyed the house made ginger dressing on previous, and considered it among the very best in the area. But the one I was served on this visit was weak and watery. In addition the lettuce in the salad was in large pieces, hard to eat unless you recut. And finally, the rice was clumpy and lacked the moist texture the Japanese fried rice is known for. This was not an enjoyable meal. The restaurant was dull and lacked any semblance of vitality, and this was definitely reflected in the food - most disappointing! Ambiance - 2.5 Food - 2.5 Service - 4 Value - 2

My husband took me here for my birthday, and we walked away very satisfied! We've recently moved to Winston-Salem, and I didn't have high hopes for finding good sushi around here. But this place was really good. We sat at the sushi bar, which was fun and entertaining. We had a sashimi appetizer suggested by the sushi chef, and the fish was fresh and tasty. Their rolls can be a bit heavy on the sauce, but are delicious and creative. Fish was all super fresh, the staff was all very friendly, and the sushi chef made some excellent suggestions. As a foodie, I have to say that this is a hell of a place, and it seems to be a well kept secret. Very friendly service and it is immaculately clean. Amazing lunch specials and fast service, a definite for a quick lunch or for a romantic dinner. read more

This place is probably the best and most authentic Japanese food you can find in Winston Salem. I cam here several times and had appetizers, Udon, Sushi and tempura. I came both for lunch and dinner. I would definitely say that if you can help it, come here for lunch, because it is MUCH cheaper than dinner for the same exact dish. The interior deco is quite nice, the restaurant is always pretty packed. The price is pretty reasonable for a Japanese restaurant. Their sushi chefs seem pretty experienced. I also like the Udon that I ordered, it came with great presentation served tempura and orange slices on the side. The broth is also very good, the noodle are quite nice, but I could use a bit more. The only complaint is if you come here for dinner, it can be a bit slow, not terribly slow but you will have to wait a bit for your food, so don't come if you are in a huuge hurry. read more

Excellent sushi. We had a great waiter that started recommending things and we went with it. We ordered mostly rolls and then a Uni shot. He recommended a $30 bottle a Saki and it was an excellent recommendation. It seems like a very popular spot. It is in a strip mall but dont let that hold back your decision. read more

Really beautiful delicious sushi. Atmosphere is great , it's a really comfortable place to eat. Kid friendly. The prices are good, the service is friendly and attentive. I'm not sure I've always understood everything the server has said to me, but it has always worked out fine. Best in town by a mile. Get edimame and seaweed salad to nibble on while you wait for your sushi to be bestowed upon you. So good. read more

This restaurant serves sushi the way that I like it with delicate cuts of fish and manageable bite-size portions of rice. Everything tasted very fresh, and the service was excellent. The restaurant was a tad noisy, with close tables, so you hear the conversations around you. The restaurant was full by the time we left (no empty tables and people waiting to be seated), and we were surprised at the number of families with children. Overall, we enjoyed it and will definitely return, as I've found no other sushi place that I enjoy in W-S so far. We had a sampler dish of the various sushi rolls and sashimi, so I can't comment on any of the hibachi or other cooked offerings. We did have miso soup and seaweed salad, both very tasty. My husband says "Food and Service = 9 out of 10. Ambiance and Noise-level = 6 out of 10." read more

I've been looking for a good sushi place for a while and went here based off the other reviews. I tried 6 different types of sushi they were all amazing! I went with some family that had never had sushi, they had a wonderful time and the staff was very helpful explaining the menu. We have to travel an hour to get here but we will definitely be back soon! As a sushi veteran I was very happy with quality, quantity, and prices. If you've never had real sushi the tuna roll and rainbow rolls are the perfect intro into this food genre. read more

Based on all you other Yelpers, Mizu was on my list of "to-try's". For Winston-Salem, it's a decent sushi restaurant. It was full when we got there, and they only had 2 women waiting on the entire restaurant. That being said, the service was not bad. We ordered the seaweed salad, and it was a bit different from the others I've had in that there were many different types with different textures and different consistencies (and not necessarily in a good way). I ordered the spicy tuna roll which was the best thing that we had, as well as the castle roll. The castle roll was very different from what I expected, and the roll was over cooked and greasy. We also ordered the crunchy tuna roll, and let's just say that it's the reason they're not getting 4 stars. All in all, if I eat sushi in Winston-Salem, this will be the place. It seems to be hit or miss with the rolls. But I suspect I'll be waiting to visit some other notable city before filling my sushi craving... read more

Very nice staff and a nice, cozy environment. With that said, the food is absolutely terrible. My sushi roll almost made me spit it out in a napkin. The tuna was almost black... Then my meal came with an ice cream scoop of rice and was pretty awful. Sorry to be a jerk, but it's extremely expensive to be so mediocre and food court quality. read more

This is our favorite Japanese/sushi restaurant. We go at least 3-4 times a month. The sushi (as well as other dishes) is fresh and delicious! They place the food on the plate with an aesthetic appeal. The staff is so kind and prompt. The restaurant (tables, chairs, floors, bathrooms) are neat and clean. We have only had great service, great food, and a great experience. We have never had to wait to be seated, and our drinks were never empty. One of our all time favorite restaurants. read more

So went to this place based on the yelp reviews and it was decent, but nothing spectacular. I ordered the Out of Control roll, which is tuna, salmon, yellowtail & avo; topped w/ tuna & salmon seared, served w/ nuta, spicy mayo & eel sauce (btw no idea what nuta is and couldn't figure it out after ordering the roll either). It was good, but I might be spoiled by California sushi and the BOGO offers in Durham/Raleigh. I was still hungry after this one roll...Overall, underwhelmed. Haven't been to other Japanese restaurants in the area so yeah this might be the best Japanese restaurant in the area. The service at the restaurant was good though. read more

My all time favorite sushi place in Winston Salem! You cannot beat their lunch time sushi special, and the sushi always tastes fresh. Food is excellent!! Except, it's over-priced. I ordered two Hibachi Dinner, with a side salad and a little container of rice. I wouldn't recommend to order take out. I'm very displeased with how stingy they are with rice. If you want more, you'll have to pay extra!! Never have I ever ate hibachi with such little rice. It's comparable with kids hibachi meal. Such a shame. read more

I went here for my birthday, and am late with posting this review. I saw the great reviews, and I was so glad I went there. It's a quaint restaurant in a shopping center, but its unassuming outside is different from the beautifully decorated atmosphere and amazing food inside. Their green tea was so good, I could have drunk 2 kettles of it! And the sushi was incredible. I had a wonderful time on my birthday, thanks to this place. They take pride in what they present to their customers, and I cannot wait to visit again! read more

This place is great. We live in San Francisco and there some xlnt sushi spots around town there. We actually look forward to visiting NC and eating here in the Lowes strip mall LOL. But seriously, the sashimi is like butter, the maki (rolls) are very tasty, the hibachi chicken is excellent, and even the teriyaki chicken is really good (not too sweet or syrupy). We come here multiple times when in town and really love it. Highly recommended spot! read more

I've lived in the best (american) sushi towns. When I moved here I was SO disappointed to learn there wasn't a place for decent sushi. Well a year later I learn that I was -- thank the sushi heavens -- WRONG. Mizu is verry very good... allllmost excellent. Not the absolute best I have ever had, but very creative, very yummy and very addicting. For central North Carolina, its excellent. I'm scared for my pocketbook. read more

I definitely think Mizu is the best sushi in town. It's in kind of a weird location, but definitely better than Sakura, Ishi (whatever the new name is) and sushi thai. The only thing that holds me back from giving them 5 stars is the service. I have had some not so great experiences with the service at Mizu. I can't speak to their Japanese entrees because I am always ordering their delicious, fresh sushi. read more

Lunch prices were resonable, ordered hibachi chicken with soup and brown rice. Chicken was very dry but it was a good portion. Vegetables were a very small portion, not very fresh. The rice. The rice lost me. This was completely obviously that minute made brown rice that boils in a bag, I only know this because I make it at home when Im in a rush and dont have time to cook good rice. It was gross. Also the server was very very pushy. Brought our checks as soon as we took the first bite of food and left without returning to even fill drinks. Not impressed, glad I did not try the sushi but my friend ordered it and it looked very very shabby for the price. read more

We were happy to find such a great place for sushi closer to home. They have a great selection of sushi and some very original rolls. Best atmosphere of any sushi restaurant in Winston. They are pretty busy for dinner on the weekends, so reservations on recommended. A tad pricey in comparison to other sushi restaurants in the area, but we think it is worth it. Service is very friendly. The staff remembers us and makes recommendations to try new things they think we will like. Try the Dragon Balls and the Castle Roll - they are amazing! read more

Overall, was decent but for the price I was expecting "spectacular" and it was not really that.

The food came out quickly and I was pleasantly surprised at the portion size. Definitely a good value in my opinion. The only disappointment was their take on fried rice, which seemed more like a dirty rice you would get at Popeye's. Honestly, I think white rice would have been a better pairing for this dish. Great service throughout our visit and we're keeping this one on the short list.

The octopus inside is tiny but they're pretty good. The servers are always nice, though the service is on the slow side most of the time.

But the food, the feel, the service and the value just don't compete well with all those other places we have to choose from. The unhelpful attitude of the clerk taking my order didn't start things out well; she seemed genuinely annoyed about being there, and that attitude carried over into her tone when answering my questions or prompting me for info she needed. Also on the service side of things, I had to stop the waitress from throwing away my food -- a plate over half full -- after I'd walked not more than ten steps away to refill my drink. [She apologized, but only after I had to confront her twice; still don't understand why "don't throw that away!" could have been confusing.] The burrito and beans I ordered were edible, but so bland that I might as well have been eating packing materials. The accompanying chips were warm, but the cup of salsa was quite possibly the least appealing salsa I've ever been served in a restaurant. I've had Taco Bell food I've enjoyed more than this. And yet I had forked over almost $20 for such a disappointment. Maybe it was an off-day. Maybe the tacos are the way to go here instead. But I don't think they offered even a hint of a reason for me to try Taco Mama again any time soon.

Last night two other ladies and myself celebrated a birthday for dinner. This was the chosen restaurant and what a magnificent choice it was. The food presentation was the best I have ever seen. The food itself was of the highest quality and prepared fresh with just the right amount of seasonings and not greasy.There were no long waiting periods, the waiter was friendly and very helpful when questioned about certain items, and the cleanliness of the overall restaurant itself was excellent. The prices were within reason. The pink dragon made with crab was beyond words, it was so good. Their teriyaki chicken was so tender it was cut with a fork.The birthday girl said her squid salad was the best she had ever, ever eaten. I used to love Mizu and I always thought that their food was incredibly fresh and high-quality. Unfortunately, I'll have to give them only 2 stars because of the amount of times I've gotten sick after consuming their sushi. I sometimes think that I was under the impression that the food is high-quality because it's a bit pricier than other sushi restaurants in the area and because the decor is very nice inside, but in reality I think the quality of some of the raw fish is not so great. After consuming their mango roll, I got incredibly sick for up to two days. I finally came back after about a year, thinking that my experience would be better, but again, I got mildly sick from another sushi roll that was supposed to be cooked. Their seaweed salad is awesome and USUALLY their cooked food is good, too, but because of my experiences here I don't think I'll be returning. :( read more

IMHO, Mizu is the best sushi restaurant in North Carolina, and holds its own compared to the "big city" northeast/west coast establishments. Don't be fooled by the unpretentious shopping center exterior and simple "box" interior: the fish is always fresh, the rolls are extremely inventive and beautifully prepared, everything is delicious, and the staff treats you like long lost family. Make sure you check out the special sushi menu, and if you go on a weekend, ask for the live scallop sushi. If you don't know what to order, just ask "Mr. Wonderful", the very helpful waiter. A meal can quickly become rather pricey, so beware - Mizu can quickly become an addiction! read more

Waited 35 minutes, dining room was half empty and party of 3 that just walked in the door was seated immediately at an 8 top. Hostess stated that "large" parties get preference at large tables. 3 guests "large" party? Ridiculous. Never consider going there again. Hear the food is good but good food is easy to find. The restaurant is in a strip mall, so somewhat hidden. The sushi is always great quality. A little prices, hence the 4 stars. Also, great service. read more
