We've been eating here regularly for over 10 years, but since we live half an hour away, we never got take-out until today. While it's true that take-out can't hold a candle to the wonderful dine-in experience at Moa, we were still very happy with the quality, quantity and value of our lunches. (Even though I hadn't had breakfast and was very hungry, I still had leftovers.) Of all the take-out meals we've gotten since the SIP, this was definitely one of the best. The real deal. Looks to be a family run place. I ordered the Kimchi Jjigae. It was among the very best I've ever had (including in Korea and LA). It had an amazing, flavorful broth and just the right amount of "stuff" including meat and veggies (and, of course, Kimchi). The banchan were numerous and varied. Our first visit was for lunch, and it was pleasant. The service was good and plenty of parking as it is in a shopping center. I went with Bul Go Ki Special which was flavorful and abundant and my wife went with a seafood soup with rice which she enjoyed. I had a hot sake vs beer which was also pleasant. After stuffing myself. We walked a lap around the parking lot then on our way. I used google to direct us which took us on a circuitous rout but eventually arrived. Surprisingly good. I saw this place on Yelp but didn't remember seeing this place at this location. I thought maybe Pollo Pollo (Korean fried chicken) went out of business and this place was new. Came here for lunch after school and I was blown away at how good their food was. I ordered the short rib and it comes with a lot of meat on their lunch plate. The sides were good. This review is for their lunch menu. main course I came here for lunch and tried their spicy chicken that was highly rated on yelp. It was tender and flavorful as described in the other yelp reviews. I liked that lunch is served with a shrimp tempura. Although they can lighten up on the batter to make it taste more crispy. appetizers the appetizers were average tasting as compared to some other Korean places. But I did like the eggplant dish which is very unique as I love eggplant and have not had eggplant as a bounchan before. service ok. I usually don't except too much for services. the two ladies there were chatting by the front and I did notice one customer got tired of waiting and went up to the cash register to pay himself. One lady felt bad and apologized a few times to him which was very nice of her. Then she started walking down the aisle to make sure everyone was taken care of, and I took that opportunity to get my check. ambience it was relatively quiet so I can hear the conversation from the table behind me. But tried not to eavesdrop. I like quieter ambience for dining, so this works for me. Though this is not my favorite Korean restaurant in concord, I would come back to try another dish next time. read more

We usually go next door for Vietnamese food when we're in the area but my family never tried Moa so I suggested we eat here for lunch. They honored the lunch specials on Saturday even though the menu states M-F only. We all ordered the kal bi because we love short ribs. The marinade was great and the food was plentiful. The staff even refilled our banchan a few times. They were very friendly. So next time I'm doing a Target run I'll be sure to pick up some yummy food from here. read more

I' m not quite sure why this restaurant gets 5 star reviews- we skipped our usual Korean spot in Concord to try this one and were pretty disappointed. They only have white rice and no purple, or even brown. The banchan are all pretty mediocre and more sweet than spicy. The hot tofu soup didn't include an egg or even the option to add an egg on for an added price. The japchae was also a little sweet for our tastes, similar to the banchan. I asked for hot sauce since the kimchi and our hot tofu soup (medium) were not spicy at all, but they only had a bottle of Sriracha. Sad face. No lunch specials on weekends, so if you're ordering bulgogi or any dish other than hot tofu soup, expect to spend $60+ for two. For lunch. Probably would not be back. Concord needs better Korean restaurants. read more

Moa has been one of my favorite spots since my DVC years. I been a loyal customer from the previous owners to the now current owner. I went so often that both owners remember me throughout these years. Which is sweet. The food has always been the same and consistent. And I have to say another than the food, it's the service that's keeps me coming back. I get good vibes, and feel well taken care of. My two favorites are the kalbi, and grilled mackerel. Occasionally I also love to order their seafood soondubu, chicken gui, or pajeon. Everything is tasty, and portion size is great. The Kalbi is juicy and not fatty, I love Kalbi so I know good Kalbi when I see one. Their Mackerel is fried perfectly and I love getting a side of lemons to top it off with. I also appreciate and enjoy their complimentary barley tea, soup, and mini pajeon they provide as well as their homemade banchan. I really miss dining in, but when I'm passing through pleasant hill I always make a stop here and get some food to go. I bought many of my friends to try this place out and each and one of them fell in love with place. They won't disppoint. read more

What I love the most about Moa is the home spun feel of the place. It's clear this is a family run business, using family recipes and serving up genuine, gracious Korean hospitality. The restaurant itself is quaint and modest. The food is exceptional... with some lovely bonus offerings included with the meal, like daikon radish soup and a mini paijun pancake to start. Great selection of ban chan (side dishes), fish cake and spicy cucumber being my particular favorite. If you like Soon du bu (Silken Tofu Soup), Moa will not disappoint, but we almost always share Mae Un Dak Gui (spicy BBQ chicken) or Dai Ji Bul Go ki (spicy BBQ pork) which are both generous portions and appropriately spicy. Concord has seen some big AYCE Korean spots move in of late... lots of flash, big crowds, disco lights and loud music... that may work for some... but for my money.. I'll take the family atmosphere of Moa over the factory feel of the trendy spots... any day. read more

We ordered spicy pork BBQ and rice cake soup via Uber Eats. I was happily shocked by the quality and authenticity of the rice cake soup, and especially by how well it held up. It is the most delicious and authentic rice cake soup I've ordered around here. The broth is clear and perfectly seasoned, the beef chunks small and high-quality, and the rice cakes are BIONIC. Perfectly, just slightly al dente, and EVEN still the next morning when I microwaved leftovers. I truly can't believe how good this is, and I am looking forward to going in person to order this. I enjoy MOA, ever since I first discovered they planted a Korean restaurant so close to Diablo Valley College. Back when I graduated from college, but was still unemployed, this was one of my favorite spots to get lunch specials. For a $10 bill and a few extra $1s (depending on the item you ordered), you could enjoy a hot stone plate of their bbq chicken, spicy pork, or some other item. I did notice, however, that the service here depends on the amount of food you order. I've been here with another guy who loves to eat, ended up order a lunch special each, along with an appetizer each, and the staff was very generous with refilling our water, tea, and smiled when asking if we wanted more banchan (side dishes). I've also been here with somebody, when we were only a good 6/10 on hunger, and they seem to have ignored us, until the third time flagging them down for more water. (No, it was before California had that drought warning). Overall, a decent restaurant with solid food options. Dinner gets relatively expensive, and the only time I came here for dinner, the service was pretty slow and did not seem to be up to par with the (good) experience during the lunch rush. read more

I was happy to find this solid Korean mom and pop shop. The kalbi is tasty and served on a sizzling plate, already cooked, so you can dig in immediately! The service was prompt and attentive. The decor is simple and the space isn't very big, so I wouldn't recommend it for a group larger than four or six. Parking was really easy in the shopping center lot. I have seen a lot of Korean people eating here and waiting with a line out the door, so I had to check it out a few times. I enjoyed the variety of side dishes (banchan) and authentic delicious food. The restaurant offers Korean food that is not often offered in typical restaurants, like the Minuh Maeun Tang and a lot of homestyle stews. There is no weird after-taste or is not overly sweet. The food has been consistently good. The service is excellent. The hostess makes a genuine effort to know and remember her guests. She also accommodated to my child by cutting his meat and offering kimm (dried seaweed). We usually order the following: Gool jun (pan fried oysters) Minuh Maeun Tang (spicy seabass stew) Kalbi (broiled short rib) Dak Gui (broiled chicken) It is no wonder that this is my new favorite Korean restaurant. read more

OK, you can call me biased, since I wrote the FTR here in 2009, and live fairly close by, and they recognize me, but I still love this place, and apparently, so do a lot of others, including, would you believe, Koreans? OK, so most of the Koreans are foreign students from DVC, but hey, there are 4 other Korean restaurants within 2 miles of here, so why is this little place so crowded on a week night? I had to leave for 30 minutes and come back just to get a table at 8:30pm on a Thursday, and the College hadn't started classes yet. These were locals eating here, not K-Pop wannabes from Seoul! You'd think PSY was performing nearby with the crowd in here, and a Flash Mob was about to Gangnam style their chopsticks. And they still give me 12 banchan to eat and refills if I want, PLUS a bowl of soup, PLUS a Korean pancake, before serving my Bulgogi or Bibimbop. What is not to like? We got all that, plus a Jinro Soju (still $10.95) and the bill was $44 before tip. OK, I have had better Korean food, but not at that price! And I have had cheaper Korean food, but not with that quantity/quality! I have eaten in over 50 different Korean restaurants (see my list), from OC K-Town, LA K-Town, to Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, Oakland, and Honolulu, and this family run shop is still a great overall value with me. Sure, it is not $9.95 AYCE like in K-Town LA, where there is a restaurant on every corner and a price war is breaking out just for survival. But those places give you maybe 3 banchan? And it is not like Genwa mid-Wilshire, my fave L.A. place, with nice decor and the cutest servers, but the son works here when he is not studying at DVC, and he is pretty handsome, but not my type. He is very polite and nice, like his mother though, And this is CoCo County, more like Riverside county, where 85% of the people are not Asian. unlike the 100,000+ Koreans that live in Los Angeles. Anyway, I always have a good time here, as evidenced by my reviews since it opened. We had Bulgogi, which came out in a flash, and Dolsot BiBimBop, which stayed hot and crispy. The toppings on this could be a little bit more, but there was the fried egg, beef, and veggies, and with the 12 banchan, I was happy with the variety of choices in front of me, including lemonade and my Soju, for $44. read more

So I've been on a Asian cuisine rut lately....been stuck on the usual sushi, pho, chow mein, fried rice. Leave it to my mom and dad to get me out of it by choosing to come here for Saturday night dinner! This place is a little hole in the wall that was filled to the brim with people on a Saturday night -- we waited for 20 minutes to get a table. This place is a no frills, no ambiance, no bs....they thrive on the quality of their food. WIth that being said, their food was delish! The short ribs were literally finger-licking good (my fav to order at an Asian bbq restaurant). The grilled vegetable prawns were cooked to perfection....not soggy and overcooked. And the banchan (the little mini Korean tapas)! Wow...I've never seen such a spread. Loved the fried smelt with hoisin sauce. And the kimchi was as spicy as ever -- LOVE! As I've said before, it's hard to find good Korean food in CCC, so when we were headed home after a relaxing day from Napa, we had a hankerin' for some Korean food. Normally, we would go to Bulgogi House or Korean Palace but decided to try Moa after reading the reviews on Yelp. Ok...and not to sound a bit pretentious, but I was if-y about the location. But decided good food is worth it. =P The place was packed, which is a good sign and there was a group of K-Pop teens eating outside so we decided instead of waiting, we'd also just suck it up and eat outside. It was a little busy, given there's a bunch of other dining choices in the strip mall, but thought it's better than waiting for a table. The weather was nice and we didn't think ahead............. So sitting outside, was OK! Given, you're right in front of everyone's cars parked in the lot and there was a group of kids playing tag and SCREAMING their heads off while we were eating. So outside of the fumes and the headache, I was a bit over it at that point. BUT then the hostess was so sweet and quick, I figured it wasn't a big deal, she made up for it with her service. We were quickly given drinks, water & Hite for my hubby. The complimentary pancakes came out right away, which were fried and yummy! The banchan was ample, but none really were outstanding, just mediocre. I ordered the dol-sop bibimbap and my hubby ordered the yaki chigee both were very good, although my bibimbap had a tad too much sesame oil in it, but was still good. Only annoying thing, outside of the cars, people kind of hoovering over your food as they walked by or stood around at the outside tables was the homeless man that decided he'd eat his taco-bell burrito at our table. C'mon?!?! WTF?? Being that I was already over the decision of eating outside, although at this point it was too late....I told him to get lost. (politely as I could). Outside of those minor aggravating moments, the service was great, the food was good and would we come back....? SURE! but next time I'll eat INSIDE! even if there's a wait....ugh!!! The food was pretty good, but the obvious customer preference was really uncomfortable. So there was a Caucasian lady sitting right next my wife and I who arrived at the same time. The entire lunch this other customer was treated like a VIP, she was asked if she wanted seconds of her appetizers, she was asked if she wanted more water, she was asked if the food was cooked well, she was asked if she wanted a to go box, I could go on. On the other hand my wife had our order taken and the only other time the waitress acknowledged us again was to give us the check. To be fair none of the other customers received special treatment either (they were not Caucasian btw). Maybe the lady is a regular and tips over 20%? We found this little hole in the wall by accident. It was love at first bite! My Niece lives in Korea and my BF's son is stationed in Korea so we wanted to try their cuisine. I had the #1 lunch special the BBQ beef short ribs, excellent, tender and flavorful! BF had a huge bowl of the beef flank noodle soup with egg, he enjoyed every bite! Our lunch started off with a very nicely seasoned chicken soup with cubes of Diakon radish cooked tender and perfect, then along came 8 little bowls of assorted Kim Chee, every one unique in flavor, texture, and crunch. Since it was our first time having Korean BBQ when ever we asked questions about what we were eating, they offered to serve us some more. This is my favorite place to get Korean food around this area. They're located in a quiet plaza. The owners are very nice and attentive - sometimes there is a bit of an English barrier with the boss lady, but overall we don't have any complaints about them. My 2 favorite things to order here are their seafood stone pot bibimbap and their Kalbi. The seafood stone pot bibimbap features lots of octopus(or squid) pieces as their main seafood. There are a few shrimp thrown in. There is plenty of seafood in every bite you take. You can ask for mild if you do not like spicy. The kalbi is amazing here. If you order during lunch time and order the lunch special, it is very worth it. The lunch special comes with 10 pieces of kalbi, a generous portion of rice, some tempura, and some slices of orange. I can never finish it all despite being a tall person. I think the kalbi is marinated very well and are also generous-sized slices. read more

Speaking from a cheapo with good taste, this place seems to be as good as it will ever get around the bay. I go here quite often (at least once a week) since I'm a student at a nearby college. In terms of service, I love the family-friendly atmosphere here due to the owners. They're a family of three and always handles the costumers well. The mother is kind, outgoing, and makes sure you're in good hands. The father doesn't speak much, but he has that shy appearance with a kind smile. The son works there to help out his parents too. I find it very admirable. Food wise, this place is such a gem! I've been to plenty of korean bbqs when I used to live in San Jose (mostly the ones on El Camino), the overpriced and commonly unfriendly service just completely turns me off. On the other hand, the lunch specials at Moa are SUCH a sweet deal for a kbbq joint, they range from about $7-9! The radish soup always comes first as a free appetizer, then the Banchan is served (usually consisting of Kimchi, Kimchi radish, anchovies, cucumbers, eggplant, and etc- because I don't know my vegetables/korean banchan names very well). As for drinks, if you're a student or a kid, soda is free. Refills are also free. Now dish-wise, since I often go here a lot I've tried a couple of different dishes offered here once or twice at Moa. Here are my favorite and my not-so-favorites: KALBI - the sauce DRIPS so wonderfully delicious. My family LOVES the kalbi provided here, especially during lunch time because the sauce just sinks into the meat making every bite so savory! SOON TOFU - it's always extremely hot and served boiling. There's the beef soon tofu and seafood soon tofu. I always get it with seafood, since I'm more of a shrimp lover than a meat lover. If you ask for egg (which you must or it comes without egg), then personally it taste better. You can also ask your preference of spicyness level. BIBIMBAP / DOLSOT BIBIMBAP / KIMCHI DOLSOT BIBIMBAP - dolsot bibimbap and kimchi dolsot are served at dinner price. They're all equally delicious. Seriously. I always feel proud of myself eating one of their bibimbap dishes, only because it's FILLED with vegetables even though there's an abundance of meat provided. But that's just me. You can always ask for it without meat too for the vegetarians. SAMGYUPSAL - In terms of samgyupsal, I have to say that I've had better ones at other kbbq places. At Moa, it tends to be a bit soggy and a bit too much fat. KIMCHI JJUN * - this isn't even on the menu, but since the ahjjumma is EXTREMELY nice, she makes it sometimes :) It's pretty much a "kimchi pancake" but it taste AMAZING. It's extremely flavorful and easily my ultimate favorite dish at Moa. Just ask for it and she will most likely say "no problem, we can make that." :D I'm having problems thinking of how to end this review (it's my first one) so what the heck, I'll just say what I really mean: If you're in the area, TRY IT. I've been here a couple times now with my husband for dinner and both times this little Korean place is busy. That's a good sign! Service is always nice and friendly and they offer up complimentary banchan and a little mung bean pancake. We've tried the Kalbi, Samgyeopsal, and Bibim Naeng Myeon. All were very good and exceeded our expectations. The Kalbi was nicely seasoned and the meat on the short rib slices was plentiful. Two people could probably share one order. The Samgyeopsal was also really nice and tender, but don't get this if you are afraid of pork belly fat. There is plenty of it on there and it is oh so delicious! The bibim naeng myeon was also really good and again could probably feed two people with one order. Tip: Come hungry, order lots of food... then take the leftovers home! read more

Great portion sizes! Lots of banchan, and all of it was yummy. Plus little individual pancakes on the house. Our meal: Complimentary soup and mini pancake - the soup broth was very flavorful and paired nicely with the daikon. Mini pancake was a nice on-the-house treat but lacked flavor. Seafood pancake - HUGE portion! Great texture and packed with seafood, however some of the contents were cut very large so they were difficult/awkward to chew. Seafood tofu soup - This was a smaller serving size than I expected. Really only shareable for two people. Great flavor and silky soft tofu. Kalbi - Another huge portion! Great flavor, super tender, and they give you scissors for cutting which was really helpful when trying to serve 3 kids! Dol Sot Bibimbap - My favorite dish, so I had to try it here. It says stone pot, but it's not a real stone pot. Plus the server mixed it for us (which was nice) but she served it right away. I don't know if it was that or the "fake" stone pot, but the rice didn't get crispy the way I like it. So disappointing. Service was really friendly and attentive. They took our order quickly and brought out soup and mini pancakes right away. One odd thing - they bring you gochujang in a sriracha bottle that has the sriracha branding scraped off, which was a little off-putting. A few minor missteps, and I really would like a real stone pot with crispy rice if that's what the menu says. All in all, large portions, great flavors and 5 star service. read more

This place had big portions and it was cheap for Korean food. The meat portions are large which makes it more enticing. We ordered the Kalbi and bbq chicken, both of which were tasty. I was not a huge fan of the bibimbap, i thought it was a bit try and did not have a lot of flavor. It is one of the few Korean joints in the area that is worth it. So my friend and I decided to come try this place after work. I'm happy we decided to come here. Didn't know that it would be so tiny though, but that didn't keep a good amount of people from eating there. The waitress was nice and attentive. I ordered the 'Saewwo Jjige' which was pretty much soup with prawns and vegetables. It came out sizzling hot. Pretty cool to see! :D It was delicious and filling. Absolutely enjoyed every bit of it. Also the condiments were good (loved the potatoes and cucumbers, lol) and the waitress refilled them for us too. A bowl of rice and soup also came before my sizzling food.
