We selected Merriman's as our fine dining choice of the trip and we couldn't be happier. My mother and arrived slightly early for our reservation and were seated promptly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We caught the tail end of the the live music for the evening as we took in the space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server Kirsti was attentive and sweet, getting us our drinks quickly so we could sit back and enjoy the "fire sky" sunset. She made sure everything was acceptable at every step of the dinner. We ordered the biscuits and soup as an appetizer, and then shared a duo entree of the wagyu steak and macadamia nut crusted fish. For dessert, we had the lilikoi mousse. Everything we had was different, balanced, and elevated. My mother described it as one of the best rals she has ever had in her life. We can't wait for our next opportunity to return.

Note: this is just a review of their happy hour menu! We loved this place for happy hour. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We came around 4pm (happy hour is 4-5pm), and it wasn't crowded at all and the view was beautiful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We both got mai tai's (tasty! but not as good as the Scotty Brown ones) and my husband got the pork quesadilla, which he liked. We shared the coco loco cocktail, which was also tasty. [[HIGHLIGHT]]For happy hour, the prices are great and the view is spectacular![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I don't know about their dinner, but definitely recommend the HH for a quite beautiful view and good drinks.

The huge annoyance was the fact that nowhere in the restaurant description did it say that there was an elevator behind the long staircase up to the restaurant. I saw many people struggling to get up the staircase, including my husband. What is even worse is that their isn't a stripe on the of the treads so that the handicapped who can go down the stairs can see the end of the tread. This is shameful. This restaurant is mediocre at best. It was so disappointing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We walked in And a woman was singing and playing the guitar. Every song sounded the same and she was very loud. It was hard to have a conversation between 2 people.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And now for the food. They were flexible with our dietary concerns. That is not always the case, so I applaud that. I ordered the pork shank. It was unevenly cooked and in some spots cold. The vegetables were almost raw and difficult to chew. My husband ordered the ahi tuna. He did like that. The Merriam name is big on Maui and in its prime was good. This was not. I expected more.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great spot to end the evening![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Came here for dinner with my boyfriend and loved it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a very popular spot, very bustling and busy, with nice modern decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food was great, everything was fresh and all of the waitress' recommendations were spot on. Wine options were great and decently priced, and our pick went great with our meal.

This was recommended to us by someone on the mainland. The food was simply excellent. We had two fish dishes (tuna and macadamia nut crusted swordfish) and both were very delicious. The crispy pork shank was also very good. We sat at the bar and got excellent service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was all Hawaiian.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We will definitely be coming back on our next trip.

Everything. Views. Service. Food. Drinks. Everything was fantastic. Flavorful. Solid portions. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience was fantastic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was live music, which was just perfect.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love this place. I will definitely return.

We recently celebrated my husband's 40th birthday at Merriman's in Kauai, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. They greeted us with two glasses of champagne after learning it was his birthday, which set a wonderful tone for the evening. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was perfect, with a stunning view of the sunset over the trees, adding a magical touch to our celebration.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server, who I believe was in training, was fantastic, as was his mentor. Both made sure we were well taken care of throughout the night. My husband started with the signature Mai Tai with Lilikoi foam, which was refreshing and unique. For our appetizer, we had the buttermilk biscuits, and I have to say, they were absolutely delicious. For dinner, I chose the Wok Charred Ahi which was line-caught by Captain Kevin Yamase. The fish was cooked to perfection, and the Won Bok Slaw with Wasabi Soy Sauce was simply amazing. My husband had the 9oz grilled steak served with taro whipped potatoes, chili garlic green beans, Hamakua Aliʻi mushrooms, herb compound butter, and marinated tomatoes. Every element was flavorful and expertly prepared. To top it all off, they surprised my husband with Lilikoi mousse and house-made macadamia nut shortbread cookies for dessert. It was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Overall, the service was great, the ambiance was beautiful, and the food was fantastic. I highly recommend Merriman's for any special occasion!

Merriman's Kauai was our Aloha dinner to Kauai. Kauai had big shoes to fill since I've dined at Monkeypod and Merriman's on Maui. Service was just as excellent as Maui's. Kauai's Ambiance was a little better than Merriman's Kapalua because they managed the sunshades better. It was lowered, cooler when the afternoon sun was at its highest and raised for sunset. From a food perspective, everything was fresh, well-prepared, and didn't disappoint. I appreciated that our server let our French Press "steep." It was the perfect accompaniment to the Macadamia Nut Bread Pudding.

Merriman's is a classic Kaua'i dining experience - definitely a little bougie, a lot delicious, and great vibes. The upstairs location in Kukui'ula Shopping Village overlooks the ocean (pro tip, com here during sunset because it's pure magic ). I got their famous mai tai with lilikoi foam If you haven't tried it, it's a non-negotiable! My friend had the Hanalei Taro Falafel, and I went with the garlic roasted wild shrimp + bok choy. Both tasty, portions on the smaller side, and definitely a splurge! Do you have food allergies? We'll know that Merrimans's is great about double checking ingredients! Last note, we grabbed bar seats with no wait, but I'd recommend reservations if you want a table!

We adore Merriman's Kauai and make a point of visiting on every vacation to Poipu beach. The restaurant is lovely and the tables along the window have a gorgeous sunset view. We had terrific and warm service, just like always. We left our kids with the grandparents, but we have brought them in the past and they have been welcome. The Mai tai, both with alcohol and zero proof, are highly recommended. We like to split one entree to be able to have room for several appetizers and desserts. This time, the seafood Mac and cheese and malasadas were standouts.

What a great experience in dining. Started off with their Mai Thai's. Delicious!!! We shared the KALUA PORK & MAUI ONION QUESADILLA House-Made Kim Chee, Sweet Chilli Mango sauce followed by the CAESAR, PETER'S ORIGINAL Hirabara Farms Romaine, Green Fried Tomato Croutons, Shaved Parmesan. Main course: MERRIMAN'S DUO PLATE Macadamia Nut Crusted Fresh Fish, Hamakua Ali'i Mushroom Sake Reduction & Petite USDA Prime Filet Mignon, Herb Butter. Couldn't decide on dessert so we ordered two. PINEAPPLE MACADAMIA NUT BREAD PUDDING House Made Tahitian Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Rum Butter Sauce HAWAIIAN CHOCOLATE PURSE Coffee Caramel, Candied Mac Nuts, House Made Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream. Then KOLOA RUM CACAO to end the meal watching the sunset. Excellent service with a beautiful view.

The chicken had a nice flavor and was nice and hot when it was served. The food was good, but not worth waiting over an hour in my opinion. You can make your own judgments, depending on how much time you have. We stopped by Leong's in Coconut Marketplace on a Sunday, which may have had something to do with the service. Plus, Kauai is a very small island and I was not expecting big city service speeds. However, it did take over an hour for us to get our food. That seems long, even for a small restaurant on a small island. We got to the restaurant and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table; not an issue. Once we got seated, we got water and coffee very quickly; not an issue. But when a large table (that was seated since we got to the restaurant) got their food after we had been waiting for 30 minutes, we started to get a little worried. The whole restaurant experience lasted about an hour and a half, and only about 20 minutes of that was eating. There were only two human waitstaff (and one robot which seemed kind of cool but mostly like an inconvenience to the workers), so I can understand somewhat. We also may have felt more pressured because we had to be somewhere after lunch.

Good was nice with pork and pineapple. They will ask if you want sweet (very sweet) sauce or sweet and spicy. I notice if you pause they will always offer both, we received both. Our side was the onion and cucumber and it came with rice. Fresh made food and was great. This was perfect, as we were in a hurry and on the go. Restrooms are shared with the shops a few doors away. Our main server was devoid of any emotion whatsoever - rather strangely robotic. Of course, as is the cost of all food in Kauai, the prices were really high for the quantity given. They charge $14 for four potstickers so we did not get those. We opted for the Larb chicken and the Thai basil chicken which we requested spicy, actually very spicy and it came out totally mild. They brought us some garlic chili oil which was nearly rancid. The flavor of the Thai basil chicken was really good though with lots of wok hay. The quantity of the larb chicken was at least twice as much as the Thai basil chicken. It was milder, but it was still tasty. They also serve sushi rolls however I'm not quite at the point of feeling comfortable paying $25 for one roll of sushi. Request a table near the windows for a sunset view. We arrived and were greeted and seated immediately. Shortly afterwards we were served complementary spicy edamame. The Brussel Sprouts & Cauliflower was excellent, golden raisins and pine nuts add sweetness and texture, balsamic vinegar counters with wonderful acid contrast. The Black Garlic & Yuzu Ahi Tartar is simply fabulous, one of the best bites I have ever had. I first had this dish two years ago when it was introduced as a new dish in a prefix meal. On that trip we returned to enjoy the dish once again. Had it again last year as I travel to Kauai each year. I'm happy to see it is still on the menu! Our third dish was the Vietnamese Style Sashimi and it was okay, although a bit underwhelming for Eating House standards. It was fresh but lack the complexity that I have grown to expect from this restaurant. We requested some wasabi and it helped with the flavors. Kudos to the staff for its kindness. The restaurant is open air and very comfortable. It has a rustic feel. We were seated by the window on a cool, rainy night but were perfectly dry the whole evening. On top of that, our server was very helpful in guiding us to order the right amount of food. He brought us a serving of edamame which is always on the house. The shrimp & pork potstickers were very good. I had the ramen which was tasty, filling and a great choice. Our server was terrific to put the spicy oil on the side which made it easier for me to eat. My husband had the butterfish which is the best I have ever tasted. It is a signature dish and always a pleaser. The only real downside is the limited menu. We were told that because of a staff shortage, it wasn't the typical menu. This was disappointing.
