We were in the area when we spotted Moana Hawaiian BBQ and decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did. Parking was easy thanks to the free public parking garage nearby, which made the visit even more convenient. We ordered the Chicken Katsu and the Beef Rib plate. From the first bite, we could tell this place was different. I usually think most Hawaiian BBQ spots taste pretty similar, but not here. There was something special about the food that made it stand out in a good way. The chicken katsu was crispy and flavorful, and the beef rib was tender and delicious. What really surprised us were the sides. The pickled jalapeños were fantastic and added a nice kick to the meal. The macaroni salad was also excellent. Honestly, everything on the plate was good. Service was friendly and quick, and our food came out fast. It can get busy here and loud. Small place. My only complaint is the rice portion. The plate came with only one scoop of rice, and I was hoping for two scoops. The food was so good that I wanted a little more rice to go with it. Also, forgot to take full photo of food, we forgot to snap before eating it. Overall, great food, great service, and a pleasant surprise. We'll definitely be back the next time we're craving Hawaiian BBQ.

Nice little spot for some delicious Hawaiian BBQ! There's some seating inside but not a ton. The staff were friendly and the food came out quick. I ordered the pineapple chicken and spam musubi. I loved both options and can't wait to come back!

Looks like a mom and pop shop inside, super clean and felt welcomed by the kind workers. Though their prices for a plate and a drink was super pricy for one ($31 total). Wasn't really a fan on their salad, it felt like they didn't try. They should look into cabbage salads like other traditional Hawaiian bbqs

My husband and I were craving a traditional loco moco Hawaiian breakfast, so we decided to give Moana Hawaiian BBQ a try. I had the SPAM LOCO MOCO (two eggs, SPAM, white rice, cole slaw, and macaroni salad) and my husband had the HALF SPAM HALF LOCO MOCO (two eggs, SPAM, a burger patty, white rice, cole slaw, and macaroni salad). Everything tasted great! We loved both dishes! Service is fast and friendly, and there's indoor and outdoor seating available. We'll definitely be back to try the katsu chicken and kalua pork!

Moana Hawaiian BBQ delivers solid comfort food done right. The Spicy Beef was tender and packed with a perfectly balanced mix of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. The Kalua Pork was savory and hearty, yet still felt light thanks to the cabbage mixed in. The macaroni salad was another pleasant surprise--not overly creamy and nicely seasoned. Portions are generous without being overwhelming, making it a satisfying and well-balanced meal overall. Definitely a spot worth coming back to.

As you can see, I spend a good amount of time in Hawaii, visiting all of Maui, Waiʻanae, Waikiki and other areas. This is, by far, the best island food I've found on the mainland. Summed up in one sentence, two scoops of rice, (if you know, you know). With the humid weather it's like being in Hawaii, minus the beach being two minutes away. The restaurant is WAY too clean to be authentic island food, (probably a good thing). It's like an upscale restaurant and my favorite Hawaiian dive restaurant had an illegitimate love child in Burbank. The guy behind the counter was super friendly. He expressed an interest in our day. My wife and daughter got burgers down the block, their loss, sucks to be them. Definitely worth the stop of your in the area or need lunch or dinner while traveling. Portions are supersized, bring an appetite!

My BF's brother brought back the family deal for everyone to eat. It had 3 items, including beef, chicken and another chicken with pineapple. It also included white rice, veggies and macaroni salad. Everything was good. My favorite was the beef and the sweet and sour chicken. Normally, I turn my nose up at macaroni salad. However, I am trying new foods. I am glad I did. The macaroni salad was good. We have walked past this place many times. Now I know its good. Located in downtown Burbank near Sam Fernando and Orangegrove ave. Dont forget to feed the meters if you park on the street.

I love to get the mixed plate with the chicken katsu and kalua pork. Both meats are tasty and well seasoned. Combined with the tonkatsu sauce and macaroni salad, you get a really tasty meal that's a mix of Japanese and Hawaiian cultures.

Food was excellent! Glad I drove all this way to try it. Highly recommend. My son and I both enjoyed our meals. The portions were great, the meats were flavorful, and everything was served fresh. Worth the drive and we'll definitely be coming back.

9.9/10 I finally tried Moana Hawaiian Barbecue and went straight for my go-to .... the Chicken Katsu. Let me just say, this instantly tied for one of my favorite Hawaiian spots in LA. The chicken itself was next-level extra crunchy on the outside, perfectly juicy inside, and super fresh. Honestly, the texture and crispiness even beat out Ono Hawaiian, which has been my longtime favorite. The portion here is generous too with noticeably more chicken than Ono's plate (though you're also paying about $5 more ). Now for the details Ono's Katsu sauce edges Moana's slightly for me -- it's a bit richer, and their mac salad also has a touch more flavor. That said, Moana's version is still excellent, and the overall quality of the chicken puts them head-to-head in my book. If you love crispy, juicy Katsu and big portions, Moana is a must-try

Very delicious Hawaiian BBQ Chicken every time I come to chow down here. Portions have gotten smaller over the years, well I guess everywhere but always delicious chicken. Love the macaroni salad it is so addicting! Price has gone up, as everything else but wish the price would match the quantity, the quality I have no issues with. Service always really good and quick. Clean restaurant and now with movies playing while you eat just feels like being at home.

It's been a few years (2013) since I was last here to eat, the last last time I ate here, I didn't care for their food quality or quantity so I've avoided this place. I recently came across the place and decided to check them out to see if thing's has improved. They've redecorated and the place seems cleaner so I decided to try them out again. The dining area is nice and clean, I ordered the BBQ mix plate with soda, ($25.00) the portions were decent, the food was good (better than I remembered) kinda expensive compared to Ono Hawaiian. Service was friendly and professional.

We visited the Burbank location on Glenoaks and ordered the 2 Piece White plate ($19) which comes with baked beans and coleslaw, along with sweet teas. We went medium spice and it was the perfect call -- enough heat to let you know it's there without overwhelming the incredible flavor of the chicken itself. The skin was perfectly crispy and the meat was extraordinarily juicy -- this is some of the best fried chicken in the city, full stop. Fresh, never frozen, natural and hormone-free chicken fried in peanut oil -- and you can taste the difference. The baked beans were sweet and comforting -- a perfect Southern companion to the chicken. The coleslaw rounded out the plate nicely and the sweet tea was exactly what you want in a spot like this. Our waitress was exceptionally accommodating and made excellent recommendations that guided us in the right direction -- that kind of attentive, knowledgeable service makes the whole experience feel special. The atmosphere is old school diner all the way -- checkered tablecloths, no frills, just great food and genuine Southern hospitality. The whole experience felt like a step back in time in the best possible way. At $19 for a two piece white meat plate with two sides this is outstanding value for the quality you're getting. As a loyal customer of this establishment for over two decades, I have consistently visited the…read moredeli and meats department at least once a month. However, I am compelled to rate this establishment one star due to a particularly unpleasant experience with a female deli employee whose first name begins with the letter "J." Despite my frequent visits, the overall customer service in the deli and meats department has declined. The season butchers have been replaced with individuals lacking the necessary experience and customer courtesy that were previously present. Over the past three months, I have encountered the same issues with this particular employee. It is important to note that the fee charged for slicing a Tri Tip into a carton container is not the primary concern. The issue lies in the employee's behavior and attitude, specifically their unwillingness to properly wrap the sliced meat. This has occurred on multiple occasions, most recently at the checkout counter when the cashier pull the foil-wrapped package from the plastic bag causing the juices of the meat to spill all over the counter. This has happened to me every time this employee has served me. The Tri Tip sliced meat is dry and devoid of juices due to this careless employee's failure to wrap the meat carefully. It is imperative that this situation be addressed. Management should provide this employee, "J," with proper training on how to wrap sliced food correctly. Additionally, it is crucial the ambiance that all employees, including the deli and butcher employees, maintain a pleasant and friendly demeanor. A salutation is always appreciated. Despite these concerns, the BBQ remains outstanding as always.

I just had a friend cater from here and I think I ate enough for a small country to be full for a…read moremonth. The food was absolutely amazing. I'll go one by one as I really didn't skimp on any of it..... First off, the brisket was so tender I couldn't even get it on to my plate originally. I had to keep stabbing at it with a fork and it just kept falling into pieces it was magical. The flavor was amazing with the perfect combination of that smokey and fire grilled taste. Didn't even need to use any sauce, but don't sleep on their BBQ sauce it had the perfect flavor of not too acidic and not too sugary. It's hard to stop eating it. I had to follow it up with the brisket quesadillas because.... well because they were staring at me and I had to show them who was boss.... Again, insane flavor combo and pleasantly addicting. Next move I had to throw down on a couple of hot wings to make sure my taste buds were still jumping and ready for the upcoming situation. Just for reference purposes, nice little kick with a bit of smokey flavor. Could've eaten 20 in one sitting but was continuing on my path of BBQ destruction. We now veered over to the baby back ribs .... I think I ate 10 before I realized what was going on. Yet again, the flavor was perfect and the meat was cooked to perfection. It didn't need any sauce, but I was a big fan of loading up on the BBQ sauce for these bad boys..... Next I shifted my fat eyed focus over to the tri-tip. It had that perfect pink center looking like a medium rare meaty super model. I went a different route here and dipped it into this horseradish sauce concoction that I never seen or heard of in my life. I don't know what was in that sauce, but it was phenomenal. I could have literally eaten this stuff by itself, but everyone was looking so I didn't want to make it weird. The tri-tip itself didn't even need any sauce and was super juicy, but that sauce just elevated the taste to another level. Now we decided to go a different location on the farm pay tribute to some smoked chicken. I had to dabble with both the BBQ sauce and the horseradish sauce as my dipping/smothering choices for this tasty bird. Couldn't even tell you how great it was without the sauce, since my mind was already fading trying to fight off my meat sweat coma. Lastly for our protein portion of the evening, I had to top it off with some of that pulled pork. Now this was extremely flavorful and some of the best I've had in quite some time. I did however enjoy lathering it up with that BBQ sauce like some of his fellow plate mates I already devoured. I will give a shout out to the sides, even though I only had a brief taste of each as I was going hard on the proteins. High fives to the potato salad, coleslaw, Mac and cheese, street corn, corn bread, tator tots and collard greens. I may have possibly missed one or 2, but after gorging on disgusting amounts of food, you tend to forget things. Had to make sure to sneak some of those greens in there so my heart didn't give out.... I however did not indulge in the chips and salsa that were there since I didn't want to come off as a pig..... So instead (as I forgot to mention previously), I took the queso and poured it over some pulled pork because that's what needed to happen at that moment.... Boom! For the grand finale, we had this banana pudding dessert that literally put me over the top. If I could openly cuss on this platform, I genuinely would.... It was absolutely orgasmic. That's right, you read that correctly. I don't know what they put in that thing, but to call it amazing would be an understatement. Pretty sure I blacked out at some point while finishing my bowl of dessert. As you can read, I was not a fan of any of the food in any way shape or form.(Sarcasm ...) I look forward to going back, but I will need to wait until I awake from this painful food coma I've been fighting off since the ending of the World Cup match watching USA beat the breaks off of Bosnia with one man down. Much love on the food and I happily dedicate this extra fat fold on my stomach and the 8lb weight gain to AJ's BBQ.
